Another good use of autoeq is to tune your iem's to different reviewers targets (squigs have lot of different reviewer and their targets) and see whos preferences aligns with yours the most. So you know that if your preferences align with a reviewer, then that reviewer should carry a bit more weight in your decisions. Audio is subjective after all, we all have different ears and different tastes. Also you can try to use different reviewers measurements (as you can jump between reviewers in squigs), because they use different techniques and also there is some variance in the iems. So using one set of measurements might sound better for you specifically than another.
Thank you Gizaudio. I’ve used the AutoEQ feature before but didn’t know about the going over $6000 hz rule. Now I know why those attempts sounded weird.
It seems like the more videos you post the more respect I have. Youre doing a good job of adding value to this community and especially those getting into it. Just to expand on the inaccuracies using auto eq: One thing to keep in mind when using auto EQs is IEMs are tuned using physical methods that change the sound AFTER the driver/speaker produces it. If it cuts the output of a range of frequencies by 1/3 it’ll always do so even with EQ applied. In that case you could be listening at 90dB (for easy math, that’d be hearing damage loud) without eq then add 6dB using an EQ and you’ll end up with 92dB rather than the 96dB you’d be expecting. I’m not saying auto EQ isn’t an incredibly useful tool just that you can’t assume you’re getting the predicted frequency response out of your IEMs. You’re just changing the strength of the electrical signal going into the IEM.
Thanks man! And yes, I agree with everything here. I believe there are also other factors in play that affects the effectiveness of EQ as well. Might have to do an "Intermediate level" EQ video in the future.
Late reply, but need to nitpick here. The point you're making is true, that EQ interacts nonlinearly with physical tuning methods. However, decibels is a log scale. Reducing the amplitude of a sound by 1/3%, as in your example, is equivalent to cutting 1.76 dB. The real reason that you can't just "add 1.76 dB and have perfect sound", is that the frequency response of a speaker depends on the volume (this is nonlinear distortion).
Thanks Timmy, this is actually a very informative video, miles better than "just use eq, lol" If you didn't, I was going to mention problems with eq and auto eq but you did a wonderful job there. If you allow me I'd like to add a few things. Wavelet app don't work with DAPs that bypass androids own equalizer/mixer, at least my iBasso DX300 doesn't and from what I learned there is no way to make it work for now. Secondly I use different gear, iems and headphones all the time and also review gear. While using equalizer apo there were times I forgot to change my eq settings and think like: "wait a minute this doesn't sound right", but that's a me thing :D Oh yes, if you use pc to listen to music, equalizer apo is very very good.

I'd say that the true adventure (and awful sometimes) is actually tuning treble. If you're long enough into this, you'll know how to do it. And my tips as just a casual user that likes to fiddle around and see if things work out would be: anything in the treble region must have high Q values when you apply any gain, or else it'll bust out the entire region just by slight adjustments; You'll need to apply a *lot* of adjustments to get it ''right'', and the best way to tell if it's sounding somewhat cohesive and natural to you, is to... listen carefully, with tracks that you can clearly test this region. SO: use Q values above 2, avoid +10dB gains, only a few PK's won't do it probably - use it to abundance, and, listen carefully with appropriate audio to see if you're not messing things up. DON'T BELIEVE THE GRAPH, if you get to a fine treble tuning but the graph looks like mount everest, don't worry (as long as there's nothing clipping, or else you'll need to pre-amp with a negative volume to your highest peak on the FR). Usually EqualizerAPO tells and prevents clipping from happening. I can't say the same for Wavelet, it doesn't even translate treble well.

Another IEM that takes EQ very well, is the BQEYZ Spring 2. I've bumped the lows by 12db(!!!), and it hasn't fallen apart. Another EQ tip from the music production world, is to cut the lower mids by a few db, especially if your sound is a bit boomy or muddy. This creates a bit of separation between the bass region and the upper mids, and our ears have an easier time deciphering musical notes.

wow soo many good uploads this December keep it up, I've learned how to EQ now.
any thoughts for Hiby MSEB?
been using this wavelet app since 20221 and been very useful for my other crafty iems 😅. now i can create more sound profile. thanks Timmy 😇
Great video man❤❤❤❤❤
Great auto eq overview!
Man, that's a present and I thank you. Didn't know of Squig.
The 15 usd quarks dsp already do the harman target eq to such an accurate degree that some reviewers are saying it either competes or downright destroys other iems waaay above the 15usd price point. Would be interesting to know your thoughts.
@@scorpioassmodeusgtx1811 Ehh I don't know, as far as I know there is no objective way to measure resolution, soundstaging or imaging in iems aside from rather subjective takes that change from person to person, regardless, I think more people should pay more attention to the incoming dsp earphones from moondrop as I'm sure it will become a trend for other brands next year.
bro I thank you so much for the video, I am relatively new to the hobby, and your video is a godsend. Currently I am using Blessing 3, Kiwi Ear Cadenza, and Raptgo Hook X HBB paired with Fiio M11s. I autotuned my Blessing 3 low freq to Dusk 2 (love you Crin) and mid freq to S8 because I crave so much the extra bass on Blessing 3. Now I can use Blessing 3 as my daily driver. (btw I use Dunu S&S L as eartips because it is the best eartips in the universe, I have a lot of expensive eartips, you name it I have it).
I cannot order Dusk 2 in Indonesia. My local audio shop said Moondrop prohibits Dusk 2 to be sold in Indonesia (what is your problem Moondrop???), but at least now I can taste it through Wavelet autotune
Nice EQing guidance’s ✌️peace
Great explanation of the Eq part... Clear af!! 😅
Good double flange eartips for me are spinfit cp220 and cp240. Triple flange tips i have tried are too deep for me and they start irritating/itching the inside of my ear canal
Eq is the reason why I look for flatter gear.
It's way easier to add some bass than cleaning up a messy bloated one.
Try 7th Acoustic Proxima. It's on my squig site
@@Gizaudio it measures like a sennheiser hd560s.
Why this model is not reviewed?
It's a competitor to etymotic er2se.
They can be used as reference for many things. I'm not even mentioning about its usage as monitoring. If it's a solid resin body it would seal perfectly. I'm saying if because I can't even find a picture of it.
Are these guys focused on local markets?
while it's easy to just add a low shelf filter, i'd rather cut bass than add distortion. it's easy to cut bass with graph tool anyway
Thanks a lot bro for this phenomenal video 🤩💯💯👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I think you should do a list of of affordable to about 600.00 of the best headphones that respond to eq the best.
Been using Wavelet App since last night... And saw this video today... Tried the pre set Auto EQs on my OH500, S6rui... And then the Tin P1... Wow... Now there's a newfound love for my P1.
I been tweaking my Moondrop Aria Snow
Elysian Annihilator 2021(20k) auto EQ quite good, 2nd is auto EQ Mangird Xenns Top(6k) if i just want more bass for aria SE.
Etymotic: "did someone say deep"
I hate EQ.
Because, It is troublesome to change the EQ every time I change earphones or headphones.😑
can't you make presets?
@@gizmotis I'm troublesome to press presets button.😓
Same, EQ just ruins my listening experience and it doesn't fix many things. Plus it's more fun to own several budget IEMs with different sound signatures.
I tried EQ, but I always felt I was messing something up, or something wasn't right, or I could further improve something... This is very distracting, I can't enjoy music this way.
I got KZ ZSN Pro and QKZ x HBB, I tried EQ ing QKZ x HBB to make it brighter by manually hearing and going thru sliders. The result is amazing, it sound fuller and natural but also got the airyness. Compared to my ZSN Pro it already sound bright, I wanted to make it smoother and less sibilance
Can you share your EQ settings for QKZ x HBB? I find it lacking in the treble area
@@cediegarcia2585 I use HiBy music player, I just tune the MSEB actually, not really touched the EQ it self. I find it easier to use MSEB. If you also use HiBy music player then maybe I can share how I tune it
@@jeeewhyyypheee i'm using Hiby too, can you share it please? I wanna try it too
@@lrvan No problem, here's my tune. Just align it from top to bottom.
-15, -5, -5, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, +15
It basically just reduce the bass making the attack a little bit faster, and adding 10k more air. Note, here I use sony wide bore tip on my QKZ x HBB to make the sound stage bit wider, that's all. I wanted to maintain the easy listening character
@@jeeewhyyypheee thank you! will try this with my moondrop tips.
I've always used rub your fingers by your ears. If you can hear them you don't have a good seal. If you don't you have a good seal. Easy.
Wow really does it work with cheap iems like tangzu wan'er
Moondrop spring tips, best tips.
very important, but make sure the autoEQ slider is to the right! Also apply preamp close to or slightly over the maximum peak; you can do that with the channel balance setting (also make sure that slider is to the right!)
Yes, yes, EQ. EQ. EQ your headphones guys. Just do it.
Can you do something going over treble sometime? It seems to be a region which everyone is picky about, and the differences seem on graphs don't feel very obvious and intuitive the way bass to upper midrange is
Thank you for the good tips 👍
CP360 max diameter is 13mm, while S&S doesn't go over 11.5mm, how come? And S&S is only a smidge deeper, how do they manage to provide better isolation? Something about the material?
i'm surprised how closed 20-6000 hz between wan'er s.g and em6l. and this eq made cancelled my desire for hexa. my wan'er s.g soooo much fun to hear. thanks for this knowledge.
Another top tip is to remove any ear wax you might have
Simple and helpful video!
It's not about having money to spend on 2k iem, it's about if it's a smart decision or not. In vast majority of cases it is not considering the amount of money amd gain on sound quality, life of those iem and their value etc etc.
Nice vidéo !! Can this be used to watch movies on computer or mobile phone ? Or just for listening music ?
Do these Dunu tips work with the Dusk? The nozzle is slightly bigger than the supported range I believe.
May I add TKZK wave as well? It's bass response is linear and could serve well to those who want a hybrid in this price range
This creates a bit of separation between the bass region and the upper mids, and our ears have an easier time deciphering musical notes.
this actually help tried Z1R EQ to my Moondrop KATO Gold/Brass with Azla Eartips and made it sound better or enjoyable to listen to music
wow you explain it so fast, the how to eq part i mean...cant follow for dear life
What is good? TIN C2 Mech warrier or Tangzu Waner or Salnotes zero
i can't use wavelet on my old phone , it doesn't support .. i use poweramp music player , happy customer for it .. and play with parametric eq .. yes , it worth for minor fixing ..
hi timmy , any recommendations for almost dead flat iem for studio mixing ?
can that wavelet change the sound when playing TH-cam also? or only affects downloaded song in the playlist
Im curious too.
Use Legacy Mode
9:12 where can I buy a 20$ Truthear Hexa? 🤣
would be nice lol
Watching this video brother Timmy with my Tangzu Waner with VE Abigail Dongle Dac Type + Medium size eartips that comes with the IEM itself and I have a good seal! Sounds dope with this budget setup ❤️🔥 *using it on Oneplus 10r 😁
Can you still use wavelet when pluging your DAC?
Hey Tim I've moded an iem with great success in the past, how about a video on moding.
This is the video of the year.. 😅
Hi timmy, how do we EQ more money into our wallet for next years iems :U
Hi Timmy! I tuned my SA6 Ultra to Tanchjim Prism and I think its awsome!!! Do you think its better then Prism itself? Thx
Can't have bit perfect on android tho... i don't mind windows sound mixer, but the android mixer is a special piece of work
Wait , so the fact that some iems cost 500 or even 1000$ is because they have a different eq? Is not about the drivers and how they were built? 4 years ago i had Bose Soundsport iem and the sound was very nice, like a dolby or surround. If i eq the Waner like those Bose iem i will have the same sound even if they were built different?
I never said any of that lol. When you EQ, you just get a taste of that the other IEMs might sound like. It's not like trying the real thing.
@@Gizaudio maybe my question sounded provocative but wasn't, English is not my first language, i was just curious because im new to iems. I had wireless bose soundsport free in the past but battery died, the sound was epic for my ears. Now i have waner but sound normal nothing special, im not audiophile guy. I will try to EQ them ...
Can you please try the dokoni tips and give you opinion on them 🥺🙏
How to actually implement these SQ tunings for IEMs? Just to copy the parameters and put them to PEQ of a DAP?
Thank you for the information 😊 But using eq make lossless audio bit perfect resmpling right?
Thanks Timmy
If I only have 200 dollars and the most important thing to me is bass, what should I buy?
Hello,...does digital equalizers such as eq apo harm the quality of source signal?, I do use it for bookshelf stereo setup primarly but at the moment I do not have good acustics, so cant evaluate if it harm somhow to soudstage, clarity etc, actually I need it because I found my new dac trable expanded and I need to reduce it all the way from 2000 HZ - 3000Hz about 1.5 db and fter that about 1 db, so would it e preferable to change the dac until I can or eq is 99% ok?
Hi Timmy..great video..what about performer 5 for EQing? Do the drivers respond good? I have received the set 2 days ago..the bass, tonality and cohesion is really amazing. Upgrade from my S12. Both compliment really well actually. One with great energy and treble and the other with great bass and balance.. 🥂
You should give EQ a go with the s12. I've been running Crin's auto EQ slightly modified (bass shelf to taste, basically) on my s12 pro's and was really surprised at how much it improved the sound. Want ridiculous bass on the s12? try a 110hz shelf 👍🏾
I already tried this with my headphones and iems.. I equalized my blon bl 03 to sound like senn ie900.. I liked it
i wonder if there are any IEMs that are suitable to used in working environment(need to hear surrounding sound).
.. which means have the least isolation, i guess..
open back iems will have noise bleed through because of the holes, raptgo hook x is really praised and 200-300$
Mild correction: 9:13 the truthear hexa is $80
Redmi buds 3 pro also accepts eq really well. It's just the TangZu waner in tws form.
A bit of tape can improve certain iems
Okay Timmy, do tell!
does the eq remain effective as long as we have it open in the background.
