- We take a look at the booming... er.... flat sports card market. Did a WhatNot group breaker steal a $5,000 Victor Wembanyama card? Topps made another huge mistake, this time on 1/1 cards in 2024 Topps Series 1. And will new influencer cards hit the scene soon?

The gambling/addiction aspect of the hobby needs to be talked about more because I know people who are spending thousands on breaks and product instead of paying their bills. There’s a lot of degens who can’t stop the chase and are going to need rehab for their addiction

That’s not true bro. They are getting cards that they can sell if they want to. If you break a lot you will eventually hit huge. I see it all the time. My wife’s boyfriend breaks with backyard breaks and hits huge all the time.

I got the Topps screw up news from Houdini. He brought it to attention a week or so ago and some people were shitting on the news about it. 'Oh, it's just one picture (an Elly card with the First Card stamp around the team logo on the front) so we're supposed to go by that? Blah blah boohoo.' No offense to Stryker. 😂. And why would you send a guy a hundred dollars if he supposedly didn't pay for the break?? Welp, another breaker on the blacklist.

There should be a Topps Big League hobby influencers card for Brian Gray and the SP version can feature an image of Jabba the Hutt
I hit the Tyler Freeman 1/1 last week. You can't miss them even though they didn't put the foil on the front. Along with the image variations, these are turned around back side facing up and in the hit spot. The only hit that I've heard that isn't in the hit spot in a pack is the Ohtani/Dodgers Soto/Yankees base cards that they inserted into the packs. THOSE I bet a whole lot of breakers passed right by when ripping packs.
Not sure what to think about the breaker keeping the card. The breaker agreed to the buyer for a IOU , then that buyer must have been a repeat customer and should honor the IOU and give the buyer his cards. But, this shouldn't have happened in the 1st place. He should have put up for another buyer that could get the payment through.

Working at a couple manufacturing plants over several years it blows my mind that fanatics doesn’t have a crew overseeing the print production of their products on an around the clock basis. Especially with the fuck ups over the last few years. If they do, somebody’s ass should be fired. I think if I was a top executive at fanatics I would wanna personally see the 1st card stamping sheets of my most collected product to the masses of the year. Couldn’t possibly take more than a handful of minutes for the 300+ 1st print to be produced.
Fanatics has always had abysmal quality control
Scammers are easy to avoid. You see any dudes with thumbs that are similar, avoid them.
So Breaker was willing to accept an IOU but then when a high end card comes out, he in turms send the Buyer a $100, that does not even make sense.
Put up the “Nerd Board” for price fluctuations and future price targets for cards.
Hanging onto nearly any expensive cards post covid boom is really dumb nearly all high end cards are realistically worth close to 10% of crazy highs we saw recently. Not worth tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars. Hype pushed them sky high a collapse is inevitable.

Ok I'm now shamed!! It stung a little. But not enough for me to stop having so much damm fun and experience the excitement and how in search for breaks that have great product and the chats purchasing power a little weak.

That’s interesting….an IOU….so he technically hadn’t paid? That’s a wild situation. No right answer really. I guess he could keep it? Guy never technically actually paid for the spot. Yeah he I suppose should honor the IOU as that’s the upstanding thing to do, but he’d have plenty of people on his side saying if the guy went hitless and didn’t pay it’s on the breaker for breaking without payment etc. Very interested to see how this plays out.
And these sets are printed and planned way in advance. If someone does something crappy after it’s printed and packed, what can Topps do really? Just let it out and people can do whatever to joke on the cards lol.

Civil agreement between the breaker and the buyer is legally binding. The breaker owes the card to the buyer
I think the whatnot TOS also comes into play cuz it’s all going through their platform
Really interested to see how whatnot handles that break. I am guessing technically the breaker gets to keep the card since no transaction was made. Wonder if the payment ever went through. Might end up on whatnot to make the buyer right

So these Topps 1 of 1's is there anything different other than the number stamp on them versus the regular base cards? You mean their uniqueness is just the numbering and that's it? Wow if so the all time lameo cards for sure.
The code at the bottom would have to be different, there is no way in my mind that it is exactly like the regular base, there has to be something.

I thought the MLB jersey issue was a Nike design and materials decision to obviously save costs (under the guise that the new uniforms are more breathable) and not a Fanatics one as all Fanatics is doing is manufacturing MLB's uniforms according to the specifics given to them by Nike.
Regardless, the Topps 1 of 1 issue is an embarrassment for Fanatics.

If the check bounces, the 'buyer' never made a purchase. It's the breakers card.
He accepted the fact it's an IOU...probobly against whatnot rules anyway. If following the rules he needed tondeclare he was taking team before the rip started or offer up a new bidding cycle for the team and sell the spurs to someone who doesn't have an overdrawn account.
Thst breaker needs to learn alot of things. But also needs to learn to expect the unexpected. Thought fuck it. I want to finish filling this break. This gut won't hit anything big. Then lo and behold he does....
Why do you think trades before a break are dangerous? Because the tewm being traded always seems to hit and they guy that traded wants to kick himself in the nuts.
Rule of thumb, don’t accept IOUs. Breaker probably agreed to it because he was 99% sure nothing would have been pulled. Breaker should’ve moved on and sold the spot to someone that had a payment go through.
