- Aftermath of flooding from Hurricane Helene in Avery County and Watauga County. Pictures and videos were taken in Blowing Rock, Boone, Valle Crucis, and Banner Elk. The shot of the trees on top of cars is in a parking lot for student housing at Lees-McCrae College, and there were several students stranded there. All pictures and videos were taken on September 28, 2024. The footage isn't great. My dashcam messed up and I had to use my cellphone, which was hard to do with the road conditions, but I hope it does a good job portraying the extent of the damage.

@guitarzan2626 we didn't go as far as Newland. We went through Blowing Rock, Boone, Valle Crucis and Banner Elk.
@@lukeo5375 we lived in Newland most of our life. Got the rest of our family out of there yesterday. Thanks for the footage. Its the only footage I have found so far of Avery county. Be careful and thanks again.
I can appreciate that your trying to show the extent of damage that happened, yet taking a drive thru it for the sake of a looky-loo doesn't help the situation either.
Clearly those roads are in serious distress; as well as added traffic only hinders powercrews, local emergency services, & those living in the area trying to get things sorted out.
With respect, its a natural disaster area, NOT a tourist attraction. Please either be there to help the locals, or stay out of the area.
@@jamesthompson8008 My sister goes to college up there. We went to help her get the things she needed from her dorm since she won't be going back for a while. It wasn't just a looky-loo.
Knock it off Karen... did you see any power crews, or local emergency services being blocked?
