After all that…IT DOESN’T FIT. Sailing Vessel Delos Ep. 408

  • It feels like everything lately has been one step forward, two steps back, including one of our most challenging projects of the haulout: Replacing our furler motor. As difficult as it was though, I really enjoy projects like this that involve a lot of creativity. A lot of stars had to align to make this one happen including tracking down a retired Swiss guy who used to make the original parts and getting him to dig them up from his basement and send them to me 😂 and I'm super happy with how it all turned out in the end. We had a lot of victories in the yard, but lots of set backs as well, and as is usually the case with boat projects everything was taking longer than we had hoped for. So with the clock ticking we decided to bust out the big guns, and we welcomed Super Ryan back to save the day.

After watching Delos and few other sailing channels, I’m honestly amazed at the kindness of complete strangers. Offering to help design and then create a custom part and ship it to you. If more people approached life like this, it would make the world a better place.

This is exactly what makes this world a better place. If you see a place that is not a great place then the kindness of people working together did not occur.

do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others. Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus, who, although He existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men. Being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.

    Dear Delos crew,
I'm so happy for you, that you were able to get everything done, without having to clear everything from one corner to the other and that day after day.
Children need a lot of exercise (I now that because of my kids), so your shore leave was quiet perfect for Sierras urge to move.
Did Sierra finally got to use her bike on land too? 🚲
Regarding the 'Sailboat Furler Systems' I don't understand one thing at all:
Why do manufacturers keep changing the furling systems for sailboats? In this case, the design has even been significantly degraded: reduced from 3 mounts to 2. What about the distribution of forces? (Never touch a running system - except for maintenance purposes...)
Anyway, it's great that Delos community were able to help you so quickly! Well done!
I'm already looking forward to your next videos and wish you a nice crossing, good winds and stay healthy!
PS: Awesome timelaps (starting at 10:38) and wow, what fantastic sky colors!
    Many hugs from Austria🤗

Also a shout goes out through the universe to Ryan's wife, our often unsung hero, without her giving up important events like their 17th Anniversary and many other special holidays, this Super Team would not be able to come together. It is a rare person who would bother reaching our to a guy in France, retired, on the off chance he had a pile of crap in his cellar. I think the best sailors have to be renaissance people. Not only do you have to know how to sail and navigate the boat, you have to know how to repair and maintain all the systems, manage a limited budget, provision the boat, deal with bad weather/breakdowns/injuries/illnesses, manage stress/frustration, pace and take care of yourself, and keep a positive outlook - all while remembering to pause and enjoy life once in a while.

Love these. It’s so nice to see Brian share the hard work maintaining the boat you love. Makes me appreciate your work and videos more. Also I love that you still include the Nuggets bike crash woohoo clip. Makes me smile every time!! 😀
