I remember when this song came out. It was hard to listen and watch at first because as a former sergeant in the military I had troops that went through this and needless to say, the outcome was the same. Our soldiers go through alot and sometimes bad things happen. Even though it is a sad song, it has truth to it. Thanks for your heartfelt reaction
I'm a Veteran and prior contractor for Uncle Sam who spent a lot of time in Iraq and Afghanistan. No need to get into more detail than that. I knew this beautiful SSG and she always had a little picture of her husband and kids in her hummer. I wasn't on Post when she received the letter, but she had it next to her when they found her. She'd received a Dear Jane letter and didn't take it well. While out on patrol near the post she took her sidearm and put one through her head as she sat alone in the hummer. When I got back everyone was talking about it. I knew the guy who had to do the casket escort. Rough all the way around. It's interesting that Maggie says no one is worth it, yet to many people, their chosen one is their entire world. Losing that person is the most destructive thing imaginable to them. I know, I lost the love of my life to an undiagnosed brain tumor spinning me into a level of self-destruction that baffles me how I survived it. This song hits hard for the people who feel they've lost everything. There's a lot of us out here.
When you truly and deeply love someone that love being shattered can destroy you. It isn't a matter of not valuing your life, it is a matter of a hole being carved out of you that you can't fill but being desperate to fill it. You can't know that type of pain until you experience it for yourself.
That's what I was thinking while listening to her talk ab that, you're everything just collapses around you and most people just can't recover from it.
Of course, but if you can give somebody five minutes of your time, they might be able to help you see things in a different way. It's not trying to devalue your decision, just trying to see if hope can be rekindled.
When soldiers go off to war, sometimes, because of the horrors they are witnessing, the only thing they can hang onto is knowing that there is someone at home that they can get back to. When that is upended, then all seems hopeless. Speaking as a spouse, mother and mother in law, daughter and granddaughter of vets and active duty.
Very true. And when that happens some can't find the will to get out of that depth of despair. Of course it doesn't mean just the vets, but everyone else too. Although vets do have it way tougher.
The little girl is Rick Schroeder’s daughter. Rick portrayed the soldier. He also directed the video. If my memory serves me correctly, all the kids in the funeral scenes are his.
The soldier is Rick Shroeder, he directed this video. The little girl at the end was his real life daughter. Good reaction, I being military in my younger years understand. It sucks but it is a fact that vets face every day.
Brad and Alison did good, but honestly I will listen to *anything* with Alisson in it. Like you said the story is sad and shouldn't be the way things should end up, but rational thinking in relationships is a rare thing. Love you Maggie!
The little girl is Ricky Schroeder's (the soldier) real life daughter. Brad and Allison do such wonderful work together. They blend. Actually, Allison Krauss is just stellar. She did some really great work with Robert Plant (Led Zep singer).
I totally feel where you are coming from. As a social work that has been through, trained in, have been educated in and witnessed it, this song, hers or his story is MUCH more deeper than the surface level issues that commonly upsets us as outsiders. I promise you.
This song was what I drank to when I came home to a cheating girlfriend. Maggie is right, though - it's not worth drinking yourself near to death over. I did find someone better and I've been sober for about 5 years now. Self-obsessed sob story aside, I've been binge watching these videos for the last couple days and I love both the quality of review as well as the cheerfully bubbly personality Maggie brings. I would love to hear a reaction to any Post Modern Jukebox song featuring Miche Braden. That lady has so much soul in her voice (IMHO) and I would love to hear what the trained opera singer thinks, especially songs like Sweet Child of Mine or Purple Rain. Regardless, new subscriber here!
This song is incredibly hard for me to listen to as it hits pretty damn close to home. Such a beautiful song and glad to see you react. I will be using tissues.

I gotta quit watching folks reacting to this song. I tear up every damn time. I understand your reaction of anger and positivity. However, I totally understand both perspectives in this song. As someone who has been in similar situations, I also understand the want to find some way to make the hurt go away... be it alcohol or something even worse. My advice is for everyone else, learn to sense when someone needs some kind words to help them through something very difficult (for them). You don't even have to fully understand the persons hurt, just be humble and kind... it helps more than you know.
Both Paisley and Krause are serious musicians! Brad on guitar and Allison on the “fiddle”. Both have excellent records as singers and songwriters. They are worth checking out simply for those capabilities. Interesting reaction.

People are not aware but the director and military soldier in this video was none other than the actor Ricky Schroeder. You may recognize him as a child actor in the movie The Champ and TV series "Silver Spoon and as an adult in NYPD Blues as Det. Danny Sorenson Another note singer Alison Krauss has one of the purest sounds and a one of the several great singers with perfect pitch. Saw her in concert in Nashville. Try her song "When You Say Nothing at All".
You can do both - be mad and cry - I know that is my reaction. It makes me think of another song - He Stopped Loving Her Today - by George Jones [I'm not suggesting you listen to it - it will leave you crying too - it's not the same story, but it is similar]
Ricky’s daughter is his mini-me, that's for sure. But for clarity for Maggie, we don't know the relation in the video. They did not have kids. I always wondered if she and that boy shooting the wife the stink eye were his niece and nephew or something. Also Ricky has 2 sons...was that boy one of his sons?
The first thing that popped in my head when you said " I'm not a Doctor" is..... It's ok, I'm not a Doctor but I stayed in a Holiday Inn Express last night.....lol. Luv ya's from Kentucky!!!
I was in the Navy and I can’t count the number of times I saw this happen. The worst time was when I had duty Christmas Eve because I was single so the married guys could have Christmas with their families. On Christmas morning the Duty Chief let us know that a shipmate had committed suicide that night. A lot of veterans I’ve talked to said they knew at least one guy taking their life due to a breakup. No wonder that I was a boarder line alcoholic when I got out.
@@maggiereneemusic it will depend on how my wife and I feel tomorrow as we both have Covid right now. So much for getting vaccinated and boosted, eh. We do have tickets to Brad Paisley’s concert in Spokane on 6/26/22. I know you are a professional singer and have to work for a living but I hope you have time to go to concerts while you’re young.
I absolutely love Alison Krauss (who if you didnt know has some of the most grammys in history). Just sobbed when this was released. While union Station is my favorite work with her, Robert plank and her top album of the year is a crazy good odd couple
Dad put in 33 years the army. During that time I watch deployment widows have fine ol' time while he was gone. Then he comes back....... Fecal matter interfaces with the rotary cooling device.
I'd love to see you react to five finger death punch, there's so many songs to choose from going from Wrong Side of Heaven to Bad Company to any number of other songs by them
If you think No One is worth sacrificing your life for …you don’t have kids ….. When children are born your heart is transplanted into a body you can’t control …and you would and do sacrifice parts of your existence to give them an easier one !
Yeah, you say that... My wife died and if I didn't have two children to raise on my own I would have been gone too and it would be the end of that and it would have been worth that ending because without them, I would have been done. As it was I returned home, it took six fucking weeks and she was gone. I didn't shed a single tear, I was strong and I stood steadfast in my promise and as my children screamed I held them in my arms and this man, this man they didn't even know became their father. The Captain of the 401'st recon, who prepared a path for others to follow, who painted every target and ensured success was home with children he had met for a few weeks. And we learned to love each other, we learned to cherish one another, we learned to be the people we needed to be and to hold on to every last piece of each other and ourselves. Out of us became the people we are today. The people that do not bow to anyone. I became a man and raised my children in a way that they know that no matter what, they are loved and no matter what, I will be there even when they don't ask me to be. I was a warrior and I saved a lot of people from certain death but in the end, my worth is in the father I became and the father that I am. Now I'm a grandfather, and I got a call the other day to go to war. I'll train people to do what we did, that is as far as I'll go and with that they will prepare a road for others to follow and they will paint their targets. They will win because we do win... Not a man lost under my command and yet I'm the only one left. You don't leave the war behind and if you have nothing at home... I miss every last one of them but I understand, if I hadn't have my family to come home to, if it wasn't required of me... if it wasn... I make excuses but it wasn't my fault, none of it was my fault there was nothing I could have done better and believe you me I've gone over this a million times in my mind... We prepared a road for others to follow and what we had to do was what we had to do to do our job, to save lives and we did, we saved entire villages, we just didn't have the manpower to protect them all. So you stand there, outside a burned down house with three kids and a woman inside of it where you were invited for supper and you tell yourself that ... that you did good, that it was out of your hands. That it wasn't your fault. You couldn't have known. The lies you tell yourself to stay alive add up and the good man that you once were is the wretched character you become. You pretend it doesn't get to you and you try to do good but in the end... It doesn't matter. I was the Captain and now I'm the last one standing.
"Who's the little girl?" The idea is that the innocent (like a child) supposedly can see the spirits of the recently departed. For those into such things.
you know, at that age ur right..but let me tell u as an old guy, there are not a lot of options in starting over..especially if u have serious health issues. The great songwriter Townes Van Zandt wrote "Waiting Around to Die". Im living that song everyday. I may not hasten it in, but I am not scared of dying. I welcome death when it gets here. Time is a stalker waiting to pounce.
While holding a guitar in my arms and drinking a hot Americano, I looked out the window and comfortably watched your videos on my small phone. I think I was bewitched by the algorithm. The quality is good and the best. How did your channel have such a wonderful talent that is full of strange charms unique to your videos? You have the ability to make the moment wonderful and attractive. Your video is a good video and I think you are a talented person. I have no doubts that you will do well. I have been so complicated and tired, but I thank you for comforting me. thank you. I am amazed at the excellence of your skills and thank you for taking the time to melt my heart warmly because of your sincerity and hard work in watching the video. I looked up and it was your video. In the dawn sky, the star you see from under the sky is so beautiful and I am so thankful that it adds to the enchantment. I can feel how much time and effort you put in. I would like to give you my heartfelt praise and support for your channel to gradually develop into a very large channel. I'm trying to play. I want to play guitar while listening to the sounds of birds touching my heart while flying in the autumn sky. It feels like you put a lot of effort into making a better video. Even in the world, there are many things that can be comforted even in the hardships. A blue landscape is seen by the window today, which gives us a lot of excitement.
I know I'm late to the game on the comments here, but two observations I'd like to make: First, right or wrong of what the subjects of the song did, they were both victims of war as much as if they'd been killed in action. Second, you ask "who is the little girl?" And also, "why are they happy at the end, they're dead?!" The girl stands a bit aside from the rest of the funeral party and is the only one who sees the couple together again and happy. Perhaps the girl is one of the angels singing the "whiskey lullaby," and helping to right one of the wrongs of war.
Women think that as men our hearts do not break. I assure you that our hearts are just as fragile as a woman's heart. It hurts just as bad when it gets stepped on. The difference is, when our hearts get stepped on, we have to put on a front. It hurts! am married, and happy, but I was hurt by a girl in my early years, and it still hurts. I can never forget my first heart ache, because, I never let it happen again. Thanks!!!
My childrens father completed suicide during our separation in 2005--- my kids were 8,4, and 9 mos old--- He left a note that said "Til Death do us Part" he didnt want to live without me and his children -- I can relate to her guilt ... its so tough, and it never gets better. Its so hard to tell your children their daddy is never coming home--ever again.
Rick Schroeder (you recognized him?) directed this video. The little girl at the end is his youngest daughter, whose name unfortunately escapes me at the moment.
If you get an opportunity to listen to Jacob's Dream by Alison Krauss please do. It showcases her voice beautifully. The fact it's based on a true story does make it a little difficult but you will love it.
my dad served in ww2 when he came home my mum was there for him and only him they were married for 50years till they passed away. rest in peace mum +dad.🌹🌹♥️♥️.
You heard this a year ago, but still have not done an Alison Krauss song. She has the purest voice ever. I'd suggest her version of "When You Say Nothing At All" or "Baby, Now That I've Found You". The guys in Union Station are very talented also. I've seen an analysis of her vocals using tracking/isolating software that shows she has the most perfect pitch.
This is what good country music does to us. I can't imagine being that young man coming home to what he thought was the only good thing in his life only to be crushed, literally to death.
I am a huge Alison Krauss fan but this is hard for me to listen to as well. I recently discovered two videos of Alison singing “These Dreams” with Heart and “Carolina on my Mind”. I didn’t realize I needed those in my life until I saw them. I highly recommend you check them out if you’re interested.
This is an incredible song, an anthem and a moral rule on why you shouldn't cheat. This song always brings me to tears, as it stirs painful memories ps - I was cheat on I do feel sorry for the Lady tho, as forgiveness brings peace
The video for this song is completely different from what I envisioned when hearing this song on the radio. In my mind's eye, she kicked him out (for whatever complicated issue led to that), but they both still loved each other for years .... Not as simplistic as the video, which clearly paints her as the bad guy.
PS - Maybe she got a telegram saying he died, and she was drunk and sleeping around in grief. We have no context in the video. The song alone is more nuanced.
Yes I have seen your reaction to this song. Love it. This song always makes me sad but only because I have known people do this and worse irl. 💪 One of my "old" favorites is Black Velvet by Alannah Myles. There is another country song along this vein: He Stopped Loving Her Today. by George Jones
I saw your original post and comments. I was cool with those (although I do love the song) - so thanks Maggie. I love listening to your thoughts though I am not always in perfect agreement.
The country singers at my old karaoke spot are all about this song! 😎... It's got a good message I must say! I might not be country, but that message though! 😔... And P.S...Everyone feeling like they finally made up in heaven...I'm a majorly kind person, but she did it all to herself. 😒
💪 This is such a great song and Brad Paisley has plenty. My other favorites of his are Part Two, Then, Remind Me (with Carrie Underwood), He Didn’t Have To Be, Letter To Me, Ticks, I Wish You’d Stay, Who Needs Pictures, I’ve Been Better, Holdin’ On To You, Alcohol, Celebrity, I'm Still a Guy, and Water. My favorites from the angelic-voiced Alison Krauss are her covers of Ghost in This House and When You Say Nothing At All.
It's a shame you were so busy passing judgment on the story that the gorgeous beauty of Alison's voice went largely unnoticed. Ps no, she did not "know"he would survive fighting in a war. Oft times one left behind didn't hear from the one going to war for a long time. Also the beauty of great Country music is the understanding of the flaws of humans and the hardships of life
You're still young. As you get older, you may find that love and relationships are not that simple. When I was younger, I thought like you do. I've been married now over 30 years, and it has been a very rocky road sometimes. You don't just walk away from something you have built for so long, even when you're that angry; especially when there are children involved. Divorce is so easy and common nowadays, I think our younger folk don't develop the same sense of what commitment really means. Once those bonds are forged, breaking them is that much harder,
What a tragedy... two lives ruined... and their families lives ruined too... not fair... there's always a solution, never give up, never surrender, don't waste your life... you have to believe in yourself and move on, you're not alone!!! I loved this song, the voices sounded great together, and I loved you being so emotional, Maggie!! 🌹🌹💪💪
A suggestion from the voice of experience: make a note to yourself to try this song a couple decades down the road, when you've experienced more of life's really big ups and downs. I think you'll find that it hits differently when you realize that everyone is just one or two devastating days from doing something they and you would never think possible. At our core, we are feeling creatures before we are thinking creatures; thinking that logic can resolve emotional turmoil is folly as thought can, at best, give a light reign over the much more powerful feelings it seeks to harness.
I kinda agree with you Maggie, but there really are cases where there is truly one, single person for someone. Hopefully a pair match up with those kind of feelings.

We do have tickets to Brad Paisley’s concert in Spokane on 6/26/22. I know you are a professional singer and have to work for a living but I hope you have time to go to concerts while you’re young.
😊
Love your reaction. I was lonely as hell overseas, but I did not have to worry about "Jody," since I had no one there waiting for me.
I absolutely love Alison Krauss (who if you didnt know has some of the most grammys in history). Just sobbed when this was released. While union Station is my favorite work with her, Robert plank and her top album of the year is a crazy good odd couple
Robert PlanT
I know the song word for word and I still cry. This song is soo beautiful and awful at the same time.

Sad...but yet a beatifull song....
Dad put in 33 years the army. During that time I watch deployment widows have fine ol' time while he was gone. Then he comes back....... Fecal matter interfaces with the rotary cooling device.
I'd love to see you react to five finger death punch, there's so many songs to choose from going from Wrong Side of Heaven to Bad Company to any number of other songs by them
Wrong side of heaven yes that is the theme song of my life. 35 years US Army
The little girl is Ricky Schroder's daughter, the male actor in the video.
Country songs stories almost always take a turn
If you think No One is worth sacrificing your life for …you don’t have kids …..
When children are born your heart is transplanted into a body you can’t control …and you would and do sacrifice parts of your existence to give them an easier one !
I'm totally missing this you are totally missing this you haven't lived enough heartaches to really get this
George Jones - He Stopped Loving Her Today
Brad wrote this based on a true story. And it has happened MANY times.
Little children can see what we can’t. My grandchild can see spirits.
You gotta so when I get where I'm going by Brad pasily
Love Brad. He and Alison are so talented
The soldier was Ricky Schroder and the little girl is his daughter. I need to go get tissues
"Who's the little girl?" The idea is that the innocent (like a child) supposedly can see the spirits of the recently departed. For those into such things.
My reaction is the same as yours. I thank God for my wife whom I have been with for 36 years.
you know, at that age ur right..but let me tell u as an old guy, there are not a lot of options in starting over..especially if u have serious health issues.

The little girl was Ricky Schroeder’s (the soldier) actual daughter. This song affects me because my Daddy drank himself to death.
I’ve been here… almost went the same way… 2 gallons of whiskey in a night after listening to this song… not sure how I’m still here.
Thanks!!!
Moral of the story is in heaven that is where forgiveness reigns. Sins are wiped away and so are grudges.
The little girl is a metaphor for the children they could have had
Everyone knows children can see angels
Song is so haunting
Actually your reaction is probably a very healthy reaction. Good for you!
The little girl at the end is his youngest daughter, whose name unfortunately escapes me at the moment.
it’s alright to cry
If you get an opportunity to listen to Jacob's Dream by Alison Krauss please do. It showcases her voice beautifully. The fact it's based on a true story does make it a little difficult but you will love it.
As a veteran I’ve lost more then a few friends to suicide, this hit me hard the first time I saw it.
I believe the little girl was an angel to help them rediscover each other in death.
my dad served in ww2 when he came home my mum was there for him and only him they were married for 50years till they passed away. rest in peace mum +dad.🌹🌹♥️♥️.
Wow, I never knew that version of "These Dreams" existed. Heart was always my favorite band and anything Nancy sings I'm a fan of. Thanks for that!
everytime i listen to this song it makes me cry.... so sad
This is an incredible song, an anthem and a moral rule on why you shouldn't cheat.
This song always brings me to tears, as it stirs painful memories
ps - I was cheat on
I do feel sorry for the Lady tho, as forgiveness brings peace
keep spirit ms maggie.... always take care of your healthy..
Maggie is an amazing song and Brad is a great singer.
Great reaction
I went through this for 10yrs than I found a good woman she gave me 40yrs of love until she passed
Yes I have seen your reaction to this song. Love it. This song always makes me sad but only because I have known people do this and worse irl. 💪 One of my "old" favorites is Black Velvet by Alannah Myles. There is another country song along this vein: He Stopped Loving Her Today. by George Jones
Thank you for your lovely comment. Hope to see you TONIGHT at my LIVE stream?
He took it as being stabbed in the back by the one he loved/trusted the most...add coming back from war and it could destroy anyone.
Also the beauty of great Country music is the understanding of the flaws of humans and the hardships of life
I really love and appreciate that you took the time to talk about how it's not worth giving up over betrayal and lost love. Beautiful, and right.
Once those bonds are forged, breaking them is that much harder,
I've been your biggest fan since you did that Type O Negative reaction.
Thanks for your lovely comment! Hope you will be on my Live Stream in about 1 hour?
It's great to see NewYork, listen to Nashville!!!
