It’s not even a small breed of guppy either, they choose the “elephant ear” which gets like 2.5 inches (6 cm). People need to do more research before they post things online. If it was a male it might be able to swim between the plants but wow…

I have 28 pygmy corys in my 30 gallon micro tank. I cannot ever get over how cute they are swimming thru the bubbles, schooling around, and napping on all of my plants/scapes.
My mom used to have a betta fish in a cup like 10 years ago and it was hard cause she was really proud of it but i taught her how to make a planted 10 gallon tank and she still has that tank! I say tanks are investments..
This person slapping a betta into a vase, and I'm over here worried about my shrimp not having enough room in my 10g (shrimp and pygmy cory only tank) * ON, Canada!
Thank you so much for these videos! I hate to say it, but I'm one of those people who works at one of "those pet stores" And I wasn't ever really trained on what fish need and how to give them a good life. Since watching your videos I've learned so much from you that I'm now able to help new fish keepers create a happy and sustainable environment and show them all the wonderful possibilities they can create in their thank!
A super duper good morning FTR crew! Wishing all a radically positive week! Edit; I am an actual plant mom. Sansevieria may be able to be rooted in the tank, but long term, they don't really like to have wet feet so you'd have trouble keeping it from rotting. It's technically possible, but you'd have to be really careful. Maybe just keep them really high up in the tank so the roots are just barely in the water and as the water level drops they start to dry out. But how the person has them where the actual crown of the plant, the base of the leaves are in the water is going to cause rot for sure. Fun fact; those heavenly bamboo plants people often use in aquaria are also Dracaena! QotW; I'm Southern California bred, grew up in northern California and now live my dotage back in southern California.
I am betting you can do a coco coir and pumice (or lava rock, LECA, perlite...) pot with about .5-1 cm (1/4-1/2") in the water. Giving a good mix of damp aerated root zone and contact with the water to pull nutrients from. In my experience most plants can be frown hydroponically its just that you are going to kill a bunch before you find out how to do it correctly.
I went to Asia mall in Minneapolis recently and they had a fluval flex that was half filled with substrate and heeeeaaaavy planted. Most impressive Asian restaurant tank I've seen
To think just over a year ago I had no idea you existed. Now I have a healthy ecosystem tank, never miss an episode, and even submitted and got a 5/5. This channel is now more a part of my life than my father ever was lmfao
Hey Chirs hope everyone's doing good thank you so much for the video I broke my right arm and got surgery so I was not able to watch the last FTRs catching up and watching the FTRs gave me the joy I needed Thank you so much for the effort u put into these videos.
Fellow Canadian here. Yes, I recently saw a “houseplants you can grow in an aquarium” video, and snake plants were included! I would have thought exactly what you did! Congratulations on getting married! Enjoy your honeymoon! Petting that goldfish will kill it. They need their slime coats intact! You’re not going crazy, guppies is the right answer!
I just saw a frantic father at PetSmart, reading all the little info cards on the tanks and not finding anything small enough for the tank he was getting his kids. I heard one of the girls say that if he gets too big they can just put him in the toilet.
Re: dracaena in a fish tank: I’ve never tried snake plants that way, but I think it SHOULD work. Other dracaena love it-lucky bamboo is a species of dracaena! With snake plants, it’s no so much that they’re succulent in the same way a cactus is; they’re drought tolerant because of their waxy coating, but they don’t swell to store water so they wouldn’t go mushy the way a true succulent does if it gets too much water. Not sure about long-term viability, but I’m sure they’d be happy in there for a while, anyway.
Ive got 2 snake plants in water and aqua soil as they were unaliving themselves in soil that have grown amazing roots. I'd love to put them in my planted tanks, but my cats would spend the day fishing if the top was open.
I’ve been growing a snake plant aquaponically for a couple years now. 100% can do. Also that Dallas rasbora tank does have a TH-cam channel, that footage is uploaded on there. Can’t remember the name of the channel though so I’ll report back when I find it lol
I live in Florida, about 40 miles north of Tampa. Oh, and I have snake tongue (or we call it mother-in-law) growing in my yard. It's taking over a shady corner. I never heard of it growing hydroponically, and I think it prefers well drained soil. Sometimes I am surprised by a plants ability to grow in the water, though. Maybe it will work!
I kept snake plants in water for a long time and they were thriving! Just changed the water every week or two and sometimes added a little bit of fertiliser. So they would do great in a fish tank! It started when I put them in water to propagate and just forgot to pot them. They looked like they were doing well so I just left them in water glasses lmao
With the snake plants, they can grow from water if the leaves themselves aren't in the water and just the roots it should be fine. I also imagine keeping it standing up is another thing to have to figure out. I always wish I could have plants hanging out of my tank but my weatherloach would find that as an escape hole for sure.
Goliath the goldfish tank "upgrade" is like a person living in a 12 sq feet room for their entire lufe and suddenly get a 18 sq feet room! It's an upgrade... technically.
My Monday is about to end (India) and you definitely made it better. Btw you can grow snake plants in water, they do grow well hydroponically. Just cut a leaf let the cut part dry for a day and plop it into water. It will start sprouting roots soon and will sprout a new shoot from the base of leaf during the growing season.
As someone who owns a ton of plants, I’m not 100% sure about the snake plant in the aquarium because snake plants can go months without water and they usually are the plant that you can neglect. Snake plants being left in water could lead to root rot because they are so used to being in dry soil. It could work but at the same time, it’s not likley.
I’m from Los Angeles and have been to the Dallas Aquarium. The aquariums there are amazing, but there are only a few (strangely.) The rest of it is like a sad zoo prison for giant birds, alligators and other exotic tropical animals. It’s similar to the beta in a cup issue…I was highly disappointed. But the few tanks downstairs….are legit.
They're super big on conservation and have a whole lot of extra space for the animals that you don't get to see that the animals can retreat to when they don't feel like being viewed:)
QOTW I live in the geographic center of north America. A little town in western North Dakota, USA. Great video this week Chris. Many plants can be grown hydroponically. I got these hang on baskets for planting inside a tank.
Qotw - India! FTR- Its super hard to get a healthy fish in the area I live in, as all pet shops put them in little 5 gallon tanks. The worst one that stopped me from buying any more fish was the centerpiece on the front register of the pet shop- a globe like glass bowl the size of my hand and in it- a Betta fish:'/ I'm saving up for a big aquarium and the rest for when i move away, until then, I have stopped fish keeping.
QOTW: Pennsylvania, in the Chesapeake Bay watershed. Lots of local lakes to paddle and the Susqehanna River, as well as the very clear and cold Yellow Breeches Creek to slap a mask and snorkel on and watch the little fishies...
I just had to quarantine one of my Zebra Danios because he was acting weird... alone in a single 20 gallon... Dude was acting like he's in a prison where he can barely even turn... i feel bad for those little guys in that miniature vase with the Betta
Love your videos Chris! Not a fish topic but I rescued a 9 day old kitten from a horribly abusive situation this weekend and am highly sleep deprived. Despite this, your video still wakes me up 😎
Totally possible to propagate snake plants inside a fish tank. I frequently do this in my 3 gallon betta tank (so it’s fairly shallow) betta loves darting around them. When I pull them out for repotting she looks at me like “WTF have you done with my maze?!?!?” Until I’m guilted into adding more. They are cuttings from my mature potted 20+ year old potted snake plant. You would be amazed at how quickly they take root in my little planted wasteland experiment tank!!! Qotw: Lakewood, ColoRADo 💓🥂
A 20+ year old snake plant! Must be gorgeous!! I used to have a little collection of snake plants growing in glasses of water. Waited too long to repot them and they looked happy so they just stayed in the water lol I absolutely believe that they would do well in a fish tank
It is a beautiful mature legacy plant I inherited from my dad before he passed! That snake plant and many others from him (that have been growing right along side me since middle school days!!) started me on my own now very fruitful plant journey 🥲💓
Stay wrapped up in Jesus. Don’t stress about test, it’s really not important. What matters is working to be good Christian and studying the Bible. You do that God will provide you everything you need. Have a good one Joe. -Dawson from Oklahoma
I'm living in The Netherlands along with my Utrecht Cardinals, Westbroek Grazers, Silvertip Surfers, Rummynose Ronins, Amsterdam-Rhine Channel Cory Gang and my two bristlenoses Peppi & Kokki.
I have snake plants in water right now!! And I have a baby one in my 20 gallon long, it’s very small but it’s growing new leaves and it’s roots are pretty long 😊
I have been growing “Snake plants” in passive hydro for many years and they love it. As long as the stems aren’t sitting in the water they won’t melt. Just keep the rhizome and roots in there. Lots more plants than you expect do well in water! I even purchased a dwarf ZZ plant in water and was shocked that it was thriving, considering zz tend to be very sensitive to water. But really plants are adaptable, you just have to take it slowly. Also to answer your question i just moved from Kansas to Canada 🇨🇦
I also built a sort of cory cave recently. A dolmen in a 90 l scaper tank surrounded by trees. I'm going to get pygmy corys for this one. But there's no way to watch them while they're in there though. It's made of pillar rocks and roof slabs covered in moss, anubias petite and one anubias pinto on top. Yeah, I've caved and got myself a fancy pinto!
Illinois..succulents grow easily in the top of the aquarium. I have some sedum in a little soap dish with rocks in mine. The nice thing about sedum is you don’t really need soil as a substrate. I’ve worked at a tree shrub and perennials nursery for the last 15 years. I did idiotically use black cherry branches to make fake trees. Don’t worry, I pulled them out.
I actually have a sansevieria growing in my Oscar tanks filter right now. It's a HOB filter with filter floss so the plants can root in it without getting their feet too wet and it's doing really well! That's how you propagate them. QOTW: I am in the US, in Southern AZ. Desert peeps represent 😅
I put almost all my plants in semi Hydro aka leca/ Pon including ZZ plants and string of hearts. The only stuff that's not in a reservoir are most succulents because they just melt (still in leca though, just no reservoir) Anything else that you can propagate in water can usually be grown in water permanently. Most plants will grow in basically any medium as long as they don't suffocate or are dehydrated to a crisp. I just usually prefer semi Hydro over hydro because it gives my plants something to hold onto and makes them less wobbly ^^
12:36 - in my 40 gal turtle aquarium i built a little riparian area to help with filtration and it functions also as a cave underwater. The roots of the terrestrial plants are submerged in gravel and water, and a small pump (outside of the canister filter) pushes water through the glass box to a waterfall. These plants have a dedicated light as well as the turtle lights next to them. Its like a privacy fence for my turtle while basking. Yes there is a snake plant and yes it is thriving. Along with those little palm tree things, pothos, air plants, and basil that broke off my main plant and needed to grow roots to be put in soil. Its also where i propagate moss and basically any other plant to be rooted in dirt later. My fiddle leaf fig tree was next to the tank for a while and t h r i v e d with being fed tank water. I swear I can grow anything there
Chris Haper have 5 ferrets, 55 gallon aquarium with honey gourami, 7 bloodfin tetras, 6 coolie loaches, redtail black 🦈. Out in pond 7 fantail goldfish, 2 chocolate orandas. And 4 cocktoos.
12:22 you can grow succulents hydroponically. Never tried it in an aquarium( I might try it tbh), but I have 2 succulents that have been hydroponic for 3+ years.
The Isle of Arran in Scotland and I have 8 tanks currently as well as a pond I’m setting up outside, although I’m in the middle of moving house so they aren’t quite set up how I’d like. Congratulations on finally getting married by the way Chris, I wish you two the best of luck.
Recently found some growing Bronze Albino Corydora spawn, have at least 2 that I have seen swimming around with their chonky parents, thought all the eggs they laid got eaten since they disappeared after 2 days.
Yo Chris! Thanks again for Making Mondays Great Again (ha ha ha I saw what I did there) QOTW answer... Sending much love all the way from South Africa! Lekker Boet! Cheers
13:01 looks like tank for taking pictures. You put the fish, you get your high res crisp shots and then he goes back to his tank. Very common thing to do.
For the snake plants - yes you can grow them in water!! They do really well and sprout a lot of babies. I often propagate them this way, and it’s like a 99% success rate lol
6:59 Yes that’s Vallisneria gigantea, the biggest species of vallisneria. And the one in the photo isn’t even THAT big, I might only have a 80cm tank, but some leaves of my gigantea reach lengths of up to 2 meters.
Hokianga, Northern New Zealand. So glad I found FTR. So inspired by some, and also so saddened by some of the things I see on here. Lovely to hear someone talk with knowledge, humour, and a fair but of justifiable sarcasm, but without talking down to your audience 4.75 / 5 Keep up the good work 🙃 I have a question. Having returned to fish keeping after a gap of quite a few years I am puzzled by all the tanks with just an overhead light and no lid. They look fabulous, clean lines and good good light qualities, but how do you stop or restrict evaporation? Must be easier to manage in warmer climates, where you might not even need a to heat the tank, but doesn't anyone struggle with mould on the walls of their home or condensation on windows in parts of the world where winter gets cold with an open topped, heated tank? Or am I missing something...? I used to have a heated 3 foot square by 1 foot deep tank for fire bellied newts, landscaped like an indoor pond (Try getting a 3 foot square lid? Not a hope!) and the evaporation loss and the effects of all that moisture was a big issue. Maybe I should just consider a move to Florida, or one of the Pacific Islands.
My hornwort was growing so out of hand so I transferred half to my turtle/coy indoor pond and accidentally moved a bunch of guppy fry but I’m sure the coy will pick them off
and that big glass jug has such a small mouth..they didn’t leave the water low enough to maximize the surface area. It’s so stupid. Not to mention they might never get the fish out if it grows. and that poor goldfish and rainbow fish have zero color..you can tell they r not gonna make it too much longer. Love the chili rasbora tank❤️
You most definitely can grow snake plants hydroponically I start all my snake plants that way and they always wilt a bit when I plant them but you can keep them in water full time
I wish had a lagoon for pond fish for unwanted aquarium fish like convict cichlids but just have a 29 gallon aquarium with 7 Redeye tetras and 3 big apple 🐌 s. Me the other a month ago I just setup a 30 gallon aquarium with 5 mollies and crayfish.
The snake plant thing…. I dunno about that. I feel like, mine at least, don’t care for that much water… mainly cus I forget to water them for weeks 😅 and they’re perfect and grow tall. So I dunno. One got so tall I had to move it outside and i still only water it when I remember to. 😬 so I can’t imagine it being partially submerged like that at all

I swear I can grow anything there
The rainbow fish looks like it was added in post production. Southern Arizona here
Chris Haper have 5 ferrets, 55 gallon aquarium with honey gourami, 7 bloodfin tetras, 6 coolie loaches, redtail black 🦈. Out in pond 7 fantail goldfish, 2 chocolate orandas. And 4 cocktoos.
I live in the woods, on an island, in lake Superior. Thanks for making every Monday better
Victoria, Australia 🇦🇺 love fish tank review, I watch every week ❤
12:22 you can grow succulents hydroponically. Never tried it in an aquarium( I might try it tbh), but I have 2 succulents that have been hydroponic for 3+ years.
I normally dont like mondays but your videos make them better!
For me it's good afternoon to everyone because it's 17 o'clock right now in Germany. Nice video, just improved my monday.
Showing you much love from Marquette Heights Illinois❤❤
Dallas, Texas. And its called the Dallas World Aquarium, not the dallas aquarium. Its magical and wonderful. One of my favorite places.
Yo Chris! Thanks again for Making Mondays Great Again (ha ha ha I saw what I did there) QOTW answer... Sending much love all the way from South Africa! Lekker Boet! Cheers
The fly....OMGEEE 🤣🤣🤣
Tune in every TUESDAY here at the bottom of New Zealand
13:01 looks like tank for taking pictures. You put the fish, you get your high res crisp shots and then he goes back to his tank. Very common thing to do.
For the snake plants - yes you can grow them in water!! They do really well and sprout a lot of babies. I often propagate them this way, and it’s like a 99% success rate lol
6:59
Yes that’s Vallisneria gigantea, the biggest species of vallisneria.
And the one in the photo isn’t even THAT big, I might only have a 80cm tank, but some leaves of my gigantea reach lengths of up to 2 meters.
I`m from Norway. And always tune in on Mondays!
I am in Wichita Falls, Texas! Thanks for the video!
Have you ever visited the Dallas Aquarium?
12:20 yeah you can grow snake plants hydroponically. "lucky bamboo" is a dracaena
Hokianga, Northern New Zealand. So glad I found FTR. So inspired by some, and also so saddened by some of the things I see on here. Lovely to hear someone talk with knowledge, humour, and a fair but of justifiable sarcasm, but without talking down to your audience 4.75 / 5 Keep up the good work 🙃
I have a question.
Love your channel and hello from Long Beach California
I have a snake plant growing in my tank, in HOB. And congrats my boy!!!
Erm as a nerd in plants yes snake plants can be grown in tanks BUT not recommended.
Can you please do another planted setup ❤❤
My hornwort was growing so out of hand so I transferred half to my turtle/coy indoor pond and accidentally moved a bunch of guppy fry but I’m sure the coy will pick them off
My birthday is this week glad to have ftr here today 😁
A great vid, as always. Is that the Fluval Betta Premium Aquarium Kit I see in the background? [QOTW- I live in South Kingstown, Rhode Island.]
Thanks for the awesome channel FTR.
Cape Town, South Africa
Qotw ireland. One elderly neon tetra left in 120l, will be needing inspiration on scaping very soon.
and that big glass jug has such a small mouth..they didn’t leave the water low enough to maximize the surface area. It’s so stupid. Not to mention they might never get the fish out if it grows.
and that poor goldfish and rainbow fish have zero color..you can tell they r not gonna make it too much longer.
Love the chili rasbora tank❤️
The second one seems rather common for a glofish tank with decor intended to glow more
You most definitely can grow snake plants hydroponically I start all my snake plants that way and they always wilt a bit when I plant them but you can keep them in water full time
They say that guppy is stuck there to this day. Staring out into the world.
What ever happened to Meep Meep and Moop Moop the goldfish?
Most Mondays I wake up before the ftr and wait for it to come out, Happy Monday everyone
QOTW - Göttingen, Lower Saxony, Germany
Woohoo another german, moin from Lübeck 👋
I wish had a lagoon for pond fish for unwanted aquarium fish like convict cichlids but just have a 29 gallon aquarium with 7 Redeye tetras and 3 big apple 🐌 s. Me the other a month ago I just setup a 30 gallon aquarium with 5 mollies and crayfish.
Fish videos are my favorite way to spend my lunch break
QOTW- Arizona
The snake plant thing…. I dunno about that. I feel like, mine at least, don’t care for that much water… mainly cus I forget to water them for weeks 😅 and they’re perfect and grow tall. So I dunno. One got so tall I had to move it outside and i still only water it when I remember to. 😬 so I can’t imagine it being partially submerged like that at all
