    SUMMARY
    -Those who have a lot of money don’t always flaunt their wealth. It may sound surprising, but there's no real need to buy a pair of $1,000 jeans if you can find a high-quality product that’s 10 times cheaper.
    -Things rich people don’t save on are: coffee machine, induction stove, LED light bulbs, energy-saving glass, thermostatic shower faucet.
    -Rich people don't keep their income in savings accounts; they have funds in their budget that they can invest, and they do this regularly.
    -Rich people don't overspend. If they use a credit card, they do everything to avoid paying finance charges.
    -Rich people see opportunities for growth and success in everything they do.
    -The rich are willing to overcome obstacles to achieve their goals. They realize that you can’t win without taking risks.
    -Rich people choose to face their fears to become a more successful and powerful individual.

    I'm an old woman and the most important thing I've ever learned about money comes from this story. A man was attending a party and a friend pointed to a nearby person. This man is very rich. He works all the time to earn money. He never stops. He has worked and saved for many years and probably will until he dies. My friend walked up to the rich man and said, "I have something that you will never possess." "What?" the rich man said. My friend looked at the rich man and smiled. "I have enough." My wish for all of you is that you can tell when you have enough. Then, just enjoy and share your contentment.

    Instead of contrasting rich and poor, this video contrasts good and poor money management skills. There are rich people who squander their money, and not-so-rich people who learn good money management techniques and are able to turn their lives around.
    Notice I said "not-so-rich" rather than "poor". Truly poor people can't buy even the $100 jeans mentioned here. They have to shop thrift stores or make their own clothes, cook at home rather than eating out, and must still often choose between eating and paying basic bills or health insurance. The "poor" in this video sound more like middle-class people who have yet to learn sound money management.
    That said, this video has wonderful money management tips that can help many of us (myself included) improve our financial stability.

    Obviously, the maker of this video has never actually been poor.
    The truly poor don't buy $100 jeans, nor $3.50 for a cup of coffee.
    The truly poor use one bulb in a three-bulb fixture.
    The truly poor wear thrift-store jeans.
    The truly poor cook their own food, instead of eating out... and what they're cooking is cheap stuff that expands in water, like rice, beans, and macaroni.
    Rich people have money to put to work for them.
    The truly poor have to choose between groceries and medical care. There is no money to put to work for themselves.
    How do I know these things? My husband became mentally ill... and eventually abandoned me with our two children to raise alone.

    • @JasmineSurrealVideos
      @JasmineSurrealVideos 5 ปีที่แล้ว +78

      That's very sad and I'm sorry.
      Rich people do cook at home though. My grandparents were wealthy and upper middle class with maids, etc, and my grandmother still cooked at home. I'm poor because of health and personal circumstances, and cook at home, but healthy good food like Peruvian stews, brown rice, chicken in pesto with veg, etc. Cooking at home doesn't have to be stuff that expands in water, you can cook healthy cheaply, veg from markets, end of day reductions, etc.

    • @pollyjetix2027

      Oh, believe me, I know. But the poorest of the poor are not able to shop for good deals. It takes time and money.
      I once worked as a home-health caregiver for someone who retired early from a 6-figure salaried position... she had a customized kitchen, with ALL the latest innovations, and threw away so much food! And she ate FAST FOOD most of the time! Why? Because she didn't want to get her kitchen dirty!
      And then, I had to meekly stand and listen to her rant about how they are threatening to raise minimum wage! How it would make their fast food so expensive! I dared not tell her how it was for those single mothers trying to raise their children on only $15K a year... which is minimum wage. It's simply impossible to pay rent, electric, phone, water, and taxes, plus insurance, auto repairs, gas, and groceries... and that's not touching clothes, winter heat, school fees and supplies. It never ends. And there's only a day's wages between a roof over the head, and living on the street. If one has no education, it's nearly impossible to get a job better than minimum wage... so it takes two jobs to make ends meet. Which means the children have less home life. Which means the children tend to get into more trouble...
      Why doesn't she go get more education?
      I did. I got a 2-year degree, so I could hopefully get a better income. But that meant working fewer hours, so I could study. So I took out student loans, to make ends meet, while I attended classes.
      But for the last 4 years, I've been applying for jobs in the sector I am well-qualified for (Medical office) but no one wants to hire someone with only education and no experience. I'm 55 now... and I wonder if I'll ever get an office job.
      My body is wearing out and developing issues. Diabetes. Aches and pains... I'm so tired! But I have to keep working very physical jobs, trying to pay off these student loans. My current patient must be lifted from one chair to another...
      At least my children are grown, and are productive, respectable adults. I feel my life work is pretty much over.
      I have no real purpose for living anymore. Falling in love again is a pipe dream.
      I'm exhausted. I just want to go home to heaven.

      Reminds me of an explanation given to me once. When I was in grade school, I was bused to a very low income area for school. I noticed something very out of place there, which confused me. On a block of 10 multi-family houses, at least half of them had Cadillacs in their driveways. When I was in high school, I was again bused into another low-income area for school. Noticed more of the same. As a teenager, was less restricted in where I walked, and whom I would encounter. I spoke to a guy sitting out on his porch one morning, as we all walked by toward the school. I ask this man about this phenomenon. His answer surprised me, but clarified the issue fully.
      When driving in his car, everywhere he went, people would see his Cadillac. Where he lived, everybody was all dealing with the same hopelessness of their collective financial situations. But out on the road, nobody else knew of that, and could feel like they weren't poor, even if only for fleeting moments. The "rich person" thinker, would have suggested that he should leverage the money spent on that luxury car, to propel himself out of such conditions, permanently.

    Good tips, for moving from middle to rich. However truth is, if you are truly poor you have to think differently. If you have five dollars to feed your family. A healthy meal cost 10, you must buy the cheap unhealthy options. Poor quality food can impair brain function and cause health issues. If you make 300 a week and your rent and utilities are 900, you are less likely to take financial risk if you have a family.

But I do agree that when you reach a certain status, you dont really feel the need to prove anything and you stop needing to feel validated. You tend to spend on what YOU feel is important. My clothes aren't the most expensive brands but yes I do shop for high quality items. Sometimes that can cost a lot, and surprisingly sometimes high quality clothes are cheap. And I invest my money. I dont live paycheck to paycheck. And I drive expensive cars that are paid off because I'm a car enthusiast.

    Point 5 to point 1, agreed 💯! I think the reason some of us dislike this is because it struck a nerve. When I observe my rich friends vs the not so rich ones...I see the difference. At the end of the day it boils down to your mentality. We don't need as much as we are brainwashed to think we do. Minimalism all the way. 😏

    This is not so right, because who are those who own the biggest houses in the world, the luxurious cars, the expensive jewelry, the first class flight tickets, the big schools, the flamboyant hotels etc This is to just let you know that the rich have a way of spending money extravagantly different from how average people do. Instead, these are the thought of economically rational people who are obviously not all rich . Some poor people do it too.

      You are right. The people on this channel have confused rich with well to do, who are people who are making a lot of money, let's say, $100,000 a year. Compared to someone who makes a million a year. Even then, people are different. One thing I have seen is those with new money tend to show it off, while those have had a lot for a long time, they tend to be very quiet about how they spend it.

      How "rich" is defined is the contex that's missing in this video. The people you described are far and few between. This is talking about people who are in the hundreds of thousands, but still live around your area and live normal lives and can retire comfortably.

    • @a.h.5966
      @a.h.5966 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Okay I've watched the video and totally consider myself a poor person! What I think most of us have failed to grasp from the video is - those who spend extravagantly WITHOUT actual backup plan AND JUST FOR THE CAUSE TO SHOW OFF that they have money - are poor! Think of it this way, if you dont have an income to cover your expenses (extravagant spending, to be precisely) then how can you stay "rich"? True rich people spend 1 billion in a flash because they know it wont even put a dent on their net worth. They probably will earn a billion in next month or so (just an example). While people like me will read this on news article and blame fate/luck/govt etc lol.

    My experience with "Rich People" is they can take advantage of creating businesses, having at least 2 sets of books & use tax loopholes to avoid paying as much tax as possible.
    They don't face their problems, they pass them on to others to solve or to blame for their own short comings & mismanagement.

    I think this was made by a rich person talking about the middle class. Poor people can't get a credit card. Poor people hardly can buy enough clothes for a week from Wal-Mart, much less buy high end clothes they can't afford. Poor people manage their money quite well when they have it. I've been known to stretch a dime. Poor people can't afford to follow fashion trends or invest money. Rich people tend to own their homes outright whereas, poor people pay ridiculous rents for a hole in the wall. Lets face it, rent takes over half of most of our salaries. Poor people are many times underemployed. No benefits of any kind or PTO. The rich usually have amazing insurance. Yes they have to pay for it but, they can also afford to pay for it. Sometimes, the poor remain poor because they are not willing to cross certain moral or ethical lines to become rich. That's not to say all rich people are immoral or unethical but, when you're at the bottom, some will behave badly to change their situation. There is a much broader dynamic than this even understands.

  • @orangenbluetentanz
    @orangenbluetentanz 5 ปีที่แล้ว +180

    This video makes people believe, that it's basically your own fault, if you are poor, because it insinuates poor people having a weak charakter or not knowing "how to handle" money. However the people who made this video or rich people, who obivously think spending 100$ for a pair of jeans is considered as "poor", have absolutally no clue about what it's like to actually be poor. It's not about having no money for your daily cup of coffee. That's ridiculous. There are a lot of things in life you don't have ANY controll of, that can lead you into poverty from one day to another. For example a chronic or deadly disease or an heavy accident- just to mention two of many reasons. So if this people think poverty is about spending 100$ for your jeans, I hope they will never experience what poverty is really like. It's more about "how do I literally survive next month" and constant fear.

      mizzmolly. Not true. Some people get opportunities and can exploit them, but for many others the opportunities are not there. Many people, do not earn enough to meet their basic needs or they do take a risk to start a business that does not succeed, and are left with a huge debt that puts them behind further. Our culture only highlights stories of success. You don’t hear the stories of those who tried, but did not succeed.

      @TheKim369 5 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      brontewcat - You studied Library Sciences or Journalism, the internet wipes out demand for your skills. Even worse if you owe on student loans. You marry and have a couple kids, your partner dies without insurance (they had been a Journalist and got let go). You study Social Services and the economy tanks, government cuts down on social services spending, therefore no jobs. You work in the pulp and paper industry, the internet wipes that out. You build cars and the jobs move out of the country. A family member has a preexisting condition and becomes ill. A family member is falsely accused of a crime. I hated this video it did seem to be blaming people for not being wealthy, for not having the right mindset. I understand that LED bulbs last longer, but if I only have a dollar and no light, I guess I'll have to buy the cheaper bulb.

    It should be added to point #2 that you DO lose money by saving money in a savings account.
    Depending on how long you save. The meager interest the banks offer is usually around 2-3% LESS than the general rate in inflation.
    Which, in the long run, means that the money you DO save loses up to half it's value. (Especially if you're saving for your pension.)
    On the note of the question... I have many of the qualities that define how a rich person thinks, but there are a few things I could improve upon. This video had a lot of helpful advice, most of which I knew, but it cast a new light on a few of them. The metaphor with the coffee machine actually helped me gain some clarity on something I technically knew, but could perhaps need a better grasp on.

      Naomi, yup, i think you got it right, I think the majority of millionaires live in regular houses, drive regular cars, dress modestly, live quietly. But they worked hard, saved money, and invested wisely. By the time they retire, they will be secure.

      Some rich people rent the yacht or helicopter to other people while they aren't using it to cover the cost. They would also use them while entertaining clients to give the client the impression that they made a lot of money so they would be good to do business with.

    Before reading this, if you don't understand the word _"generally",_ don't bother.
    *Here is another fact: People of wealthy parents generally end up wealthy themselves, and people of poor parents generally don't.* Yes, that wealthy parents often have better economical sense and thus pass this one to their children explain _some_ of that. But you can't get around the fact that if you happen to be born to wealthy parents you are automatically granted access to a plethora of advantages in life others do not have access to(at least in the US, and of course the developing nations etc). Here are some examples: Wealthy parents have wealthy friends, this means that all your child friends are also well off. You also life in the safest and happiest regions in your country. The best healthcare and educational options are a given, you rarely have to worry(general worries yes, but you not the extra worries related to bad economy or work injuries) about your parents or general stability of your life situation. *In general: Less energy is wasted on worrying about the environment you are living in, so you have more energy to focus on starting your own life.* When combined with the fact that you have all the tools money can buy readily available... it explains quite well why my initial statement is true.
    No, this does not mean that it's true for

    Rich people never go into debt; they don't finance cars, they pay cash for a car they can afford instead. Rich people use debit cards not credit cards. Even if you habitually pay off a credit card each month, you are still buying more than you need to. Lots of research shows this. Rich people save money every pay check. You should aim to save 15% of every check. Rich people have an emergency fund of about $2000 that they never touch unless there is an unexpected and unavoidable emergency. This prevents you from having to borrow for life's unexpected problems. Rich people don't take out a 30 year mortgage. 15 years is the maximum and they focus on paying as much extra as they can over and above the minimum payment. Paying your mortgage weekly instead of monthly also greatly reduces the interest you have to pay over the life of the loan. Rich people cook at home and take their lunch to work every day instead of buying food out.

    • @skeptical_sorcerer

      @@tesmith47 wrong. Most "rich" people are working people. Regular people who have saved and invested. They are knon as everyday millionaires. Take a look at Dave Ramsay's TH-cam channel for proof. The overwhelming % of millionaires in the USA are people with jobs and pay days. That's just a fact. And I am living proof. I am a regular working person and a millionaire. It is you who doesn't know what he is talking about and will remain "poor" :)

    • @janvanwagner2163
      @janvanwagner2163 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's also a good list for how to GET wealthy- or at least better off than you are. Credit availability has ruined our ability to gain wealth. We were always close to the poverty line in earnings & had not a spare penny to "save". Over the years we managed to pay off our own home and property, cars, And continue to expand our assets. Once the big items were paid in full , that money could go into other things. ( imagine folks , what you could afford without a mortgage, rent, or car payments ?) We owe nobody anything and never have. You gain by accumulating, not by throwing cash away for temporary gratification !

    Answers as per Karl Marx : -
    1. Rich people don't try to show off their wealth is false and propaganda.
    2. Only rich people follow blindly the latest fashion trend.
    3. Poor people wear trendy cloths because trends are set by garment companies of rich people.
    4. Rich people invest money in certain expensive items because poor people priorities are different.
    5. Rich people know how to manage their money. Its because they have surplus money.
    6. "Rich people choose to face their fears to become a more successful and powerful individual"-- This is called vicious cycle of capitalism.

      Karl Marx actually said that capitalism followed by Democratic socialism followed by socialism... were all necessary stages in The evolutionary timeline for Humanity, before communism.

    I'm as poor as dirt. I'm doing good just keeping my bills paid every month. I shop at the Goodwill or the DAV. I make sure the clothes look stylish. It's good to buy a few packs of RIT dye just in case for jeans, or just to switch up the color. I don't get my shoes there though. I make my own earrings and I go to the pawn shop for certain kinds of appliances. This saves me enough $$ for food. I make all of my car care products. For car maintenance products, I hit walmart. There's a lot of recipe sites on the web.

      If you keep up your current habits, like paying your bills, living economically, etc., there is a lot of hope for your future. Work hard, try to get a raise or a better job, stay frugal, live within your means, trust God, and in a few years, you may be amazed at how far you can go. I moved out at age 19 with nothing. And no education. I washed dishes, bagged groceries, mowed lawns. I was sinking fast. I turned to God, and went thru some tough times, but He turned my career around and in the end He gave me a great job. And I never forgot to honor God and to be frugal. Now I live comfortably. Don't give up!

    Striving for inner peace and tranquility should be the focus of each person. We do need money but besides feeding our egos we do not need large amounts of money to be happy.I knew a millionaire who could not enjoy life because of his greed for more. Focus on the whole person including your spiritual self....your health....help others....and you will have inner peace that money cannot buy .

    • @drakingp2119
      @drakingp2119 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      But what if making more money helps you get to that inner peace because it helps you accomplish things you couldn't before? I mean money can't buy happiness, but you can use it to make problems go away that make you unhappy. I mean also you're version of inner peace can be obtained differently than other people, this advice only works in a perfect world, but people have their own dreams an aspirations. What if people like challenge and striving hard to earn so much money that they can just sit back and relax, what if they want to see how far they can go? getting to that inner peace is a good premise, but in the end it still comes down to what that peace means to the person gunning for it. So that millionaire could have been enjoying life cause he liked to get more and more money, rather than just settle. Helping people is good, morally. I mean heck one guy tried to break the economy for fun, for fun, it took another rich dude to bail out the government basically. We can say stuff like this, but the world is still gonna be the same, people who do what they want to be happy, whether it helps them or hurts them.
