Great review 🤟🏻 The build quality on these products are unreal as expected from the Germans. One note to mention is a full setup of motogadget will set you back around £1500 (all depends on accessories) It’s a lot of money for something you can’t see someone once told me, but in my opinion well worth it. The hardest thing to do with a custom build is make is look clean and simple. Often the cleaner the build is the more it costs and most folk don’t realise this. Motogadet allows you to have this effortlessly. Looking forward to seeing more 👍
I agree with your comments, Moto Gadget gear is excellent quality but it is expensive. I have one of the early m units on my 74 CB550 with ‘M Blaze’ indicators that cost a packet all together. And your right, ones the wiring is done and the M unit is out of sight, it is quickly forgotten, I mean, how many times are you gonna change the way your lights flash after your done, you just want to ride the thing!
Wayne Hawes I like your comment and yes you are right. Having the alarm and everything jammed into one little box to make it so tidy with an app to control it all is what I love about this.
It can be an expensive setup, but you can see it. Every time you get on your bike you see it and someone who appreciates a good build will see it as well. 100% worth the money especially if you’re rewiring from scratch. Great video Dan.
Thank you Garry, It may seem like a lot however as you know its not just an eBay purchase so like you said the Germans have some serious quality in their products and anyone who has this on their bike will vouch for that I'm sure. as humans, we will always spend money on the things we love and enjoy.
Brilliant Video. Ive been building my own bikes on and off for over 25 years, and ive been waiting for something like this unit from the start to get rid of the horrible OEM switches off the bars .
That was actually my first question, I suppose this system is for people who want if someone wants a really clean look at they could completely avoid it needing a key they would do it so I would say having a backup fob might be an option there too, I mean it's a neat concept that all you need is your phone except for when it doesn't work which things tend to do
I have a set of glassless barend mirrors and I can only congratulate you for finding the best product on the market. They are truly the best! Expensive, yes...but worth it.
When I first heard about the m.unit I didnt realize just how cool it actually is and I thought it was really expensive, but all these functions really are worth the pricetag. Great video and very informative, I think my 98 Monster might get the motogadget treatment sometime in the future :D
Hi! Once again, THANKYOUVERYMUCH!!! Great job again. And the most amazing elemet you have installed is the MotoGadget mo-unit Blue. There's no words... Thank you very much and keep it up!!
Quick tip for making this type of connection look very clean: Put solder on the end so the individual wires stay together and then use heat shrink to only expose as much as you need. Makes it look very neat and clean compared to just having a stripped wired.
3 year old train but sharing is caring: You shouldn’t solder wires that go into clamped (spring or screw clamped) terminals. This is well known in industry. The solder will slowly cold flow and/or deform under pressure and leave you with a connection that slowly (and intermittently) goes faulty. Crimped ferrules are better and nothing is actually best from a connector stand point. All this is most important for connection transmitting power (like your headlight)
I’ve added an M-Unit Blue to my 1987 Harley-Davidson FXR. The thing is absolutely ridiculous. I run the M-Unit Blue, Motogadget Motoscope Mini, and M-Blaze Disc blinkers. Can’t recommend Motogadget enough. Great stuff! Nice review video!
Thanks so much for positing this. I am rebuilding my 1958 Norton Dommi Racer and I want to have the Motogadget equipment for it. It looks like a great set up and even makes sense to someone like myself who’ not a fan of wiring at all.
Hi Dan. Great Job. I also restoring a CB750 to Café Racer. I have 2 questions. If I use the M Unit do i Need an extra Regulator/rectifyer? And 2 what is the Shown Can Bus for? Thanks Mike
1st time viewer. commenting very early in the video but that intro is fire. + i have one of these and it has revolutionized my bike. There's a lot of cool features you can control from your phone, and when i make the lights dance from across the parking lot, seemingly by magic, people are naturally impressed. plus all the security features are pretty slick (when random ppl comment on it as i'm walking up to it, I'll be like ya, touch the handle bars and see what happens lol, they all get scared). pricey but if you're rebuilding worth every single penny, if not for the features, for the simplicity of wiring, if you know how to ground a wire, and read a manual you good to go. programmed most of it on cheap amazon bar buttons with no issues.
Great review Dan! I too am a huge fan of all that motogadget makes. I’m loving your build so far and it continues to be an inspiration for mine. I’m currently doing my electronics as well.
Personally the m-button didn't do much to simplify my front end wiring because I still had ground wires for the switches and bar end indicator wires running from the bars. And I'm not a fan of having 3 of the mbutton wires running from one clip on bar to the other.
Beautiful work on this and the whole project! 👍 Have to ask cause i am building also seven fifty cafe racer right now and planning to use m.unit to run electronics. So do you have wiring diagram left on this one? This would help my wiring a lot! 🤗
I've already bought that mirror but in another shape and I think I bought some more product but can't remember which, because I haven't had the time the last two years to do any of the modifications, and I am pretty happy about that because I had no idea that the Mo.Unit was so powerful. I've been planning to redo the complete electrical system on my Yamaha 1100 Dragstar Custom '99 for long time so now I really have a good reason for it.
Sweet man, thanks for the information! Going to set this up on my CB450! Where can get the mo button for handlebars from? I cant find it on their site! SOS
I’m not to sure why they are not listed, however, they do reply fast to emails so just shoot Heiko at motogadget an email to and explain where you saw them and I’m sure he can help you out 😁
I don't know exactly where you live, but in the USA the easiest place to find motogadget stuff is buying it through Revival Cycles in Texas. Their site has a lot of related stuff, including wiring kits that they've assembled to make a unit install easier.
@@CafeRacerGarage nor did I, like you mentioned there are so many settings, I have not tried half of them. this was a very good intro video for ppl who are unaware of aftermarket motorcycle electronic parts. Any mechanic will tell you that wiring might be one of the most frustrating things in a rebuild, but it does not have to be, and no I do not work for the company but the fact that someone has made their brain child available for us common folk is very humbling. It reduces your loom to next to nothing, just for that it's worth it.
@@CafeRacerGarage I really wish this type of product was more pushed in north america, had I known about this when it came out, even V1, even just knowing that was possible, would have saved me, I'd call it, hundreds of hours of racking my brain. It's almost like OEM config is made to confuse you. I refuse to abide by that diy or die.
I've fitted the M Unit Blue to me 1967 Dnepr K650, and it works great. The only thing i'm stuck on is connecting the 2 wire B&W built in regulator /alternator wires (obviouly the black wire goes to the battery - but where would I connect the red wire to the ignition or M Unit Blue. As the ignition runs straight to the M Unit, so Im unsure as to were I would connent the red wire. Any help on this matter guys would be greatly appricated. Cheers Jeff
I have the m button and m unit blue installed on my Harley FXR. With there not being a kill switch what should the setting be on the m ride app under kickstand. My bike shuts itself off while backing in to a park spot. Does this just about every time I ride it. All wires have been checked and all seem normal. I really wish someone would do an in depth tutorial using the app.
I’ve looked into them for my Harley build. I’ve got a fuel injected touring bike that I’d like to replace the main harness with. It has cruise as well. Any tips or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks
I am changing the loom of one of my Yamaha FZR 1000 Exup, this one from 1989. It was rebuild in 1991 to a naked, a monster bike years before Ducati came with one. Now I am doing it again to get away of the massive loom going to the dash, lights and so on. To make it neither I am splitting the loom up in two seven wires looms and one earth one. So three smaller looms go to the front above the radiator. But this unit seems to be a better way, so for the next FZR maybe I will give that one a go.
I'm curious, how are your handlebar controls assigned? You have three buttons on your left - signals and horn I assume, and two buttons on the right - kill switch and starter? Is your set up pretty common? What configuration would anyone ever need three on both side for?
After watching this vid I went off n bought the my unit blue the indicators the mini n bracket n m lock n mod buttons ..... But I've kinda ran into a problem early on of all the vids on the net I can't find one for a suzuki bandit 12 mk 1 solenoid I got 2 red coming out at top a ground n what I believe is a earth.... Do you know is it the ground or earth (yellow/green) that goes into the start also I believe there is a anti tamper 100 amp fuse/wire thing in the ignition barrel. Does that mean I don't need that now I've got the m lock, any help would be greatly appreciated
Mo-Unit Blue: it’s ridiculously compact and intelligent compared to even current motorcycle manufacturers electrical systems. If I were a manufacturer I’d be talking with these guys for sure.
If I have the diagram couldn't I just cut the wires at the connector for the fuse and junction box and use the factory harness? Obviously a fresh clean install is ideal but...?
Fantastic Vid! Quick question for you. Im running a motoscope mini and the m unit. Do you know how to wire the yellow tachometer from the motoscope mini? It says to wire to the negative pole of one ignition coil. Have no idea how i figure that out lol. Thanks in advance!
So does it just need 12 volt and ground to function ? Doesn't need a certain amount of amps I'm wondering if I can rig this up on an onyx electric bike
Just wondering.... I have a Blade that has the lights on with ign. Just a high low beam switch. can this thing run with that sort of set up ? I'm guessing it can

He doesn't. These are just concept bikes. Do you ever see these things on the road? They eventually get sold to some ignorant sod that has an expensive paperweight ;)
@@sigma_kappa I could never do that to someone, It would mess with my integrity too much and I won't be selling my bikes, I only build them for myself.
Hello Dan, great video as usual. I'm wiring my Munit at the moment. I'm using the supplied feral crimps with the wiring kit. I'm finding that the 2.5mm output cables like the blue starter circuit don't hold in, just a simple pull on the wire they fall out. Am I doing something wrong? Are you using the ferals? Other question on the Mbutton I've got clip on bars, can you use 2x Mbutton? Do you think it will work with two Mbutton's plugged in? I'm thinking it will.
Once again you never miss a video do you 💪 😊 thanks mate and yeah it’s definitely one of the coolest things I’ve done to my bike and totally worth the investment
Great video thanks. Right at the end it seems you had an ignition control module somewhere in there. Please share your wiring diagram, because that module is what's got me in a twist - there are no guides for that anywhere on the internet that I have found.
I have an 81 Yamaha XJ550 Seca project bike that I was thinking about adding the M Unit too. I was going to do it after I got the bike running but after watching this im sold.
Great questions Tim firstThe boxIs actually for my projector headlight. The ignition module was the part that we all waiting for and it's just in front of mo.unit, you can just see it if you look close enough
Would this give me the capability to run like a morimoto super7 headlight? Or would I need to upgrade the charging system also? And how well is it roadworthy? I ride a hour to work one way and put a lot of miles on riding season. I’ll put 1200 miles a week just going to work.
Thinking about one for my GPZ900R mainly as the oem fusebox uses an unobtanium connector (seriously no one stocks it or has any idea who even made it for Kawasaki) Will say you need to tidy up those connections, copper shouldn't be showing, its asking for a short and it just looks scruffy and takes 2 secs to sort out.
thank you for your videos on the mo blue unit very good tutorial, I like to know what the can bus unit is for or just to give more power regards Robert
Great review! Thanks! I am planning to make a new hasness from scratch. Never did before. Adding this M unit + battery and wires, I will be set? Sorry if my question is dumb. I am virgin about motorcycles electric systems. The bike it's a 1982 Yamaha Virago XV920.
The M Units (ie including the m-button) allow you to replace the 'top half' of your bike's wiring with a radically-simplfied version. All the handlebar wiring (even eg the brake-light switches); all the idiot lights wiring; all the blinker, tail/brake wiring, headlight wiring; the neutral switch, oil pressure warning and the kick-stand down switch wiring. They allow you the remove the blinker units, starter solenoid, all the fuses (and radically simplify all the wiring to those things in the process). They add a theft-alarm and immobilizer function. But they DON'T replace the 'bottom-half' of your bike's wiring - ie all the charging system, diode boards, the coils, points (or electronic ignition), and pretty much anything else entering or exiting the engine itself. Bottom line is that properly replacing the entire top half of a bike's wiring system is (with some exceptions) beyond the capability of most non-experts and definitely beyond those of they average backyard tinkerer. In contrast, the M-Units can be successfully installed by almost anyone with a few electrician's tools, a workshop manual with a wiring diagram of the target bike, a bit of time on their hands, and some careful thought , reading and planning. It's even easier if you get all the Motogadget peripherals (blinkers, switches and speedometer/instrument/idiot light unit), but they are expensive...
Have a problem, when I turn on the main beam with the m-bottom, the taillight goes out. If I turn off the main beam, the tail light will light up. If I blink with the main beam, I light the taillight all the time
That is strange how yours says mo.unit blue and mine says m.unit blue. I also ordered the m blade mirrors (which I’m still waiting for), and yours says mo. instead of just m. They are cool products none the less. I love my blue unit in my bike. 74’ cb 750 k4. Made everything simple for me.
Tibby That is a very good question and unfortunately I haven’t dived into the settings that deeply but hopefully someone here can answer that for you and if not I would recommend asking Motogadget themselves, Knowing Motogadget I would definitely not be too worried about the bike switching off like that while you’re riding it. They tend to think of everything
Hi Dan ! Have been following you for a while. I got a 1993 cb seven fifty. Looking forward to buy mo.unit ! I have some question. Do you still need a key ? Or do you need the mo.lock ? What about if you forgot your phone haha ? Very good content ! Cheers from Mexico !
That’s awesome dude and to answer your questions no you don’t need a key. And you won’t need the Mo.lock, however, having said that you do have a couple of options here, You can purchase the Mo.lock with the glass tube that can be sewn into a glove and works the same as the transponder key so you don’t have to have any keys on you. You can also set up an override ignition in case you lose your phone or don’t have it with you or it goes flat. I hope that answers all of your questions. Have a great day mate
This is exactly the question I was going to ask! Thanks for the info Dan. You are getting close to the end of this build. Can't wait to see the end product. I would love to do a CB one day.
I love the motogadget stuff, i did not do any of it on my cx because it was all way above my budget but if i do another bike in the future i will definately use an m unit and get rid of that nightmarish bike electrics.
I am going to chuck one of these in my KZ750 build , they are the bee’s knees . Dan did you redo the whole loom again ? Or did you use some of the spaghetti monster wiring ?
My friend Wilis was giving me a hand with the wiring and we replaced everything we could. Spaghetti monster has a new nickname that will be revelled sometime in a video :)
That really depends on a few factors. It will work with most bikes, but newer ones will have more and more proprietary electronics that won't work well with the Mo.unit. Anything with carbs is pretty easy to install it on though. EFI bikes can run one as well, you just need to make sure to do your research on what needs to still be connected to make the fuel injection run properly.

How have you gone with passing road worthy with the seat frame modification? Did it need to be engineered?
He doesn't. These are just concept bikes. Do you ever see these things on the road? They eventually get sold to some ignorant sod that has an expensive paperweight ;)
Easy with a mod plate and or engineer certificate
@@sigma_kappa I could never do that to someone, It would mess with my integrity too much and I won't be selling my bikes, I only build them for myself.
Hi Can this unit be used on a car instead of the fuse box as i am building a car from scratch and was wondering about this unit thank you
What are the direction indicators used on this bike please?
Hello Dan, great video as usual. I'm wiring my Munit at the moment. I'm using the supplied feral crimps with the wiring kit. I'm finding that the 2.5mm output cables like the blue starter circuit don't hold in, just a simple pull on the wire they fall out. Am I doing something wrong? Are you using the ferals? Other question on the Mbutton I've got clip on bars, can you use 2x Mbutton? Do you think it will work with two Mbutton's plugged in? I'm thinking it will.
Where can I find the LED blinkers you are using?
Wow great "GADGET" a flashing brake light would save me from doing it myself when gearing down 🤜🤛
Nice review m8 : )
Once again you never miss a video do you 💪 😊 thanks mate and yeah it’s definitely one of the coolest things I’ve done to my bike and totally worth the investment
Great video thanks. Right at the end it seems you had an ignition control module somewhere in there. Please share your wiring diagram, because that module is what's got me in a twist - there are no guides for that anywhere on the internet that I have found.
I have an 81 Yamaha XJ550 Seca project bike that I was thinking about adding the M Unit too. I was going to do it after I got the bike running but after watching this im sold.
Where did you get the seat, its exactly what im looking for
Love my Munit blue really works well Bluetooth connection has been the only issue
Good overview thanks Dan. Two questions, what is the can bus box next to the m unit and where have you hidden the spark unit?
Great questions Tim firstThe boxIs actually for my projector headlight. The ignition module was the part that we all waiting for and it's just in front of mo.unit, you can just see it if you look close enough
Would this give me the capability to run like a morimoto super7 headlight? Or would I need to upgrade the charging system also? And how well is it roadworthy? I ride a hour to work one way and put a lot of miles on riding season. I’ll put 1200 miles a week just going to work.
Thinking about one for my GPZ900R mainly as the oem fusebox uses an unobtanium connector (seriously no one stocks it or has any idea who even made it for Kawasaki)
Will say you need to tidy up those connections, copper shouldn't be showing, its asking for a short and it just looks scruffy and takes 2 secs to sort out.
Got a link to those signal lights of yours? Thanks
Good video on the topic thanks. But how about some info on that ultra bright turn signal you mentioned? Link to it or who manufactures it please?
That looks cool👍, I just wonder about the seat with the light ,where I can get it for my XS1100, thanks

So if i get the mo unit will it replace my cdi box?
guess you still need a voltage regulator/rectifier to dc ? also anybody recommend a good brand regulator ?
thank you for your videos on the mo blue unit very good tutorial, I like to know what the can bus unit is for or just to give more power regards Robert
Thank you mate, that is for my headlight projector
Thanks for your Great Content!
Mo. is the new name :)
What's involved in the conversion ... Cost ect ..
Could you share a link to those turn signals?
What would be the installation time for the unit for a bike mechanic? I'm not confident to do it myself...
All depends on his skill level, It could take 1 - 5 days, Its hard to give an exact answer I'm sorry Ben, where are you located?
@@CafeRacerGarage thanks, that is good to know. I'm in New Zealand.
@@CafeRacerGarage Auckland to be specific, if you know anyone over here that could do it!
Hey, does mo.button will be work with mo.unit.blue ??
Great explanation and video will definitely be getting myself one
Hey! I want to buy this product; can you help me....
im working in a Yamaha Dragstar 1100cc project (cafe) is this product will fit?
Near field communication/start, is there a risk while riding the unit thinks you are not near and shuts off? ie phone goes flat?
Tibby That is a very good question and unfortunately I haven’t dived into the settings that deeply but hopefully someone here can answer that for you and if not I would recommend asking Motogadget themselves, Knowing Motogadget I would definitely not be too worried about the bike switching off like that while you’re riding it. They tend to think of everything
Hey mate. Where are the indicators from?
Awesome. After watching loads of reviews, it seems like the mo-unit is expensive but probably more than worth it.
Yes they are very cool
P.S the m button is awesome as the m mini switches.Everything they make is brilliant.
Can it run heated gloves on one of the aux outputs? Or is that too much of a draw?
I'm actually not to sure about that, maybe email them. Please let me know the answer to this when you find out
Cafe Racer Garage Thanks Dan ! Can’t wait to see it done ! Awesome work.
This is a great review video! Thanks for posting it.
What switch’s are those. I want those.
This product looks great. I just don’t have an installer to do the job… My weekend are for enjoying the Ducati.
I really like those turn signals. Where did you get them?
I'm pretty sure they are the Motogadget m-Blaze Pin LED Turn Signals
Where can I find those little turn signals?
Motogadget sell them, they called M blaze
I have a few of 80's and 90's sportbikes that I've modded. Will this be a good fit for them?
That really depends on a few factors. It will work with most bikes, but newer ones will have more and more proprietary electronics that won't work well with the Mo.unit. Anything with carbs is pretty easy to install it on though. EFI bikes can run one as well, you just need to make sure to do your research on what needs to still be connected to make the fuel injection run properly.
@@Elvirth24 Appreciate the info. Thanks!!
Thx for the review! Where can I find those blinding flasher lights? Thx
To answer my own question... Motogadget M-Blaze pin turn signal
Thank you mate. Great question and well answered LOL 😂
You got me convinced, I'll put that in my bike, hopefully very soon :)
That’s awesome mate you definitely won’t regret it
@@CafeRacerGarage I won't, my wallet will :D
Does this replace also a cdi?
Not you still need that
Where did you purchase your 3 button handlebar control from?
Motogadget
