  • I added an idle compensation solenoid from Edelbrock. I updated the video because I thought I made a mistake on the wiring. If you have an Edelbrock carburetor with air conditioning then this solenoid kit will help with the low idle issues. I hope this video was helpful and if you have any questions please leave a comment. Thanks for watching

I used a factory GM one off a quadrajet wired up to a toggle switch I just made my own bracket in some applications GM used them for an AC speed up solenoid or a anti-diesel solenoid it would maintain the rated idle speed then when you shut the ignition off it would close the throttle blades below the idle point and shut the air off to the engine to prevent run on I didn't know Edelbrock offered one thats pretty cool

I read that about the anti-diesel solenoid. I didn’t know gm did that.

@@Chickeneyegarage my 75 k10 had one from the factory for the AC but the other trucks we had with factory AC didn't have it

Why not wire it to the ac clutch?

I did originally but every time the compressor cycled off the solenoid turned off. I want the solenoid on all the time when the ac and fans are on. That’s why I wired it to a switch

    What fans are you using??

Is the compressor stealing all the juice so you just need a relay instead of the switch?

No, the 12 volts completely went away when the compressor cycled off. I believe it was cycling off due to the evaporator temperature causing the compressor to cycle off. When I had the glove box out I noticed every time the compressor cycled off the relay that sends 12 volts to the compressor wire went away. If the compressor cycles off because of the pressure switch then I could have moved the wire for the solenoid and spliced to the wire coming from the ac relay. Hopefully this makes sense
