Wow, feels like forever since we saw Barry and Ashens eat funky food together. It's kinda nostalgic. A truly marvelous selection today, too, though I can't help but think the cucumber and chocolate might work a little better with just a sprinkle of salt. So thanks. Now I'm curious.
A cheese board is best eaten immediately after the main course, enabling you to finish your red wine with the cheese before you then move on to dessert. This is the French way.
One thing I got addicted to while I was pregnant was plain potato chips/crisps and slightly softened vanilla ice cream! I still get cravings for it these days (my last pregnancy was over 30 years ago lol). I introduced it to my bff, one of my old bosses, a neighbour or two...and everyone admits its great. Just soften the ice cream enough to be able to stir it and then crunch a handful - or two depending on the size of the ice cream portion lol - and stir together.....creamy, crunchy, salty, sweet goodness!
Strong Cheese , walnuts and grape / jam is a really common thing here in Germany :D you even find it on a lot of hotel buffets - I do really like it but I enjoy strong cheese anyway so :D
Back in the 70's, jam and crisp sarnies were a staple lunch around here. Not Wotsits, it was usually ready salted Walkers (or equivalent). I do like a cheese board but won't have one at a restaurant. I do agree that it should be a starter as well as after the main meal, as not everyone wants desserts.
Brinjal (aubergine) pickle and mature cheddar cheese on crackers tastes amazing. You could probably put the pickle on melted cheese on toast too - the spiciness and sweetness of the pickle really goes well with the sharpness of the cheddar.
What spices do you add to your aubergine pickle? One of my favourite pickles is runner bean chutney, it's vibrant green and has a lot of turmeric, highly recommended with mature cheddar.
Thanks for the mention Barry, what I meant was you mix the tikka paste with some mayo until you get it to your taste, then you add chicken, the Nutella goes on bread thinly to make a sandwich, it really is yum, Zonkford 😂😋🍞😍
8:00.. Original digestive (bottom side) with Margarine (topside doesn't spread correctly) step mother used to love them.... palatable, but never saw or tasted her palette to have it once a month..lol
Are cheese boards a desert item in the UK? They are very much a starter/side kind of thing in the states. Usually served as like a finger food while people are milling about at a party or somethihg similar.
In my experience, cheese boards are a starter to eat while the main dish cooks😅 sometimes, it's the appetizer, and sometimes it's the pre-appetizer lol
I used to eat cheese and jam sandwiches (otherwise known as a miner’s piece) Another thing I enjoy is a bread roll with a couple of (battered)potato fritters with tomato ketchup and chip shop curry sauce Open the roll and butter both sides, spread ketchup on both then on the bottom put a fritter some curry sauce then the other fritter then put the other half of the roll on the top (you can also add cheese between the fritter and the tomato ketchup)
Barry - I think you should really try a PEANUT BUTTER & BOLOGNA sandwich… spread some PB on 2 slices of bread & slap a piece of bologna on one to go in the middle & monch away. It was my childhood favorite.🥰😁
oh I have one, when I was younger whenever i had some chocolate i had too have a small glass of orange juice right after, i just loved the way the orange juice tasted right after chocolate, especially a dark chocolate
When you two tried the hula hoops and mars bars, you reminded me of Hugo and Alice getting married ! 😂😂😂 Vicar of Dibbly!.. I am sure they used hula hoops For wedding rings. , 😂😂😂🎉🎉🎉❤. So funny. And by the way? the hula hoops fitted their fingers! … 😮😮😮😮! 😂😂😂❤
I have added cocoa powder to non-sweet curry because chocolate and pepper is a thing in mexican food and molé has a similar vibe, it was actually not bad, you could barely taste it but it gave it a nice colour
Gravy on battered fish from the chippy is one of my favourite food combos, give that a try, with chips as well obviously! 😂 Also, curries work well with pasta instead of rice.
Cheese and ginger I can get behind. The hairy bikers did it with a sticky ginger cake and some mature cheddar, which is absolutely incredible. I absolutely won’t be trying prawn flavour primula on ginger nuts 😂
Watching these combos reminded me of three that I love for different reasons. The first is teacake (as in a breadcake with currants and raisins in), buttered and with salmon paste on top of the butter. It was one I always used to request for my sandwiches when I went on trips with school, so there's a bit of childhood nostalgia there. The second is banana and tomato sauce sandwiches. Butter two slices of bread (with butter, not marge, as that doesn't taste the same at all, although marge/vegan spread alternative is permitted for vegans), slice a banana up into rounds and lay on the buttered bread, then squeeze on some tomato sauce - it's up to you how much you want - then slap on the other slice of bread, cut in half and eat. I "discovered" this one when I was messing about with food combos while I still lived with my parents. I'm glad I liked it, because my Mum wouldn't have been happy at me wasting food, otherwise! The third one is a cooked smoked bacon, brie and white grape toastie. Prepare your bread for the toastie maker, lay the cooked smoked bacon on it, lay sliced Brie over that, then slice up the white grapes and lay them over everything. Add the second slice of bread and close the toastie-maker lid. Cook until the bread starts to brown and is crispy and the cheese is oozing out a bit. Eat them hot but be careful about the molten lava-hot cheese and grapes, otherwise you'll have a blistered mouth and that's no fun at all! I used to help out with a conservation group in Sheffield some years ago and it was then I made this creation. They're good hot, but also go well as cold sandwiches later, when you won't burn your mouth but still have the taste of the individual elements.
In my fresh out of college days I occasionally made a bacon(or bacon bits) sandwich with thousand island dressing. Very much me looking in the fridge/cabinet and mixing things I thought could be decent. Still get a craving occasionally
When l was living on my own, I would have chocolate and marmite. Also started eating food cold from the tin as it was pointless heating it up just for myself.
This may be very difficult, since almost all of these ingredients are distinctly American, but a late relative loved the following sandwich: - iceberg lettuce - American "cheese" - Miracle Whip - crunchy peanut butter - Wonder bread ...personally, I think it was gross, but they loved it.
Cheese boards are delicious as a desert. The stronger the cheese, the better. Best enjoyed with a port or a sweet wine like rivesaltes. Bread with peanut butter and sambal (Indonesian pepper sauce/condiment) preferably a hot sambal. Also bread with peanut butter and (Dutch) chocolate sprinkles.
You need to try chilli heat wave Doritos with melted marshmallo. It's so good 😍 I discovered it when I was having a campfire with my friends and we ran out of digestive biscuits for our smores
If you do a part three, I'd suggest Quavers and Mayonaise. Last day at uni, decades ago, it's all that was left in the house and I've had it several times since. No one I've suggested this to has ever tried it, so it would be interesting to see your thoughts.
You should try Sesame crispbread, slice of apple and Quäse rustica (a german protein rich curd cheese with green pepper) - for me it works very well together.
I like M&M's with chex mix. I also like a green salad with ranch with One of these ( not all at once ) strawberries, grapes, apple or pear with Fritos corn chips.
Why do I get the feeling "Zonkford" is watching while rolling on the floor laughing that they actually got you to try something just made up off the top of their head!
Interesting, because commonly cheese board stuff IS a starter here in America for holiday parties and stuff. Just kinda sitting there on the table while you wait for the actual food to finish cooking Never heard of it being like a dessert before
I'm shocked by the revelation that cheeseboards for some people are considered a post-meal thing? It's always been either a grazing platter or a pre-meal appetiser in my life. Something to keep you (and the kids) from getting hangry while in a social setting when a proper meal isn't likely to come for some time yet.
You guys made me laugh, talking about a cheese course instead of a sweet dessert; specifically in a restaurant setting. I love cheese and I also love sweet desserts, so to put it simply, in a restaurant setting you order a cheese course as your last savoury course before your dessert. It is really very simple.
We do a cheese board every year but we make it into a meal: pastries, cheeses, pate's. Chutneys, jams , crackers and salad etc. We turn it into a party lol. Xx
On the contrary, I tend to add chips to sandwiches that I find rather bland. A favorite combo when on the run is to put cheddar-sour-cream Ruffles onto a ready-made egg salad sandwich. The sandwich is really just egg and mayo on white bread, there's really no flavor to it and the texture is pretty blah as well. The chips add a hearty crunch as well as some much-needed extra flavor. I would also recommend plain salted chips/crisps on a peanut butter and jelly, though. The texture and the saltiness really elevate the experience of eating the boring old staple.
White bread toasted with butter, grape jelly and a slice of American cheese. Peanut butter, mayonnaise and lettuce on white bread. Both child hood favorites.
My aunt likes to eat spaghetti with blueberry yoghurt Spaghetti with broken up Jaffa Cake in it Pasta cooked in Milk topped with Cinnamon and Sugar Pasta cooked in milk and then when the Pasta’s almost done you mix in vanilla custard powder that you’ve prepared beforehand you can again top it with cinnamon and sugar I’ve never tried these things btw but she likes them ! And I like Buttered Bread with on one side strawberry jam on the other peach Jam with bacon and scrambled eggs Bread with Gouda cheese and Strawberry Jam

It's nice of Ashens to leave Dans(Nerdcubed) house to go film with Barry. After this was filmed he then had to rushback to Dans to continue Advent
At least he doesn't have a stomach full of cheese this time.
How can you be sure they don't just all live together?
@@GreaserManImagine if Barry had been involved in that one. It would've been a true punishment calendar 😂
LoL yeah Reallllllllllyyyyyy that is what happened 🙄😝🤣🤣🤣
Nerdcubed. Now that's a name I haven't heard in a long time....
The Barry-Ashens buddy chemistry is particularly entertaining in this one 👍
Wow. Never noticed how round Ashens head is and how flat Barry's is. The hats really showcase it.
What an observation.
😂😂😂Sponge Barry Square Head 😂😂😂❤

I still think you two are my favourite combo on the internet, Barshens is the content to live for.
the dynamic (they move about) duo back in action! with suspicious food. awesome guys , now you need Eli to ramble on about flavour amplitude.

Carpets shall provide Bono!
Peanut butter with sriracha was a moment of lockdown madness that really paid off.
That could very much be the start of an Asian sauce so it makes sense
I like peanut butter with marmite
Sounds like spicey Sateh sauce. Perfect.
Pretty sure that’s part of the recipe for prison pad Thai, along with chicken ramen
Peanut butter works with an astonishing number of savoury things.
Peanut butter, cheese and sriracha on toast is dynamite.
That impression at the end made me laugh out loud! Marvelous!
Love these two; Team Barshens!
Bashens is the BEST duo!
Man I miss it so much. Wish it had a much bigger audience
Barshens is back. Tomorrow! 🥳

Agreed, but the fact that all the food was in date was kind of a disappointment. 😊
Like to see Barry try the canned chicken!
The birthday hat slightly maligned on Ashen’s head so that you can see a little lip is very comedic to me.
But.. But.. How can Stuart be here when he's with nerdcubed opening his polly pocket advent calender? 😮
Interdimensional forces beyond your comprehension, mere mortal!
(I think it has to do with the fact Barshens is also going on...)
And that he and barry are with the barshens crew as well
A cheese board is best eaten immediately after the main course, enabling you to finish your red wine with the cheese before you then move on to dessert. This is the French way.
We do frequently have them as appetizers in the US, however. Although many places offer them before and after the main course, interestingly enough.

Cheeseboard... quite tough.
1:45 I can see Ashens is getting flashbacks to the Sour Cream Ice Cream he had on his channel a few years ago
Salad cream, much worse

An old co-worker of mine used to crush up a bag of wotsits and dip a banana in it. He called it Wotsanana Time and loved it.
