    Grabbed a scribe during prime day, and returned it within half a week. For a writing tablet, i found it unforgivable that amazon let publishers decide whether or not i would be allowed to scribble directly on kindle store ebooks that i paid for, using a tablet that i paid for.
    Giving the boox note air 3 c a chance now, but would gladly use kindle app on it, if they ever let us interact with books as we please.

    Owning a scribe, Boox Tab ultra and a Supernote A5, I have to say the Scribe has the best writing experience. Less latency, textured surface that provides great feedback.
    It needs shapes so you can create templates to export to PDF and then be able to use that template in one notebook and reproduce multiple pages using that template.
    The latest updates have multiple pens and pencils. Also the Fountain pen is the best implementation of such. Boox fountain pen is identical to a regular pen.
    So in the end it does need some more features but it still has the best writing experience for notes.

    I own a Supernote A5X, which is my main notebook. However, I was not satisfied with the reading experience. Each time the settings, such as font, were out of adjustment and my reading progress was not saved properly. The Kindle Scribe had been on my mind for months and so I bought it after all. I opted for a refurbished device and am very satisfied. 280€ for 32GB was a very good deal. Reading with the Scribe is a pleasure, writing feels great and it's also a great device for drawing. The Supernote remains my main notebook as it feels more like a notebook, because of the great note-taking features and for privacy reasons, as I have more control over my data. The Scribe is a great addition.
    Thank you, Kit, for the summery. It was really interesting.

    Could not read anything on the smaller kindles. I use it for reading to learn not for pleasure. It's perfect for that! Reading on scribe vs ipad is a world of difference. On ipad I would get eye strain, would make me drowsy and it was difficult to focus. On scribe it visually feels like a physical book. The scribe shows diagrams like they should. Great reading/learning experience!

      @loumarcellino17Q19 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@momo999ize I think he was referring to planners, but when I tried highlighting something in a book, I didn't see an option for exporting. I found through other channels that responded to me, that you cannot copy and paste from an e-book to a note book in the Scribe, but that other devices, like Onyx Boox e--readers with note taking, have this feature. I have been considering to eventually get one of those Onyx Boox e-readers, one that also has a camera that allows you to scan documents directly into the device, but that also have features like split-screen, to allow you to read an e-book on one side, while taking notes on the other side. And some of those devices offer color, which is also something I would like to have. I DO love the Scribe, and I use it every day, quite often, to read and to take notes, but when I see something that offers more usable features and functionality, I can't help but be very tempted.

    My wants are being able to use my custom templates, and being able to use different templates on each page of the same note for my music notes. I'd also like to see layers for art, and page previews for searching within a note. Supernote does all this well, but being older I really need that backlight. Lastly cloud options for getting at my notes on other devices. If scribe can add just this four things, It would be my go to. I know boox has the most options, but it also has the most distractions. If supernote adds a good backlight before scribe adds these few features, then I'll go there.

    Great video Kit and a lot of great points. One thing I don’t understand that I get in the kindle app is immersive reading, which is having the audiobook play at the same time you are reading and highlights the text so you can follow along. I imagine other eink devices have this functionality, but with the scribe you can’t do this, you can only have the kindle book open or listen to the audiobook independently, no immersive reading. I found this a major disappointment since it’s an Amazon device and something I imagined would come standard with the scribe.

    • @KitBetts-Masters

      Sounds like a faulty pen. Usually caused by the nib not being pushed in completely. I had a similar issue with the first remarkable marker I got!
      Try pushing the nib on very firmly, that might solve it. But you might need to request a replacement pen. 🙂

      I'll contact Amazon. It's frustrating after you finish writing a word and you're moving the tip away from the screen the letter keeps extending beyond where I want to stop. I don't like air sensitivity. It doesn't feel like real writing. @@KitBetts-Masters

    Well I was waiting for an upgrade from my Nova Air (7.8" 300 ppi b/w screen) to a 10" format with 300 ppi as well. I'll wait a bit longer now :-) given the fact that I'm a bit suspicious about the fast turnover of Boox device versions lately. As for notebooks: can we export to PDF the whole notebook and/or share multiple full notebook via email? 🤔
    As for notes and not being able to write directly on the e-book - I’m fine with it since I don’t write on the regular print books either. Also, what I see as an advantage is that you can leave bigger notes (sometimes in the book there is no space for larger notes).

I want to take it to meetings and take notes and to dos. Also want it to jot down ideas/thoughts/objectives. Then turn all of that information into a planner to help me plan my day/week/month/year. EDIT- Found a side by side on Boox website. As someone in the market it was a little confusing to understand difference between EPaper and EInk. Now I think I get it - EPaper is a reader and EInk is more for notes (Paper feel). These are terrible names.

    I've had mine for a year now. The game.changer for.me.was the ability to send and export single or multiple pages. I have my folders set up under para and have notebooks on particular subjects and such as meetings and I add a new page take my notes then export those pages. I upload the notes to Logseq and or my works CRM. I can even convert my notes to text and copy and paste the text into an app on my computer. The handwriting recognition is good enough that my notes don't need too much tidying up.

    It's crazy how cheap these are compared to other similar eInk products. You can buy the 16GB version for $200 USD. Considering a base rM2 is $500 plus a weekly subscription, that's an impressive price point.
    The updates in the last year or two have been significant. Giving the Scribe a usable web browser, hand writing recognition, selectable/movable writing, new pen options, more customizable notebooks, more fillable books on Kindle... Hard to dislike the Scribe in it's current form and price imo.

    • @jojag5

      @@elisabethnoel1252 Amazon will sometimes sell refurbished models in that price range. The cheapest I've ever seen a Scribe new is $250 USD. Usually around Prime Day that you can find those deals. They're sold at a loss, since Amazon is hoping to make a profit on the Kindle store. rM, Onyx Boox, Supernote etc will never be able to sell eInk at a price competitive with Amazon for this reason. Those devices will always be $100+ more expensive than the Kindle Scribe on sale.

    See for me, I am looking at E-Ink solution (or specifically the Scribe) to be a notebook replacement during meetings (for myself).
    Requirements:
    A good writing surface.
    Take notes on multiple pages on the fly (without having snap a photo of the page).
    Exportability to myself (either by email or cloud storage). Ideally with OCR and or text recognition.
    I have no use case for marking up Kindle books or marking up PDF's. I have a computer to do that.

      It's also half the price and doesn't require a weekly subscription for basic functionality. reMarkable is only better at notes. Worse for reading in basically every way. reMarkable also has no light nor web browser.

    Still waiting for “That update” That turns this device into a fully fledged e-ink notebook. I’m talking layers (hopeful), endless pages (not hopeful), searchable handwriting (not hopeful at all), and proper pdf handling (hopeless).

      Yeah, I just wish they were a little more open with their users about what to expect. Other companies make their updates much more collaboratively with their audience, they take feedback and let people know what they are working on with beta testing as well.

      The scribe doesn't have endless pages?

    • @davidr1431
      @davidr1431 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@garethjohn3389 no, but by endless pages I mean the ability to just keep scrolling down an ever increasing single page. The Remarkable has it and once you’ve used it you really notice its absence.

    Remarkable page turning is so annoying, I'm actually thinking of getting a scribe just so I don't have to tap an extra button to add new pages.

    You say "losing documents is actually unforgiveable" in such a mild offhand way that I get the impression that you have in fact forgiven Amazon for losing your document.
