When she asked why the monsters didn't kill him when not suited up, I said "The show has a universe, and it has its logic. It doesn't break its logic, but you need to accept it too. If it says rain is hot, accept it will have a reason for it, rather then demand answers" and that's kinda Do bros. It's a show that has it's ways,cans wants you to accept them. It doesn't need to explain everything because that's kinda the point. That not everything gets explained. Just go with it. :)
At least it’s not Zi-O bad where the logic decides to shoot itself in the foot and expect to to make sense. Hey guys, you know how OG riders get erased when another riders are made, lets just pretend that doesn’t happen anymore. What I loved about this show is that the team doesn’t retire like most seasons it feels like even if tho the show has ended they are still the donbrothers saving the day when needed
I got the impression that the Hurricangers were the same way. Perhaps the main threat was dealt with in the series proper, but the two ninja schools were there to be vigilant against possible threats to the the world.
IMO, I think the fact that Saruhara doesn't have a reason to fight IS the reason Saruhara concept as a character imo is that "he have nothing nor reason" Such as living without money or anything that is related to desire, this can be seen as how he keeps eating imaginary food even though in reality there is nothing, yet he still content with himself When he meet the former Saru brother, Iirc he ask saruhara "what is your reason protecting these people despite you gain nothing in return?", which Saruhara answer Iirc again "why do I need a reason?" Or something the like To me, that episode and lines tells me that, Saruhara doesn't need a reason to protect people, he simply wants to. Again, this can be seen with how many times a scene of Saruhara appearing helping people, they didn't ask him to help them, he simply sees someone's in trouble, and help them regardless who they are or if they give him something or not Again this is just how I see his character honestly
On point! Throught out the show he has no intergal plot point and simply there to see them. It fits with his "Wabi sabi" life style, like the clouds that simply exist and passing by. I think it's a really beautiful way to live life and observe where it get you, enjoying the moment. I find his relationship with Haruka is so underrated, they acted so annoying to each other yet shares one braincell
I got the impression at the beginning, that he was helping people so that they would provide for him and his wabi-sabi lifestyle. Imaginary food can only get you so far. When the show ended, I felt that he had changed the least, but one of these retrospective videos pointed out that he had be become less selfish and trusting of others. Sure, he'd been acting as a kindly older brother to Haruka, but part of that might have initially been so that he could mooch at the café on her dime. Yet, he does go through three events that show his growth-- dealing with the greed of his predecessor, pretending to be a patriarch while dealing with the fake exorcist, and learning to work with Sonoi during the battle with the Neo-Noto near the end. Surprisingly, even though he appears to have barely changed, Sarubro was the one with the most significant growth as a character. Overall, my biggest complaint was that the series meandered too much at the start, which caused things to be rushed at the end. Zenkaiger's biggest problem was that they got too caught up in their 'monster of the week' format, and had to rush the ending because they ran out of time. It's my hope that the showrunner for KingOhger has a general outline plotted out, and that the latter half isn't rushed or run out of material 3-4 episodes before the finale.
I read somewhere that's the reason why Jiro gets so little screentime is because Mr.Toshiki didn't want the series to be too dark since he consider Jiro's storyline to be too sad/tragic. Still not quite sure if what I read was true, but If it is, I can see why.

*spoilers* When haruka unveils her new manga during the final episode, it all makes sense. Why the series started with her and also ended with her. This series was told from her POV, so it makes sense that there will be plot holes because she can only tell the things that she knows. That's how I see it

I realize that many of the "missing" plot threads directly apply to merch on some level, save for Kaito's, which would be very spoilery to explain. And Inoue has done that before when merch is concerned (Faiz being the most blatant example).
That's my only complain about the show. There's a lot of ideas that are left without ever acknowledging or concluding them. But it's still one of my favorite series regardless.

One grievance I have that I’d like to air out and wasn’t mentioned in the video was the DonBrothers ability to transform into other Sentai. And how useless it was. When the Gokaigers transform into other Sentai, they perfectly blend their unique fighting styles with the powers/weapons of the Sentai they change into, using the abilities that they don’t normally have. And when they change, it’s grandiose and sometimes acts as an integral part of the episode. DonBrothers? In the handfuls of times that they do change into other Sentai, they just fight like they normally do. It’s just they look different now. Hell, I recall GolDonMomotaro transforming into TOQ 1gou, while still wearing the armaments of his golden form, which makes transforming into the other Sentai meaningless since he still have the same power. They shouldn’t have given the ability to change into other Sentai to the DonBrothers and put more effort into the monsters that they were supposed to represent.
I think the Avatar Changes were a toyline related aspect, and Inoue is known for not caring about integrating the toy selling aspects of these shows with the story telling aspect. So, he did the bare minimum with the toyline part.
This is definitely one of the show's weakest aspects, randomly including the ability to transform into other sentai makes no sense conisdering the show is not a love letter like zenkaiger/gokaiger, and as you said they barely even use it making it completely pointless and making you wonder why it was even included in the first place. The donbrothers have also shown that they actually already have their OWN unique set of abilities outside of them (ex: robotaro)

Yeah I’d definitely say donbrothers is very unique in the way it was set up with everything especially, with its unanswered questions link with the Don clan, with sentai gears becoming shurikens o think. And transforming into past respective rangers on colors. But there still so much to love about it and I can’t explain why that’s, it’s true power and honestly makes me curious.
I agree, sometimes I was a bit annoyed at how episodic the show was, but I enjoyed it a lot anyway. Also, I'm pretty happy this is the first sentai I watched as it was airing.
i get were he's comming from with whe whole "you don't need to explain everything to have something be fun", but....that kinda falls flat when they set up an intresting plot point and then...don't cary though with it, some examples: the time the Black ranger was captured by the beasticals and it looked like there was gonna be a whole thing to get them back...only for it to be resolved in the next episode with nothing changing beyond continuing a joke that really wasn't funny in the first place, and carried on WAY TO DUCKING LONG or that whole time travel thing, why did that happen? why was that dude in a cage, he seemed pretty important? and it didn't look like he could just leave....and then he did, and then disipeard in the same episode one or two things i can understand, but it's prelevant thoughout the entire show, it was like it was trying to be episodic and also tell a story and failing at both, don't get me wrong i enjoyed the show...but i wish they had chosen a side insted of flip floping the entire show....and then it just ends anti-climaticly, no big final boss fight, no final mecha and combines all of them into one, just "oop looks like your better people now, guess i'll end it"
Donbro became a show that would be there wiith Gokai, Go-On, Time, Kiva, Build, and recently Jetman as one of my fave tokus. Had me buying Figurarts DonMomotarou and the Memorial Edition DonBlaster. Inoue really did a good job with this series.
The thing that hits me is that this doesn't follow the normal Sentai Formula of being driven by the bad guy's plot, but just focusing on the character dramas. Which funny enough makes this closer to the sillier Kamen Riders.
I enjoyed the show quite a bit but so much felt rushed or incomplete. It really felt like the focus was meant to be on the characters and fun adventure but then there would be really dark stuff, like the Miho/Natsumi storyline or Jirou's story. Both felt like they needed more time to breathe or would have fit better in a slightly more serious story. There were also things that seemed to just get dropped or go nowhere, like the whole thing with the police investigating the Jyuuto and Haruka's aunt being involved with that. Again, though, I enjoyed it. It was just kind of fun and the characters were what really made it. Each of them was unique and entertaining in their own way. Inuzuka and Kijino both felt like they might have benefitted from a more serious tone but were still good. In the end it feels like a bit of a mess but also like it was meant to be. Just an entertaining mess.
6:59 No, no it doesn't. It keeps throwing questions for the audience and providing very few answers. Especially doesn't help that all of these questions are intrinsically tied to the main plot so it's pretty much impossible to forget because you're constantly reminded. My expectations regarding this were low to begin with because Shirakura and Inoue were involved but I can't say I'm not still disappointed by all the dangling plot threads. Where's the humor in not knowing basically anything of the show's backstory exactly?
I enjoyed Donbrothers due to the plot twists. It was different. Not alot of sentai tropes. I did have an issue with murasame. I wish we had answers to who Mother is. The ending fight was eh. That couldve been different and I wish they still talked about Momoi and Jiro relation to the clan more. feel like they didn't go in depth
Despite the inconsistencies of the plot that is directed in donbrothers I personally feel that it’s story line is one that will probably be more memorable then others to me than anything
8:34 MAZAA being a funny meme is a thing, but if the show ends without explaing the "why of the how" something is like this, it's another thing when you watch a show, you can't just make the humor an excuse to not have explanations, it's not funny if things are dragged down and left unexplained when the show ends You can't expect people to agree with your writing just because they watched your show
At first, i watched the show because im curious of the concept and i found it pretty...underwhelming to say the least but i still keep watching. Like 1/4 through the show i realized that i watched the show entirely because of the character and not bcs of the plot. I didnt even care how the show would end, i just watched every week just to see the casts. Imo, they are one of the funnest casts to watch.
Loved the whole show. I was attracted/brought into it with the design of Don Onitaijin alone. Then I bought every mech in the line. This show was great. Overall, would recommmend it to anyone.
I sadly dropped donbrothers around its half because I felt that absolutely nothing was happening, I mean, it was, but didn't felt like story was trying to go somewhere
my problem with don brothers is that i always was expecting to have some story and i just got a silly show if i was expecting a silly show i would have been happy with it
I loved donbrothers for all it represeted and set out to do and it delivered on that perfectly, yes sometimes it felt like the pacing with going too fast or there were too many loose threads but they were resolved in a satisfying way. now I do want to make my own video analysis on donbrothers so I don't know weither to watch yours and beat myself up if I end up copying a significant but small part from you or make my own and see how it compares.
So if i'm gonna simplified Don Brothers so badly, it probably gonna be the Tale of Momotaro & Zenkaiger mixed with some gaming element from OK.KO & Code Lyoko alongside Gumball & Teen Titans Go style of humor and also add a little bit of Discord chaos magic to the mixed to add some flavor. (Oh don't forget Inoe writing style).
i rate this show don/don, truly a show indeed also love Saruhara, his character is often noted as undeveloped, but id rather see it as "consistent", and with a show with so much intertwining a shit having a carefree guy who is all about helping people and nothing else is pretty refreshing actually. competent second in command too
Toshiki Inoue made me invest to care about a dog and a bird having drama between a girl and a peach boy and his boyfriend and an oni doing random shit having a semi-automatic rifle while driving and laughing crazy while the words Speed Demon pops up and many many more, man fucking love Donbrothers

It was alright tbh, my only issue with the writing ( the rest made enough sense as explained) is zenkaiser black. Not only the new form and demeanour but also him knowing everything about well, everything ? And seemingly being the one who actually gave out the morphers

I thought this was the worst Super Sentai show of all time. On the other hand, I enjoyed it a lot as a live action shoujo manga style show where most of the set up is preposterous, things happen with little logic, nothing much is explained, and emotions are manipulated with a sledgehammer.

For example, a "big evil" who would at least appear on screen from time to time, and his Generals who would chew scenery, fight among themselves, and boss the underlings around that would fight the Sentai. Or, an actual purpose for the Donbrothers being there. This felt like a different type of tokusatsu than a Super Sentai. This could have also been called Avataro Exorcists Don Brothers.

I often think about an interview Inoue did (unfortunately don't remember which one) where he says that he continues to write shows like early 90s toku because they're filled with ideas and tropes that people find timeless, and Donbros really proves that to me; it's a lot like older Toku because stuff from older Toku still works
I agree with this and you can see it easily how they prioritize story over fighting like there were a few EPs where they didn't even fight or mech up and tbh there was a lot less fighting in general in donbros compared to other sentai
I watched all of Donbrothers not too long ago, this being my first ever Sentai that i finished, and i pretty much agree with everything in this video ESPECIALLY the part that is not necessary to explain everything For someone like me who is still kind of new to Toku in general (as i've a only watched Kamen Rider for a few years and nothing outside that), this was probably the most batshit insane toku series i've ever watched (so far) and it was such a good and fun time that i feel it's hard to hate, even if some things could have gotten a little bit more focus, like Don Murasame (and i don't mean story wise i just want more Shark shenanigans) and even if it's a bit episodic from time to time, this is still probably the most enjoyable fun series to watch and one of my favorites. and the Music is just pure Gold. I don't take any other opinion Dark Shark Rock my beloved
Episodic makes sense yeah, i don't really rag on it for that since basically every sentai is episodic until a certain episode mark. for me i care like more if the episodic portions can deliver entertainment and donbros delivered with flying colors
A series about nothing? Nah, that was Zenkaiger. This series was very plot driven and had the most character development a Sentai series has had since Gekiranger.
Pretty much, for a series that was somewhat promoted as "saving all of the previous Sentai worlds", it sure didn't have anything to do with any of them, nor does the members know or care about the previous sentais(except for the pirates, who mentions the Gokaigers one time) Even tho Donbrothers having similar gimmicks and also had nothing to do with previous sentais, it didnt matter because the gimmick was "Zenkaiger's carry over stuff", so whatever problem it has is Zenkaiger's job to explain, plus the Hitotsuki was a much better tribute than the Tojitendo MOTW, they shouldve used the Sentai tojigear as MOTW to show them liberating each of their senior sentais, but nope...
No one at Toei said Donbrothers was going to save the series. That was just people on Twitter who have made up in their heads that every Sentai series is going to be the last.

One of the things that DonBrothers did right, it was making Taro human and down to earth but also have a bombastic, off putting and loud character when he’s morphed. Yes, he may act a little wacky and eccentric, but Taro never goes into the grating territory and stupid behavior like how Takaharu and Lucky are.
I've been an avid fan of kamen rider and not much of super sentai but Don Bros really changed that. I watched Revice but it doesn't seem to click with me. Don Bros on the other hand gave me the not overexaggerated humor and just enough to fuel the plot with some laugh and enjoyment. As always, knowing it's a show central to children, many life lessons were put here and there and this one is a bit special because they have the villains have conscience of good deeds and bad deeds, just twisted. All in all don bros gave me the best fun compared to revice in 2022

I sure cared about the flaws, to the point it really turned me off. I just couldn't take it seriously at all. So yeah...I'm sorry, but I'm on the camp of not liking this one.
I really wish I was into donbros. I've heard so many good and interesting things about it. And the human sized mecha forms are such a cool concept to me. And I think most of the suits are awesome or at the very least unique. But it's just black and pink. I can't take the design seriously. And I might have been able to get past that by then the cgi is so awful it hurts my eyes. I would have preferred if they used puppets or something. I really wish it didn't bother me as much as it does but I just can't seem to watch them move around for more than a few seconds
This sentai is one of the most recommendation for beginners because in tokusatsu you have to just accept the logic of the franchise instead of searching for answers

DonBrothers? In the handfuls of times that they do change into other Sentai, they just fight like they normally do. It’s just they look different now. Hell, I recall GolDonMomotaro transforming into TOQ 1gou, while still wearing the armaments of his golden form, which makes transforming into the other Sentai meaningless since he still have the same power.
They shouldn’t have given the ability to change into other Sentai to the DonBrothers and put more effort into the monsters that they were supposed to represent.
I think the Avatar Changes were a toyline related aspect, and Inoue is known for not caring about integrating the toy selling aspects of these shows with the story telling aspect. So, he did the bare minimum with the toyline part.
This is definitely one of the show's weakest aspects, randomly including the ability to transform into other sentai makes no sense conisdering the show is not a love letter like zenkaiger/gokaiger, and as you said they barely even use it making it completely pointless and making you wonder why it was even included in the first place. The donbrothers have also shown that they actually already have their OWN unique set of abilities outside of them (ex: robotaro)

Yeah I’d definitely say donbrothers is very unique in the way it was set up with everything especially, with its unanswered questions link with the Don clan, with sentai gears becoming shurikens o think. And transforming into past respective rangers on colors.
But there still so much to love about it and I can’t explain why that’s, it’s true power and honestly makes me curious.
I agree, sometimes I was a bit annoyed at how episodic the show was, but I enjoyed it a lot anyway. Also, I'm pretty happy this is the first sentai I watched as it was airing.
i get were he's comming from with whe whole "you don't need to explain everything to have something be fun", but....that kinda falls flat when they set up an intresting plot point and then...don't cary though with it, some examples:
the time the Black ranger was captured by the beasticals and it looked like there was gonna be a whole thing to get them back...only for it to be resolved in the next episode with nothing changing beyond continuing a joke that really wasn't funny in the first place, and carried on WAY TO DUCKING LONG
or that whole time travel thing, why did that happen?
why was that dude in a cage, he seemed pretty important? and it didn't look like he could just leave....and then he did, and then disipeard in the same episode
one or two things i can understand, but it's prelevant thoughout the entire show, it was like it was trying to be episodic and also tell a story and failing at both, don't get me wrong i enjoyed the show...but i wish they had chosen a side insted of flip floping the entire show....and then it just ends anti-climaticly, no big final boss fight, no final mecha and combines all of them into one, just "oop looks like your better people now, guess i'll end it"
Donbro became a show that would be there wiith Gokai, Go-On, Time, Kiva, Build, and recently Jetman as one of my fave tokus. Had me buying Figurarts DonMomotarou and the Memorial Edition DonBlaster. Inoue really did a good job with this series.

The thing that hits me is that this doesn't follow the normal Sentai Formula of being driven by the bad guy's plot, but just focusing on the character dramas. Which funny enough makes this closer to the sillier Kamen Riders.
Still enjoyed the ride, even if it felt Directionless at times
I enjoyed the show quite a bit but so much felt rushed or incomplete. It really felt like the focus was meant to be on the characters and fun adventure but then there would be really dark stuff, like the Miho/Natsumi storyline or Jirou's story. Both felt like they needed more time to breathe or would have fit better in a slightly more serious story. There were also things that seemed to just get dropped or go nowhere, like the whole thing with the police investigating the Jyuuto and Haruka's aunt being involved with that.
Again, though, I enjoyed it. It was just kind of fun and the characters were what really made it. Each of them was unique and entertaining in their own way. Inuzuka and Kijino both felt like they might have benefitted from a more serious tone but were still good. In the end it feels like a bit of a mess but also like it was meant to be. Just an entertaining mess.
The story is so good I feel like if this show needs 70 eps+ to explain it, but Toei still have to be stricted for sale xd
6:59 No, no it doesn't. It keeps throwing questions for the audience and providing very few answers. Especially doesn't help that all of these questions are intrinsically tied to the main plot so it's pretty much impossible to forget because you're constantly reminded. My expectations regarding this were low to begin with because Shirakura and Inoue were involved but I can't say I'm not still disappointed by all the dangling plot threads. Where's the humor in not knowing basically anything of the show's backstory exactly?

I enjoyed Donbrothers due to the plot twists. It was different. Not alot of sentai tropes. I did have an issue with murasame. I wish we had answers to who Mother is. The ending fight was eh. That couldve been different and I wish they still talked about Momoi and Jiro relation to the clan more. feel like they didn't go in depth
pretty sure Mother was just another being in Murasame like Torabolt was to Jiro
Donbrothers is a show where it's self aware crazy and we just roll along with it.

8:34 MAZAA being a funny meme is a thing, but if the show ends without explaing the "why of the how" something is like this, it's another thing
when you watch a show, you can't just make the humor an excuse to not have explanations, it's not funny if things are dragged down and left unexplained when the show ends

At first, i watched the show because im curious of the concept and i found it pretty...underwhelming to say the least but i still keep watching. Like 1/4 through the show i realized that i watched the show entirely because of the character and not bcs of the plot. I didnt even care how the show would end, i just watched every week just to see the casts. Imo, they are one of the funnest casts to watch.
Loved the whole show. I was attracted/brought into it with the design of Don Onitaijin alone. Then I bought every mech in the line. This show was great. Overall, would recommmend it to anyone.

my problem with don brothers is that i always was expecting to have some story and i just got a silly show if i was expecting a silly show i would have been happy with it
I loved donbrothers for all it represeted and set out to do and it delivered on that perfectly, yes sometimes it felt like the pacing with going too fast or there were too many loose threads but they were resolved in a satisfying way. now I do want to make my own video analysis on donbrothers so I don't know weither to watch yours and beat myself up if I end up copying a significant but small part from you or make my own and see how it compares.
So if i'm gonna simplified Don Brothers so badly, it probably gonna be the Tale of Momotaro & Zenkaiger mixed with some gaming element from OK.KO & Code Lyoko alongside Gumball & Teen Titans Go style of humor and also add a little bit of Discord chaos magic to the mixed to add some flavor. (Oh don't forget Inoe writing style).

I thought this was the worst Super Sentai show of all time. On the other hand, I enjoyed it a lot as a live action shoujo manga style show where most of the set up is preposterous, things happen with little logic, nothing much is explained, and emotions are manipulated with a sledgehammer.

For example, a "big evil" who would at least appear on screen from time to time, and his Generals who would chew scenery, fight among themselves, and boss the underlings around that would fight the Sentai. Or, an actual purpose for the Donbrothers being there. This felt like a different type of tokusatsu than a Super Sentai. This could have also been called Avataro Exorcists Don Brothers.

I often think about an interview Inoue did (unfortunately don't remember which one) where he says that he continues to write shows like early 90s toku because they're filled with ideas and tropes that people find timeless, and Donbros really proves that to me; it's a lot like older Toku because stuff from older Toku still works
I agree with this and you can see it easily how they prioritize story over fighting like there were a few EPs where they didn't even fight or mech up and tbh there was a lot less fighting in general in donbros compared to other sentai

I watched all of Donbrothers not too long ago, this being my first ever Sentai that i finished, and i pretty much agree with everything in this video ESPECIALLY the part that is not necessary to explain everything
For someone like me who is still kind of new to Toku in general (as i've a only watched Kamen Rider for a few years and nothing outside that), this was probably the most batshit insane toku series i've ever watched (so far) and it was such a good and fun time that i feel it's hard to hate, even if some things could have gotten a little bit more focus, like Don Murasame (and i don't mean story wise i just want more Shark shenanigans) and even if it's a bit episodic from time to time, this is still probably the most enjoyable fun series to watch and one of my favorites.
and the Music is just pure Gold. I don't take any other opinion

Donbrothers is my second favorite Reiwa Sentai after Kiramager. While not good as Kiramager but it's way better than Zenkaiger in my opinion.

A series about nothing? Nah, that was Zenkaiger. This series was very plot driven and had the most character development a Sentai series has had since Gekiranger.
Pretty much, for a series that was somewhat promoted as "saving all of the previous Sentai worlds", it sure didn't have anything to do with any of them, nor does the members know or care about the previous sentais(except for the pirates, who mentions the Gokaigers one time)
Even tho Donbrothers having similar gimmicks and also had nothing to do with previous sentais, it didnt matter because the gimmick was "Zenkaiger's carry over stuff", so whatever problem it has is Zenkaiger's job to explain, plus the Hitotsuki was a much better tribute than the Tojitendo MOTW, they shouldve used the Sentai tojigear as MOTW to show them liberating each of their senior sentais, but nope...
No one at Toei said Donbrothers was going to save the series. That was just people on Twitter who have made up in their heads that every Sentai series is going to be the last.

One of the things that DonBrothers did right, it was making Taro human and down to earth but also have a bombastic, off putting and loud character when he’s morphed. Yes, he may act a little wacky and eccentric, but Taro never goes into the grating territory and stupid behavior like how Takaharu and Lucky are.

I've been an avid fan of kamen rider and not much of super sentai but Don Bros really changed that. I watched Revice but it doesn't seem to click with me. Don Bros on the other hand gave me the not overexaggerated humor and just enough to fuel the plot with some laugh and enjoyment. As always, knowing it's a show central to children, many life lessons were put here and there and this one is a bit special because they have the villains have conscience of good deeds and bad deeds, just twisted. All in all don bros gave me the best fun compared to revice in 2022

I sure cared about the flaws, to the point it really turned me off. I just couldn't take it seriously at all. So yeah...I'm sorry, but I'm on the camp of not liking this one.
I really wish I was into donbros. I've heard so many good and interesting things about it. And the human sized mecha forms are such a cool concept to me. And I think most of the suits are awesome or at the very least unique. But it's just black and pink. I can't take the design seriously. And I might have been able to get past that by then the cgi is so awful it hurts my eyes. I would have preferred if they used puppets or something. I really wish it didn't bother me as much as it does but I just can't seem to watch them move around for more than a few seconds
If power rangers adapted it, black and pink would use spandex suits and fight footage would be original.
