Child Killer Realized He Is Arrested 18 Years Later

- On the night of May 13, 1997, Shannon Hatfield tucked her 8-year-old daughter, Kirsten, into bed, never anticipating the tragedy that awaited them. The following morning, Kirsten had vanished, making every parent's worst nightmare come true. As if it wasn’t haunting enough for her parents, chilling traces were found in the family's backyard- her torn underwear stained with blood and distressing blood traces on her bedroom windowsill. For years, her disappearance remained one of the most haunting unsolved mysteries. However, in 2015, the case saw a shocking twist. Anthony Palma, a 56-year-old man living merely two doors away from the Hatfields, emerged as a prime suspect. But he wasn't just any neighbor. For years, rumours were circulated about Palma's creepy behavior, especially towards children. Disturbingly, his blood perfectly matched the samples from Kirsten's window and underwear, leading to his arrest.
Although he was serving a life sentence without parole, true justice was served about 4 years ago when his cellmate killed him. RIP Kirsten.

This man was reliving it. He remembers everything.
I found his body language fascinating. At the start of the interview, he was open and quite animated. He constantly adjusted in his chair so that he was facing both detectives as he answered the questions. But then when he wasn't getting any feedback from the silent detective, he shifted around and mostly addressed the speaking detective.
As the questions got more uncomfortable, he drew his feet further and further back, until they were tucked underneath him, with his toes pointing down in what looked like an unnatural position. Then when they reveal the DNA evidence, he clasps his hands tightly together, almost in a pleading gesture. Then when the silent detective accuses him directly, he shifts and looks like he wants to get up, but then swivels back round.
Glad they finally caught the monster, and glad he was ended in prison.
I literally always sit with my toes drug behind me. You can’t find someone guilty strictly on body language, because not everyone acts the same. He also leans forward multiple times with his hands in front which usually means he’s open to conversation and ok with the situation. Also cops and DA’s have been using false dna or just planted evidence to close cases and lock innocent people up. Thousands have literally been found guilty because of DNA just to be found innocent decades later because the dna was planted

I’m sure people can be neighborly and friendly. But as a guy i barley remember the names of my little sisters friends on some of the basketball teams I used to coach. this dudes got the entire neighborhood kids names and has them on tap 10+ years later creepy lmao.
Yeah I thought that also. Seemed to know all of their names in a creepy way.
I hate it when people say “I could care less” when what they’re trying to say is “I couldn’t care less”.
For the record both are the same, either is negative saying you could care less because it's caring less at the moment. And couldn't care less as in maximum uncaring. You got a long life to go if this bothers you

I also wanna know what he did to his gf's daughter who he said was at his house a lot..
He’s giving way too many unrelated details about his life for a man trying to look calm and innocent.
I'm fascinated by how someone whose guilty af can just sit there like that without absolutely freaking out. I feel guilty just being accused of something that I didn't even do.
Your body forces you to be calm in situations like this

Even people you know well, trust your kids reactions to them. If your kid isn’t comfortable around them, or worse, tells you they did something to harm the child….LISTEN and believe.

How does it take the police 18 years to find the neighbor's DNA all major pieces of evidence?
Advances in technology
DNA wasn’t widely used, readily available, or very affordable for a long time. Plus, it takes quite a bit of time for cold cases to get reviewed, if they ever do.
That's an interrogation technique.
Forensics weren't as advanced back then.
It's possible they had it all along. But that he'd never had his DNA in the system before this. Happens all the time. Crimes solved years after the fact because the offenders DNA had been recently added to the database.
What if he didn't do it, and the blood was planted there by someone else who used a tissue with blood from him blowing his nose? After checking with the parents, the first people they would look into would be neighbors and relatives, it would be a poor decision for him to choose a target so close. If they found the body in his yard, it might even point further toward someone else trying to frame him , as why wouldn't he leave the corpse in a nearby body of water or deep in the woods? He's definitely guilty. His body language showed it the entire time, and he didn't really try to defend himself either. He's just a coward. He couldn't admit it because he was afraid of what might happen to him if he did.
Is he trying to imply that the mother does meth & c@cain, as well as leaving the child home alone? It says more about him than anything. KARMA GOT HIM! RIP sweet girl.
Might of made him think the girl was an easy hit because of the mom's drug abuse....
I can't help but feel like that whole line about the drugs was "listen officer, you know who Those People are"
26:11 possibly the most guilty response when being called a child killer
I was a busy body talked to everyone, " I didn't know those people at all , lol
How was he not even looked at before. Seems he should’ve been high on a list of suspects.
Probably was,, but there was a lack of irrefutable proof.. Only since around 2012 has DNA become so sophisticated and as time goes on it will be become faster and easier to process. Cold cases like these are being solved now at a rapid rate.

It doesn't bare thinking about what he did to that innocent child...💔 I can't even imagine what the parents are living with... I'm so sorry to them ..💔 I'm so glad that the inmate give him the best sort of justice....👍🇬🇧
She'd be about 34 years old today.
Poor girl fought her killer. Allowing him to be found. Rip
I lived there, about three houses down, when this all came through. Yes they did have back hoes, helicopters, dug through his garage... What a nightmare it was.
Did they ever check his fishing spot
No you didn’t 😂😂
So they suspended him back then? Why was that U think? Where other neighbors investigated also?
So you where his next door neighbor?
Never said Hi or Bye, but you brutally murdered their Beautiful innocent child.
If you killed someone why the fuck ever talk to police without an attorney
Even if you’re innocent get a lawyer!
He was confident in his abilities to present himself as a good guy, as he'd successfully done for many years prior. Cop shows like Law & Order always tell us that only dirtbags lawyer up; "If you're innocent then you've got nothing to hide".
If someone told me, if I were innocent, that my blood was at the crime scene the first thing out of my mouth would be is “we are going to retake a dna swab”. He never suggests that.

His house? I seen multiple comments saying the same thing. That LE tore his house up looking for the girl
Were they looking for the body way back then ??? How did he get away from law enforcement so long??
This was a good interrogation. Umfortunately Tony Parma didn't bend. It's awful that a child murderer has no remorse. He went to his grave like that. RIP little Kirsten. 😢
@ericstuff1023And likely had some of what he did before he killed her done to him too.
He would never tell them. Killers don't usually do that
It was very smart to get him to say over and over that he was never on their property at any time. It means he can't later have any plausible explanation for why his DNA was there. If he said he'd mowed their lawn that week then he could easily say he cut his finger on something in the yard and may have put his hand up against that window for a moment. He could even say he grabbed the pair of underwear off the clothesline to wrap around his wound.
I think he said he was on/in the property when the previous owner lived there, but not when the victims family lived there. What surprised me was that he was so certain that her body would not be found on the property. (Is it because he's innocent or is it because he knows where her body is and that it's not in his yard). With no body though, I'm surprised they got a conviction. DNA evidence is not as strong as people believe it is. Many innocent people have ended up in prison, because of DNA evidence "proving" them guilty, but then later the convicted was able to prove him/her self innocent. (Either because the DNA was not the proof that the DA claimed it to be, because someone made a mistake and mishandled the DNA/evidence or that they cross contaminated DNA evidence, or even because someone planted the DNA at the scene). Like in the OJ Simpson case, the blood at the scene was believed to be planted by someone, because it was not pure blood, but it contained a chemical used in blood collection bags to stop blood from coagulating.
im curious to know how and why his blood was on the window and on her panties. why he would have been bleeding in the first place. what would be messed up is if he didnt do it and someone planted his blood there just to make a case or to set him up.
@@deucedeuce1572thank you for being you. This is literally the only comment not jumping to conclusions and actually offering information. And I agree with you. They keep saying they have his DNA but they also say it's his blood. Which one is it?

How evil he is shows when he’s gleeful that they won’t find her in his backyard, telling them he had laughed about it. It gave him a sense of power and control over them, even as he knew he was going to prison. His finding a way to savor that, at a time like that, shows you how truly wicked he is.
I like how the officers didn't tip their hand. Made him feel comfortable, let him talk read him Miranda, let him talk more .. asked questions. Evil POS.
21:16 what a sick man. The little girl he murdered and hid, he let her uncle stay with him while the uncle was looking for his missing niece. And he thinks he’s a great guy for it.
he also saw her mom looking for her daughter a few days after and gave her money for gas. fucking vile
Just got the chill down my spine 😢don’t ever let your children go to someone else home even if you don’t think they are dangerous 😢just listening to him talk you realized he seems like you’re everyday neighbor and he seems normal but you don’t ever trust anyone else around your kids 😢we can’t trust anyone around your kid I recall how we had a older couple who had ice cream bar and soda each time we went over there they would offer it to us 😮but I’m sure convinced that they were up to something else but I was a kid and our friends were always going back and forth between there house and our parents home 😢I hope that nothing happened to anyone else I knew in our neighborhood
How old were they? If they were real geezers it was probably innocent. But if they were a day under 70 (and a 1980s 70 at that), it’s definitely suspect.
He was cool and calm and denied any involvement. I actually started believing they may have the wrong person but DNA doesn’t lie. He denied it til the end. Monsters live next to us all. Some don’t stick out as much as others. If neighbors say he was creepy he probably was. Luring children for food etc. His chicken story didn’t sit well. And to befriend the mom and give her gas money to go out looking for her child knowing she would never be found. 😢
I felt the same way. I was waiting for him to accuse the investigator of lying about having DNA evidence, or to claim that the DNA evidence was faked. The fact that he didn't suggest either is kind of telling. He knew it was legit.
DNA doesn't lie. But lab technicians and investigators can and sometimes do lie. A Texas state forensic lab technician was giving false positive results so that prosecutors could get convictions. Also, in at least one murder case, the police planted DNA evidence to insure a conviction.
We have been told to believe DNA is unquestionable. Is that true? I have no idea.
@@boathousejoed1126 Definitely not. The DNA they have is his but there is of course the possibility of contamination while testing or something not being entered correctly in the report. For example, when they coded the DNA to the computer file, perhaps they put his DNA in the file related to what was found on the underwear, etc. If there was a mistake it was something along these lines. I've no doubt the DNA was his where there is some doubt might be if that DNA was actually on the window/underwear. There is room for error in the documentation process is basically what I'm saying. As a defense attorney it would be their job to criticize the process used and potentially test the underwear again.
yeah no his blood or any dna should not be on any window of that childs home.....they didnt get the dna from the sky lol @@brianwilson7624

How could it take 18 years, if he was a "known creep" and lived doors away? You couldn't make it up.
He was such a "proud" landscaper..anyone ever check his yard?
It astounds me how many parents, even today, place thwir kids in a 1st floor bedroom without securing the windows. Our daughters room was upstairs. No one could reach her room without my hearing so. Our room was next to hers & thw stairs ran straight to both rooms. Any window would've made a loud noise had anyone attempted to open them. After we moved, I made sure her room was safe. Her furniture made it difficult had anyone attempted entry. And, I had the ears of a bat. If she moved, I usually knew about it.
I understand how you feel, totally valid. But I don't feel the same way about parenting. I believe that in the end the neurosis stemming around kidnapping would be more detrimental to my family in the end. It could lead to helicopter parenting and just overparenting in general. For me a security camera would be enough. My son is now 16 and it's a different world now even from 10 years ago. Thanks for sharing.
@@knightsofneeech Yeah, you don't want to be overprotecting or neurotic... but that don't mean you should not be security minded. It is the job of the parents (and especially the father) to keep his family safe... and to leave a child completely unprotected in that kind of situation can make the father partly responsible for what happens. That is why parents don't just have the Right to bear arms, but the Duty to do so. It is an absolute responsibility, and even if the law should/would never recognize a parent to be responsible for such a terrible crime committed by another man, that don't mean that God won't recognize a fathers responsibility or negligence (or dereliction of duty).
Wow, nice that very smart to do..thank you for your hints..
@@deucedeuce1572 I hear your opinion which is the opinion of a lot of gun owners for safety and dedication to family. It's valid as well of course. But my opinion is of the peaceful-mindedness. Statistically 0.001% of the world carries protective firearms yet the world goes on. A lot of countries without gun availability and laws do very well. Poor countries aren't an exception.
@@knightsofneeech Yeah, then go to live in those places where "the world goes on" and tell me how they are. Except a few most recent nations that banned firearms, the VAST majority are socialist hell-holes that you would NEVER even consider visiting. I think your ignorance of the Entire World controls your opinions. Besides, do you think you hear about each murder than happens in these nations? Do you hear of all the cases of rapes and robberies? Do you hear of all the cases of government abuse, forced incarcerations, experiments, assaults, torture, secret democides and other crimes against humanity? If you think this way, there is no other explanation than solid, deep, long-term, willful ignorance.
I've seen this interview a few times before. It's noticeable that whenever the detectives ask him about Shannon and Kirsten he goes off on a long spiel about how he didn't know them, how he never went over there. How he didn't even know how long they had lived there. How whenever he came from work in those days he went fishing. How he went fishing a lot. How he often went fishing a lot and stayed out at the pool all night... all that in response to did you know Shannon or Kirsten.
I bet in his mind he thinks he's waltzing this interview but I also think he knew what was coming. The way he tucks his feet under the chair and clasps his hands make him look like he knows the train is coming straight at him and is going to hit him hard.
The areas where he used to fish is probably where he dumped the body of the poor child.
I can't stand when content creators add clips of things that are not true to the story. Like the picture at the start of Shannon and Kirsten with red arrows pointing to each, even though neither is Shannon or Kirsten. You don't need to add filler scenes for us. It'll be a lot less work for you and a lot less distracting for the viewers.
Ngl, that’s felt 😭 like I appreciate the sentiment but it stops me from feeling as immersed as before because the visuals aren’t at all related.
My only wish is that the inmate who killed him would have forced him to reveal where Kirsten’s body was first.
He also referred to Kirsten as the kid, which is distancing language. That’s a red flag.
It's sad that he won't tell them where that baby is how people can do this boggles the mind.
