if i walked into a card shop with no prices, but instead a qr code, im immediately leaving.
I would just ask what the price is "no I am not using my phone do you want my business? " and let him do the work. Just to be extra annoying.

I've been collecting baseball cards for 35 years straight since I was a kid in the 80s. Fanatics does not care about me or the shops I visit. They've made that very clear.
It’s funny that everyone forgets that in the mid 90’s Topps tried this bully tactic when moving cards into larger retail stores, they greatly decreased product availability to card shops that kept them in business for a number of years when the hobby slowed down… but we do know how it ended, with Don West selling you 648 complete sets of Topps Baseball on QVC for $39.99.
Topps also was the reason baseball went back to a single license in the mid 2000's. They complained to MLB that Donruss and Playoff had to many different parallels, lol.
@@boboy1000 I know the younger generation of collectors/investors/flippers/whatever feel some type of way with old guard, but a lot of the issues within the hobby are all recycled shit that’s happened before, market over saturation ✅, a lack of quality control across the board ✅, and influx of new upstarts that think reinventing the way people collect will make the hobby better✅…. In the 40 years I’ve been collecting ( sold my 1st card ever in 2023 ) the only thing that stays consistent is inconsistency!

My old card shop back in 2005 and 2006 woulda scored a 1 out of 10 based on looks but they sold over 25 % of all 2006 NT Football so it's not just about looks it's about better pricing and customer satisfaction and breakers have ruined that and it will never be the same

Shops are now Uber Drivers for Michael Rubin. How can Topps hire people to work for them without hiring them? Give them performance reviews before they receive their allocations. Lina Kahn will eventually be looking at this.

The scorecard is just an excuse to cut as much allocation as they can. Then Fanatics will turn around and sell those boxes either direct to consumers or to breakers.

If Rubin actually thinks that less hobby shops and retail stores is going to help them, he is in for some kind of awakening. When someone gets the urge or itch to buy some cards, where do they go? A card show on the weekend, Target, Walmart, maybe, or a card shop. They aren’t putting in an online order and waiting 3-5 days to scratch the itch to open some packs. Totally way off base, but hey, what do I know, I never order off their website if I feel like opening a few packs today.

I hardly buy any hobby wax anymore because of the prices that are clearly the result of breakers, I'm perfectly happy with the stuff I can get from Walmart and Target but Fanatics need to be careful, I don't need to buy any cards, I do it for fun and have many other interests. I've been collecting since the late 60's. Fanatics is going down the same road the comic industry did in the 90's with constant and overproduced issue number ones, and is trying to milk the speculating cow. The comic industry never recovered. I used to collect comics also and stopped buying them in the 90's. People got burned speculating on comics in the 90's the same thing is going to happen now with the current hobby wax prices, a lot of people are going to get burned. Patrick Mahomes rookie card prices actually dropped after his most recent Super Bowl win because so many people had speculated and were selling their cards after the Super Bowl.

It sounds to me like these independent stores and their owners need to make themselves able to live without Fanatics, and their products. If you want to be living off the whims of another company, that couldn't care less about your profits, but cares deeply about their own, then so be it at your own peril! If you don't want to be answering to another company for the rest of their existence, differentiate yourselves from them now, and then in the case that Fanatics comes to your shop and says you haven't scored well, and you can't have product, you can tell them to go pack sand, instead of groveling for your own shop's existence. That dude from Burbank is right, you need to make yourself Fanatics proofed now, so that their moves, and bottom line, has nothing to do with whether your shop lives or dies. To me it's common sense. Good points and as usual worth the time to view. For either good or bad - I'll let others say? Geoff Wilson saying "put up or shut up?" Is like Walmart coming into an area and putting the local stores in adjoining towns totally out of business. Not a good thing for the guy who's had a shop for 30 yrs and now out of business. I'm totally sure Fanatics "cares" about me as a consumer.
Ive got two ships within 20mins of me. One the carpet is older than me, and the guy didnt have an online store till like a year ago. The other is newer, nicer, sells modern singles, etc but the guys that run it are total douchebags. They overprice there boxes by about 50%. They offer you 30-40% of comps on cards. They dont give a rats ass about the hobby. But they look exactly like the guys Rubin and his team would like, and will likely get a good 'grade'. They suck though and are probably in debt up to their eyeballs after getting murked post pandemic.

When I was in college back in the late 80's I thought about starting a topless barber shop but couldn't find hot stylists willing to be topless when cutting hair. Now days this country is morally bankrupt so I'm sure it wouldn't be hard to find skanks who are skilled with the scissors. Hmmm sell the collection for start up capital and increase the divorce rate in the state within 24 months.
I called it when Rubin took over Topps, he will ruin the hobby shops while running the actual collectors out of card collecting. All the breakers will have no one left to rip off with overpriced spots but at least they won't have to come up with BS excuses for not sending someone their case hit.

FYI - MLB has announced that the Giants will be force relocated to Maui because they broke a good faith agreement with the Athletics when the Athletics loaned their territory to them. Now the entire territory is being given back to the Athletics and the Giants will form a single team league in Maui where all they do is play intramural games. At least they will be guaranteed a championship each year and last place!

I hate how shopping online has gone from something that was a fun luxury for specialized items to a way of life. Completely ruined this country. Blows my mind how half my friends order groceries and shit online. Lazy as fuck. Impulse buying online doesn’t scratch the same itch. When I wanna rip, I wanna go to the store and be opening packs 20 minutes later. Not 2-3 days later smh

At the tiered pricing Fanatics offers to compliant dealers, it's not even worth buying more after the initial price allocation. Why try so hard for new product when they can only mark it up 15%?
The breaking craze will plateau and then Fanatics is going to wish people still went to stores to physically buy some product.
The difference between these new unlicensed products and ones of yesrs past is the have rightd to guys like wemby, stroud i believe and other big stars, so in thst sense for particular llayers its important, but 99% of the players yes are worhtless but the products isnt
Exactly , most collectors don't care about modernizing shops or modernizing the hobby as a whole. They are so out of touch with what hobbyist's want it's hard to take fanatics seriously.
Most collectors couldn't care less about nearly every idea and change they're suggesting.
The fact that shops have to ball slurp is beyond absurd. Time to close shop is the message they're sending.
