    Aaron plays like a dream. What a pleasure to listen, no matter how high or low the G string might be...

    The High G is the sound we are used to, and gives it more of a traditional Uke sound
    Low G gives it more of an acoustic guitar sound.

    I never new there was a low g option, As a guitar playing the low g seems the way to go but i dont want to loose the classic uke sound when strumming. The high g only weirds me out when im soloing and go up to that high g and feels like im at the bottom string. thanks for the video really cleared things up!

    I've just ordered my second uke so that I can have one in standard high G tuning. When I got my first one I went to a low G immediately. I play guitar and felt more comfortable with that setup. I'm now ready to sound more like a uke for certain material to bring back the lovely up and happy sound it produces.
    It was good to hear how the high G lends itself to other uses too like the banjo style. Can't wait to get started.

    Can you tune a tenor to DGBE ..? or EADG..? I want basically a small nylon string guitar to practice on and to fill the high notes that a standard classical guitar can't hit very well. I've only practied standard guitar tuning, so traditional ukulele tunings will be really difficult.

  • @pnevlud

    Arron can you answer this?
    I want to learn to play. I play piano and I definitely can not sing 😂 problem is I am left handed BUT right hand dominate. I bowl, bat, and shoot guns with my right hand. I write, draw and clean with my left 🤦‍♀️ should I just buy the right handed uke? And if it doesn’t work out can you switch the strings around? Plus now I don’t know if I should go with low or high 😂 I do want something more like a guitar sound. So would I buy the tenor then change the string??

    I inherited my Uncle's Martin soprano Ukulele. Perfect condition at least.20 years old. Do they make Low g strings for soprano? Should I not even try cuz it might damage the bridge, warp the neck, or whatever? If it might damage it I'd rather just have it on display and not play it... because of the emotional attachment I have for it and my Uncle. I live in Northern California now...So I wouldn't have to worry any more about Island humidity.

    @marusoako i know this wasn't directed at me but i'm pretty sure he isn't using steel strings, and with all ukuleles that are strung with nylon originally they shouldn't ever be strung with steel because they just can't take the tension. hope this is relevant.

      you need a new string cause if you tune the high g string that way down its way too loose

    • @DaGamingChicken
      @DaGamingChicken 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sami Leigh you need a new set of strings. Search up low g string set on google and buy one on amazon from "Aquila". make sure you bought the strings for the size of your ukulele and just restring the uke when you get it ! A regular G will be too loose to be tuned an octave down because it doesnt have as much tension. Luckily the string set is just about 8 dollars

    • @zm448
      @zm448 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I know this isn't what you asked and i apologize for that but you do need to know you're going to have issues with your neck bending up. As a ukulele generally doesn't have a truss rod and isn't made for metal strings.

    • @Jasontheguitarist87
      @Jasontheguitarist87 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I know this is an old comment, but the answer is most likely they are just nylon strings with metal winding, like on a classical guitar. This is very different than a steel string with metal winding.

    • @BlackJackStrikesBack
      @BlackJackStrikesBack 10 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      yep, a G is still a G whether it is higher or lower. the chord will sound slightly different but the chord itself and fingerings remain the same.

      @mugsyg237 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm a beginner with the same question. With just a little extra...what about fingerpicking? If I'm reading music or tablature in a beginner's uke group class...Will I need to adjust the music for lower vs. High G? Mahalo.

    • @blajablaja1
      @blajablaja1 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mugsy G depends on the song, for example, the solo in Don't Speak by No Doubt does require a low G, while some other songs are easier played with the high G. In my opinion, with a low G the only difference when fingerpicking would to use other strings (E or A instead of G) so that the sound remains loyal. That is, as long as the solo or fingerpicking does not go below C, which, if it does, you can make use of the low G tuning. Kind of an even trade really

    • @davidwilliama.7296
      @davidwilliama.7296 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Are you using low G strings and trying to tune it up to high G? If so, that's your problem. You need high G strings if you want it to not snap. Also, do you mean Aquila strings? If so, they stretch a whole lot. You have to tune those up little by little. They don't tune up all the way right away. I had to tune mine up a few notes and give it a minute or two and then tune it up a little more until they finally got up to high G. I'm not an expert, but I hope this helps.

    Lol that explains it.
    My one keeps sounding so high I nearly got kicked out of my class ukulele band.
    Time to buy low pitch-

      thats kinda weird that your band would all have low G, I'd say high G is more of the 'standard way' that people have their ukulele strung
