  • An easy way to safely remove the finish models that have an acrylic paint job. Instead of throwing your plastic models away, save them, remove the errors, restore and repaint like new!
    Watch how I take a model that has a bad decal job and remove the paint and decals with Oven Cleaner (Easy-Off, Unscented). This method brings your model to a near factory finish (plastic).
    It also does not remove the glue I used which is a combo of Tamiya cement, CA and Plastruct. You can see the bumpers are still glued on.

    I used this method on a hood with multiple coats of paint and clear coat too. With a little effort after soaking overnight, I can say this was a total success. Thanks

    I thought I better add my 2 cents because it would warn others about what I did. I used easy off oven heavy duty cleaner super fast 5 minutes clean. I did exactly what you did and before I put it away I double checked it. Luckily I did because it stripped it really quick and if I had waited 24 hours it would have turned into mush. I did get all the paint off enough to repaint it the way I wanted it. I didn't want to over do it with the oven cleaner though just in case it wreck the body. It all came out nice in the end so yay for that. Love from New Zealand.

    This video saved my custom 1961 Impala lowrider model build, I used a newer paint than what I’m used to and when I clear coated it the clear reacted to my pearl airbrush paint job and caused the paint to bubble up weirdest thing I’ve seen and I’ve been building models for many years but this works simple and fast.!

      Glad to hear it worked for you.. 61 bubbletop is my true dream car.. I own a 63 conv. and 68 custom in real life but the 61 still eludes me.. ;) hopefully you get that pearl back on and looking killer... have fun!

      Sure Rock Co. Models I did notice tho it will not remove the primer base coat at all so some remnants of paint stains in the primer remains not thick enough to effect new paint so I’ll re primer it before re airbrushing the Impala.!

      We actually have lots up here in Vancouver, Canada too, lots of clubs up here but obviously nowhere near the amount the US has down there. Not sure about the primer tho, it should take everything off, longer you let it soak, the better...

      Sure Rock Co. Models I got it repainted it looks great I let it sit overnight it removed all the color paint but definitely didn’t even soften the primer, some bits of paint were stained in the primer but didn’t effect anything kind of weird it didn’t even soften the primer base but I re airbrushed it a dark blue metallic pearl fade from the top to a slightly lighter blue fade for the sides looks crazy in the sunlight.!

    It is a little harsh on rigid plastic but not TOO noticeable but it does take stubborn paint off much quicker than super clean. Super clean does work really well and is not harsh on plastic whatsoever. I just used it on a plastic model of mine.

    Tried this on a body I had (horribly) painted with some spray paint. Most of it came off but I noticed my can of Easy-Off was old so I’ll try it out with a fresh can and see the difference.

      Sometimes it needs to be done twice. I also noticed do not leave the easy off on the model for more than a day or two otherwise it just sticks to the model, which can be removed but still, its annoying forgetting and coming back to start all over.

    Hi.. just wanted to add my two cents.. I used easy off for years and every body told me use super clean use super clean... I always rolled my eyes. I finally used super clean and man they were right. Even removing chrome it takes off that yellow varnish. try it... you will love it.

    Would it work on a GW model with heavy body acrylic paint?

    • @surerockco.models3452
      @surerockco.models3452  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It should, I would suggest trying it on a test piece. Only chemical I have found resistant to this are items sprayed with acetone. Then, iso is required.

    i tried this and it didnt touch the paint what so ever. What did I do wrong?

      Soaking in brake fluid also works. It won't harden the plastic either.

    Did you run into any problems getting the new primer and new basecoat to stick to the model after you used the Oven Cleaner to remove the original paint ?

    • @Fitch93
      @Fitch93 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I did not have any issues with those after doing this to an aircraft kit. Primer went on great and the paint went on even better. Paint laid on better than the original paint job, which orange peeled on me, this one didn't.

    What about Tamiya Laquer ?

    • @surerockco.models3452
      @surerockco.models3452  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mr Mike, I did this video just before Tamiya Laquer was introduced in my area. It should work, I would do I test model or piece of plastic before continuing to be sure.

    Can I do this to my airbrush

    • @surerockco.models3452
      @surerockco.models3452  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would assume to clean it? That is a fascinating question, I don't see why it wouldn't work.. Maybe if you have an old airbrush or something similar, it would be worth a shot and let us know the results!

    • @surerockco.models3452

      It is oven cleaner so in my opinion it is ok for inside however because it is removing paint, I feel comfortable with it in the garage.

  • @04swimbeav

    Using easy off oven cleaner doesn't harm the glue used which is good, but will it harm clear plastic parts such as windows on an airplane?

    • @surerockco.models3452
      @surerockco.models3452  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I believe it would fog clear parts up, no harm in trying on spare parts first tho!

      @@surerockco.models3452 Thank you! I'll definitely give it a shot on some spares!
