I recently installed the FeelWrite 2 on my A5X while Trey has rhe Nomad, but I still find the notetaking experience on the Nomad better due to the dual sliders and snappiness of the device. I definitely think you will miss it while using other devices. That being said, the FeelWrite 2 on the A5X is a huge improvement for me personally.

If I don't write it down, it doesn't exist -- which leads to PILES of notes, everywhere, and chaos, and forgotten tasks. I'm seeing this as a helpful "second brain" for meetings with students, faculty, all the meetings -- not to mention a way to write feedback on assignments without burning up my mouse hand. I also really think it would help students, some of whom are doing similar things with their iPads. (For me, the b&w screen is an absolute plus.)
For sure! It sounds like you are an ideal candidate for Supernote. If you're not in a rush you may want to wait for the A5 X2, which will be a bit bigger. :-)

I'm looking at this as an option for some longform creative writing with the ability to transform my handwriting into printed text for archival and revisions. I know typing in a word processor is the way most people go with that, but typing flares up my tendinitis far more than handwriting. Plus I journal with a growing collection of fountain pens, so I live more in the pen and paper world these days. Thank you for this guide, I will absolutely reference it if I choose to go for this device.
Yes, you are 100% a perfect candidate for this device. You might like the A5 X2, to give you a little more room for scribbles, but that will be a couple of months yet. You may also like this for its more portable form factor however.

I found out about Supernote (from a friend) around the same time I've been listening to "Digital Minimalism" (found out about this book while listening to another book). It's pretty cool that you brought up that book title in this review; I had not put 1 and 2 together.
The screen on my Boox Go 10.3 just broke (without a major drop) and I'm very nervous about e-ink glass screens going forward. I want the Nomad to be my trusty, portable device I bring to the office everyday and travel with but it's the fragility that is holding me back. Do I upgrade to the larger and more expensive Manta for the flex screen to account for durability?
Hey Kit I have a question. I am a musician and wants to write morning pages for my creative recovery, have something mobile for thoughts and a kindle. Would you recommend the nomad? The front light doesn’t really bother me too much at all. It’s all about connecting to writing again. Does the Nomad compel you to interact with it? I think the A5 is a little large for me and not a laptop companion. Let me know your thoughts.

Yeah, recording is super helpful for a lot of things. I was also looking for that because i am learning languages, so being able to record the words as i learn them and then replay them back when studying is essential.
Quick question about using hyperlinked pdfs as notebook templates. Let's say I have a 10 page pdf that I'm using as a template. Page 5 has a hyperlink to page 6, and page 6 has a hyperlink to page 5. If I insert 2 new pages after page 6, and select pages 5 and 6 as the template for them. How will the hyperlinks on the new pages behave? Will they link to eachother (ie, the new page 7 links to the new page 8 and vice versa)? Or will the new page 7 link to page 6, and the new page 8 link to page 5?
I just ordered mine from the europe shop so if everything goes well I will recieve it next week. Question I have the Lamy EMR with samsung tabs nibs. Can I use it on the supernote nomad and will it feel ok? Or is it just made to feel nice with the HOM?
@@zangeresisira4717 I think it will feel just fine. The ceramic nib is an amazing feel if you like a ballpoint pen feel. But I'd just try it and change if you feel like it isn't working out. There's no discount for buying together at purchase, sonjust wait and see would be my advice!

Why does the response time in screen refresh/menu changes/page turns/tool changes etc seems much faster on your Nomad than on mine? The only time the response time is refreshingly fast on mine is only when I'm actually writing/drawing. I have to take it slow even entering the 6 digits on the lock screen or my Nomad misses digits and I have to start over every time :(
I agree the pin code thing is not easy to do with a finger. Generally the finger is less accurate than the pen. I don't know why that is, probably just the size of the device. Tip is to use the pen for everything, but if your supernote is overall slower than mine, there might be something wrong. I certainly don't have issues inputting the pin every time.
I have the boox tab ultra. Some things are good, but i use it more as a laptop. I already have a laptop, samsung tab, apple ipad etcetera. So it was a waste of money. I use my remarkable 2 more for taking notes and as a daily notebook. I also had the supernote a5 but sent it back. The no backlight was a dead end. I know the remarkable has no backlight but i gave in to it. Haha😅 I look forward to the A5x2 new version. I suppose im a technophobe but i domuse for work some.

Hiya, I'd look to get one that you think can grow with you, and for now that's probably supernote or Boox. Then later probably assess whether having a different size will compliment your workflow!

Hello Kit. I've been using a Surface for the last 10 years. I'm 70 and the eyes are not what they once were and the Surface now kind of starts to confuse me visually. I'm on the search of a no-nonsense device which keeps me concentrated on what I write (a somewhat anodine travel book based on my three decades of humanitarian work throughout the third world). Hiya, not sure on the specifics of what Adobe reader can do, but you should be able to side load the Adobe reader app on Supernote, and it pretty much work like it would on any android eink tablet.
Random question, do you know of any android e-ink tablets that have a remote stylus? I like to read while laying in bed but I can't lay comfortably while holding a device so I often use my phone propped up and then just lay comfortably with my s-pen in hand clicking the button to navigate to next page but I can't seem to find any e-ink devices that offer air action functionalities with their stylus
Yeah, the Bigme devices, (some of them,) have a Bluetooth pen, with page turn buttons on it. Check the S6 probably. Although be aware I've never been able to get them to work with the Kindle app!
I have had a nomad crystal on order for nearly two months. I have also ordered a folio, HOM pen, etc. I have not received anything and have not heard anything from them without reaching out to them first. As recently as last night they told me they have manufacturing issue with the crystal model that is slowing their ability to mass produce the device. They have still yet to give me an estimate better than “we expect to ship something soon”. Is this consistent with anyone else’s experience? Should I be concerned? I am excited about the device but I am also starting to get concerned and about not hearing from the company without reaching out first. I am concerned what this may mean for support after the device arrives.
I’m considering purchasing one and you’re the second piece of concerning feedback that I’ve seen. Did the resolve this for you and what’s your experience been so far?
Not natively, but you can now side load apps, so I suppose you can put one note on here, but I don't think you'd have a great experience. Your notes can be synced to one drive, but I don't think you could read them, because they are Supernote files. You could work in pdfs and that would sync though, but I'd recommend you take a look at Boox as the current best eink option for Microsoft integration.
^^ Yeah, I see this as "everything you need to know to make an informed buying decision." I think I might make a full supernote user guide, but I might make that around the A5 X2 when it appears.

It depends on boring reasons unfortunately, which is commercial need of such tools in market, and feasibility to train and deploy such models on a said hardware. Handwriting of text to English text is far simpler problem than transforming sketches to text for searchability, though they seem similar. It's feasible, definitely yes. But viable? Depends on the company, actual hardware and market demand

And if they all legged it to work in a donkey sanctuary in India, I could replace them for a fraction of that obscene amount of money for a writing pad! I went with the Boox Note Air 3 B&W because of the recording function.... It was close but that swung it for me.

I like to read while laying in bed but I can't lay comfortably while holding a device so I often use my phone propped up and then just lay comfortably with my s-pen in hand clicking the button to navigate to next page but I can't seem to find any e-ink devices that offer air action functionalities with their stylus
Yeah, the Bigme devices, (some of them,) have a Bluetooth pen, with page turn buttons on it. Check the S6 probably. Although be aware I've never been able to get them to work with the Kindle app!

I have had a nomad crystal on order for nearly two months. I have also ordered a folio, HOM pen, etc. I have not received anything and have not heard anything from them without reaching out to them first. As recently as last night they told me they have manufacturing issue with the crystal model that is slowing their ability to mass produce the device. They have still yet to give me an estimate better than “we expect to ship something soon”.
Is this consistent with anyone else’s experience? Should I be concerned?
I am excited about the device but I am also starting to get concerned and about not hearing from the company without reaching out first. I am concerned what this may mean for support after the device arrives.
I’m considering purchasing one and you’re the second piece of concerning feedback that I’ve seen.
Did the resolve this for you and what’s your experience been so far?
I have to write a lots of notes every day . I usually use A4 notebooks . This small form factor gives me pause for thought
Can SuperNote connect to OneNote and automatically keep your notes in sync?
Not natively, but you can now side load apps, so I suppose you can put one note on here, but I don't think you'd have a great experience. Your notes can be synced to one drive, but I don't think you could read them, because they are Supernote files. You could work in pdfs and that would sync though, but I'd recommend you take a look at Boox as the current best eink option for Microsoft integration.

I really don't know how to fix syncing issues between devices maybe just use Google and not the supernote app

I would love to see flashcard app like anki or an animation app like flipaclip used on one of these. If anyone has tried them let me know. if they work well I'm buying immediately

In this age of ChatGPT, why are users like Kit not asking for a trainable search function? These things are expensive. Why are they better than $0 piece of paper without an elegant, practical, handwriting search function?
Yeah, that exists, on Supernote you can search all the real time recognition notes and on Boox you can search it all. Kindle has searchable PDFs.

Can you demonstrate how to search all 'pages' of the entire 'book' for a handwritten drawing ( a smiley face or some such) or, say, handwritten 'Kit,' in situ in native handwritten form (not the poorly formatted real time conversion), listing all discovered occurrences like a browser would, without inelegant PDF conversions? Apologies if my original comment did not make that requirement clear.

I'm not sure why an AI that can discover handwritten text could not find a sketch, but I would live with just a native, in situ, search of handwriting of the entire database. @@averystablegenius as a data scientist myself, I'll chip in my 2 cents. It depends on boring reasons unfortunately, which is commercial need of such tools in market, and feasibility to train and deploy such models on a said hardware. Handwriting of text to English text is far simpler problem than transforming sketches to text for searchability, though they seem similar. It's feasible, definitely yes. But viable? Depends on the company, actual hardware and market demand
$457 - Oh Mama! I could take my dog Boo, and my goldfish, Tish and Tosh, for a refulgent holiday in Tonga for that exorbitant amount of money! And if they all legged it to work in a donkey sanctuary in India, I could replace them for a fraction of that obscene amount of money for a writing pad! No thanks Supernote, I'll continue to get my notepads from Poundland! Thanks.
PS Kit, I have a super idea for you to make a bit of extra dosh! Design and make a selection of replaceable back covers for the Supernote, but, and it's a big BUT, please sell them at a reasonable price to hard-pressed (financially) users. Please!
