@@NylodeMeijer Thanks! He did such a great job on that photo as well, transformed it completely
I'm sure the last thing the photographer would have imagined was a goddamn MOUNTAIN at the background lmao
GianB Yeah lets put a dragon flying down too since we are creating cartoons and not photos.
The original photo is SO good that I think he realised he can only go crazy, not much to improve on what was already there.
He talks about not messing up with the sky when removing the powerline. Afterwards, he blocked the sky with a HUGE mountain

Ok so we learned something here today. Peter doesn’t like colors.
unless they are yellow/brownish/orange or blue/turqouise/violet ...
At the end I pretty much was like ... yeah, just make everything orange-and-blue again. Kind of surprised he then made the one with the woman on the road black and white xD
When I saw the last pic I thought "omg please, don't kill the violet-blue sky" and then he proceeded to use that preset :'(
It reminded me a lot of a painting by Caspar David Friedrich called "Wanderer above the mist".

@@PeterMcKinnon ahaha no worrys bro, and Iam Sending other one now! same mail?
Wow, the dog one was a really big improvement!
Wow you got some mad skills navigating through those menus. However I think that you completely blew or killed some pictures like the squirrel and the desert lady. I like enhancing and capture the potential of the motive and its surroundings, not picture manipulation. The warmth and livelyness of the squirrel jumping got completely killed with that harsh contrasty looking edit. I wish I had half of your skills running the softwares, but I would never manipulate like that. So to sum up, I love that you teaches out the possibilities and show us what could be done. And also what shouldnt be done. :) So im not hating per say, nor liking this video even though the initiative was dope!
Here I was thinking I was a bad photographer. Now I realise I'm just a bad editor
Same
Sameeeee😂
Yeah. I've met some professional photographers and they always say "50% your shot 50% your editing"
same here, really need to improve photo editing skill XD
I don't even know if I can edit a photo cuz I don't know how to click a good photo 😥😥
I feel like it would be a good thing to describe to your audience the difference between a "photo edit" and a "photo manipulation" or "composite image." Most of your "edits" would actually be considered professional composites. Really great job on them. Changing the green to yellow on the jacket really made such an impact. I just think people learn better when they learn the differences in the options you have to edit and still call something a "photo." I use Davinci Resolve professionally and basically manipulate the heck out of images to suit my taste... but there is a difference between a "color grade" and a "composite" in cinematography. In fact, I feel like im forced to composite so much in the film/video marketing world that I prefer my still images un-composited and only edited as if I were using a film-develop-print workflow vs a digital. Maybe you can address the differences sometime? I think it helps people's process and perspectives to know the different options and why someone might choose to NOT composite a photo. Great video, great compositing and re-touching. Cheers!
Hey buddy would like to make a tutorial on the film develop workflow vs digital,l in DaVinci, it would kick ass 😎 i’ge already subbed

Ysh
Impressive that you managed to take that incredible dynamic squirrel and somehow make it look stuffed.
I wouldnt say stuffed, id say wet, the squirrel looks wet.
Didn’t look dynamic in the first place
What do you mean? The squirrel looked awesome, the only photo he ruined was the dessert-mountain one (not because of the mountain in dessert but because of the blending, he added way too much fog and it made it look super bad) but the squirrel looked wayyyyy better than the original.
“He was in south america”
*adds northern light effect*
CustoMish 😂😂😂 He took out all the blues!
Just some constructive criticism: the photo which the mountain came from had its light source coming from the right side of the photo. The original photo has the light source from the left. So in the final edit, there are 2 different sources of light.
i noticed that as well
I guess one can flip the mountain pic and then apply it to the original
Notices it to
Plus adding a mountain is imbecilic, you forgot that
“There was this old woman carrying these groceries in the middle of a snow storm, so I took a picture of her” lmao

I feel like some people in the comments need to chill.
This video is not about him making the photos "better" or anything.
He's just showcasing a lot of amazing pictures from all over the world and then has fun editing them and giving them different vibes and expressions.
If you think he "ruined" the images, he didn't. He just had fun and made them his own and there's nothing wrong with that.
There's also nothing wrong with having an opinion, as art is subjective.
This was a really fun video btw, it just suddenly popped up in my suggested feed.
Great job, my dude.
Please remember that those are just opinions and they need to be respected. I havent seen any comments that werent just constructive criticism and also didnt complement the artist afterwards. Obviously there are some immature people but that shouldn't take away everyones overall rather constructive mindsets
Geode Please remember that the person said that there was nothing wrong with having an opinion, and you can see it in their comment. And you’re right, there was mostly only constructive criticism, but it’s unnecessary now that he said in his main comment that he realized his mistakes. People don’t need to continue the criticism when it has already been mentioned countless times.
@Jeanine Usagi so trueee !!!!
that doesn't mean we can't criticize him
Yeah, BUT, you can't put a mountain like this in a desert like wtf ufho8sdhsdgy8
PM has a style. It's his. It's an artist doing what artists do. If he left them alone it would be any good photographers shot. I think he was just giving them his flare so not to be any other person with a camera. Personally I love his style. That's why I watch. BTW He also has millions of followers so I can't be alone here. Keep it up Peter and thanks.
I agree, sir.
ANNOUNCEMENT!! My biggest film of the year highlighting my the best Drone shots of Northwest British Columbia, Canada is going live tomorrow! Go to my channel and set a reminder so you don't miss it!
Yeah it’s subjective, for some people contrasty and bright photos don’t match with their style but others like it more simple👍🏻
This whole last segment of the video is my new favourite thing to watch when I am sad or bored haha! Loved the video! :)
DUDE! You should try making "Different Editors edit the same photo"
That'd be sick
The best thing about this video is showcasing photography as an art form that can be done from just in camera to full edit in LR.
I thought the best thing was when it ended.
@Vo-Gus Prospecting ayyy I’m surprised to find you here, love your gold videos
I don't get it being an art form being able to use a program that someone else has created to manipulate images instead of creating their own. A camera takes an image of what's in front of it. A program can manipulate this image. It can take years to create an actual masterpiece, ten minutes in lightrooms, photoshop etc creates a five second "wow" then its forgotten. Don't misunderstand me, the images created from manipulation are really rather good to see, however they will not last in the mind.
*sees old lady carrying heavy groceries in a blizzard
“This’ll be a great picture”
I get that it's personal preference, but to me it just kinda looks like hes a putting a cliche snapchat filter on most of them
It depends of your style if you like it or not 👍🏻
I liked them all but I do feel like adding a whole mountain was a bit much, but I guess it just depends on your preference also the squirrel too, but I loved all the other ones
I didn't like the squirrel edit, beacuse I feel like that's the type of photo you don't even edit, and I didn't like the mountain because it felt like too much because of the colors, it wasn't a desert mountain but good video tho :)
At first I thought the squirrel one was better left untouched, but I actually loved what he managed to do with it.
The shade of the mountain is in the wrong side too. I didnt like that one
the only thing i didn't like is that he gave the foreground too much sharpness, and it really took away your focus from the subject. if he brought the color up, but left that blur, the squirrel would be more of the subject of the shot.
For me both versions looks good
I totally agee, but I feel like the first mountain was better after he edited. The desert mountain looks totally fake
Having a super fun time going through a ton of your old videos, since I just found the channel. Wanted to say great job on what you’re created here!

Its crazy how much of photos is editing. I have just started learning about editing, and these videos are so fascinating to watch! It is truly subjective though isn't it
It is
Photography is so subjective. In my view the majority of people way over-edit in post. They spend more time at home trying to correct obvious mistakes than getting it right in-camera at time of taking the shot. Bringing back detail in shadows and slightly increasing contrast and increasing/decreasing saturation are normal to boost an already good image. But sometimes, such as Pete's vision of transforming the 12:56 original into a heavily edited 14:00 image, actually turns a decent shot into a bad one. Also the very heavy crop choices, such as in the landscape shots, really seem at odds with good composition as well as losing image quality. The complete changes of colour (and often unneeded changes) in my view is more akin to painting than photography. But when all is and said and done, the way we capture the original image or edit them, is all down to personal choice. And as Peter mentioned, this was how "he" likes to edit images, so was the correct choices for himself... and above all, he was having fun! Enjoy your photography everyone. :)
U sir, spoke out my words!
Yeah, definitely questioned the cropping choices, especially for landscape shots. I don't think I've ever seen him crop his landscapes, so I wonder why he chose to alter other's shots like that.
As you said though, subjective.
Definitely agree with you! Although I do edit a lot in Lightroom, I always have a problem with the idea of "adding" something to the image. A sad reality is that many photographer nowadays edit only with an Instagram-based target audience, where edit-heavy and tightly cropped portraits are kings...
It's the social media (Instagram) 4x5 crop. Used to maximize the viewers' smartphone screen.
Well done dude, those edits looked sick. And great photos from all you talented peeps!
Yes! Lovely edits :)
I like how with almost every photo, "It's too blue." Why you gotta treat my favorite color that way?
18:50 That flare had no business being there
Peter! you did a really great job on that composite image. I just want to suggest flipping the mountain on its y axis since the shadow of the woman and shadows on the mountains don't match up. other that that I would be convinced. great work for real. awesome video!
I was looking for someone who noticed it too lol
Same haha
Ditto. Did not think it needed the mountain at all. Too much competing for the eye. But the shadows....yeah that was setting off my OCD.
I like the implementation of the mountain in the background but you should have flipped it so that the shade is falling in the same direction. But who knows, maybe there are 2 suns in that alternate universe of yours ;)
hahahha hilarious
I finally found the "infamous" mountain-in-a-desert video haha!! Nice!! Great to see how creators like Peter evolve, improve, and mature!!
There were a couple a photos that I wouldn’t edit in the way you did but I respect that you have a unique style to the point where I think I could pick out a photo from a group that was edited by you
I stuck until the end of the video. Was not disappointed haha!
Putting an extra sun and an icy mountain in hot, dry flatland? Really 😂😂😂
Ikr
i mean...you do find such places in iceland and mongolia :p
whenever i feel like my photos are all starting to be edited a little the same - using the same presets and making fairly similar tweaks
first thing i do is take a break and come back to them later on - maybe make some changes and re-edit the last couple i had done
after that i wonder if i maybe should invest in some new presets 🤷🏻♂️
but before that, i come and watch all of these for inspiration .. sometimes McKinnon's approach gives me an idea about one of mine in particular - or maybe he'll do something and i can't help but wonder what my photograph would look like under these manipulations
with that said, i have his preset packs open in a tab because at some point i really will need some
Every time he says thanks so much for your photos after he’s done editing it I think the videos over
