being a 44 year old man, i should certainly already know how to do this. but i didnt. And since my pop passed away a couple years ago, i cant make that phone call. I followed your instructions and it worked perfectly. Thanks very much. You are a lifesaver.
Thank God for you, man!!! I was freaking out thinking I was going to have to replace a water heater. Then I did not know how to relight a pilot light. I'm a single woman and I am afraid of mechanical things like this or anything that has to do with gas. Thank you so so so SO much.
Lifesaver. Woke up this morning and got drop kicked by a cold shower. Thanks to you I was able to get it fixed and didn't miss a beat. Thanks again bro.
Thanks so much for this! It worked perfectly! I live alone and couldn't get my handyman to come out for a few more days, but just couldn't bear to keep taking cold showers. This was so informative and I'm really glad I know how to do it myself for the future!
Like many of your viewers below, I too am WAY grateful for your concise, well organized and easy to understand instructions and video quality too. Thanks so much for this excellent short tutorial in safely re-lighting the gas pilot a hot water heater. You're a rock star. I did before hand take a can of compressed air to blow out around the burner and pilot as well as gently around the flue up top before relighting.
Thank you for taking the time to post this! My water heater is a similar model and I did not even need to use a lighter, but I had NO IDEA what the instructions on the water heater meant when it said "take off the door" below the burner unit. This video saved me so much time.
Out of the blue my pilot light went out. Need to do laundry. Found your great video & got the pilot light restarted. I liked the patient instructions, very descriptive, and especially liked the video shot of the pilot lighting and the burner lighting. Thanks for posting this !
TipsNNTricks thank you for this informative and detailed video. Went through 3 other videos but what they did didnt seem safe. I saw all of your video including the couple pauses and plays... You are a lifesaver. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with all of us! You are a master of your traits... Bles you and your family.
I know this is an old video, but it was super helpful for us today - our water heater wasn't working, with this video we were able to shut it off, light the pilot/turn it back on, and it's working again. Really really appreciate it!
I just want to thank you so, so much. This is the fourth time I've had to use your video. I am scared to tears each time I've had to do this, but your relaxed, calm instructions help me to try not to freak out.
I can't begin to thank you enough. I am very cautious when it comes to stuff like this and was ready to call a professional. When I saw your video I knew I could do this. I had the exact model you do so I followed right along. My Father will be very proud. I should have known how to do this before now.
Thank you so much. I am a single mom and I live in income base housing so it takes forever for them to come and do any maintenance repairs thank you so much for uploading a video that was easy for me to follow I feel so proud of myself that I was able to light my pilot light and now me and my children can enjoy hot showers and baths once again thank you again so much!!
Thank you! I've been searching for info on this model and finally found this. Perfect! The 5 star rating I was going to give the gas maintenance company for work they did yesterday, went down, because reigniting the water heater should be part of maintenance 101. Put everything back the way you found it! It's possible they didn't say anything to get another service call. I'm not replacing my 23 year old water heater with a new one that lasts 3 years!
This video was a life saver. Just got back from long trip and first time I turned off the water heater. Your instructions were easy to follow and I loved the close up of the video shots. One, two, three and water heater is on. That easy. Thanks.
Thank you so much for the helpful info! We had a possible gas leak and the gas provider turned of the gas temporarily. Apparently he didn't know how to relight it and didn't mention it...so unknowingly the burners were not lit properly. As a result no hot water 😒 I looked at every possible reason why it could be malfunctioning and nearly ordered a very expensive part.....but you saved the day with these wonderful instructions on how to light it the proper way. Thank you more than I could ever express..
Thank you for posting this video. Due to age of my water heater was unable to find instructions for relighting. This was perfect. My family will be able to enjoy hot showers in the morning because of you.
This video helps so much all the other videos were OK they just did exactly what the instructions were but my concern was whether I can use a lighter to light it since it’s supposed to be self igniting and yours was the only video that actually use the lighter thank you
Thank you for this video. I let all my propane run out and therefore had a difficult time lighting as there was most likely air in the line. I had to hold the pilot light button down for at least 2 minute a few times to bring the gas to the water heater, finally on the second try of doing this for a couple minutes each time I got a light odor of propane, I turned it to off for 5 minutes like you said so the gas would dissipate and then tried lighting per your instructions. I had to put my flame right on the pilot to get it to light and it did, my flame however wasn’t as big but it lit, so thank you.
Thank you so much for your step by step video.....worked like a charm for me. I had no clue how to do anything with a water heater until I watched this video :)
Thank you for the video. The gas company said I have gas coming in, but, no igniter spark. Called the contractor. Instead, I bought the whole ignition kit from Amazon but not fit. Then, I changed the thermo couple. I haven’t received the igniter ordered from eBay(long waiting). With all these trouble, now, I know I can just light up the pilot by a lighter just like you are using(I can get it from Dollar Store)
I called State Water Heater tech support on GS6-30-OCT 250 pilot light problem on NEW unit. Patient gentleman provided suggestions. Re-bleed gas line at uniit. ALSO located small small Arc of igniter. Look for arc in low light conditions outside unit's window. It will be at end of shiney tube a tad left-center of window. Good luck!! Thanks for vid also!!
Very good video, with nice steady camera work. Also, great safety tips. It was an especially good overview of the burner and pilot - to see where the flames should display. This is much better than the instructions that come with a water heater. Mine is slightly different, with an electric ignitor vs. the manual (my heater is a 12-year-old A.O. Smith Promax). Good stuff and thanks for the video.
Thank you. Your video was great. The other ones I looked at were "blah, blah, blah" while you were very precise. I'm putting you on my Bookmarks Bar. Thanks again.
thank you - I am a divorced woman trying to take care of business at home without trying to bother my family/friends. my pilot light went off yesterday and nothing like taking a cold shower. your video was extremely helpful, very detailed to a person who knows nothing on how to light the water heater. thank you for the info, I did it by myself..
Thank you so much... I really needed to see your video... I was afraid reading only the instruction manual, but with your video and Faith our hot water continues on...lol
Thanks so much for the video! You helped me get this done....Now I get to call the plumbers and cancel...Saved me a bunch of time and money...And even better is...I have the EXACT same water heater....so everything all the way through is identical :) other than my heater has more wear and tear....Probably will end up replacing it eventually, but so much easier to follow your video, no need to improvise. .
+TipsNNTricks I woke up to the same issue... followed your instructions yet the only thing that lit was the pilot... the burner didn't ignite... vhat to do?
thanks so much for this video I'm pretty clueless when it comes to things like this and you explained everything perfectly and I got my pilot light lit! now I can shower thank you!
Thanks a ton. You took a cover off using a phillips screw driver. You did not put it back on. Should that be left out or should that cover be put back on, please? Thanks.
This video was fantastic. My husband and I follow each step and you were clear, very detailed, and complete. Thanks for the help!
being a 44 year old man, i should certainly already know how to do this. but i didnt. And since my pop passed away a couple years ago, i cant make that phone call. I followed your instructions and it worked perfectly. Thanks very much. You are a lifesaver.
This is the single most straight to the point video on here. No nonsense. Just facts. Super helpful. Thanks!!

OMG, this video has literally saved us from having cold water for the weekend. Thank you for showing us step by step. We are grateful.
This by far the best Video guide one can find to ignite your OLD HOUSE by the Match/Lighter Water Heater. Thank you so much. Keep up the good work
Thanks so much for this! It worked perfectly! I live alone and couldn't get my handyman to come out for a few more days, but just couldn't bear to keep taking cold showers. This was so informative and I'm really glad I know how to do it myself for the future!
My boyfriend blew out the flame on our water heater cleaning the garage, and this video helped us both.Thank you soo much!

Thanks so much for this clear-cut, easy-to-understand video! I'm terrified of natural gas but your instructions made this easy for me.

That was a perfect explanation... got mine going in a minute and didn't blow up the house!
Thanks for your time and hard work making this video :)
