my dad and his buddies would sing this song at almost every bbq! this was their jam!!!! memories of easier times when life was carefree and fun! miss those days,
Wow, I almost cry when heard dis song. I grew up on the leeward side. My Dad was a cook at The Jolly Roger in maili. It opened up in 1974, There, is where the Makaha Sons of Ni'ihau got their start professionally. IZ was still 16 when they started playing at The Jolly Roger. My Dad "Billy" was confronted by Israel one day back in the kitchen of The Jolly Roger restaurant. IZ said to my Dad, "eh Billy! Try listen to dis song, I jus wen write em, tell Me what you tink. I goin try sing em tonight." So Israel sang this song to my Dad . My Dad laughingly said " das pretty catchy, but you talkin about Pakalolo (weed)". At that time Smokin Weed was pretty normal . So My Dad said "Go try em and see if the crowd like's it". THE REST IS HISTORY. I GUESS THE CROWD LIKED IT! Mahalo for bringing back some good memories of my Dad and The Makaha Sons of Ni'ihau. My Dad past away this past April. Thats why I was soo emotional when this song started to play. Mahalo nui, Aloha!
Yeah, William. I went to St. Louis from 1974-78 when we got the honor of being serenaded by the Makaha Sons. This was during the Spring of 1977. What a surprise to hear Bruddah Iz rise to such prominence! Aloha....
I miss the days of getting REAL Hawaiian marijuana, grown in Hawaii. It was $450.00 in 1988 money, and worth every penny....Like they sing, "oh so sweet"....
@@JB-sv5pr picked up several z’s from my Kona bruddah, so frosty gold . 90 day wonders. Rental car was $59 week @ Alamo. Wrapped up 6 seal-a-meals as I boarded evening time ol Kona airport . Strolled by after inspection wearing xxl Hawaiian 🌺 shirt, no problem bruddah. Even wearing prescription shades. Flew home to Newps in 84. Best years of my brazen adventures w/ da kine
As far as is known Michael, ALL of Makaha Sons of Niihau albums are available on-line, either the Barnes & Noble or Mountain Apple Records. Living 808, get my music from B&N or local used books/vinyl records & cd store. If you search, you SHOULD be able to find other Hawaiian music releases on TH-cam...Good luck & Happy hunting!
