LYRICS
Loretta, she's a bar-room girl
Wears them sevens on her sleeve
Dances like a diamond shines
Tells me lies I love to believe
Her age is always 22
Her laughin' eyes a hazel hue
Spends my money like water falls
Loves me like I want her to
Loretta, won't you say to me
Darlin' put your guitar on
Have another shot of booze
Sing a sad and wavering song
The guitar sings a melody
The guitar sings that Loretta's fine
Long and lazy, blonde and free
I can have her any time
I can have her any time
Oh, sweetest at the break of day
Prettiest in the setting sun
She don't cry when I can't stay
At least not 'til she's all alone
Loretta, I won't be gone long
Keep your dancin' slippers on
Keep me on your mind a while
I'm comin' home
I'm comin' home
Loretta, she's a bar-room girl
Wears them sevens on her sleeve
Dances like a diamond shines
Tells me lies I love to believe
Her age is always 22
Her laughin' eyes a hazel hue
Spends my money like water falls
Loves me like I want her to
Loves me like I want her to
Loves me like I want her to - เพลง
John was the man who you wished was your father, brother, best friend and son wrapped up into one person.
“She don’t cry when I can’t stay..least not till she’s all alone.” That lyric tells a whole story.
The Legend John, the Genius Ray, the Gentleman Lyle, and the Icon Elvis, singing a song by the Mythological Townes. I return to this video every few months to
be reminded what performing art is.
If it is the last thing i do I am going to start seeing live shows again, it has been a decade now & it is time!! ;p
Townes & his son. such special song writers, telling stories about being on the road & about new places.
Condolences to Fiona and the Prine family and Rest in Peace John, we'll always have your music.
The reverence with which these legends navigate Loretta speaks to the magic of Townes.
I love all these guys, but imho John’s vocal performance outshines them all by a country mile.
Crazy just heard Mr. Prine for the first time by accident a little while back and now he’s gone..... May God Bless you sir. And may you rest in peace.
& you get to discover his whole catalog
Prophet, Mystic & Sage enjoy
An amazing collection of singers/writers paying tribute to Townes Van Zandt. Each voice has its own magic. John Prine's voice is particularly wonderful for this lyric.
Bunch of cowboys with guitars, Ride on home John..., We'll miss you!
ELVIS COSTELLO'S ENGLISH RODNEY
Awesome. RIP JOHN PRINE. 😥😢🕊😥😢🕊😥😢
Lucky are those angels since you flew from Montgomery, we’ll look to the skies and smile at wishes come true. Missin you.
I cannot watch this enough. This is my heart, wrapped up in one TH-cam video
Elvis Costello, John Prine, Townes Van Zandt.... thank you Ma, Da and Jake for turning me onto the best shit you never heard on the radio GB, Md 1980ish
We all miss you John, but I like to think you just slipped outside for a cigarette, and forgot to come back.
9 miles long
Recorded just this side of Heaven. Thank God.
Townes Van Zandt song covered beautifully. Probably already mentioned.
Beautiful. Ashamed to admit, I had never heard of John Prine before now. I was looking up Elvis Costello tracks and came across this video....wonderful collaboration and a magical version of this song. RIP John, wish I’d found you sooner.
Thanks to You Tube, you can have many, many wonderful times ahead with John Prine's music and lyrics...and his biography, too. Hope you do. You truly will be richer for them.
This is a grand version of Loretta. Lot of good versions out there, but this one stands out.
We love you John Prine. You’re a true prophet and poet. I know your still with us even while you smoke that cigarette that’s nine miles long!
Lyle Lovettes's' Collins guitr with its distinctive sound is perfect mtch for Lovette''s voice.
Wow. This is one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever heard.
Wow. What a quartet. My dream concert. Thank you.
Thank you for
posting this!❤😊
fantastic song Townes Van Zandt his tribute album (the Poet: a Tribute to TVZ) is great John does this song on it. Willie Nelson- Marie, Lucinda Williams - Nothing, Steve Earle - 2 Girls , Guy Clark- To Live is to Fly , Billy Joe Shaver-White Freightliner Blues are others I remember that are timeless and classic
How beautiful I just ran across this. I don't understand well they're not a human being if they put a thumbs down on this wonderful video sad for them a wonderful for us. God bless John Prine

That's great... Thanks
I have come a long way to this great point and right from the very beginning you my fan have been solidly there for me , it's been a landslide but we pull through together ... your love and support are amazing and I appreciate every little effort .. always believe in yourself to achieve your goals ... Have you been to my concert before ?
so beautiful
It’s back! This video was gone for a bit, so incredible!
Thinking of John Prine and hoping he pulls through his ill health right now.
Ali Whitwell 😓
The world lost him on April 7, 2020.
Sweet, sweet, sweet.....
That's great... Thanks

Just.....beautiful.
I ain't dissin none of these fellas - they're all legends in their own rights.... but no one sings it like Townes.
It's interesting. Like Bob, I consider Townes a writer, not a singer. White Freightliner Blues, Pancho and Lefty, Snowing on Raton, all amazing songs that really shone when performed by someone else. This one, and To Live Is To Fly, and maybe Waitin Around to Die, tho - I've just not found covers that match the originals for heart and art.
One of my TVZ faves🤗
Robert Chaney does a very impressive Waiting Around To Die!

❤️❤️❤️❤️
Great singing of all, but best voice is that of lyle.
Lyle has the best verse.
“Townes Van Zandt is the best songwriter in the whole world, and I'll stand on Bob Dylan's coffee table in my cowboy boots and say that.” - Steve Earle
San Judas Tadeo John Prine
😇💥💜🌈👍
what show/ production is this? would love to watch / hear the whole thing, tnx
What a bunch of weirdos. I say that in a good way😂😂
What year was this concert ?
Greetings Lydia - this is from a TV show that Elvis Costello had. Not too sure of the timeline or how many episodes.Well worth searching for more clips. I believe it was filmed in Toronto. KEEP WELL Greg
Thanks for liking my aspiration and never giving up on my aspirations . How long have you been a fan ?
John probably has the rawest most unpolished voice of them all but you hear every word. I am a fan of all these guys but this clip forced me to redefine what is a great singer. It's all about the song not the singers.
Z
elvis costello is a nobody trying to be a somebody !!!
Lyle does it the best.
I knew this song from Lyle.
