    I just wanted to thank you for all the videos you have posted about your van build. They have been very useful to me. It’s also nice that you have been honest about some of the mistakes you felt you made. We all make them. But it is an honest representation of the problems you can run into and how to avoid them. So, that’s really helpful too. I hope you are enjoying your finished product and have many happy miles of travel ahead of you.

    Hi Kevin - we have bought a used 2014 VW Crafter here in Germany (a Sprinter W906 basically, with a different drive train) and our S2 was already dealer installed in the same spot. As it's hooked up to the starter battery and we need to route some cabling to the leisure LiFePo4 battery, your video will help us locate the fuse under the captain's chair and wire appropriately! Will edit, as soon as it's installed and report.
    Thanks for the video and stay safe! 🚐☁🍀

    Awesome! I'm just completing my install now and you helped clear up the wiring confusion! I would say about the 'standard' under seat location. If you are dealing with real winters I have a number of long term van lifers switch the location more mid-van, in front of the rear wheel well. This helps get heat towards the back of the van. For those of us with a platform style bed, the heat from under the seat will not get to the garage area and that area will be cold and stagnant without any direct airflow from the heater. Just my 2 cents. Thanks again for the awesome video

I did the same setup with a T1n, but using a Chinese diesel heater and I get a lot of bubbles and not getting enough fuel if the van heater wasn’t also turned on. Two quick questions as I watch this - 1) as you are wiring it you keep saying wiring to the water pump but you mean fuel pump right? 2) unless I missed it I couldnt really see how you connected it into the fuel tank - I see how you put the pump and blue lines in but the actual connection to the tank I seem to have missed - can you explain that in more detail please? Thanks - My wife and I just bought a 2019 4wd 170 3500 sprinter cargo van and your videos make us very confident in the buildout process. Thanks for doing them and doing them so well - Robert

    • @MathersOnTheMap
      @MathersOnTheMap  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Robert, sorry about the confusion, I’m referring to the fuel pump. We connected to the fuel tank via the van’s auxiliary supply. Not all vans have them but I’m hoping you’re does considering it’s a 2019. If you crawl under the van on the driver side you should see a little tap with a lid that you can pull off. Good luck with your build!

    Hey Kevin, I've installed the same heater in the same location, the same way, but I keep running into a P000220 fault code indicating a electric motor - interruption/ short circuit. I was wondering have you ran into this issues, or any other common faults, with your fan? I'm concerned the mounting location being slanted is causing the air fan to rub or drag limiting the fan speed and causing the fault.

    • @MathersOnTheMap
      @MathersOnTheMap  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Jason, I’m not sure, are you using the same wiring harness did you add additional wiring to extend the wire harness length? I’m not following how the air fan could rub or drag

  • @alanwestport
    @alanwestport 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Stopped watching when you said you were going to exaust it at the step of your side door. THIS is how you introduce CO into your living area every time you open the door with the heater on. It may not be enough to kill you but it can make you feel sick. You should consider having the exaust go over to the driver door so when you are parked, the exaust is on the opposite side of the van.

    • @MathersOnTheMap
      @MathersOnTheMap  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Hi Alan thanks for your concern! I looked into this a bit and here’s what we concluded to feel safe enough to do it the way we did... Usually when the heater is on we never open the sliding door, that would let so much cold air in it would defeat the purpose of having it on, we often close off the cabin with a curtain to help keep the heat in. When we exit/enter we go through the cabin.
      Second we looked into moving the exhaust which would require an exhaust extension. but you have to worry about carbon build up especially if you have to route the exhaust in an upward direction which you would likely have to do in order to get around the components underneath the van. This would likely lead to issues with the heater. Hopefully you reconsider watching the video/videos! Happy new year!
