NOTE: I missed the second bearing under the tension knob in this video. It’s under the white spacer washer that I mention at 12:51 that’s my bad. ☺️ You can remove that second bearing by pushing it out from the other side once you take off the side plate, or you can just simply just oil it from the inside of the side plate if you don’t feel like popping it out. 🤙🏽 Thanks for watching!
Just finished completely stripping down, cleaning/oiling/greasing, and reassembling my Curado K with the help of this video. I've been intimidated into ignoring it for close to 5 years and I'm honestly impressed it's in the decent condition that it is despite my neglect. I watched your video all the way through prior to starting to make sure I had what I needed and get aquainted with the guts before dissecting. I really appreciate your methodical and practical approach to the process, it gave me the confidence I needed to jump in. Every single bearing had grease in it, the factory went nuts, but 20 or 30 q tips and a quarter roll of paper towels and I had everything cleaned off, then re applied oil and grease where you suggested. Re-assembly went way easier than I expected and I was absolutely blown away at how smooth the reel was afterwards. I made a couple of test pitches at some targets in my yard and it was right on the money. This thing is better than it was brand new! You gained yourself a new subscriber.
Awesome man! Thanks for letting me know! 👊🏽😊 Stoked the video helped you out and I’m glad you can feel the difference in the reel! 😎🤙🏽 I hope it gives you the confidence to dig into all of your reels in the future, it’s not so hard once you get used to doing it. Just gotta take it slow. Kinda fun and relaxing too! Thanks again for the nice comment and thanks for watching we really appreciate the support. Hope you enjoy the channel. 👊🏽☺️🤙🏽
I have a curado 200hg dc and pretty much the same as this. Great vid step by step very informative. Used this vid to service mine. I also have a new 150 tranx and the internals are very similar
@WhereWeWild just like you breaking down and cleaning reels is very relaxing and I enjoy watching vids of it. Guess I am a lil psycho lol. Where did you get that mat if you don't mind me asking ?
I have this same reel. I bought it about 6 months ago. It was working really well. Then I took several months off from fishing because it was just too hot. I back out last week and the drag is completely gone. I’ve taken apart the reel with the help of your video. The drag washers look brand new. No wear at all. But it will not tighten up. I think at its tightest it’s only about 2lbs of drag. Do you have any suggestions on how to tighten it back up? Thanks, Andy
Hmmmm. 🤔 Well I guess I would take it all apart again and double check every last little thing is in the right place. Check all the washers under the drag star, those spring washers which sit opposite each other like () or )(, make sure the key washer which is the big round metal washer that sits in the top of the main gear is facing down the right way and pressing on the main drag washer correctly, second drag washer is on the ratchet under the main gear, make sure the drag washers aren’t over greased. If the washers are still looking good odds are something just isn’t in the correct place or is not sat in the correct way. Especially if you had taken it apart at all before you noticed the problem. It’s extremely easy to just accidentally not have something in the right place. Definitely use the schematic for reference it’s linked in the video description… just go down the list, process of elimination style and hopefully you’ll spot what’s wrong. 😊🤙🏽
@@WhereWeWild Thank you Ritchie. I never tool it apart before this issue started. How pronounced is the bend in the washers. Mine look pretty flat. Thanks again, Andy
@@andrewpolk4080 Ok good to know! Hmm man that’s super weird for it to just not work like that so random! I show the washers in the video I think they both just have a slight curve to them. They really just help add a little spring tension to the drag star. If everything is in the right place and the drag star is cranked all the way forward and it’s still not working you might just have to try new drag washers even though they look ok. Good luck! Keep me posted that’s just so so odd! 🤷🏻♂️
What’s up dude hmmm 🤔 Maybe make sure to clean any grease out of the bearings and add some oil instead? Also maybe this vid will help you dial it in to cast further? 🤙🏽 th-cam.com/video/TBKxktNrQ8o/w-d-xo.htmlsi=nHQeoIOnsUhycWOu
Ahhh man that sucks I hate when they discontinue parts. 🤦🏻♂️ I would check eBay for sure, any other part sites, but I would think there are definitely drive shafts from other shimano reels that will work, especially on a Curado. I’m just not sure which ones. Maybe also try to contact shimano and see if they can tell you which ones might be able to replace it and then see if any of those are available to get.
I just recently bought Curado Dc 151 and I notice the retriever has small play. Everything work as it should but I was wondering is this normal? To have slight play
Like the star drag and handle has slight play? If so you can always check to make sure the spring tension washers under the drag star are sitting back to back like “)(“ It’s possible the factory put them on in the same direction “))” which would allow it to have more play. I don’t have one of those reels but some of them do have more play than others also.
I have the same reel. Is the drag star supposed to hit the handle when you tighten the drag? Been having this problem when I tighten or loosen the drag.
You mean like the ends of the star are hitting the handle preventing you from turning it? That definitely shouldn’t happen man. It sits super close to it for sure, but the arms of the star shouldn’t hit it. Might want to make sure the drag star and handle are on correctly, and that nothing is bent. Also make sure all the washers are on correctly.
@@Lasurge1982 No prob man yeah just check all that out. Handle. Star. Spring. The washers. Just try to make sure they’re all exactly how I showed it going together hope you get it straightened out. 👊🏽😊
Anti reverse. The one way roller bearing could be shot. Does the reel button work? Like when you push it down to cast and crank does the button click back into position and engage?
