I recently asked for YOU to submit your silliest speedrun ideas for Mario Maker 2 and in this video I attempt to complete them. Buckle up as we try to speed through these ridiculous ideas!

When I first started watching this I had only 1 question.
What does it mean to be a refreshing level?
Thankfully, Dave was able to show me a level that left me not only praying for more content, but also feeling more refreshed that I ever have before.

At 14:00 if you don't grab the key coins, you would be softlocked at the key door
And in the level before it you could get stuck in a hole of bricks after the P switch runs out probably
I don't know how me missed that one. I was about to post about it myself. There's one coin that's really easy to skip as well.
@@centdemeern1 not necessarily, as you would have to collect a coin, thus removing a brick, to get in there.

@@BlocksRock1006 well yes, but if you collect enough coins in a column to make a hole deep enough that you can’t jump out of it, you’re softlocked. That’s what I meant.
Speedrun Idea: SMB3 Worlds
The levels do not need to be in smb3 mode, but they do need to match the 8 world themes in smb3.
1 Grass Land - Basically a free space, any level that does not qualify for the other level probably fits here
2 Desert Land - Level must have goal in desert theme
3 Water Land - Either an underwater level or has swimming be a required component to beat the level
4 Giant Land - Level must include at least 2 giant enemies
5 Sky Land - Level must have goal in sky theme
6 Ice Land - Level must have goal in snow theme
7 Pipe Land - Level must use pipes as a significant portion of the floors, walls, and ceilings, simulate screen-wrap, or include 3D world clear pipes.
8 Dark Land - Level must have goal in castle theme, or have a defeatable Bowser
6: level must use snowballs and icicles
8: must use a dark subworld (while goal is in castle, or a bowser fight in the dark subworld i guess)

2:02 Auto levels are fun to watch, especially the more complex and lengthy ones. Like, thinking about how long it took to put together. Each piece had to be placed in a very specific spot.
Five minutes in and I still have no idea what a refreshing level is LOL.
Finally saw what he was talking about at 8:00. That was more insanity inducing than refreshing lol.

New speedrun idea (I don't know if anybody else thought of this): find and complete an anti-softlock in a troll level.

Regarding the Softlock challenge, you could get stuck in blocks if your timing was on-point but this is DGR we're talking about 😄
I Have A Creative New Gameshow. It's Called "Is It A Softlock" Or "Mystery Is It A Softlock" Because You Have To Figure Out If It Is One. The First Instance Is A Square Room In Mario World When You Are Trapped In A Room And Have A Mushroom And The Ground And Ceiling Are Made Of Breakable Bricks And The Ceiling Is 10 Tiles Above The Ground And The Walls Are Unbreakable. The Second Instance Is Exactly The Same As The First Except The Game Is Mario Bros 3 and The Ground Of This Trap Is Made Of Breakable Bricks While The Walls Are Not Breakable. Is It A Softlock? I Just Got Up To Pee But Now I Have Level 2 For You! In This Next Scenario You Are Small Mario In Mario Bros 1 And You Are In A Pit That Is Too High To Jump Out Of Where The Floor Is Made Of Ground Tiles And The Walls Are Made Of Brick. There Is No Ceiling. Is It A Softlock? Now Last But Not Least At All Happens To Be In The Last Game Mode That's Write It's Mario 3D World............ You Took A Mystery Box Into A Room That Is A Single Tile Wide. The Ground is a Spike Box The Walls Are On And Off Switches And The Roof Is An Unbreakable Tile. Is It A Softlock. Thanks For Playing And If Anyone Gets All Four Right I Will Cashapp Them 200 Dollars Plus A Box Of Pens I Bought At The Store In 2018.

In the 2nd stage of the softlock speedrun for super expert (the one with nut suit), if you skipped collecting one key, you are softlocked when you entered the one way to the key door.

Nice% could also be Bryan Adams%, now that I think about it. Also, fun fact, the man himself said that "Summer of 69" is not about the year lol.
Let me get this straight, a refreshing level is one that chains pows and effects throughout the entire level, similar to that of an auto level; But it isn't a traditional level that you love?
For Nice%, why not just put some slopes for 69 coins to fall into when a single pow is hit, set it as clear condition, and the ending afterwards?
My speedruns
> Kaizo%: Find a hidden block that isn't marked with indicators. Then die.
> Bean Burrito%: Find a hidden bean burrito and endure it until you enter a pipe/door at the end of the burrito.
> Switch%: Hit On/Off 100 times.
> Powerup%: Must use 1 of every powerup the game style has to offer. Bullet bills must clear a hole, Fire flower must kill an enemy, Star must bypass certain death, and so fourth.
> Yoshi%: As big Mario, take a hit as if Yoshi got hit. Then run like Hurt Yoshi would. Afterwards, Yoshi must be left in safety while you are thrown into the void. It doesn't count if the hole/chasm isn't a death.
> Enemy%: Choose any enemy, find and kill it, then beat the level.
> Snake%: Find a snake block coaster, ride it all the way to the end, and get off to safety.
> Troll%: Fall for a troll. But, you can't see it coming.
> Sad%: Get the sad flower effect and reflect on something sad (in your life). Must start while the effect is active.
Refreshing levels are anything but refreshing

I know these are just for fun, but speed runs really have to have more than one clear condition or else everyone would just reset their run when the first level doesn’t have (wiggler, soft lock, refreshing, etc). Sure, if you made it two or more it’s probably ideal to still reset if the first level doesn’t contain it, but it makes it a little more possible that any run could be a good one.

The glory hole challenge was so satisfying, watching him actually running past enemies, coins, and power ups to dive straight into a hole, completely against instincts. So satisfying

Refreshing level - because you do a refresh in popular courses, and this is the first thing you'll see.
I think for some of these limiting your amount of skips would make for a challenge that's a little more interesting, such as the softlock %

TH-cam's compressing algorithm when it sees a refreshing level:
I've actually seen refreshing levels in all game styles. My favorite has to be the "drill" version you get in SMW where you spin jump and two Bill Blasters force you down so you just go straight through all the turn blocks and stuff. Can't go through POW blocks though. For SMB1&3 they use a stiletto which can actually go through the most things making it the most satisfying.
What does refreshing levels even mean? Qualifications-wise?
@@mechashadow the only "mandatory" thing I can tell is that you need some kind of intro that both opens the way and reveals some text using POW blocks (either red ones for 3D World, or P-switch POW block one that drops all the coins, the blocks that make up the text have something in them, usually coins, so they aren't destroyed). You then enter a vertical sub area where you ground pound, with a stiletto in 1&3, or spin in SMW, through a ton of blocks, enemies, power ups, and a whole mess of sound effect that usually lag the game like crazy, then you reenter the main area where you do a super star run, in a Koopa can if it's 3D World, through a ton of enemies until you finally reach the goal.
Some might skip the end part and just have the pipe take you straight to the goal, but the intro bit and especially the ground pounding through an entire vertical sub area are mandatory. It's not a "refreshing" level without them.
By the way, these levels are not actually considered refreshing by most, what with all the effects that can kill your senses, and the game, at best it's satisfying to break through all that stuff in one go. Some even fail to load anything at the bottom because of how fast and how much stuff you're loading, but luckily the collision is always there so you never fall through the floor, as far as I know. I hope this helped, it was more an annoying trend than anything.

I think Glory% should have the added stipulation of shouting "GLORY!" before you jump in the hole, so just accidentally falling down a hole doesn't count. If its an accident, are you truly looking for glory in that hole?
Speedrun idea: car%
You win once you are in a level featuring a Koopa car, AND you skip the car and win anyway.
13:52 you could have soft locked yourself in the room with the key door if you didn’t grab one of the key coins
Squirrel speedrun in SE had a glaring softlock. Miss first red coin and softlock at the key door.
Speedrum idea: Slider%
You win only once you hear the slider theme and the only way out in the current room is death. Death must be unavoidable at the time the music begins.
(Yes, falling in a hole and hearing one note of slider theme before death counts)

Something doesn't sit well with "no skips" but also "can restart" when after a specific type of level. Restarting is just advanced skipping.

On the thirty second Speedrun with the squirrel just don't get one of the pink coins and get stuck in the room with the door
The refreshing speed run has too much RNG. World Record is bound to be 0:00 and then afterwards becomes unbeatable.
This is just bingo with less steps. :P Also you should do lockout bingo with someone. 👀

Make a 3x3 bingo (or a list of 4) of speedrun conditions. If you complete a line (or the whole list) you win.

For the refreshing speed run you just need to constantly restart instead of beating the lvl

Think hole% the requirements have to be that you are at least a futile of love where the normal default spawning location would be if you can raise it or lower it
