Why I choose an Eddyline Kayak

  • I started my kayaking with a Pelican that I bought at Dicks Sporting Goods, it was a good kayak but no storage or compartments. After a few years of day trips, I decided that I wanted a kayak that had bulkheads with sealed covers so I could head out kayak camping and it had to be short enough to fit inside my camper. After spending a few months looking at varies kayaks I stopped at the Lake George Kayak Company and they fixed me right up.

    Everything that Eddyline makes is worth the money.
    Excellent build quality and attention to detail.

    Nice video. I enjoyed one of your other reviews about your kayak. I just started kayaking early July, once with a friend's Pelican sit in. I have a very bad back, and realized I needed a sit on top with frame seat, so yesterday I bought an Eddyline Caribbean 12FS. Looks beautiful and was real stable on my short demo. Hope to take it out this coming week for a longer run to see how efficiently it rides. Hope I enjoy it as much as you enjoy yours.

    Good video brother. I am also new to kayaking. I read your other comments and I don’t expect expert advice on kayaking and expert audio. All those things come with practice. I also am on a 10 footer and looking to upgrade to at least a 12. Just currently doing lakes right now. Keep posting though.

      Thanks, I prefer flat water myself, and yes the audio wasn't good that day for a variety of reasons ! I guess I'll learn as I go....I'm no Clint Eastwood...but I try to get by with the equipment I have. Keep paddling and stay upright.

    Nice informative video. You appear to be a big guy, as I am. I am 265 lbs. I bought the Sanpiper 12, took it out once with the owner of the store. The tail was slightly low. The kayak would have probably worked out fine, but he took it back and got the Sanpiper 130. Enjoy yours my friend.

      Yes I am a big guy....at the time I bought my Sandpiper 13 foot....I was 280+/-. I dropped to 250 last winter and hoping to shed some more this winter. Mine has been great, many adventures on it, been banged around in my truck!! Thanks for the comment. Stay calm and paddle on!!

    Great video! I am in the market for a kayak as well…I have a similar build (6’1, 250 lbs). This was very helpful as there aren’t any sellers with demo units around be for at least 400 miles. None that I know of anyway. It’s a large investment (especially after getting a roof rack and all) and of course I want to make sure I will be happy with it before pulling the trigger. The eddy line yaks seem pretty nice but lacking some accessories as you mentioned.

      Thank you, I do have another video “One Year Later”. I plan to do another next year as that will be my fifth season with my Eddyline. I can tell you I got into a bind last summer, I paddled into a minefield…underwater stumps and got stuck on one with the kayak flexing just in front of my seat….255 pounds of me, 38 pounds of gear….I managed to get off without rolling and the kayak did well.

    I would love to have one of their fishing kayaks... but with me being 270 and caring say 30 lbs of gear.. and some site said that you need to add your weight and gear and weight of kayak then divide by 0.7 to get the capacity you need. So that leaves Eddy Line out

  • @FarranLifecharger

    Good video, thanks for the review, I'm considering an Eddyline myself because of the large cockpit size. I'm 290 and stuggle getting in and out of most kayaks so the larger cockpit appeals to me.

    • @ADKMan
      @ADKMan  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Benjamin Fleming thank you. I love my kayak. If you have a deck bag it is difficult to access because of the big cockpit. But it’s easier to get in for us bigger guys.

    Buy some velcro. Hot glue it to the boat, then stick the other velcro to the bottom of your 2 dollar cup holder and voila.....When you buy an Aluminum boat does it come with all the bells and whistles fisherman have in them......not even close....all custom my friend......have fun with it, customize the crap out of your boat and may I recommend a larger Eddyline Sitka XT 15'-6", lot's of storage and lot's of decking. Around $1800 USD. Adjustable foot pegs, seat....retractable skeg.....slick kayak.

    Awesome video, very encouraging for a beginner like me. I have Future Beach 10 footer right now and discovered the same issues in loading my gear and myself, using dry bags to keep gear dry. Planning a trip on Lake Superior and obviously need a better boat. Seriously considering the Sand Piper 130. Open to any suggestions you may offer.

      Thank you, I can tell you that I can put about 38 pounds of gear, water and food (mostly freeze dried) in my compartments and I'm 258 pounds. I do have a video of some of the gear I use. I've only seen the new 13' Sandpiper online and not in person but it looks like a pretty good kayak to me.

      Thanks for the comment!! Wow Lake Superior, My closest great lake is Lake Ontario and that can be treacherous at times. Every year they are pulling a kayaker out of it. I would imagine you want a kayak closer to a sea kayak. I no expert but I know the wind comes up without warning on the great lakes. I would also consider a spray skirt, Eddyline has them for the Sandpiper. That way if the waves start to get rough you water intake will be very minimal. I don't have much experience with the great lakes paddling but if you are not going to be off shore very far.....I'd think a Sandpiper 130 would be ok.

    Being on the southwestern end of the ADK's; I enjoy your videos. I wanted to ask if you considered or tested the Eddyline Caribbean 12 or 14? The sit on tops are easier for me (combination of age (68) and stroke survivor) than one with a cockpit.- We (my wife and I ) currently have Vibe Sea Ghost 130's which are great with a 550 lb hauling capacity, but also have a 75lb hull weight to deal with. I am considering a Caribbean for next year since 45 to 50 lbs is much easier to handle and the lighter weight and narrower width would make it faster for exploring. I'd appreciate any thoughts you may have.

    • @ADKMan

      Thanks for the comment. In the Southwestern area, I've been on Kayuta Lake and I believe it was Forestport Reservoir. That was before I started my channel though. As for as a kayak, I went to the Lake George Kayak Company. They had a pretty good variety. I knew I wanted a kayak that was no more than 12 foot long, because it needs to fit into my camper. Be able to have at least 300 pounds of capacity, be light enough to portage. Most of all big enough cockpit for me to get into. I tried out a Wilderness Pungo, it was nice, had the capacity, weight of 54 pounds. I felt it didn't turn well. I then tried the 12 foot Eddyline Sandpiper. I took it out and felt good in it, had the capacities that I wanted, it tracked well, just felt comfortable so I knew it was the one. I didn't try out any other. It was $200 more than what I was hoping to spend but I still got it. The Caribbean looks like a nice kayak. The new seats they put in the kayaks look pretty good. I do like Eddylines and if I had to do it over, I would still choose the Eddyline I got.

    • @growl5110
      @growl5110 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the reply. We do Forestport Reservoir at least once a week because it's just a couple of miles from home. Next time your over this way go just east of there to North Lake. It's quiet and I believe it has 26 campsites scattered along the west side. The more I watch and read, I really like the Eddylines. The light weight, how they track, and the increased speed over my current kayak. I'll keep Lake George Kayak Company in mind when I go for a test run next spring, Thanks.

      Steve Smith no they don’t, I was in a garage when it was raining so yes the audio is not the best. I make no money from my videos, I don’t ask for donations or have a pateron account like other channels so I don’t purchase the most expensive gear. I just do the best I can with what I have. Thanks for the comment.

      I agree, I was in a garage with a metal roof and it was raining, that didn't help things. Also I'm just starting out so I also have a cheaper camera. Thanks for the comment.
