@@smotheredchrome Btw, if you haven't purchased the lighted switch for the S2+ already, pick the blue one - IIRC, the orange one consumes 3 more current and is a lot brighter, the blue one is better overall from what I've heard.
Just got my first S2+ in the MAO finish with SST40 65K for max brightness, put in the blue LED switch, it’s beautiful. Some more on order as well. The 18350 tubes are only $2.50 in 8 different colors! Mix or match the colors for a different look. As usual, thanks for your good work.
I've got their M21A as a medium-range thrower and i'm yet again impressed by what Convoy offers at such low prices. I think my next pocket flashlight will be another Convoy. Cheers.
I have this version with CSLNM1 and I use it for throw when I am out walking. Fits well in the pocket, and is handy. I also have an S2+ with Nichia 219c with 5700K and I interchange the head of the light and use with the Nichia around for close range and CRI use. The Nichia has the 12 groups, and the Osram has four mode. I like the short version for pocket use, very good light overall. The best part is if you have the 18650 tube and the 18350 tube they are all interchangeable and convenient. Good video, thanks for the review.
@@smotheredchrome I'm not sure, however if we are talking in meters, I would guess around 200 meters at the most would be my best guess. I have a C8 with CSLNM1, and the S2+ is of course not even in the same league with the C8. From what I understand the C8 is over 600 meters, so there is quite a difference. For pocket use I really like the S2+ CSLNM1 for most practical uses. I don't believe the lumens will be anywhere near what the SFT 40 has. Thanks for your comment, great videos.
When using the Convoy flashlight as an EDC or bicycle flashlight I prefer to use group 4 because 3 levels of brightness in my opinion are more practical than 5 levels and I also turn off the memory mode which makes it easier for me to set it to the level/mode I want. With memory mode on, I often get confused but with memory mode off I just have to memorize how many times I have to press the button to get to a certain mode for example to go to 100% I only need to turn on the flashlight then double half press to 100% or 4 half press to go to bike flasher. As for self defense I set the flashlight to group 11 (100%, 20%, Strobe) and also with memory mode off so the flashlight will always go straight to 100% every time I turn on the flashlight. Oh one more thing you can also double press the switch rather than half press to go to the next mode.
Exactly this. Group 4 is perfect with memory off. I treat mine as any other light. I just think click=On, 2 clicks from On=Turbo(like many other lights do), 1 click from On=medium. 5 clicks from on to battery check etc. For fast turbo use i click it on while i am pulling it out of the pocket then 2 quick halfpresses gets me to turbo before i even pointed the light at anything. Group 4 with no memory rocks
Hi, thanks, nice video. Of the S2+ (mini) variety I recommend Nichia 519a 2700K, especially if dedomed, the tint is so nice as an indoor nightlight. On the other edge of the Kelvin scale, I really like the Samsung LH351D 5700K emitter with the reflector replaced by a 45 degrees TIR. More than enough brightness for indoor usage on 1 or 10 percent level and a nice tint with no green. For a more natural tint, Nichia 219b 4500K or Nichia 519a 5000K are really nice, too. In most cases, I use mode 8, 0.1-1-10-50, because I don't like to overdrive the emitters that much (219b) and visible brightness doesn't differ much.
Thank you lightweaver I appreciate you 🙏 When I seen the sft40 in the s2 and the remote switch I thought this setup has to be looked at, and I believe it will look amazing mounted on some handle bars or weapons mount.
If you don't plan to use a remote switch then the Convoy S21B KW CULPM1 with Wurkkos 20350 short tube and Sofirn SP35 pocket clip will be better than the S2+ W1 with short tube. The CULPM1 on my S21B has a better throw than the SFT40 on my S21A (both flashlights use the same reflector), the CULPM1 is also warmer than the SFT40 and higher lumens than the CSLNM1 so it has better throw and more useful spill. The S21B is only 88mm long with a Wurkkos 20350 short tube and the Sofirn SP35 pocket clip is also much better than the pocket clip provided by the Convoy.
I own the s2+ w1 and though it is amazing it isn't exactly so amazing as many people would think... Why?? Because i already own 3 Convoys with the w1(S2+ w1, M2 w1 and the S2+ green w1) and each one of them arrived with the reflector not focused properly. This is due to the white plastic gasket that sits on top of the Led being a tad too thin. In order to make it right you need to make a very thin under 0.5mm shim or another circular gasket and place that around the led on the pcb board or stick it under the gasket itself. Then it's hit and miss to align the led into the gasket perfectly while screwing in the whole driver-reflector-O-ring+Glass into the head. A few mm of screwing it in too much and it's misaligned again, a few mm not screwing it in all the way might make it perfect, or less might misalign it again. To know that you've aligned the reflector perfectly you will see the hotspot as a perfect filled with light circle with 4 not so distinct but equally and symmetrically sized pedals around it as the corona. You can only see that on a white wall in lower brightness. It's easy to also check if your reflector is misaligned when pointing on a white wall you will see major artifacts into the hotspot and into the corona. Then there is also if you see a good hotspot but the corona is not symmetrically circular around the hotspot that means that though the distance of the reflector from the led is ok, one side is tilted, either the led is not perfectly fitted horizontal to the pcb board or either the reflector isn't perfectly horizontal to a straight led. This could also be because of the Oring not sitting right but most of the times it's the led not fitted properly onto the board itself. To fix this is tricky but doable. You need to make your shim/gasket under the white plastic gasket to have a thicker side and place that opposite of the lowest sitting side of the led on the pcb board. Now... Why bother?? Because when you'll make it right this S2+ w1 with an 18650tube will hit over 550m of range!!! I assume that's what we all want when we order a thrower anyway. In my case I've managed after many tries and errors to perfectly align my two S2+ but i am just slightly off on my m2 by a little sideways corona. The result on my M2 after the mod was great to my eyes cause before the mod it couldn't beat my Kr1 w2 in throw and now it does! My two S2+ were hitting just 330m of throw before the shim/gasket mod and now they're over 550m! Important! If you manage to align the beam perfectly do not ever try again to disassemble the head cause you will lose your alignment and you will have to start again.
@@zampination I fixed the messy beam problem on my S21B CULPM1 by removing the screws on the MCPCB and prying it out of the slightly dry thermal paste without removing the solder and hen put it back normally without the screws or anything else.

Ohh bummer.... I see that your inflatable pool has left a mark on your grass next to your staircase. That patch of grass is dead for the time being... Bummer
