  • Watch as I make a Garage Door Fishing Rod Holder with Magnets. A plastic rod holder for your garage door will set you back about $30, so I show you how to make one for just a few dollars worth of materials, and several hundred more dollars in tools. I use rare earth magnets, which will undoubtedly hold up the rods with ease, but can also be removed eventually without any grief. I currently own 3 fishing rods, but this rod holder will hold up to 8.
    Let me know in the comments if you have ideas for other videos I should make!

    I think you should patent that and sell a kit that's has adjustable ends to Fit any garage door. Great job.

      Thank you! Can't say it's an original idea but I thought I'd try a crack at it

    Good idea. I was gonna make mine from electrical conduit but I like your approach better.

      I hadn’t thought of that! I’m sure either would work just as well. Good luck and happy building!

      SUCKS. Too Much work. I achieved the same exact thing with plastic PVC conduit gray pipe C -clamps. No drilling required I use the existing holes of the garage door brackets....!!!😮😢😊

      It costs me. $2.39 for a bag of 6 clamps

    Have you noticed any wear marks on the rods from constant rotation?

    • @JThorumWoodworks
      @JThorumWoodworks  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That’s actually something I hadn’t even thought of. But after inspecting my rods I see zero signs of wear.
      The rods do have some wiggle room in the holders so if this was a concern then you could always slide the rods to rest on the pvc in different spots….if that makes sense

    how far apart did you mount the couplings so the reels wont touch

    • @JThorumWoodworks
      @JThorumWoodworks  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They’re about 5 1/2 inches apart on center 👍

    What size (diameter) PVC couplers did you use? 2 inch?

    • @JThorumWoodworks
      @JThorumWoodworks  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Correct, 2 inch. I think it’s the perfect size.

    Are those garage door panels not aluminum?

    • @JThorumWoodworks
      @JThorumWoodworks  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      My guess is no! Not aluminum! To be honest though, I don't know what they're made out of.

      Magnets don’t stick to aluminum.

    Nice idea. But 99% of us watching don't have all those tools.

    • @JThorumWoodworks
      @JThorumWoodworks  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      True. I do feel very fortunate to have been able to accumulate more and more tools over the last few years. But I find that a lot of creativity in woodworking and DIY projects in general comes from figuring out the execution of it all. I dare say this project can be made with very minimal, basic tools 👍
