Love your guys reactions! You guys make me laugh. Always love this movie because it is a true story, not entirely accurate but true. Makes me proud my ancestors are from Scotland
When I first saw Braveheart I noticed something funny that most people miss unless they're British or know cinema history, as Australian Mel Gibson chose Scottish actor Patrick McGoohan to play English King Edward, kind of an Aussie joke on the English, especially in the first scene Edward is in when he rolls his 'r' in the Scottish brogue accent (which you Habibi brothers noticed and laughed at). Btw, not too many years after Wallaces death, Robert 'the Bruce' fought, won, and became King of Scotland, the scene in which he betrayed Wallace is not historical.
William Wallace is a real hero of Scotland although the movie is very inaccurate. He was hung, drawn and quartered and his body parts sent to different parts of Scotland as a reminder. The (arguably) bigger hero, Robert the Bruce, came after Wallace and secured independence for Scotland until James VI (James I of England) was crowned King of both England and Scotland in the seventeenth century. There's a big monument in Stirling Scotland for Wallace and my old house was built on the battlefield where he won. My mother claims to have seen ghosts of soldiers walking through the garden at night

I am a Scotsman’s from Edinburgh and even though this is a great movie it is very historically inaccurate. In this movie they portray Robert The Bruce as a cowered but in real history he was actually very brave and a good fighter, He was infact the real saviour of Scotland. Wallace was just a very good warrior but Robert risked his crown and his life to fight for Scotland. He never just asked his men to do the dirty work either, he go down digging trenches and stuff with the men. He and Wallace never met but Wallace’s death was what made him start fighting because he starting seeing how the Scots where really getting treated. There was some points in this movie that was accurate and that was that English nobles had a law in place where they could legally take a Scotsman’s bride away on their wedding day to sleep with them in a attempt to breed us out. If the husband fought he would be killed. And the battle at the end when Hamish threw Wallace’s sword it did infact stick in the ground standing up. @@SC-gp7kt At first, yes they castrated him. Then they cut from his anus to the bottom of his sternum. Next they proceeded to slowly pull out his intestines. Oh, and then they cut his head off.
This is my favourite movie of all time, because I'm Scottish, starring and directed by Mel Gibson, with a host of other big actors, tells the story of William Wallace, Guardian and high protector of Scotland, based loosely on the life of the famous patriot. As a movie it is fantastic, as a true representative of William Wallace, not so much. I have seen this movie, well over 25 times, and still cry at certain parts of it.
I've noticed many reactors ask what the last torture is, when the camera stays focused on his face. Removing his intestines was too gruesome to show, and/or impossible to safely film, but it was in the pre-show with the little people.
The weapon they use which is the most brutal one, the guys were wondering about. It's called a Morning Star. Half a Nun-Chuck with a solid iron spiked ball on a chain. It was quite a useful tool.
Wallace's death was more gruesome than depicted in the movie...they couldn't show it all. God created men...Men created slaves! FREEDOM to all men!! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
When the horse is stretching him at the end, it would've likely ripped his elbows, knees and shoulders out of the sockets, but that probably would've been too graphic to show.
I’ve seen engravings of both arms and legs being tied to 4 horses and the horses all driven apart… that was how the “tearing to pieces” happened Idk if this was always part of hanging drawing and quartering, but at least by the Tudor era they were also cutting off the man bits and burning them along with the internal organs in front of the victim
the Netflix film The Outlaw King is basically about Robert the Bruce shortly after the end of this film. He soon lost control of his kingdom and had to live like a brigand, similar to Wallace in the early days.
You guys should totally react to #MichaelCollins . It’s a movie starring Liam Neeson about the rebellion that finally freed Ireland in the 20th century.
Wits can have multiple meanings: Intelligence and quick thinking The ability to reason and act, especially quickly. For example, "She learned to survive on her wits". Normal mental state Usually used in the plural, as in "scared out of my wits". This hyperbolic term suggests that someone is frightened enough to lose their mind. Practical good judgment As in "had the wit to leave quickly". Talent for making clever remarks Also known as a talent for making amusing remarks, or someone who is known for making such remarks. For example, "She was also known for her quick wit and sharp tongue".
Pro tips . Mel's writer producer on this and other films is Robert Wallace, a distant relative of William! The old warrior in this was in a fantastic sci-fi Scottish warrior movie from the 80s called, Highlander, which y'all should definitely see!
The screenwriter of Braveheart is Randall Wallace, not Robert. I don't know who Robert Wallace is supposed to be but Randall Wallace is not related to the William Wallace, not distant or any other way related other than the fact they were both humans.
Randal Wallace is very unlikely to be related to William Wallace. He's just some American who has the same surname, and just arbitrarily decided he must be Wallace's descendant. There's no evidence that Wallace even HAD descendants. And Randal Wallace's failure to do any kind of historical research before writing his book explains a great deal.

"The battle of Falkirk 1298" The church yard where men who died there are burried is next door to my house the original stone slabs still marking the spots.
This is an historic fiction. The truth is that William Wallace was a rebel for the Scottish. He was killed early on by King Edward I "Longshanks". Edward I died from a heart attack getting on his horse before battle with the Scottish. His son, Edward II, continued the war against them. It was during this time that Piers Gaveston, the best knight in England, and Edward II's boyfriend, convinced Edward to marry Princess Isabella of France. The couple had 4 children and then remained apart. Piers was banished, later returned to England and then beheaded by some disgruntled nobles. The head was sent to Edward II in a box. Edward then got another boyfriend, Hugh LeDespenser, son of another Hugh LeDespenser, Earl of Winchester. Hugh also had a wife and children because nobles were expected to have heirs regardless of their sexuality. Also, Isabella took a lover, Roger Mortimer, Earl of March. He also had a wife and children. The breaking point between Isabella and Edward II was when he gave away her castle to his boyfriend as a birthday present. Isabella, like all of her sisters, was known or accused of cheating on their husbands. She took her lover, his family and her children and moved to Paris where they were known to host lavish parties (with tales of sexual escapades). When these stories reached the Pope, he sent a message to the King of France to send Isabella back to her husband or risk excommunication from the Church. Isabella and crew then went to Holland where they were hosted by Count William of Holland. She raised an army and then set sail to attack her husband. The English nobles refused to fight hard because they despised Edward II. Edward and his boyfriend and the boyfriend's father had to flee. The 2 Hughs were captured. The father was hung and the son was drawn & quartered. Edward made it to Wales, but was captured and brought back where he was put in a dungeon and left to starve to death. On night, someone entered and burned his insides out by inserting a hot poker into his backside. Edward III, son of Edward II, then became king. He was only a boy. When he became a man, he had his mother's lover hung. He then imprisoned his mother in a castle for the rest of her life. He would marry Philippa, daughter of William, Count of Holland, whom he met as a child when his mother took him there. The family story would become more complicated resulting in wars.
Thanks for reacting to this move! The basics of the move is true but not much of the detail. William Wallace's murder was more brutal than the filme showed. I will let you find out for your selfs
I enjoy your “reactions,” even though you both possess modern sensibilities, your basic morality shines through, and I really appreciate that about you both. May your days be filled with peace.
I wouldn’t burn captured outpost also. Easily resourced turned to your own outpost. I think braising everything was a thing out of emotion not the most sensible tactic
Robert the Bruce, the one that betrays him, finally attacks England and defeats Longshanks son, and becomes King of Scotland. Netflix made a pretty good movie about it, it takes place right after Wallace's quartered corpse is sent to several places in Scotland, resulting in even more rebellion and the kingship of Bruce. Side note, Wallace's sword, his real one, is on display, the thing is HUGE. Edit: the movie is called "Outlaw King" and is a lot more historically accurate than Braveheart. Braveheart is great, but Mel Gibson took quite a few liberties.
Remember that the movie is 'based' on historical events, some things aren't true or out of context historically. As someone has said Queen Isabella was a child at this time and still in France. The blue dye they wear was never a Scottish thing, it was something the Picts did and it was not dye but tattoos. In Scotland it was one step forward and five steps back with the greed and egos of some people, next thing ya know there are English in the houses of Scottish Lords, Scots are being chased off their land and the Stone Of Destiny is under the English throne....SIGH!!!!
The Scottish union of the crowns and Union of the parliament would happen much much later. That would lead to Scotland being part of the United Kingdom, which is still a point of debate even to this day. There is some who wants Scotland to be independent, but up to now it hasn’t had a majority vote. With the United Kingdom having left the EU, there’s some people who want a new vote, to see if the Scots want to break away independently and re-join the EU. Economically, there is the question of whether they would lose more than they would gain.
Just some!? I loved this movie as a child but honestly this and the Patriot are just propaganda. They did Robert the Bruce dirty, they did England dirty, they did Scotland dirty.
As opposed to INTERSTELLAR..where physicists on set told them what was possible..a far cry where Gibson and crew are in kilts which wasn’t a thing for another hundred years or so…
On the wits moment, I, personally, would have no problem with you guys looking up stuff and continuing the movie you're watching, especially when it's for awesome quotes like that one. 😊

While it's not confirmed if they actually met, it's reasonable to assume they likely did. William Wallace was essentially head of state when he was named High Protector of Scotland, and Robert de Bruce was a leading contender for the Scottish throne. It seems almost impossible that their paths didn't cross during those years.

they were disemboweling him, pulling out intestines. The betrayal is so unbelievable, just for carving out more land for the nobles. Although the movie had a lot of embellishment, and some fantasy elements, is still powerful.
And they were burning the intestines in a brazier as they were pulling them out. Diabolical.
James Horner's music is killer! All the emotions!
"wits" means brains, intelligence. The lesson being you need to think before you fight.
Cleverness
The Scots trained at throwing stones when the English prohibited possession of weapons.
This movie moved me in so many ways when I first watched it. I probably watched it more than 30 times since. If nothing, it tells you how to be a good man, fight for what you believe in and don't let others try to convince you against your beliefs.
Braveheart is one of my favourite films and being Scottish it makes me proud of my country despite the film being inaccurate at times. William Wallace is a real person who was hung, drawn, quartered and his body chopped to pieces as a warning. The Wallace Monument in Stirling is a tribute to him. I hope you enjoy this film as much as i do. Take care 😘🏴
Innacurate at times? You mean from start to finish?
this movie inaccurate or not was and still is very famous in Latin America when this movie was released. my country has been in war since forever, when this movie came out, that is what all of Us wanted, freedom and peace, sadly my country is still in turmoil in the hand of coward communist that kill his own countrymen for remain in power no matter what. The feeling of love for country and freedom is a universal feeling that we all we want, and Wallace represented that fighting spirit. Long Live Scotland!
@Boyz_scoutt33 Braveheart wasn't even William Wallace lol.
@@jpw6893 I know it was Robert The Bruce
Fun game - have a shot every time you read a comment with "even though inaccurate" - it's a staple for every Braveheart video on TH-cam!
Yeah i really liked watching this movie with y'all. Been a while since I've seen it. Subbed. ❤
I truly enjoy revisiting older movies with you both.
A classic comedy to check out is. Planes, trains and automobiles. With John Candy and Steve Martin.
Fun fact, the McGregor’s were chased out of Scotland by the Camble’s for being cattle thieves 😂
I think you mean "Campbell".
@@rebeccablackburn9487 aye you’re right 👍🏻

Please watch The Passion of the Christ!
Also, I was just in Scotland a few days ago. I stayed in Edinburgh. I learned so much about the Scottish culture. My husband bought me a beautiful Scottish ring shaped like the thistle flower ( the flower she gave to William when she was a little girl)… I cried because that scene carry’s so much emotion and meaning.
❤🏴
This period in history was brutal. Great movie.😊
This Is Based On A True Story. There Really Was A Scottish Hero Named William Wallace.
Yes, but it’s been portrayed inaccurately. Typical Mel Gibson garbage.
One Pays Honour to Those Who have Present & Past Fought for Freedom !!!
Great film pick! 👌
I really, really enjoy your reactions. Thank you for sharing!!!
They are unraveling his intestines and pulling them out.
They castrated him.
Best movie ever made. But it doesn’t leave you feeling good. Love it
It’s remarkable how tyrants never know they are taking a step too far.
Alba gu brath ✊
Yes, I feel the same about England and Ireland coz I’m from both places. But also, long live Britain and the United Kingdom. ❤️🇬🇧
The weapon they use which is the most brutal one, the guys were wondering about. It's called a Morning Star. Half a Nun-Chuck with a solid iron spiked ball on a chain. It was quite a useful tool.
Heavy stuff!
Great review, great movie!
If you loved this, I think you would love The Last of the Mohicans. Fantastic movie.
Wallace's death was more gruesome than depicted in the movie...they couldn't show it all.
God created men...Men created slaves! FREEDOM to all men!! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
This movie is heartbreaking in so many ways, and infuriating. And so good.
When the horse is stretching him at the end, it would've likely ripped his elbows, knees and shoulders out of the sockets, but that probably would've been too graphic to show.
I’ve seen engravings of both arms and legs being tied to 4 horses and the horses all driven apart… that was how the “tearing to pieces” happened
Idk if this was always part of hanging drawing and quartering, but at least by the Tudor era they were also cutting off the man bits and burning them along with the internal organs in front of the victim
Oh boy, the man tears 🥲
He says it's our Wits that make us men. Wits means intelligence being smart.
Worth noting that King Edward was not actually a pagan, but a Crusader who fought in the Middle East and nearly died when the assassins poisoned him.
the Netflix film The Outlaw King is basically about Robert the Bruce shortly after the end of this film. He soon lost control of his kingdom and had to live like a brigand, similar to Wallace in the early days.
You guys should totally react to #MichaelCollins . It’s a movie starring Liam Neeson about the rebellion that finally freed Ireland in the 20th century.
Wits can have multiple meanings:
Intelligence and quick thinking
The ability to reason and act, especially quickly. For example, "She learned to survive on her wits".
Normal mental state
Usually used in the plural, as in "scared out of my wits". This hyperbolic term suggests that someone is frightened enough to lose their mind.
Practical good judgment
As in "had the wit to leave quickly".
Talent for making clever remarks
Also known as a talent for making amusing remarks, or someone who is known for making such remarks. For example, "She was also known for her quick wit and sharp tongue".
wits means your mind your intelligent
thanks ♥
the spirit of the movie is correct, but what actually happened is very different. Robert the Bruce deserves much more credit.
Mel Gibson’s Apocalypto is his best work period. Followed by The Passion of the Christ. You boys need to watch both. Nice reaction fellas.
Absolutely agree, Apocalypto is one of the top 10 movies of all time.
No, appalling films. Everything stretched to the limit, including the truth!
@@Roz-y2d unless it’s claim is to be a documentary, it can follow any story line otherwise and Apocalypto does just that. Can’t be appalling or untruthful with a made up story plot.
Who the F do you think you are ? Adding "period" just shows how immature you are.
You guys are on a big Mel Gibson kick lately, yes? 👍

Early european fortresses were build with wood palisades. Thats why they are pointy.

This is a fun movie.
It gets an absurd amount historically wrong to the point where it might as well be 300, but it's a fun movie.
I love your little hats.
I advise you to watch the movie "Taras Bulba".
May your days be filled with peace.
carry on fighting for good
Robert the Bruce’s father had Leprosy. It’s very contagious and fatal.
In other words, a load of rubbish!
The Wind and the Lion is one I think you guys would appreciate
The Scottish union of the crowns and Union of the parliament would happen much much later. That would lead to Scotland being part of the United Kingdom, which is still a point of debate even to this day. There is some who wants Scotland to be independent, but up to now it hasn’t had a majority vote. With the United Kingdom having left the EU, there’s some people who want a new vote, to see if the Scots want to break away independently and re-join the EU. Economically, there is the question of whether they would lose more than they would gain.
Glad you guys are watching one of my favorite movies as a kid, has some inaccuracies but still amazing and true in large parts.
Just some!? I loved this movie as a child but honestly this and the Patriot are just propaganda. They did Robert the Bruce dirty, they did England dirty, they did Scotland dirty.
same could be said of all mel gibson movies i would consider them history fan fictions

And from whom surounds the French Princess, Wallace had ethics and he was honest to death...not something she's used to.
Barbaric but Mel never looked better. Music score was 👍🏻🌷🌷Carmen
Great reaction.
Awesome the movie about my ancestor William wallace
Bruce never betrayed William.
It's not even confirmed that they met at all.
While it's not confirmed if they actually met, it's reasonable to assume they likely did. William Wallace was essentially head of state when he was named High Protector of Scotland, and Robert de Bruce was a leading contender for the Scottish throne. It seems almost impossible that their paths didn't cross during those years.
Manny descendants of Wallas fought for The American Revolution but this time the French were on our side.
FYI. Historical inaccuracies galore. Entertaining movie though.
You have to watch Gladiator next.....
