Shutter Island is one of my all time favorites. A masterpiece with very special atmoshpere, and an academy award winning performance by Leonardo DiCaprio.
i would also recommend The Butterfly Effect. It's a chilling science fiction about a man who gets severe headaches that cause him to suffer blackouts. While unconscious, he is able to travel back in time and alter the past but this causes drastic changes in his present life.
Good movie I only think he would get headache after he read his own diaries of certain event then blackout in presence while reliving same event in past only now able to do things differently but effect of changing a detail in his childhood surged his brain with 10-15 years of memory on top of memory he had to (event-presence) in an instant !! Ergo-headache !!! But great movie, good recommendation bro!.

Gattaca, The Butterfly Effect, Predestination, Memento, Requiem for a Dream (*caution* if you are a former user this movie may really fuck with your head.) And one I haven't seen mentioned- Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. Great movies definitely worth watching.
@arsames1337 he was a patient. 1) thats why he had a phobia of water 2)his partner didnt know how to take out his pistol during the gate scene (cinematically shown when the camera zooms in on his partner struggling to take out the pistol, an leonardo looking suspicious) 3) when they were looking at evidence near the cliffs. The guards didnt take him seriously because they knew that the whole thing was a ruse 4) the other doctor during the head doctor's scene referred to DeCaprio as a "specimen" 5)the doctor's on the end looks disappointed after they've decided to lobotomize him 6) The scene when he shoots the doctor in the end happens but doesnt happen at the same time (implying that it was a delusion in his head) the other "twist" also comes on the end "Which would be worst, to live as a monster or die as a good man?" -Leonardo, this scene implies that DiCaprio knows that he is a patient and still goes through with the lobotomy because he cant live w/ the fact that his family died. If you dont believe me, or the hundreds of movie explanations for this movie. There are interviews w/ Martin Scorsese (Director) and the cast about the twist of the movie.

The only reason I every discovered that film and actually watched it was because of your comment. Thank you so much. I recommend anyone who reads this reply to watch the first one.
Yeah, I think I watched it when I was up for like 36 hours and going through an existential crisis, probably the best time to watch it. Really interesting.
I origins connects different aspects like religion vs science that I liked it so much reading in Angels and Demons. The fact of reincarnation and love as a chemistry reaction yet spiritual connection. It's going to be in a high position in my fab-list. Let me share my fab top5! Each one of these movies made me change, understand something new and opened a new sense of emotion. 1- The Matrix 2- The Beach 3- Amelie 4- Inside Out 5- Freddy Got Fingered
Using more areas of your grey matter (brain) doesn't necessitate even increased memory though buddy. I may not be a neuro-scientist, but I've studied with them a while. "Science," in the classical sense of the word, does get a little "WONKY" when dealing with people who use greater percentages though. No, that's not the technical term, because the closest thing to it in the English language would probably be "undefined" (like dividing anything by zero), and comicly overgeneralizing it like that covers the breadth of reasons your results may end up invalid.
Define ‘changing perspectives’.. because i found there are sooo many movies that do so. I even changed my persepective about blonde girl stereotype after watching Legally Blondes
I don't think the movie I'm looking for has ever been created. A movie that you can't just understand with a breakdown YT video. A movie whose writer doesn't understand either yet everything still just makes sense

That once was true, but no longer. At this point, that "we live in a computer simulation" meme is well out in the world, so widely accepted that it can no longer "open minds." Physicists & philosophers now treat the idea as a serious possibility.

still dont know what happened
he was a patient
He is a patient, like a doctor he thought for the whole movie. he doesn't know he was in jail.
the twist of the movie was that he was a patient. i think u need to rewatch it.
@arsames1337 he was a patient.
1) thats why he had a phobia of water
2)his partner didnt know how to take out his pistol during the gate scene (cinematically shown when the camera zooms in on his partner struggling to take out the pistol, an leonardo looking suspicious)
3) when they were looking at evidence near the cliffs. The guards didnt take him seriously because they knew that the whole thing was a ruse
4) the other doctor during the head doctor's scene referred to DeCaprio as a "specimen"
5)the doctor's on the end looks disappointed after they've decided to lobotomize him
6) The scene when he shoots the doctor in the end happens but doesnt happen at the same time (implying that it was a delusion in his head)
the other "twist" also comes on the end
"Which would be worst, to live as a monster or die as a good man?" -Leonardo, this scene implies that DiCaprio knows that he is a patient and still goes through with the lobotomy because he cant live w/ the fact that his family died.
If you dont believe me, or the hundreds of movie explanations for this movie. There are interviews w/ Martin Scorsese (Director) and the cast about the twist of the movie.
ill bite
#1, #3 & #4 were foreshadowing by Scorsese.
Fire and water are also a constant cinematic device.
Fire is always present when he makes progress with his delusional investigation.
1) meeting the escaped prisoner in the cave
2) investigating the forbidden part of the prison
3) his dream when he met the fictional prisoner he was looking for
Fire signals the viewer that it was part of his delusion
Water represents reality and he blocks it out because he drowned his wife.
1) It rains during the night when he was confronted about his family
2) Scene when he interviews the lady who tells him to run (the glass disappears when she drinks it from DiCaprios perspective.)
3)they're in an island ( a clue that DiCaprio is only with his own dillusion)
Also;
"My IQ is in the top 1% of the world population"

Just back from watch I origins after read this comment, THE HYPE IS REAL
be cool a
The only reason I every discovered that film and actually watched it was because of your comment. Thank you so much. I recommend anyone who reads this reply to watch the first one.
THAT FILM IS FANTASTIC
I tried to watch waking life on shrooms and it was visually overwhelming
Yeah, I think I watched it when I was up for like 36 hours and going through an existential crisis, probably the best time to watch it. Really interesting.
I origins connects different aspects like religion vs science that I liked it so much reading in Angels and Demons. The fact of reincarnation and love as a chemistry reaction yet spiritual connection. It's going to be in a high position in my fab-list. Let me share my fab top5! Each one of these movies made me change, understand something new and opened a new sense of emotion.
1- The Matrix
2- The Beach
3- Amelie
4- Inside Out
5- Freddy Got Fingered
u missed top 1 mind opening movie
Limitless (2011)
Facts!
I agree with Shutter Island the most. It completely changed how ich watch movies.
A Man From Earth is missing in this list!
agreed and mr nobody too...and requiem for a dream too
agreed and mr nobody too...and requiem for a dream too
ikr
One of the most boring movies I’ve watched.... just my opinion
4:21 What happens when she reaches 100%?
.
.
.
.
Turns into a Memory Stick
I watched it when she goes to 100 she is no longer a human she basically everywhere
LUCY - one of my all time favourites
5. I origin
4. Lucy( my fav)
3. Robot and frank
2.waking life
1. Shutter Island
It's a good selection but imho you missed the most mind bending and philosophical film of all, "The Matrix".
Ita an allegory/documentary
I guess that Cloud Atlas is by far one of the most mind opening movies and yet still one of the most underrated movies of all time , i recommend.
Terrible
The I Origins trailer tells u just.... everything.!
I KNOW RIGHT!
Carolina Simonovich Haha yes you're right

Beatrice Baiden` Dumb trailer , like what the actual fuk

Define ‘changing perspectives’.. because i found there are sooo many movies that do so. I even changed my persepective about blonde girl stereotype after watching Legally Blondes
1. I origin
2. Lucy
3. Robot and Frank .
4. Waking life

Exactly!!!!!
One of the best movies I have ever seen.
That means you haven't watched The Shawshank redemption yet😔😔
sagar thapa thats not opening minds a lot, come on dont be idiots, shawshank is a good movie, but not strange and deep as some movies on this list
Shawshank is very simple and predictable story..and highly overrated..
Mr. 13 and i think you are so dumb that's why u feel Shawshank is a great mysterious movie..!!
Nishyank Patel well it is a great movie...i wouldn't say that it is mysterious, dont get mad so easily...if you are stupid- its not my problem
Nishyank Patel thats a pretty valid argument...you're alright😉
Lucy...... had so much potential but failed to deliver.
She did it she uploaded all get knowledge to a flash drive
@@aronsalazar7491 hahahahhaha, funny
@@ana-mariavasiliev8675 that wasn't a joke, she actually did, she made a computer with all the knowledge
I don't think the movie I'm looking for has ever been created. A movie that you can't just understand with a breakdown YT video. A movie whose writer doesn't understand either yet everything still just makes sense

#1 the matrix
That once was true, but no longer.
At this point, that "we live in a computer simulation" meme is well out in the world, so widely accepted that it can no longer "open minds."
Physicists & philosophers now treat the idea as a serious possibility.
my suggestions
1.A clock work orange
2.The green mile
3.Forrest gump
4.The pursuit of happiness
Nanananana...
5. Requiem for a dream
