Great video. Spot on. Some of those skills a scout knows can be taught easier than others. If you're deficient in receiving by over framing etc, that's fixable; but, you can't teach everyone to be the on-field coach. Or to control the run game.
hey trent, thanks for the comment. we will get some more advanced blocking videos out. Check this video out; it's got some good stuff on blocking: th-cam.com/video/K7MRE5A1XWc/w-d-xo.html And if you are a catcher, send me a video of you blocking, throwing, or receiving and I'll get you a free video analysis!
Great video 👍. All the things he talks about is the greatest attributes to a great catcher. My 9 year old son is being taught by his travel coach all these things he's talking about. Your going to be expected to be athletic enough to block and think on your feet and know your play in 90degree heat with all that gear on. But one thing I will add is that you gotta 💯 want it. Coaches and scouts alike will see that.
If anyone out there has the insane desire to play the catcher position you MUST be as proficient in the intangibles such as leadership, controlling the run game, and the most important c word...CONFIDENCE! #1 requirement is you have to love the position and all of its responsibility. Otherwise you are going to be hating life with a mouthful of dirt. You have to be as mentally tough as you are physically. These are great videos to teach said intangibles.
yes I love Rawlings as well... I'm actually using a Rawlings this year playing overseas but I think my favorite glove has been my old A2000. I just like the feel a little bit more.
@@CatchingIQ I ended up getting a Hypershell HOH that I currently game that formed like complete trash. I’m currently breaking in a Pro Issue A2000 and it feels WAY better than the HOH. I’m considering trading a bat for an all star right now as well.
I know this is a little late but can you explain more on what bringing a throw that was a ball back into the zone? Does this mean when it’s far out the zone or slightly out?
Thanks for your comment.... when we're receiving, we need to get close pitches called strikes. If they are way out of the strike zone we don't want to try and get those called strikes. Here's a good video to help you with your receiving skills: th-cam.com/video/UAzZABN3W-A/w-d-xo.html
I’m just really wanting to go D1. I’m only 13 and I catch for pitchers who throw about 60. I average 1-2 runners thrown out per game and about 1-2 passes balls. Any advice on what I should do to get better?
keep working hard, you should be trying to limit your pass balls to an average of less than 1 per game. send me an email and I can send you some info on what I can do to help you get there catchingiq@gmail.com
A passed ball is a pitch you can reasonably catch, but you don't so a runner advances. If the ball hits the dirt before reaching the catcher then it's a wild pitch if the runner advances. Passed balls, if scored correctly, should be not more than 1 in 10 games. Our 13U catcher had 4 in 180 innings caught. But like I said, you may be confusing balls that you should block, but don't. That's a whole other issue and are technically not scored as a passed ball.
I just want to ask something which is related with the tip number 5 is batting, so my questions is, Is the third bat a good batter? Or the order of batter doesnt matter
First step is to pay attention to the game; if you know what’s going on and what needs to happen you can help direct your teammates. If you don’t understand situations or everyone’s responsibilities you can’t be a leader.
tHAT IS A GREAT VIDEO AND MY SKILLS ON HITTING IS TO BATS ON BOTHS SIDES OF THE PLATE SWITCH HITTING IN BASEBALL!

The intangibles are hard to teach.

Any mitt recommendations? I currently use a Rawlings gold glove.

@@farmer_brwn3433 anything less than a1000 is pretty bad leather quality and wouldn’t last longer than one bullpen with my pitchers sitting mid 80s

Great vid, very helful
do you have any tips for catchers who are scared of blocking, and any advice on better receivingving
The more experience you get blocking the less you’ll be afraid of it. More and more reps is the best way to get to that point.
Those in that order are definitely the top things to become a good catcher…now reverse the order and you have what scouts/recruiters are looking for.
im a catching coach in middle school and id like to have you guys take a look at my personal receiving and give me some pointers.
Hey Matt, we do video analysis of catchers. You can send me an email at catchingiq@gmail.com and we can set that up. Thanks

If you hit third in the batting order that is a good thing. You want your best hitters to hit at the top of the order so they get the most at bats.
IMO, most important part of catching is being the most noticeable player on the field. you are the anomaly on defense, act it.
Definitely lots ways to stand out as a catcher!
How do I be a general on the field
