The problem is that Eddie Fast Clark was one of the most overrated guitar players ever, and Kirk and James are overrated very overrated. Motorhead songs aren't as easy as many think.

A buddy of mine even got into a fight a bit earlier, before the encore, due to some asshole that didn't like him headbanging with his long hairs that were eventually wiping his face! As for this song, I still can remember that epic cover (I know by heart the Garage Inc. album) and I was singing the chorus like hell synchro with all the Motorhead fans in between some mosh bit brawling. Unforgettable moment, so are all the Garage Inc covers each time they do one!

Nice try. I really like the respect that Metallica guys have shown for their influences, but it's not possible to duplicate Motorhead's performances of this song. Lemmy's voice was so decrepit that it sounds like it's coming from the grave. Perfect marriage of voice and lyrics. And the Strat is the perfect guitar for this song. I love Gibsons (I have two), but they sound pretty. A Strat turned up to 11 is pure fucking attitude. Kick ass in Heaven, Lemmy, Fast Eddie, and Phil.
its great that theyre paying homage to their influences, however they NEVER try to sound like the originals and a lot of people can’t respect it for some reason. metallica has always put their own style into their covers, and its cool seeing their style on other songs imo.

Motorhead at first glance sounds easy to play, even silly but nobody, I mean nobody can cover it the right way. No one gets even close to them. Why? Because Motorhead played neither metal nor punk. They played Rock 'n' Roll. It was as natural as breathing for them. Metallica doesn't have it. They don't feel it at all. Any crappy band from the bar would do it better.
The classic formation was a very un-orthodox band, only 3 guys. Fast Eddie was a jazz guitarist, and Philty Animal was a jazz drummer (as strange as it seems) and crazy person in general ha ha. Ramones did an excellent R.A.M.O.N.E.S. cover, but they were kings of covers.
Pan Dzban no crappy dive bar band has shit on Metallica...but I don’t think they do a great job covering this song, still better than most and covers are not always meant to directly mimic original version of song...
I normally thought Metallica were a bunch of butt kites. They did do this song justice here however, and I can admit with some guilt, I like a couple of their tracks. I also think in my old age there are far worse bands than Metallica, like Knob Shinedown, and Buttfuckcherry and Five Finger Buttfist. Metallica started off pretty cool at least, then went extra shit, and least they still remember where they came from.
