Plus at 36 Calzaghe wasn’t exactly in his prime. He retired the same year.

Many tried to finish him, but he was just TOO much to handle. Even with knives, he was tough to tackle, his record spoke for itself many resorted to going hand to hand with him, unsuccessfully. Let’s be grateful we were around at the same time as this undefeated marvel. Especially with chips.

I watched Joe’s first fight. He was on the undercard of the Lennox Lewis v Frank Bruno match. I was in the stadium early and watched Joe TKO Paul Hanlon. He was a severely underrated World Champion, perhaps because of his humble nature, not feeling the need to be the loudest person in the room. He would keep a low profile, I’d see him in Cardiff shopping with his first wife, he’d typically be wearing a beanie keeping his head down. As an afterthought of that night, I remember Lennox saying he walked out to fight the UK’s favourite fighter ever to a hail of boo’s, he said afterwards, here I am, heavyweight champion of the world and I’m getting boo’d. The Welsh loved Frank 😂😂😂
Even I’m sick of hearing Carl Froch name whenever Joe Calzaghe is interviewed. Let’s put this into context. Joe Calzaghe retired before Carl Froch even won his first world title against Jean Pascal which if I remember rightly was on ITV4! Joe was 38 at the time. Carl probably 32 in his prime. It’s exactly the same situation that occurred when Degale wanted to fight Carl and Instead Carl retired. We don’t hear about Degale when Carl is interviewed and that’s because Carl mentions Joe in most interviews. Carl had a fantastic career with some great fights some of which I attended live, he should be proud and not feel the need to ever mention Joe. They’re from different eras. Like how Joe missed out on the Benn, Eubank, Collins era (I know he fought an old Eubank). Stop wasting your time with a legend asking him silly questions. No real fans care to see any exhibition!

I watched Joe’s first fight. He was on the undercard of the Lennox Lewis v Frank Bruno match. I was in the stadium early and watched Joe TKO Paul Hanlon. He was a severely underrated World Champion, perhaps because of his humble nature, not feeling the need to be the loudest person in the room. He would keep a low profile, I’d see him in Cardiff shopping with his first wife, he’d typically be wearing a beanie keeping his head down.
As an afterthought of that night, I remember Lennox saying he walked out to fight the UK’s favourite fighter ever to a hail of boo’s, he said afterwards, here I am, heavyweight champion of the world and I’m getting boo’d. The Welsh loved Frank 😂😂😂

Even I’m sick of hearing Carl Froch name whenever Joe Calzaghe is interviewed. Let’s put this into context. Joe Calzaghe retired before Carl Froch even won his first world title against Jean Pascal which if I remember rightly was on ITV4! Joe was 38 at the time. Carl probably 32 in his prime. It’s exactly the same situation that occurred when Degale wanted to fight Carl and Instead Carl retired. We don’t hear about Degale when Carl is interviewed and that’s because Carl mentions Joe in most interviews. Carl had a fantastic career with some great fights some of which I attended live, he should be proud and not feel the need to ever mention Joe. They’re from different eras. Like how Joe missed out on the Benn, Eubank, Collins era (I know he fought an old Eubank). Stop wasting your time with a legend asking him silly questions. No real fans care to see any exhibition!
People do seem to forget that Carl was boxing in leisure centres when he claims Calzaghe should have been fighting him. He’s an odd character.
