Can we not use the Holocaust as a joke? Gross. Definitely not subscribing, which is a shame, cause it seems like you know what you're doing. Millions of people died, it wasn't a thirty second fish bowl for TikTok views.
Both bad...sharp stones exist in nature...as long it s not the only type of surfaces i dont see any problem in sharp rocks...i only do natural fish tanks or terrariums...but as ugly the soonge bob tank might be ,it s better then the jar one...

To be honest that’s the best fake plant aquarium I’ve ever seen, the looks are quite nice for the theme

I can agree

I wanna do a long tank now that's got plastic pineapples and clown vomit gravel at one end and transitions to full natural planted tank at the other. Sort of a visual representation of my evolution in the hobby.
That would be a really cool tank I think you should do it
@@ronnie268 As soon as I can convince my guy that yes, I really do need another aquarium
Clown vomit. Funny
Love the idea I hope you pull it off
that's what i was planning for my shrimp tank, should i actually get one any time soon! not bc of an evolution, i have never owned an aquarium. but because my dunbass can not decide on an aesthetic and my bedroom is pretty much split in half between nintendo merch, plushies and LEDs and live plants, fairy lights, wooden and clay art and grammy's embroidery and i want that tank in the center of that room lmao
Personally I don't think artificial decorations are always a telltale sign people can't take care of animals, it's a telltale sign people can't take care of plants. And as somebody who owns both pets and house plants I can say that those things can get tricky, also if you have had pests in any of your planter tanks, specifically terrariums. Then there is a period of time where you have to use fake plants while you are treating the live ones or replacing them
This!
I'm shocked by the amount of people who fail to realize that animal people and plant people aren't always the same people.
@@dinodare1605 exactly! I happen to be both but that's not the case for everyone! Also even if somebody does have houseplants that doesn't mean they know how to take care of aquatic plants. I have some very unique and tricky house plants and have grown them successfully but I can't keep a single fish tank plant alive for any length of time, I'm always buying new ones just to satisfy the Internet and I hate it it's a big waste of money and I honestly feel bad for the plants I keep killing just to satisfy annoying people
My Mama can do house plans all day long but she can't, not even to save her life keep water plants and I can keep water plants almost like no buddy's business, but I can't do house plants I can barely keep them a week sometimes I keep them to dry or to wet and I just can't find that happy medium.
@@hurricanevolf7165 I swear you can either do one or the other, I have met very very few people who can keep both
I own goldfish, and they NEVER allowed me to decorate the tank with real plants since all they ever think of is eating 24/7, so the only option for me is to use fake ones, and in the end, they liked them since they enjoy hiding inside of them or picking out the algae.
The only option I have are pothos which they struggle to eat. But it would be nice if anyone can recommend me "goldfish-proof" plants
Same
I'm told anubias is goldfish proof?
@@mittenistait’s the mature, thicker leaves they have trouble with. It’s still possible to tear them though, and they’ll eat new growth so it’s still difficult with the little trash compactors.
Idk what you mean
I buy plants for my goldfish al the time.
Edible ones. Sure they eat them, and then i buy new ones
I always knew in my heart goldfish were the labradors of the fish world, thanks for confirming that for me
Artificial decoration isn't always bad, for example pvc pipe or pots can give fish shelter and look somewhat unique
Dont pvc pipes leach small amounts of toxic chemicals into water? Especially the newer ones? Maybe not enough to cause immediate harm but i still wouldnt do it
@@FirstnameLastname-jd4uq PVC pipe is one of the most common forms of piping for homes. So most likely all your tap water has plastics. Micro plastics have to be in high concentration to do any harm. If they truely were that dangerous we wouldnt be able to use sponge filters, or anything plastic that goes in your aquarium.
@@eliguyah im not talking about microplastics. Im talking about things that actually dissolve in the water
@@FirstnameLastname-jd4uqI mean the alternative is lead my guy
Imagine being accused of being a bad fish owner just because you have a SpongeBob deco in your tank I’m crying 😭
If you don't understand why that could potentially be bad then maybe you are a bad fish owner? Or maybe just an uninformed one.
@@carlinkag2525 I don’t even own a fish man, I just think it’s off that having one pineapple house in your tank can get you a bad rep. Like what if you have everything else good? Is it excusable then?
@@EmileBone So it's not the pineapple house specifically, it's the fact that all the decor in that tank is fake. Because, as a hobbyist you are trying to recreate semi-natural conditions for whatever animal is in your vivarium. Real plants enhance water quality, prevent algae growth by using nutrients produced by fish waste and uneaten food. They also produce oxygen and help stabilize pH. They make your life a whole lot easier and an artificial tank loses all those benefits for what really amounts to no good reason since plants are kinda cheap and easy to maintain.
Fake plants with sharp bits also have a reputation of tearing the fins of fish with more delicate fins like beta fish or fancy goldfish. And then as for the Sponge Bob theme... It just comes across as the person not being a hobbyist so much as a SpongeBob fan and that leads to questions about the quality of care the fish are receiving.
Like, how are they managing nitrate levels with all that unhelpful plastic in there? It's baffling honestly. The one saving grace is that there seems to be few fish in there which means the bioload is small, but I can't tell if that's an intentional choice or not. So it's just a really fucking weird tank lol. Sorry for rambling, hope that was helpful
@@carlinkag2525 ohhh I see, so basically it’s the fact it’s unnatural and fish need a more earthy habitat to thrive in? And yeah that tank in the video was kind of concerning lol I’m not a big fan of color gravel and plants myself, if I was a fish I’d rather jump out of the tank than look at all that.
@@EmileBone Yeah! You got it! And same, the artificial look isn't for me.
I prefer a natural river look, though my own skills aren't quite on that level yet lol.
There’s nothing wrong with putting some SpongeBob themed things in there, especially with all of the necessary husbandry items already being there. It gives the fish a place to hide.
I agree. The tank is is super clean and well maintained
Yeah more like sharp objects for fish to get body cuts from
@@JAY-jm1xjoh yeah I forgot about all the completely smooth surfaces in nature
Chris's objection to them is purely a subjective, aesthetic preference.
@@JAY-jm1xjah yes. All rocks in nature are smooth as glass
Im just sitting here like "one of these is a fish tank and the other is a drinking glass"
its hard with goldfish to have live plants because they will eat them. all i have in the tank rn is wood and rocks
Get Java fern and Anubis gold fish don’t mess with them , good luck
@@voctorfloud9341 thankyou!
i think i have some Anubis in my sisters betta tank.
yeah I had a grass type of thing in my tank and the goldfish ripped all of them out of the substrate and ate the roots 🙁 the only thing that lives is the lucky bamboo because it's a thick stem and too heavy for the fish to move.
Fast growing floater plants like anachris and water sprite, paired with a hella lot of duckweed.
Duckweed will grow insanely quickly once established, enough that goldfish probably won’t leave a mark.
My nice ass planted 55 gallon has Squidward's house and the Krusty Krab hiding in the forest as an extra hiding space. Every one of my tanks has a sponge bob piece somewhere in it, even the reef.
I just wanna make my own sponge bob tank and spam chris's inbox with videos with good clean fish tank.
Let's all start well maintained artificial tanks for the fish tank reviews
It's one of the best spongebob tanks i've ever seen. They didn't even use fruity pebble gravel XD
Ah, yes, because we all know, taking care of animals and taking care of plants, same exact skillset.
It fundamentally is, though.
You have to learn what the organism needs to thrive and you provide that.
They need sustenance, they need light, they need space, they need appropriate water parameters, need to be protected from predation, cared for when injured. All this is true for both plants and animals.
As a person who has done live planted tanks. I learned I had enough time for waterchanges not gardening.
Hey, I have that declaration of my fish tank. My fish is a happy SpongeBob SquarePants.
I think artificial decorations are perfectly fine. Plastic plants I’ve learned to not like as much, but man-made decorations can often complement a planted setup well.
My planted tank has a Squidward house and a plastic log in addition to real driftwood and plants, it’s all about how you do it and what species you’re housing
My little beta had a squidward house and he loved sleeping in it. Hed pop his head out of the window when I got up in the morning. He did have several live plants, a leaf hammock, I definitely think you can mix and match fake and live aquarium setups, just depends on personal preference imo and if you are educated in looking after your fish
I use artificial plants but they're silk or really soft/thin plastic. I do have duckweed though. I have all the needed equipment. Filter, heater, aeration, lots of hiding spaces. Its a 10 gallon fraternity guppy/endler tank. Theres enough of them to equal out the aggression between all of them. Their fins are not all torn up or anything. They're all very lively and they actually don't hide very often. Not all artificial decor tanks are bad! ❤
I was about to cry when I saw that small vase-looking “fish tank”
With my luck with water plants, I'm stuck with silk plants. The thing though is that i have over 20 years of fish keeping experience so my tanks are always well maintained even if the only live plant is a marimo lol
Artificial plants and themed decorations arent a tell-tale sign of bad fish/tank owners, but it definitely is more common for bad fish owners to have brightly colored, vibrant fake plants and decor to match. It can also just be that the person doesn't want to or struggles with taking care of real plants, or they just really like the idea of decorating the tank a certain way. :)
I went to plastic plants as I spent a fortune on live plants that were EATEN!!!😢
I felt a little insulted because I had the same Spongebob decorations 💀 But all of the fake plants I had in there were the silk ones because I had a betta and was really concerned about his fins getting caught on any other plants (I also suck at live plants and probably would've killed them all) my betta loves his Krusty krab though so personally a win in my book
It's tough to take care of a planted tank. Period not everyone is good at it.
Honestly I prefer the spongebob set up too. Kids absolutely love that and it's clear despite being artificial, the person put quite a bit of effort into that theme, where's I've seen planted tanks that just look like disgusting looking swamps. It depends on the person keeping the fish.
Kids might love the colorful artificial tanks, but many fish love the disgusting swamps lol
ya know even if i have artificial decor cause i’m too lazy to take care of real plants i still gave my goldfish a amazing setup in my eyes, they got a 100 gallons of water and a fx 6 filter which i use on both my tanks and honestly they seem happy they’re growing giant and it’s awesome to see them go from feeder fish to real pets i love my animals and will always take awesome care for them. love your vids and keep them up man!!!
Modt of the time I use fake decor, since planted tanks are a little out of my budget. But when I get the chance I always try to replace them with live plants
Each plant you buy is about the same price as a piece of plastic hardscape. Just replace the plastic hardscape with locally sourced and properly treated driftwood and stones. Boom; cheaper, better look.
@@trippyhippy2110 Most of the deco I have is used or it's something I've had for a long time. The plants aren't the only expensive things. Keeping the plants alive with stuff like root tabs, liquid fertilizer, substrate, ect can be even more expensive then the plants themselves
@@brickosaurus2276 If you just have enough stock in your tank, more often then not you'll buy nutrients once a year, if that. It's just about making sure there's enough waste being created so that the plants keep gaining nutrients and keep turning nitrites into nitrates.
@@trippyhippy2110not everyone happy with just rock and piece of woods like you and me, many like their tank with colours but their thumbs not green enough to keep the plants alive for long. Nothing wrong with fake decors.
@@kurenainatsume5802I agree, I do want more plants in my tank but my local petstores usually lack fertilizer and the only plants I've been able to adapt are amazon swords. Nothing wrong with some oow effort plastic models that never die nor wilt.
My fish eat any plant I put in it. If I feed them more to prevent them from eating the plants they will get fat. I have artificial plants to get the hiding places some of my fish need that are very rounded/not sharp.
The second one doesn’t have room for a pump or filter! And with the number of fish In that tank, ammonia is going to skyrocket and the ph of the water will go insane. Not to mention the huge amount of fish crowding that tank there’s barely any room. Not to mention that it’s circular and will warp the fishes vision
Honestly, I think putting so much fish in that tiny, not regulated tank should be considered animal abuse because of terrible conditions.
Bro, your balance of accountability and acknowledgment is ridiculous ❤
My betta watching me from her psychedelic 70's living room themed tank
Me: what? It looks cool-
My cousin had a custom 250 sunken ship tank for a Arowana, he liked to say that the fish sank it, it had some live plants and soft substrate
That’s exactly what my tank looks like, I originally had live plants, but they just kept dying so I gave up
I have fake plants in my aquarium because my crawfish doesn’t really care about the plants. I mainly have a bunch of rocks for him to hide. I think he’s happy
It looks perfect for a single stag horn snail I suppose
I'm brand new to this hobby. I don't exactly know what I'm doing when it comes to the live plants so that's why I use artificial plants
There’s a serious snobbery in the fish keeping realm about using fake decor. To some extent I get why but it’s hard to not feel like you’re a bad fish keeper if you use anything fake. I have heavily planted tanks cause me and the fish both like them but my bristlenose gets grumpy without his little barrel to sit in and my synodontis totally took over the shipwreck I put in for them temporarily and they absolutely love it.
That SpongeBob tank would be really cute if you just changed all those fake plants to real living plants
I'd replace the fake plants with real ones and happily add more to the SpongeBob tank. I'm literally showing my kids SpongeBob now
lots of fish in one tank is really bad tho
@@BryleMilan The tank was big enough for that many in the spongebob, though?

Most artifical decorations for fish tanks actually has a paint on it that is toxic for fish, it comes off after being in water for awhile. It might not be visible in the waters coloring but it can harm the fish, before I knew this my fish died because I had artificial decorations
The smaller one is worse fr, atleast in thr bigger one thry will survive 1 day
Why would they survive one day in the larger tank
Did you not watch the video
@@JosephsJungle8 No they're saying they basically would be lucky to survive even 1 day in the other tank with real plants..
They're bound to survive more than a day in the artificial tank😅
@@lilskipper4683 yes
@@lilskipper4683no, they literally said "in the bigger one they will survive one day" it can't really be taken any other way than what's written
My fish has destroyed my every attempt at adding natural plants that root into the substrate (I have live plants on the surface though) but she gets anxious if there's NO plants (even though she's huge she still gets scared when I move) so I just try to get soft fabric fake plants to minimize the risk.
Wasn’t there like glofish in the one with real plants? I think that he didn’t like those either
The round glass looks like something you‘d serve sangria in, that’s just not a fish tank lmao
I always say do 50-50. Keep the plants live and natural, but don't be afraid to add some artifical decorate elements.
What’s really bad about that other tank is that the fact it has a nutritious substrate and carpeting plants means this guy *knows* his stuff and yet chooses to show a complete disregard for the lives of animals, compared to other people who at *least* have the excuse of not any knowing better
those poor fish in that tiny little tank :( you can see that they're upset and stressed about being in such a small tank with so many other fish
That's not even a tank, that's a beer glass 😂
I too hate fake plants and decor but I will say this is definitely the better looking one I’ve seen so far, at least some thought was put into the layout although it’s not my taste
Fft I plan on having a 20-gallon with a female betta some female mystery snails. I plan on having a used sponge filter (to kick start cycling.) a black sand substrate with live plants. I like what you did in your beta fish tank setup vid so I will mirror that to some degree does this sound good? P.s. how can I get my tank when I set it up Edit : with heater I don’t want them to die
female mystery snail? pretty sure snails are hermaphrodites
If the ‘natural’ tank with the glowfish just had a singular bladder snail then it would be good 😅
Something like the SpongeBob tank is good for a child’s bedroom, but that tiny one is horrifying.
Good call!
Yes although we hate fake plants and toys in tanks. The more space the better for the fish
I hate human toys in tanks, but I'm fine with toys that the fish enjoy and get enrichment from. Betta fish for example usually are much happier with a ping pong ball or moss ball in the tank for then to roll around
There's no room for the fish in the round one, no filter, no heater, and the circular shape is harmful
"I hate people who aren't willing to take care of real plants. They are fat and I'm not because I own some."
😂 I know plenty of fat people that have beautiful house plants , Judge much 😂 😡
The only tank I have artificial decoration in is my 5 US Gallon quarantine tank, and it’s a log for a hiding space and a silk fern with a weighted bottom. I use the tank for my betta for when they’re sick or I get a new one. I just got a rescue and he’s hanging out in it while I treat his fin rot and get some weight on him
My little brother wanted a spongebob themed aquarium for his betta. Originally he picked out a 1 gallon with tons of fake plants, ugly blue and orange gravel and the obligatory spongebob decorations. When he brought it home i was luckily able to talk him out of it. We kept the spongebob decor but got a nice 5 gallon with all the right tools and substrate. I did a beautiful live plant aquascape but made the focal point spongebob and squidwards houses. You can definitely make a fun kids aquarium while still keeping it naturalistic for the fish (and aesthetics)
That 2nd “tank” is more of a drinking glass then a fish tank
The truth is that some ceramic ornaments are perfectly safe while others leach fish toxic heavy metals as the glaze dissolves. Any object produced to be 'dinnerware safe' will be suited as an aquarium decoration.
Curved glass should never house ANY fish!! No matter how big. Curved glass affects their eyes and brains, it’s like looking thru a magnifying glass every day of your life. It’s one of the most inhumane things you can do for a fish.
I bought an axolotl and asked about the plants, the lady at the store advised not to get a living plant, as it will spread out and be too much. It depends on the aquarium size and the fishes inside.
I only have a fake decorative tank because in my area no one sells live plants
The only piece of artificial decor in my 20gal planted betta tank was a small mushroom Smurf’s house. It was gifted to me by my grandmother when she heard I was preparing a planted tank and I just couldn’t say no. Luckily, there was no sharp edges for my betta to cut his fins on and it fit in to the plants well. looked like it was in a little forest under the driftwood (plus it was my bettas favorite spot to hang out) ;>
It's not even a tank, it's vase
If done correctly, Artificial decor can be benefitial for the animals, as it can be a hiding spot or a place to hide from the light if needed.
But small space can never be made good.
I REALLY LOVE how you DO NOT hold back on what you think or feel about your passion. I wish other Y.T. creators, would do the same! Excellent video! ❤
I have artificial plants, they do look good and my tank is maintained and not overstocked either
As someone who wants fish, but doesn’t want them dead in two hours (I have cats) I’m planning on getting fake fish and decorate a tank and dye the water. Like I said, fake fish, fake plants (I can’t keep plants alive),fake decor, and dyed water.
Only thing I’d stock for that lil jar is some microorganisms or smth. Daphnia, scuds, or maybe a few fairy shrimp of a smaller species. (And don’t judge me, I think scuds are pretty cute 😭)
I was gonna say, that second one doesnt even look like a tank. Bro, thats just a big cup. 😂
Please don't dump goldfish in something so small.. know your fish.. know your litres or gallons.. each fish will need a certain litre or gallon of space for different fish.. happy fish keeping ❤
As a kid we had a lot of fish. My mom had a ton of fish before we were born, she even had mini sharks! But growing up we only had small bowls for one fish, with the fake plants and SpongeBob decor. Which if you didn't place the SpongeBob house correctly the fish sometimes would get stuck under the houses and get hurt.
It depends on what tank setup you go with. When i owned a fish i used a filler and aerator with bubbler so i used fake plants
I have quite a big tank, and 1 plastic thing. But i also have rocks, seashells and live plants.
The way they just dumped the fish in too... You're supposed to get them acclimated to the water first...
Bri, that wasn't a tank, that was a vase!
I got my fish at a fair, he loves his pineapple spongebob house. Its hilarious when hes inside peeping out the windows at me.
They just tossed those poor tiny fish into that teeny tiny tank like they were nothing 😢
The smaller one is worse lol. The fish NEED room, especially with that many! That’s terrible, keeping them in such a small space, fish aren’t decorations, they’re live animals.
To each their own. As long as the fish is healthy and the water is clean thats what matters. Im in the process of making a brothel and hotels in my aquariums
that carpet plant is almost as fake as those artificial decors 💀
I’m helping to set up a tank for my young niblings (due to allergies they can’t have any mammals or birds). Some ridiculous fake decor will help to keep their interest high but it will also have live plants for a better habitat…baby steps… I’m personally a fan of heavily planted tanks that are more of an underwater garden than a fish tank
Thank you for explaining exactly WHY you hate artificial decor, I was unsure of getting a few colorful rocks to add to my planted paludarium but I knew it couldn't be THAT bad, plus I never heard of anything saying artificial decor was actually harmful to fish. My sister showed me a TikTok of this handle "naturaldecor" and it looked EXACTLY like that tiny one but bigger with A TON OF THOSE SAME GLOFISH TETRAS. I showed obvious concern/disgust and said "It's WAY overcrowded!" and she said "it looks like a big tank though..." 💀 I would've agreed with that thought process a year ago but I've been researching fishkeeping for many months now to know that's DISGUSTING, which I'm so proud to be knowledgeable in now, thank you Chris
The one "tank" just straight up looks like a cup or vase I really hope they weren't actually kept in that
Plants are easy, heres how I do it. I buy some jelly jars that arent likely to tip over maybe 3 inch diameter. Fill with aquatic soil up to 1/2 inch from the top then (this is the most important step) fill it with water and let it set overnight. In the morning stick your figer down the center and then stick the plant in then pack it in. Then on top I like to put some glass discs I get from the Pet store and that will keep the dirt in and fish out. Then place it in the tank, this method will keep the dirt coming out to a minimum.
Honestly, replace the fake plants with real ones and keep the sponge bob houses
So judging by approximate scale, I’m pretty sure I’ve had beers bigger than that small little “tank” …
That is no place to keep anything…
Small one is worse but SpongeBob one could significantly improve
Hate to say artificial… but at least they have space and it doesss look well taken care of. That tiny planted (can it even be called that?) looks like those fish wont be lasting long. :/
That tiny vase is too small for even one fish, I'm mad
I’ve never seen a SpongeBob fish tank actually include Patrick’s house- already adds a bonus point in my opinion! 😅
Sodapets pointed out that, as long as the decor isn't toxic, it doesn't actually hurt the fish. But, I would rather it be natural. And that cup is definitely not better. The tank is definitely the better one.
Nothing wrong with fake decor so long as it doesnt have any sharp parts c: I definitely would get silk plants over plastic and as for decor just try to find some without sharp edges and sand it down to be extra safe. Ive even heard of some people using panthose and running it across/through decor as to determine if it would catch on your fish's fins !!
Tank 1. Someone spent a bunch of time making, tank 2 someone stole my wine glass and threw some rocks an plants in it.
To be honest, there isn't enough "man made objects in natural setting" aquariums. Like a collection of decaying statues in an overgrown forrest or a sleeping water god encased in stone waiting to emerge from their restful slumber. It's either completely fake or completely real.
I dont mind the artificial decorations honestly. So long as those decorations are fit for purpose and safe and the fishies have everything they need - if people want to build a my little pony waterscape, go ham.
Your channel gotten me make my own fish tank now only if I knew how to show it to ya
Bro went from cooking to aquarium care 💀💀💀💀
One main reason that was missed as to why the spongebob themed tank is bad is not due to the decorations but whats ON the decoration. The spongebob houses is known to be coatwd with toxic coloring that releases into the water killing fish. And many people do not know about this sadly
