4.2 are very underrated engines. The worse part is higher elevation and going uphill and you can't pass any one. But it was useful for in-town stuff and towing light boats.
I still own a 4.6 that I’m planning on doing a full build with my father as soon as I move back home, I had a 4.2 that I wrecked and still miss to this day. Great little trucks... I drive mine pretty hard too lol they feel like a go-kart
My dad recently gave my his 02 4.2 with 330000 miles. I've always been planning on doing some nice upgrades to it then eventually give it back to him when we're older God willing.
Sweet truck, i got the 98' 4.2l 5 speed with 318k on the odometer. Original engine, but getting seals replaced on the trans clutch for a second time though.
Just bought a 2000 f150 V6 5 speed for $1800. Sold a 2003 Dodge cummins that I did not need anymore for towing. Its got some rust but I dont care its just something to take to the dump and fetch a few things with now and then. I dont know anything about these V6 engines...I hope they are not a problem child.
I have a 03 with the 4.2 as well. Even with that stuff you have it still makes donkey dick for power. Stick a thunder bird sc blower on it to actually get something extra out of it. Since its the exact same block just different stroke from the ford 3.8 push rod engine. Also if you just leave the 4.2 stock,and change the coolant every few years you will get 300k out of that engine easy.
The SuperCoupe uses single port intake heads and intake, a downgrade from the 4.2L split port intake, unless a fabricated intake were made, you're not swapping the SC M90 onto this motor without downgrading to restricted heads and intake manifold. A ProCharger on the other hand would make a huge difference even on low boost around 6lbs. or so.

I have a free star and the internet says it makes 215herspers and 260 pounds of turks. Its funny that those are similar number to the 5.0 in the 90s kinda makes ya wonder dont it? I feel like u could get a cam and headers and make the lower part of the truck intake hole 6 little single carbs and it would be bad ass and bassiclay look like a sbf missing 2 cylinders
@@shortymadrideo1587 nope, you are incorrect. The 4.2L was F150, E150, E250, and Freestar exclusive. The Mustang only ran the 3.8L and 3.9L before changing to the 60 degree v6 OHC in 2005. Oh and the 4.2L isn't an overbored anything, the 3.8L, 3.9L, and 4.2L all have the same bore size, the difference is changes to stroke.

A 0-60mph/60-100mph would have been nice. The truck sounds like ass, but seems like it may have some pep for the 4.2L........ impossible to tell, outside of the terrible 1/4 time posted, though. (?)

very nice! I recently got pretty much the same truck. 97 single cab, 2x4, 5 speed manual, 4.2l V6. for me it's a nice upgrade from my 99 Ranger.

Only 1997 and 1998 had intake manifold coolant leak issue. I had a 2002 and ran it hard. I miss that truck!

For the era the 4.2 was decently fast. But not by today's standards.

They should have put the 4.2 in the Mustang. It seems to sound way better than the 3.8 version of the Essex.

Ion Drax no Mustang ever left the factory with a 4.2. The biggest V6 that was put in them was the 4.0 Cologne motor.

it was a cheap intake off EBAY with a real K&n air filter attached to it. probably spent about $70 for everything
