    I'll save you 12 Minutes:
Mexico (national team and domestic league) have suffered from a shift in focus from a sporting focus to a financial focus. They know fans are passionate, so there is no need for the teams to perform because fans will support no matter what.
Coupled with broadcasting station influence on games, players and coverage, it's now more than ever a show as opposed to a sport. They've gotten rid of relegation, they expanded the playoff spots from top 8 to top 12 to accomodate "TOP" teams underperforming. Players that come through academies are no longer coming through based on talent, but based on who the players know and how 'marketable they are'. Even still, it's easier for teams to buy a foreign player ready for the first team, than to raise a local academy prospect.
Business has taken over the sport, and this the sporting results have fallen. Fans are now showing the frustration, attendance has fallen, hurting the pockets of the owners of the league and the teams. Mexican soccer needs competition, because the broadcasting stations have a monopoly, 1 broadcasting station owns about half the league, which then pushes influence into the national team.

If anything I'd argue we've had only scattered sparks and glimmers of hope in an otherwise mediocre, remarkably underwhelming and disappointing football history, the last of which was either the 2012 Olympic gold medal or the 2018 World Cup process all the way until the match vs Sweden.

Liga MX honestly wasn’t bad. It showed in the national team since most of the players played in MX. Many copa America finals and playing head on with anyone. Mexico used to be a dark horse for a long time and where great to watch. But around 2015 when Osorio became DT and made a squad that he overplayed and had no real style and became an embarrassment to watch after the big losses he had and still stuck with the same players even if there was great talent popping off he would ignore them. Then tata martino took over and didn’t develop nothing new and somehow made it to WC which was the worst in a long time. I call osorios era the lost generation because he had such good talent at the time just wasted. It went downhill after that and losing Copa libertadores and the descending in the league also hurt it badly

The match against Germany was the only good think of Osorio tenure, but then when SC won 2 - 0 against them we reallised Mexico won against the worst Germany of the last decades. That's the point i stopped watching our national team. I'm not stupid, i know our limits, but at least back then they played with heart.

Not only the owners of the clubs have more power than the league administration and have shifted to a purely profit-based approach, but adding to the problem I think the corruption is so blatant that the league allows the owners of the sports betting casino that sponsors the entire league to own a club, making it the biggest conflict of interest in modern sports imo. Stuff like that has led a lot of fans to suspect controversial calls in games or just plain matchfixing, leading to plummeting game attendance in the entire league.

We need this if we ever want a chance at making anything out of our league again:
Honestly, copy what Brazil does, if we’re being real.
Re-add Copa MX (Spot for International Competitions)
20 team Liga MX (double round robin, no liguilla, bottom 4 relegated to Ascenso MX)
20 team Ascenso MX (double round robin, no liguilla, top 4 promoted to Liga MX, bottom 4 relegated to Liga Premier A)
20 team Liga Premier A (double round robin, no liguilla, top 4 promoted to Ascenso, bottom 4 relegated to Liga Premier B)
24 team Liga Premier B (2 groups of 12, double round robin, liguilla (top 4 teams in each group, semi-finalists promoted to Liga Premier A, bottom 2 of each group relegated to Liga TDP)
64 team Liga TDP (8 groups of 8, double round robin, top 4 of each group make it to Round of 32, Semifinalists promoted to Liga Premier B)
Make State leagues for all 32 states (all teams, even Liga MX, play these, and the best teams not in a national league already qualify to Liga TDP for next season like in Brazil, and for Copa MX as well, etc.) (Each state gets 1-4 spots in Liga TDP based on how good they are as a whole league)
Overall, for max talent, just be like Brazil. Nothing much to say.

To be fair and honest, I am a Mexican-American who was fortunate enough to be born in the US praise be to God but also live in Mexico and for a brief moment know the fact that USA and Mexico are 2 countries that have the passion and the fans. However, yes you are right that Mexico haven't been good outside of Mexico, it is worth noting that in 1986 Mexico advanced to the quarter finals, and ever since then, Mexico has NEVER advanced that far despite the many players I seen Mexico in the past now have like Jorge Campos, Jonathan and Giovani Dos Santos, Rafa Marquez, Hugo Sanchez. It shows how much Mexico wants to be in their comfort zone, and when I was in Mexico and asked several youth players whom I have had the opportunity to be playing and training with (I was 25 at the time) if they want to be professional, they said yes, but they never want to be in Europe, for not being able to speak any other language besides Spanish, for them leaving their families, for some of them not having the proper documentation or papers to apply or to go outside of Mexico, but also because they get pay in USD instead of Mexican pesos. If Mexico wants to be stellar in 2026, which will be 40 years since 1986 I am not sure they will be as good as the past players before. Even if they do have the chance to change, it will take more than just 20 months to do this considering the very short time span and the stubborness of the Mexican federation and with the non-compliance with many of the fans too. Cheers from USA amigo!

As a chivas fan i hate they keep trying to stick to the "only mexican nationals". Other teams take advantage of that since they know chivas have limited options.
Also the natuonal team seems more concerned with making money. Why the f would they play only in the US and barely in mexico?
Weve seen how a stadium amd home advamtage affects the game but yet, they decide to male tournaments where both leagues play ONLY in the US.
They also elevate players to "messi" levels as soon as they make a good play or a couple of nice goals.
I also feel that with so many sponsors... one or 2 may have influence with the teams on who they hire or decisions they take.

I've lived in the US for close to 40 years now. While the US is not a soccer power globally speaking, the way they are developing talent and the lack of overall corruption is pushing MLS in front of Liga MX. Sheer numbers show the difference. Over 200 US players are now in Europe. Barely 35 from Liga MX are over there. Personally I won't be following the Mexican team during the 2026 World Cup. I'm done with them. Me not following them won't make a difference of course. But I'm not going to spend my time, energy, and passion on a team that doesn't care about its fans anymore and that is in a clear downward spiral.

Hmm i don't think safety is the reason people are losing interest in football over here. That has always been an issue but it didn't mattered, millions of people would watch matches and attend to their favorite team stadium. For me, the reasons are these:
-No relegation/promotion. The 18 clubs got together and forced the idea that it would be "better for the league" with a bunch of stupid arguments, and since they control the money, they can do whatever they want (mostly the top 4 clubs). This makes the league more boring since there are not consequences of having a bad season, the bottom teams varely care. No exciting relegation/promotion race. Even if you dont root for any of the teams strugling, you still would follow them to see what happens. This also stops investment and development in the teams on the lower leagues, since they can't get to the top on sporting terms. The only way to reach the top division is through a bunch of roadblocks. The top teams claim that it's for the "improvement of the league" but we all know it's so they don't lose their influence and power. The idea that a bunch of teams on the top divisions on Spain, Italy and France and other top European legues wouldn't be able to join our league is aberrant.
-Mediocre format. We already had a format that encouraged mediocrity (you could be placed 8th in the league, and still manage to be a champion with a couple of lucky wins), but now even if you are placed 12th and still have a chance to be a champion. So you can tank half the season and still manage to get in, so most matches doesn't matter. The league did this to generate more money with more matches but makes it boring to the regular supporter.
-Popularity matters more than being in form. The players that go to the NT and play aren't our best most of the time, are the most popular, the ones with the most endorsements. Sponsors put a lot of preasure on our NT and federation so they field these players that they are using on their ads, and since our NT generate a lot of money through thiese deals, they often do what the sponsors say. Chicharito Hernandez, a Mexican legend, but from 2012-2014 he played like trash for the NT and still played even though Oribe Peralta (on of my favorite Mexican players ever) was on much better form. It took a lot of pressure from Mexican supporters to get him out of the starting line up. There are A LOT of examples, but thats one our international friends would know. Check what the late Sven-Göran Eriksson said during his time managing our NT.
-Money speaks. "pacto de caballeros" as you mentioned. Great talent needing to pay bribes so they can get rise the ranks of their clubs. Important clubs having way too much influence on our federation, referee association and league, etc. Many many problems...

They don't deserve mexican soccer fans who are now either moving on to other more productive hobbies like spending time with friends or family outside or self-improvement or they are switching to alternative and more entertaining (competitive) sports like NFL, MLB, boxing and even the local mexican baseball league. It all sums up to bad short term decisions by directives and team owners. I believe that the ones that made more damage to the sport are:
    - Leaving the promotion-relegation system
    - Changed long tournament format to short
    - Championship decided by play-off format instead of scored points
    - Giving up to 10 teams out of 18 a chance to be champion (promotes mediocrity, not meritocracy)
    - Inflated salaries. Young players don't fell the need to migrate to better leagues in Europe
    - Nationalize low quality foreign players instead of debuting young locals cause they're more experienced and/or cheaper
    - Extending time periods to terminate multi ownership
There are many other issues that lessen the quality and credibility of LigaMx and the national team; now that ratings on tv, cabel and streamming services are droping and stadiums are nearly empty on match day, the people who run mexican football better start making decisions that well balance both sport and economics.

It's mostly blamed on the league, but the reality is that talented players are being born elsewhere but Mexico. The Mexico born players are good enough to compete locally not abroad. There has been a generational transition in the national team for the past 5 years, however the skill/level is nowhere near what it was historically for Mexico. We'll have to wait at least 10 years for the younger generation to grow and show what it has. Other countries are really lucky to have players born with so much talent.

Corrections from a born and raised Mexican football fan:
0:01 I appreciate the effort but you missed the pronunciation of Guadalajara. The G sounds just like the G in English when the next letter is a or o. It only sounds like an h when the next letter is e or i. So its "Guadalahara", not "Huadalahara".
3:25 stadiums are rarely full. Only in the knockout stages of the league you see them upwards of 50% of tickets sold. I haven't seen a full stadium in a regular league game for more than 15 years. Football has been socially dying slowly here for many years. Nowadays most people don't care much about football. The NFL, MLB, F1, and MMA, along with the truly traditional national sport, boxing, are growing in popularity and probably overpassing football soon.
5:56 I'm a lifelong Cruz Azul fan. It's "cementeros", not "cementos". It's managed not by a single company, but by a conglomerate of four factories: two owned by worker cooperatives and two owned by anonymous private stock owners. None of them is based in Mexico City, only the football club is.
    The rest is pretty accurate.

Mexico doesnt produce enough talent. They have less than 10 players in the top 5 leagues in the world. An embarrassing nu.ber when you take into consideration the leagues alleged popularity. In comparison, argentina has at least over 75 players between the premier league, la liga, bundesliga, serie a, and league 1.
But the fans are catching up, this season they stopped going to the games and clubs are struggling right bow due to poor attendance.

Idk Mexican best moment we’re between 1990 -2016 Mexico national team has always had majority Home grown player still they put a good fight 1993,2001 Copa America 1999 confederation cup winner 2012 Olympic champion also 1994-2018 round of 16 . back then clubs only had 3 foreigners per club and they were good players now there like 15 per team and there a lot of rejects that come to Mexico knowing there career is over either in Europe or South America. The problem with Mexican football is there’s no talent being produced because there’s to many bad foreign players, and if there was a good home grown player clubs like Tigre’s,Monterrey,Cruz azul,America would but them to stay in liga mx instead of Europe How does that help the national team well it doesn’t Country’s like USA,Morocco,Japan,Colombia,South Korea realized that to compete against elite you need to export Mexico doesn’t do that unfortunately
Mexico now lives of the past their no future right now

Corruption has been way too obvious and we as fans got tired of then thinking that we are stupid…. Good players that are poor don’t hace a chance cause they can’t pay the corrupt 1st division teams the fees to play and become professional players, and Televisa which is one of the biggest TV producers, controls the national team, hence is not about the best players, it’s about who brings more ratings $$. I sure don’t miss all that garbage. 😢

A sad combination of terrible management and FMF catering everything for the domestic league that is barley top ten in the world max. Teams asking for insane amount for transfers to Europe but domestic teams can offer that money keeping our talent in a stagnant position and not improving but still being called up lowering the level of the national team. Domestic media is also to blame with their constant criticism of players in Europe but glazing the players in Liga MX that are playing at a "High Level" and wanting them to starts. Having Televisa as owners of the Club America who always get their "Star" Players on the national team. Promotion and relegation is killing the competition and lowering the level of play. Lastly our call ups for players who don't deserve to landscape the ground for the national team keep being used for some reason Cough "Charlie" Cough. They kill any chance of being able to use players who could actually assist us with giving the team a spark.
