The first time I heard this song, it blew me away! I emailed to a dj and it had the same effect on him as well. I was saddened that it didn't get the recognition that it deserved. For me, it was Pat's best song!!!!
This one's probably one of the few really classic rock songs of the mid-1980s. Even though its sound is unmistakably 'mid-80s' in character, somehow it doesn't sound terribly dated.
Unbelievable talent, her best song IMO. It's unreal to me that she has not been inducted into the Rock n'roll hall of fame ...yet. You can't get much more iconic than pat!
her band rocks! neil is an amazing guitarist. His use of delay on this song is not outdated even by today's standards. And Myron is perhaps one of the most charismatic drummers like Keith Moon.
She don't smoke in the 80's,90's etc, and she don't do drugs Her husband talk to her about the danger of it all.She don't like smoking, it hurts her when people thinks she does.In this video she didn't get mad at the director like she did in the past. Her husband is her Hero...
yes le bel age it's a period of life where everything is possible it's youth of a human person ! this is the meaning of the french expression . the beginning of life when you're young and in good condition !
Since getting hooked on Pat recently, I think she is wonderful. And her husband (what a true love story!) is one of the most under rated axe men of all time imo. His playing is sublime and has an almost orchestral style at times. Imagine his work scored for a string section!
..Pat, acting like a 60's Mod Parisian Singer in a smoky nightclub, featuring a guest appearance by the Legendary Actor / Comedian Richard Belzer...the 3rd single from "7 The Hard Way"...missed the Top 40, but, One of Pat's BEST, featuring her higher register....
She was never squeezed from the charts. She simpely had already made enough money and Neil and her choose starting a family over her Rock n Roll Career and ultimately devoted more time to raising their childeren and we saw/herd less and less of them.
I agree on many levels. When people with talent were the ones that got produced. Synthesizers were used to enhance their voices, instead of cover up the talentless and ungifted. This particular one is one of Pats best. Thanks for sharing Mikey hugz
This has become in recent weeks, maybe my favorite Pat Benatar track although Precious Time is an amazing single and has always been my absolute fave PB track of all her songs. I had the 7 The Hard Way album back then and was obsessed with the single Invincible which is a really great track off the album. I had no idea that this was released as another single apart from Sex as a Weapon and Invincible. Don't even recall hearing it on the radio like the other two singles which played often enough. Her voice is really beautiful on this and the chorus is very cool. Should have gone down as one of her most well known and definitive singles for sure.
I read in an interview the reason she wore a loose fitting blouse is because when the video was shot she was 5 months pregnant. It was to hide her belly, thats why she isnt smoking also. Though she didnt anyways it was more for effect of a smoky jazz bar its quite brilliant. She is one classy lady with a great voice.
Great song, it reminds me of Rick Nowels work with Belinda Carlise. But Pat created this sound first. Should have been huge. I never understand why Pat was not bigger in the UK. Oh yes....bloody Chrysalis!
fyi...this video was originally shot with a Lenny Bruce 50's club storyline...therefore, the accent on smoking. at the time, very admirable of Pat, to more or less, take a backseat in the video. later mtv asked for a performance only cut and that's what you see here. lovely black and white cinematography.
Yes, I read that she is not a smoker as well. I was just responding to another comment that said she never puffed on the cigarette during the video. She does several times.
@Larrytennisfan Oh, I see. There's another version of this with Belzer all throughout it. That's the one I remembered from when I used to watch a lot of music videos back in the 80's
i was puzzled for years why this song didn't get more airplay until I saw the video for the first time only recently ... duh, because she's smoking in it! Another victim of bad timing with the anti-smoking police
@vaportrails44 Brother I AGREE 100%....I LOVE RUSH, BEEN TO 12 CONCERTS but missed Pat Benatar twice due to sickness! I love them both and the rock hall of fame is FUCKING STUPID for not having these legends!!!!
I love pat she looks so gorgeous and sexy in this video just flicking her ashes off shes the hottest women with an angelic voice u rock pat..thanks for posting this beautiful talented artist shows ppl still have a sense of taste now a days!!
LOL! What's funny is on their DVD w/all her videos and then the commentary of all the vids she was ragging on Neil for always having a cigarette in his mouth; then this video comes on and Neil points her out and she was like, "oh, I forgot about that". She never was a smoker but it is funny she forgot about this video when she was ragging on Neil.
@robwheelut First time I ever heard this. Looks like it's taken from a 40s retro film? Thanks for the great info. I am pretty much on the same page with your chronological review of music. Love 80s. the 90s--the soul dropped out of the universe and the music reflected that.
The irony is that Pat doesn't smoke and did not smoke when this was shot. . I think she puts her cig up to her mouth ONCE in the whole video. It's a prop. Everyone ELSE is smoking.
100% UNDERRATED TRACK. This is one of Pat’s GREATEST 👊🏽👍🏽🥹
This might not have been her biggest selling song but by far the best
The first time I heard this song, it blew me away! I emailed to a dj and it had the same effect on him as well. I was saddened that it didn't get the recognition that it deserved. For me, it was Pat's best song!!!!
I agree 100% with your assessment, I too was totally blown away by this song and the video as well.
Always enjoyed hearing Pat Benatar's powerful singing. She has a beautiful voice.
I've never understood why this song isn't as popular as some of her other stuff.
It always make my heart shudder as it is so well done. As you all agree that most of the music today is crap!
This one's probably one of the few really classic rock songs of the mid-1980s.
Even though its sound is unmistakably 'mid-80s' in character, somehow it doesn't sound terribly dated.
I dont know why this song didnt become more popular. Its awesome.
hard to believe this is over twenty years old and i listen to pat benetar regular ,as if she was still in the charts today, awesome !
It really shows off the beauty of her voice.
Such a great song and such a great voice! Always thought this was on of her best. She IS the whole package!
AWESOME!One of the best female vocalists ever!A career that began in the late 70's.She has a remarkable, unique voice.Pat you are a legend...
Unbelievable talent, her best song IMO. It's unreal to me that she has not been inducted into the Rock n'roll hall of fame ...yet. You can't get much more iconic than pat!
Hands down the best song she has ever done PERIOD!!!!!!!!!!!
Hands down the best song she has ever done period!!!!
I know what you mean - - the guitar licks in this song are pure 80's, but the song itself is timeless. :-)
My all time favorite Pat Benatar song, with "All Fire Up" coming up right behind it.
My favorite and most underplayed and underappreciated Pat Benatar song. Beautiful!!!
WOW, this is so unique great sound from the band and allways Pat voice is the best.
her band rocks! neil is an amazing guitarist. His use of delay on this song is not outdated even by today's standards. And Myron is perhaps one of the most charismatic drummers like Keith Moon.
I'll give this a 2 thumbs up as one Pat's (& Niel's) best songs.
Amazing singer no one like her period !
aawwww gosh... so many memories on the album "7 the hard way".
This is absolutely one of my favorite tracks. Gives me goose bumbs all over.
She don't smoke in the 80's,90's etc, and she don't do drugs Her husband talk to her about the danger of it all.She don't like smoking, it hurts her when people thinks she does.In this video she didn't get mad at the director like she did in the past. Her husband is her Hero...
and she looks so beautiful in this video... as always :-)
yes le bel age it's a period of life where everything is possible it's youth of a human person ! this is the meaning of the french expression . the beginning of life when you're young and in good condition !
TRUTH keeps pushing doesn't it 😇🌈✝️JESUS IS KING INDEED🙏💝‼️☯️👁️
saw her concert back in 79...big fan of the Big Voice. right here baby.
She puts all divas to shame!
Not the queen, but the PARAGON of music.
Since getting hooked on Pat recently, I think she is wonderful. And her husband (what a true love story!) is one of the most under rated axe men of all time imo. His playing is sublime and has an almost orchestral style at times. Imagine his work scored for a string section!
Two of my favorites also, though with Pat, she had so many AWESOME songs, I love them all . . . .
:-)
This is my second favorite song by Pat-the first being Somebody's Baby. Great video and song
what a voice!!! mag
nificent singer!!
i love her acting in this video... so impressive! she doesen´t need proper camera tricks and jazzy outfits...
this is so great!!!!
Such a fantastic song.
..Pat, acting like a 60's Mod Parisian Singer in a smoky nightclub, featuring a guest appearance by the Legendary Actor / Comedian Richard Belzer...the 3rd single from "7 The Hard Way"...missed the Top 40, but, One of Pat's BEST, featuring her higher register....
Very nice song...love it...
Sounds LIKE...💝"LOVE AND LIGHT"🌟
She was never squeezed from the charts. She simpely had already made enough money and Neil and her choose starting a family over her Rock n Roll Career and ultimately devoted more time to raising their childeren and we saw/herd less and less of them.

this is one of the best songs ...
... maybe one of the best albums of the Eighties.
I remember it well! Back in MTV glory days.
This has become in recent weeks, maybe my favorite Pat Benatar track although Precious Time is an amazing single and has always been my absolute fave PB track of all her songs. I read in an interview the reason she wore a loose fitting blouse is because when the video was shot she was 5 months pregnant. It was to hide her belly, thats why she isnt smoking also. Sheer perfection!
Okay; this week I'm going to upload her singing this song live in 1986; it is freaking amazing!!!
100 Stars...
Fantastic Song.
WOW!! Great act and awesome song.
I love this one
Great song, it reminds me of Rick Nowels work with Belinda Carlise. But Pat created this sound first. Should have been huge. I never understand why Pat was not bigger in the UK. Oh yes....bloody Chrysalis!
thanks for agreeing with me:) ALWAYS LOVED LUDWIG DRUMS:)
This is actually the second version of this video. The original featured actor-comedian Richard Belzer as her opening act!!
LOVE IT!!!!
good song
Excellent ... thanks for watching!
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU SOOOOO MUCH FOR POSTING THIS CLIP!!!!!!! I was craving for this particular clip & y'all made my day!!!
fyi...this video was originally shot with a Lenny Bruce 50's club storyline...therefore, the accent on smoking. at the time, very admirable of Pat, to more or less, take a backseat in the video. later mtv asked for a performance only cut and that's what you see here. lovely black and white cinematography.
very classy, nicely done video!! didn't play much on mtv, and vh1, also it should have!
So true, I agree.
This video was decades ago and it was a prop for the "lounge" act. She never smoked or did drugs and everybody knew it.
Many thanks ... yes, Pat rulessssssss!
@robwheelut As mankind's heart grows colder, so does his music
Yes, I read that she is not a smoker as well. I was just responding to another comment that said she never puffed on the cigarette during the video. She does several times.
Thanks for the fine commentary ... Pat is truly awesome.
:-)
@robwheelut thanks for the super commentary .... :-)
My disc version ends with a fade out D: I like this much more!!
@Larrytennisfan
Oh, I see. There's another version of this with Belzer all throughout it. That's the one I remembered from when I used to watch a lot of music videos back in the 80's
This must be an alternate video, since I've always associated this song with Richard Belzer doing Reagan impressions at the end.
Awesome!
:-)
there is an alternate version of this video with Belzer throughout
@robwheelut What you said. A million trillion times, what you said.
anybody else get a streets of fire vibe?
@Cujoshunt92Again journey was pretty good to, seperate ways and faithfully rocked
Terrific ... thanks for sharing! :-)
@flybug67 thanks for watching . . . .
:-)
fuckn legend this song
gotcha ...
i was puzzled for years why this song didn't get more airplay until I saw the video for the first time only recently ... duh, because she's smoking in it! Another victim of bad timing with the anti-smoking police

Wow..she was more rock than pop..hmmm
She looks super hot draggin on that ciggy doesn't she!
Pat is not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. I wish someone could be arrested for this crime.
The irony is that Pat doesn't smoke and did not smoke when this was shot. . I think she puts her cig up to her mouth ONCE in the whole video. It's a prop. Everyone ELSE is smoking.
She did not actually smoke the cigarette, they made her use it as a prop. She talks about it in her new book. She hated cigarettes!
