Beta fish are a good fish but because their so popular the pet trade has issues with inbreeding and due to surten big company's breeding betas to have bigger and bigger tail fins beta fish these days have a far far shorter life 😢 their are 2 species of bata fish thay have very big tail fins due to selective breeding but becase of this they have a hard time swimming and the bigger tail fins breeds have a far shorter life span due to complications in their body's along side bad inbreeding in other words beta fish these day live far far shorter life spans the bata fish for 10 years ago where the pet trade for betas was far smaller and they didn't have company's geniticly modifying the to have have bigger tail fins
I was so triggered at a petsmart the other day! Everyone was buying a betta and putting it in a 2-3.5 tank and it was really hard for me to not freak out on them 😂
@Shala Cooper in the UK it is Pets at Home. My local branch (Stafford) is a good store, knowledgeable, friendly staff who do care because my female got seperated during mating season whilst i cycled my tank up waiting at home. However, a store in the North West several years ago I called out for their treatment of fish. They knew me in there and after some 'persuasion' I rescued and rebilitated a few. They didn't care at all.
@@zetametallic Thats pretty cool! I just the the industry as a whole needs to change their marketing and also there should be minimum tank size on all the fish tags including the bettas.
Literally went to buy more meds for my fish for emergencies. Saw a dad get suggested a 5gal split tank so "they can have other fish the betta won't be able to fight!" Grats, now you've killed more than a betta! Also the kid was thinking of getting some kind of "shark" because it only gets to be 6 inches.
10:10 . Thank you for your words. My betta swam in a heavily planted 13 gallon tank, parameters and everything always checked off as good. He made it to a year, before he passed a few weeks ago. When I noticed he wasn't doing great and had some sort of swelling on one side of his face and a white spot around his gills I went to my lfs. They sold me something to treat him with and something extra for the tank. So I put him in a seperate tank, treated him for one and a half weeks. At first it seemed to help, the white spot disappeared, but the swelling didn't. Once he was only moving to get some air every now and then, I knew that there was no happy ending. I put him back into his original tank, where he laid on the plant leaves for another day and a half, before he finally left. I still have the tank, continuing a long term treatment. I don't want to give up fish keeping, but niether do I feel like trying once again.
It hurt seeing those goldfish in that small tank. I dont think they originally were in that tank either. They produce a growth inhibiting chemical that stunts them when the concentration is too high. They couldn't get that big if they all grew up in there.
Years ago I watched a short video on youtube of a fish in a round bowl that was maybe 2 cups of water max, with a few marbles in the bottom and a bright flashing/color changing light. The comment section was filled with disapproval, and him responding along the lines of "lmao it's just a fish, calm down" . My heart breaks every time I walk into a pet store and see shelves full of tiny tanks. I know they still sell them because they still sell.
My gorgeous betta died of what might have been a tumor. It was fleshy and just kept growing, no fin damage or sluggish behaviour. I cried for two days! He wound up in a 20 gallon planted tank because that's what we had, just him and some snails, but what a life! He actually has a little painted headstone in my garden. Fish are smart and can bond with people.
I'm pretty sure the reason why people are rich is BECAUSE they are hobbiless 😂 (But on a side note, thank you for making these, they always brighten my day.)
New airstone in today, so exciting! Not really, I know, but gives me an excuse to clean my skimmer (reef tank) which I havent touched in ages and just generally clean the partition of my overflow.
I'm always worried when I see parents buying fish for their kids. There are probably a few who actually go behind their kid and check to see if they are properly caring for it and help and scold them if they are slacking off, but there are likely plenty of others who will happily let the fish die a drawn out death just to be a "learning experience" for the child when it finally dies and they come crying to them . If they want something to let their kids independently practice responsiblity with, I think they should just get them a Tamagotchi or some pet raising app, and not use a living creature as a guinea pig.
To the person whose fish passed away, I had a very similar situation with a koi betta (died after 4 months). The fish shown looks similar, I read that they can be susceptible to tumors. RIP
I used to have a betta fish, he lived in a sphere tank, only plants, no hide (please note I was 4 and my dad apparently did zero research) and he ended up burying himself underneath those flat marble things and he died there.. never getting a beta again because I wouldn’t be able to take care of a *proper* fish tank
i saw someone on another yt video compare these crappy fish tanks to keeping a puppy in a closet and it makes a lot of sense. you feed it and give it water but it's kept in a cramped and uncomfortable enclosure. sure it'll survive but is it thriving? no
8:33 assassin snails aren't cannibalistic, they don't eat other assassin snails, they also breed very slowly so 5 assassin snails really wouldnt make a dent against that many ramshorns lmao
I have my first tank rn and I put brine shrimp eggs in last night after some work and I’m so scared I’ve done something wrong despite gathering as much info as I can- after they grow some I plan on adding some herbivore snails
I had a 6 year old betta fish named kimchi. He was given to me by a friend who didn't want him and she had him for 1 year so he lived 5 years with me. I was so sad when he died. Now I am looking to get one for myself and glad I brushed up on my knowledge I forgot what I had to do like cycle it first 😅
I so feel the one where the betta passed. I was so crushed when my two bettas died that my family forbid me from getting any more fish. (don't worry about there being two; they were in separate tanks. I adopted them because walmart was keeping to bettas in the same cup)
I recently found two small tanks on the side of the road, one is a 1 gallon, the other is a 1.5 gallon. Didn't feel comfortable putting fish in them, so I went to the lake and made two ecosphere type tanks
My betta lived in a bowl for his first year of life and I felt so bad but I didn’t have enough money to get a 5 gal tank, thankfully my brother had an extra one in his garage I used and he was so happy! He passed away at 3 and some change due to old age. He was a good boy, RIP Hanabira

My grandma made fun of me for burying my dead fish :/ (because it was tiny) she told me to flush it and wouldn’t believe me when I told her that it’s bad for the eco system- I buried it anyways
I love fish, and one day plan to get a tank for some (after lots of research and prep). I haven't kept fish since I was a small child. Back then I was taught to float the bag or container the fish is in, for a bit of time, inside the tank so that they don't experience a sharp temperature change in the water. Is there anything to this? Or is this a misguided practice I was taught?
I remember I was a kid, didn’t know how to say baby. And one time my pet shrimp give birth just 1 baby and my dad thought is poo so I try to tell him eye to eye with the toilet. But suddenly good bye. After months, happened again. I hope the baby shrimp in the toilet is doing fine.
I wouldnt exactly call youtube my preferred platform but I also dont have tiktok, remember my instagram like once per month and my twitter once per week, so. ....as for form of content. You ever see those 8 hour video essays and go "who watches those?" Me. I watch those.
I saw fish tank like in 12:00 in real life. My friend has her koi fish in similar conditions durring 2-3 months in winter. Then they have a huge outside pond
Oh man, your compilations of older episodes are great and I think I've seen every episode now thanks to that. I watch a lot of Dungeons and Dragons on TH-cam and those are 4 hour episodes or longer. I guess that has changed me a bit.

I also cringed at the plants that lady chose for that pink tank. Those tend to be very jagged on the edges and will tear the fins! I pray that they also acclimated him to to that water.

How do I kill trumpet snails in my cichlid tank because the trumpet snails are borrowing under the sand (the tank is 75 gallons)
Funny how this guy loves to virtue signal on youtube yet his family back home are the worst animal cruelty offenders in the world.
