The game that started one of the staple franchises of the past decade. The original Assassin's Creed is a game filled with promise and potential, but is also bogged by some archaic mission structure. Playing the game now, you realize how much the series truly has changed. But regardless of it's shortcomings, the original clearly set the foundation for the rest of the series. The thrill of the hunt; the slow burn of hunting your target and waiting for the perfect moment to strike. In many ways, the fighting system is most sophisticated in this game. Parkour and movement improved in later games, but the fighting system is really deep here. They simplified to make it easier in future iterations.
Story-wise, this game is slow in the beginning. You have no idea who anybody is or what their intentions are, and it takes a while before things become clear. Future Assassin's Creed's definitely had better stories, but this one does a great job of explaining who the Assassins and who the Templars are. It shows you how they are different and how they are the same. You understand what their motives are, and why it's so important.
We are doing the entire Assassin's Creed main series on PC on Max Settings, so you guys can enjoy the best quality. We will be doing Assassin's Creed II in episode on GLPtv before we post it as a full movie here. As always, we included important gameplay, relevant dialogue and all cutscenes to create one fluid cinematic experience.

You know looking back I never realized how pleasing the sounds in the game are like his armor shuffling as he walks and the DNA synchronization sound. Idk they're so satisfying.

malik had quite the change of heart throughout his game. at first he is bitter and frustrated with altair, but soon finds reason to forgive him for his mistakes, and almost seems like a real friend. this is the first and best time in the ac franchise that a character has developed so much. he lost his brother and his arm, and at first, does what you would expect, and acts as antagonising as possible towards altair, but near the end, he does the unexpected, and refuses to believe that altair has anything to answer for. it is truly one of the most suprising and heartwarming character developements in gaming to this very day
+potassium gamer You also have to remeber that altiar changed alot too. He starts off as a ignorant prick, but as the game goes on he get alot more humble. I still think malik is awesome.

lemonvariable72 yeah, but ac1 was the best, ac4 was second in my opinion, then ac2. Only problem with ac2 is that you have to start a new game to replay each mission. I had fully upgraded ezio, and gotten most renovations done in monteriggioni, and then i saw the achievement for kicking a guard whilst on the flying machine. I was pissed that tuere was no replay option. Ac1 had it, and so did all the rest. Makes no sense
potassium gamer That was really odd. Still ac2 is my favorite, followed by black flag then ac1. I found the investigations in ac1 got really repetitive. 2 is my favorite because of the bonus mission. That was awesome. and I love its open world.

Imagine playing this game with today's revamped graphics engine and enhanced game mechanics... This game blew away my mind when I first played it. The script, the dialogue, God this game was great, despite its minor flaws at the time. Ubisoft should do to this game what was done to Shadow of Colossus en rework it from the ground up with newer assets. That would be a dream come true.

It's Feb, 2020. I'll turn 66 in 10 days. Over 10 years ago I retired and was brand new to gaming. My nephew got me started on it to give me something to do since I couldn't afford flying lessons or guitar lessons any more, and after a major heart attack, couldn't keep up with Kung Fu training.
AC 1 was the first game I got involved with. I tried several others but they didn't hold my interest enough to get beyond the first few levels. AC grabbed my attention and I couldn't put down the PS3 controller! It took me 2 MONTHS to get through this game because I never played before (except a few very lame attempts at 1 or 2 others)! I made every mistake imaginable! I screamed at Altair for not doing what I trained him to do - always climbing up the side of a building with a ladder right next to him! And a bunch of other dumb stuff!
But eventually I mastered the controls and actually learned strategy playing this game. Maybe I'll make a video of some of my strategies if I ever get a version of AC1 for PS4. Or if I start PC gaming as my nephew (same nephew) insists.
We'll see!

I have a fondness for the first Assassin's Creed in particular.
Unlike the others in the series, it follows a simple structure, and there's a certain bleakness to it all.
I've always thought of it as repetitive. You go find a man, punch him, question him, kill him, go kill another guy, repeat. AC IV is my favorite because there are so many ways to accomplish a task.
+P4INKiller Not only that, but it's by far the most "artsy" and intellectual game of them all. The only other game that has at least some of the moral ambiguity of AC1 is Rogue.
AC1 has by far the coolest story IMO because of the moral ambiguity, and a story with sub-stories within it that all follow a believable and satisfying arc. It also shows - from the very beginning - the relativity of "good" and "evil" within the AC world. What a great game. If the actual game were more polished and played better, it would be miles (pun intended) ahead of the other games.

@@calwynsamuel3794 see here's my natural problem comparing the two masters. For starters Altair never had a health bar, he had a desync bar. The only assassin who if played right will NEVER be touched. Second is compared to EVER SINGLE OTHER ASSASSIN. EVEN ALTAIR. Ezio is the only one with multiple games, to compare a character with basically 15 hours of gameplay compared to every other character getting like 3 to 4 maybe even less. I refuse to compare Ezio to any other assassin because of this. Its honestly common sense to do so. lets just agree they're both skilled mentors in their own regards.

This game was SO groundbreaking on release. I still think it has the best atmosphere of all AC games; the use of cloud shadows is particularly cool in this game.
They came from the perspective of creating another Prince of Persia, the next games were from the perspective of creating more assassin's creed games

AC1 was not a perfect gameplay but style, time period and setting gave perfect atmosphere to the greater story, and Altair is still most bad-ass assassin in my opinion. His skill was amazing (I always feel like Altair could take out all the other assassins with ease...) and his development and his whole life story is impressive. They did not develop him good enough in the first game alone, or give him as much time as they did to Ezio, I wish they would do a remake with young Altair again.
AC1 needs to be remade with current technology and gameplay! It was so good story-wise and had the strongest ambiguity and mystery compared to many of the sequels

8 years ago I named named my son Altair. Yeah, that's how much of a fan I am, but also because I wanted first two names to not be American or Mexican/Spaniard names. Plus when I googled a few websites they all said Altair means, "An eagle that flys".

Philip Shahbaz (the voice of Altair) does awesome job with the voice acting. This makes the character so badass. It makes the game so enjoyable despite being repetitive and clunky. The way Altair finds redemption and picks up on the pieces.

The animus comverts the language into english so that the person in the animus who doesnt speak the language can make sense of it. You would think that reliving your ancestors life means you would know what they know including their language, but thats not the case. Desmond only remembers m segments of altairs life, not his childhood and him learning his language. So its neccecary for desmonds integration into the animus

I like Altairs style and how awesome he is sometimes, but personally wise, hes a kinda a douchebag. Hes about as unlikeable as it gets. Regardless though, i think its compelling to have it that way. Its interesting. He isnt like demigod awesome with perfect morality and integrity, hes a real guy. He was a real asshole guy. Thats compelling to me for some reason cause alot of times protagonists are usually either mute or a paragon of virgue.

The side quests became a bit boring with time but my god, each main assassinations were amazing and the way they introduced your targets while you were part of the crowd was impressive.

1:58:15 - Has to be my favorite interaction with Altair and Sibrand. There's so much truth spoken here, not only to further the plot in the game but the application reflects that of the real world. I get goosebumps when Sibrand tells Altair what he knows, and what awaits him and everyone else. Altair's character truly begins to shift and grow at this moment. His curiosity, and seeking to gain more knowledge makes us want to know more too. A+ story telling, it aged like a fine wine, and his voice actor is phenomenal.
I’ll tell ya. This was my favorite game when it first came out. I had an absolute blast playing this game, and planning the assassinations. It really was a genre-defining game. I absolutely love reliving that moment through this video. Thank you so much for recapturing my childhood.

It's still amazing how well-written this game was. It was marketed as a true "next gen" game and while the gameplay has aged, the writing truly is: it's very sharp, with the character richly drawn and the conflict between the Assassins and the Templars being very ambiguous. The Assassins are as ruthless as the Templars.
In a way, the writing fits more with the artistic spin-off that questions and criticizes more simple main entries of a franchise. But this was the very first game!

I was 13 when this game was released and this was my very first next gen game I ever played back when the PS3 and 360 had just come out. You can imagine how mind blown I was. I know it hasn’t aged well but in 2007 this game was truly groundbreaking and such an original and fresh concept. It really needs to be remade with the RE 2, Shadow of Colossus treatment

Honestly... I know AC1 had linear gameplay and so on. But story part is by far better then any game I ever played. There are many books and so on. But how Altair develops from being extremly arrogant to respectful person in brotherhood. How all those Templars put doubt and are not regretting anything when dieing and final turn around to kill master.... masterpiece. I read many stories watched some "pseudo-serious" anime etc. But no story presents stuff so well. Altair changed among time not in freaking 1 day like Kira from deathnote, didn't have such simple reasons like revenging, didn't have stupid demi-gods involved.

Fascinating to rewatch this in the context of all the Assassins' Creed games that have been released since.

While some of the gameplay is dated, this is the only Assassin’s creed I can say I loved, the middle eastern aesthetic and culture, the serious tone and style.

I'll let you in on a secret, there's many older games that offer far more freedom of gameplay than many modern ones because gaming went mainstream to appeal to more and more of a casual audience and having really shitty business practices. AC1-revelations might surprise you with how free the parkour is

Fantastic game and a great beginning of the AC story. I played it through when it was included in the PS3 edition of Revelations. A relatalbe fact about Altair, he is not just a great video game character he's also an inspirational one.

This game is incredible. The game of the century in my opinion.
Altair didn't have the charisma or personality of ezio but he had a better story and character development...the writing and plot is just far better...the philosophical, ethical and ideological conflict between two secret societies was the best part...the further it went down the rabbit hole of the animus and scifi magic bullshit the worse it got.
Been on an Assassin's Creed cut scenes movie bender. After watching Ezio's trilogy I had to buy the game bundle and replay, but to do that I had to movie watch the first game so I could replay AC2 correctly. Man I loved this game, and I really wish Revelations could have gotten the original Altair and Mentor voices back, I love Revelations but oof, Altair's voice is so hard to listen to in that game, it's not him.
Anyway thanks for the upload, I can now start playing AC2 with the mindset I wanted. "Nothing is true, Everything is permitted."
Altair always was my favorite. This game is the best. The most beautifully executed plot of the series.

The foreign accents of most the other characters are different from the main character to perpetuate being in a strange forein land, and you being a stranger to that land. Desmond being the one experiencing these memories, it makes sense.

Maybe the way Altair sounded like an American in the first game was of Subject 16's meddling with Abstergo's Animus.
I love it, it was so cool!! But I really wished you did the glitches as well, that is probably my only little piece of criticism :).
