I’ve played about 300 hours of BOTW. I beat the story twice and then on master mode. I completed every shrine and got all the armor upgraded, I did all the dlc. Basically I did prettty much everything minus the korok seeds. I also haven’t played it since 2019 and I think going back to the same map with some new elements will lead to some rediscovery and new discoveries as well

Hey man I think it’s 100% reasonable to be worried about botw2
I’m also concerned about the same map and how it’s gonna feel fresh again
But honestly? Zelda team earned my trust with botw and I’m 100% sure they’ll make hyrule fun to rediscover
I doubt the same team who made botw, one of the greatest open world ever imo, would just make a lazy cashgrab sequel especially after 5 years of development

I am definitely worried about that too. That was my first question after 2019's reveal trailer, are they gonna create a new map or not? They have to make the world we already explored for hundreds of hours interesting and fresh but I can't imagine how they will do it... I'm scared that it will feel like a DLC! After this long development time I expect a massive (!) amount of content (new amazing Quests, a lot of new characters, dungeons(?), huge new areas, towns, weapons etc.) and i can only hope they haven't even touched the surface with the recent trailers. It wouldn’t make sense story wise if hyrule looked completely different

  • @painuchiha2694
    @painuchiha2694 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

I think the shot of the trailer where you said it looks identical aside new enemy camps is understandable…if not a bit of a stretch?
A lot of gameplay might be different, combat might feel much improved and better, many caves may be hidden, there may be a lot of new dangerous enemies ,new sidequest and new stuff to do within hyrule and the sky area might feel bigger than just “an addition”
So although yeah it could feel like DLC we can only wait once they show more cause they showed a minimum amount of stuff soo far
We really barely know anything about botw2 since we only got 2 teasers rather than full blown trailers
If rediscovering the same hyrule is an issue you probably will be disappointed, but I think a lot of people who thought botw was empty might find an hyrule finally worth exploring if there’s soo much more to do and find
And to me I think I’d rather have an old hyrule with 10/10 gameplay, story than another new world that’s kind of empty.
Botw is amazing but sidequest, story, dungeons, enemy variety were weak aspects of the game.
The shrines and beast were cool but they were a repetitive, unsurprising thing to find soo often and aside those there wasn’t much
Botw was fun cause gameplay is soo fun yet simple making exploration fun despite the repetitive things to find.
I can’t defend not having a new world map,I would love that, but even if we don’t I think they’ll make up for it on other aspects of the game
Similar to how majora’s mask was a small unambitious world on paper, but full of memorable quest and things to do

  • @Baltaj720

I thought that I was the only one concerned about the sequel. Exploration was one of the most amazing things about Breath of the Wild. You were truly free to explore and go where you desire. The map was extensive and offered a lot. There was always something you could discover.
The game truly nailed the exploration. Now, that we might be going back to the same map, the exploration, which is one the best things about BotW, might feel lackluster. I hope the Zelda team is capable of making us feel we are truly playing the Sequel of the Game, not just a DLC.
Overall, you have made good arguments in your video and I agree with your points. I adored BotW, and I am still very excited for the Sequel. I just hope our concerns are eliminated at E3 when Nintendo showcases more about the Sequel.

    @thijsdeboer6968 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

I definitely understand where you're coming from, although i don't really agree with you. I'm a bit more optimistic in that regard
Obviously, right now, we can only speculate on how they are going to make the old map as exciting as it was in the first game. But i think we have to remember that this game is made by the same people who made BOTW. Yes, this sequel started as ideas for DLC, which is probably one of the reasons they're using the same map, but i also believe that they wouldn't reuse this map if they didn't know how to make it fun to explore. They know how to make a game world fun to explore, we can clearly see this in BOTW. Of course it's easier to reuse a map, but you said yourself that the map of BOTW probably didn't take a lot of time to make. So what's stopping them from making a new map? I feel like the Zelda team would make a new map if they felt the game would be too boring with the old map.
This is just pure speculation and i'm probably wrong, but please hear me out. I think the reason they are making a game instead of DLC isn't only that there were just too many ideas to fit in a DLC(although that is certainly part of it), because, like you explained, many other games have had massive DLC. I think that the Zelda team had a lot of ideas that required more drastic changes to the already existing world. The two DLC packs that did come out for BOTW added new content, but the map itself was left almost completely untouched. I imagine that the ideas they had for a third pack, which were later turned into the sequel, involved changing the landscape of Hyrule so drastically that they felt it would be better to make an entirely new game, so that the original map of BOTW could remain the same as it was before. I believe that Hyrule Castle floating into the sky is just the beginning of the changes they are making to the map. It's technically still the same map, but i feel that, maybe over the course of the game, certain landmarks are going to start floating, others maybe fall down, creating entrances to caves and other cool stuff and through this changing the landscape a lot, with some things still remaining intact. This would, at least for me, make the world enjoyable to explore again. This might be the reason the game is taking longer than one would think, with a lot of the groundwork already being there.
All of this might be a little too optimistic and i'm most likely wrong, but this is my prediction of how they are going to reuse the same map. We won't know until we get more information, but right now, i'm not really worried about BOTW 2.

Well yeah, I understand. Although the map obviously won't be the exact same, the impact of discovering the map like the first game won't be as impactful. Although they tweak a few spots here and there and add some islands in the sky, I don't think it will be breathtaking like the first one, and I'm already ready for that. This will be the SEQUEL to Botw, it will keep BotW's DNA, meaning gameplay mechanics, characters, artstyle, etc... But a brand new map? I don’t think comparing Breath of the Wild’s sequel to Horizon Forbidden West is as accurate as comparing BotW’s sequel to Elden Ring. Dark Souls 3 was released in early 2016, and had DLC for it which came out up to a year after its initial release (similar to BotW). Both are developed by Japanese AAA game companies, and both were announced in 2019 before a long radio silence.
And while BotW’s sequel is apparently going to have “the same Hyrule” as we had in BotW, Elden Ring also reused a lot of the animation and model assets from previous titles, with enough changes to make them feel distinct. I think BotW’s sequel will likely do something similar; reuse a lot of the same assets, while still changing up the map enough to give fans that feeling of discovery that they crave, after having played the game’s predecessor. I don’t think the points you made in this video really support your reasoning to be concerned about the map for BotW2, but I also don’t think it’s entirely wrong to be worried. Personally, I just have more faith in the devs and their reasons for making the choices they have.

Honestly they shouldn’t have said anything so that fans couldn’t gripe beforehand. The Zelda team believe in exploration more than even the fans have. They’ve been anything but lazy and without thought. The original game developed starting 2013 and released 2017. If they wanted to reuse the same map and engine I’m pretty sure it would’ve finished much sooner but instead it’s taking longer than the original. Yes there’s the pandemic but I also sense that there’s more in store than we realize.

However there might be enough changes to the map to make it fun to explore yet have a sense of familiarity. Also, as far as we know, BotW2 might follow the traditional Zelda formula. Speaking of going somewhere new, The Wind Waker's sequel, Phantom Hourglass, takes place in a new land after Hyrule is abandoned. They could have just as easily set the game in Hyrule after the trees connected the land and created new islands, or centuries later when the oceans had dried up, or in another part of the ocean with new islands to explore. The possibilities are endless and there is no excuse to reuse the entirely of the original map, unchanged. Let's hope that's not what we are getting. At the very least on top of the islands and or dungeons I hope we get some expansion on the villages and even rebuilt settlements. Like some sign that the world has progressed and recovered a bit since the previous game. The old world as a base is fine but it needs to feel affected by the story events and also improve on the original’s weaknesses. Mainly a lack of unique regional enemies that aren’t just elemental reskins, unique dungeons as well as fleshing out areas that previously weren’t as well defined.

I agree with alot of what you said tbh, Zelda is my favorite IP & when I saw that they'll use the same Hyrule I was *royally* disappointed lol, ok the skies are new which is cool but the huge map of Hyrule looks almost the same! The latest delay video gave me hope when Aunoma said there will be more to explore beyond what we know so far (skies + Hyrule), so that's pretty cool.
The only thing that makes me optimistic about them reusing Hyrule map is the talent of the team, there's no way the same team that made BotW will make a half assed sequel after 6 years of development (new release date is spring 2023), yet I'm still worried a bit & wish they never decided to use the same old Hyrule since by now people have explored the hell out of it.. anyway only time will tell but I hope we get an extensive look at BotW2 at E3 like we did in 2016 about BotW 🙏

There's another video I saw about the potential theme, or one of the themes, of BoTW2 being rebuilding, reincarnation. You know what I want to see is settlements being rebuilt, cultures coming together like in Tarrey Town, people getting the world back on its feet after ages of chaos .It's why the Tarrey Town quest is so satisfying: there's that feeling of renewed hope.

I completely see what you mean and agree. I don't really mind it because we've had it before and I heavily enjoyed them. The sequels to Pokémon Black and White and Pokémon Sun and Moon took place in the same region with extra features and areas. I ended up like the sequels better than the originals in both cases.
That's kind of the reason I like them so much because they were so similar to the original. It just made me like the sequels even more.
I understand your critique but as I am with video games: if the game is enjoyable then I don't really care how it turns out. Hell, Xenoblade 2 is my favorite game of all time which is controversial in and of itself. I'm not really one to complain about anything in game, which could be dangerous but hey not everyone has the same opinion.

I agree very much. They raised parts of Hyrule to the sky and gave us undergrounds to explore to make it different, which is not a bad idea. I would’ve gone further and did a timeskip of sorts. Ganondorf returns 10 years after the defeat of Clamity Ganon. This way you can somewhat change the surface too, have new villages..locations…etc.

what if they're using the same map, adding the floatings world, and the new underworld BUT INSTEAD of assuming that the sequel will look the same in the end is wrong in my opinion. I think the teasers we've seen are picked out from earlier development and I'm actually hoping they're kind of re-vamping the whole overall aesthetic. Same asses yes, but new textures, shaders, enhanced physics. this could be the Hyrule we know and love but I feel like the amount of time taken for this new game is being put into something we haven't thought of yet.

First off, I agree with you. If we are just reusing the same map with almost no changes, and then having new areas added, then it is just a massive expansion being called a sequel. And, in face, Nintendo said this began as DLC, but ended up being too big to be DLC, so they decided to make it a full on sequel. You are right that if the world has barely changed, there won't be the same sense of discovery and desire to explore.
That said, I am not worried that much because I trust Nintendo. I know they are aware that just adding some new stuff to BOTW isn't enough. I think they are making some changes to the overworld, but they hadn't implemented those changes enough at the time of the trailer reveal to show them off, or they want to keep them as surprises. I think they are doing this:
    1. Small (and some big) changes to the overworld, such as new structures, new entrances to caves and the underworld, and new ways to interact with the world, such as using new abilities and swimming under water.
    2. Islands in the sky, caverns and dungeons underground, and new islands and areas around the original map.
    3. New underground towns (or a large underground city)
    4. Remixed enemy types and new enemy types on the surface. New enemies underground, and new shrines/puzzles/temples in the sky.
    5. New mounts and means of traversing the world.
Hopefully Nintendo is aware of our concerns and is doing everything to make sure our fears aren't realized.

This was put up before the announcement that the game has been delayed to spring 2023 , in the video Eiji Aonuma stated "that the sequel will take place just on the ground as in previous game, but also in the skies above. However, the expanded world goes beyond that. " So I think the game map will be much bigger than botw. We just haven't seen it yet.
I,m thinking they are taking the full potential of switch hardware and that's why is taking a longer time. Remember Breath the wild was a Wii U hardware that got imported to the switch.
You compared Horizon zero Dawn and Zelda Botw both came out in 2017, Apple and Oranges. Horizon zero dawn is a good game but Zelda Botw is a great game that's why it was the Game of the year in 2017 , instead of Horizons zero dawn.
Horizon forbidden west is a good game but what happen after ? It went to obscurity after Elden Ring came out. So once again Nintendo want to make a Great game instead of good game ,so people can play it for another 5 years.
Nintendo know what they're doing. They been in the business for over 130 years. If you don't believe me, look it up.

It's hard to say what they're doing with the sequel as they refuse to show anything. I get your fear however, as I've personally put over 600 hours into BOTW, and can confidently say that re-exploring the same world would be pretty boring. I'm glad they're adding new content and areas, but if the main world is the same it won't really matter much.
Plus at this point there's really no excuse left for using the same world, the sequel has had more development time than the original, there's no reason they couldn't have developed a whole new world and then some by now.

I understand your concern but the approach you’re taking feels like a self-fulfilling prophecy. Like you’re saying you expect a core part of this game to essentially ruin the game for you. If you turn out to be right will you approach it with an open mind, or will you have already made your mind up and not give it a fair chance?
It’s Nintendo, they blow us away with innovative gameplay and charming characters most of the time… and they blow us away with massive failures and missteps and antagonizing their fans. My expectations for botw2 are extremely high and I’m not holding my breath (of the wild?) either, but I have a problem with the tone of this video because it feels to me that you’re making a pre judgement before experiencing it. If it’s an identical map with some additions and new dungeons and new innovative game mechanics I suspect it will be an extremely satisfying game.
Having said that idk if any game will be as good as a first ever play through of botw. I was never into the Zelda franchise until that game. Im not sure anything will be as good, not even my second play through was.
