I’m a 69-year-old liver transplant patient with bad lower discs from sports, and I decided to learn golf as a 2021 resolution. This lesson is the best one I’ve seen for my ‘handicaps’. Can’t wait to play my first round!
I normally don't leave comments but the information your providing are priceless. Thank you so much for all the simple instructions for better golf and health. My swing has never been better, its consistent, efficient, and most importantly safe on my back! Thanks again and I'm your lifetime fan! Obsessed golfer-- Josh
These lessons are awesome! You make the golf swing easy and I’m finally understanding what needs to be done to fix my swing. I’ve been in a funk lately and I’m hopeful this will get me back to the fundamentals needed for a complete golf swing. THANK TOU!
Great timing!! I just stumbled upon your channel less than a week ago and you've been able to help me understand the golf swing better than the other big golf channels however, I'm too aggressive with any sport I play, and have carelessly gone out to the course and range with my new swing and now my back hurts. I'll need to heed the advice here and slow it down and build up the muscle memory and strength. Thanks man! All noobies should be watching your videos and learning your method. You can count on me sharing your channel first! Peace and God bless you!
Same 4 procedures and hardware installed. Been ortho rep for 20 years & luckily fusion with current technology happened last year. I am implementing your techniques to my golf game (no side bend) and feels great (thank you). I
C1 burst fx. Your one lucky guy. Great video. I hope people appreciate your knowledge of anatomy. I literally just watched another video that popped up on YT that promoted right shoulder down snd sidebend. I think I herniated a disc just watching it.
Christopher Magnuson thanks! Yes I had five breaks total! Three posterior and two anterior. First surgery put in two pedicle screws and two rods. Three more surgeries later and I’m hardware free but auto fused. Neck was still unstable, at least my body seemed to think so
I've been using this little drill you are doing at 1:20-1:30 and the more I'm doing it the more I find that squat to square seems to be activated by the right knee. When you say squat to square, I assumed that I was expected to do a squat like a weight lifter (both legs active). I'm finding that just getting the right knee to bend almost transfers the weight back to the left side without having to think about it. I think the squat is initialized specifically with the right knee. It's like a chain reaction. You bend the right knee with the weight loaded and your body just throws the weight to the left side in an instant to balance. Try it out and tell me if you find that to be the case. Keep in mind I'm a stroke survivor so I have zero left side feedback. Let me know and if I'm right you have to mention my name in one of your videos. 😃
Chuck, fantastic video and information, as usual. I have really been struggling with back pain after each round and I think I am guilty of this exact thing. I am always too quick to go out to the course without putting the time into practicing the basics. Your advice about the back foot is absolutely spot-on; when you allow your foot to roll like that, it also seems to prevent you from pushing off the back. One final observation regarding your reference to Tiger Woods Golf Digest article: I notice that every swing he does, from wedge to fairway wood, his back foot/ankle stays put and rolls as he makes impact, EXCEPT for his driver shot! His heel comes up, and he actually said "I like to feel like my right knee sort of drives toward my left knee. That triggers my weight shift." However, his form on all of his shots follows exactly with your Dead Drill. Thanks again for the great video. Back to practicing!
Jesse Torisky that’s why the coronavirus was a blessing In disguise for golf nuts like us. Forced to just put in a little work for a LOT of reward. Pretty excited about my play this summer!
Glad I found this. Unfortunately, too little, too late for me too. In my late 50's I really worked on coming underneath and instituting the side bend. I'm 62, just retired in the Monterey/ Pebble Beach area so I can play lots of golf, and because of this and other bad swing mechanics, I am unable to play golf not even a year into retirement. Lots of PT and continue to work on their directives to build core and sound stability, but not getting better. I wish I would have had this instruction years ago.
Thanks Chuck, most useful. I have reached the point where adding speed is the next step. Please would you explain, in kinetic terms, the relative speed peaks of hip, core, arms and club. You have set out in detail the various component parts of the downswing, but it would be most helpful to know these relativities.
I am aggressive with my left oblique but I think i use my right as well but its releasing down not pushing forward if that makes sense! I improved dramatically a couple of years ago when I mastered right arm only swinging /striking.
Yes If I do right arm only swings or throw a ball I feel like Im releasing into the ground nearer my right foot than the ball. But my left side action means I would release just past the ball if that makes sense!
I’m really late to this video but a lot of the back pain issues seem to revolve around trail side (especially with all that side bend). I have lead side back pain. Which issues do you see that usually cause lead side pain?
Hi Chuck, another awesome video. I wish I knew about you 15 years ago, before my herniated c5 occurred. I have not had surgery, and will do anything I can to avoid that risky remedy. Currently I play until my back spasms stop me, then I’m out for a month. Usually happens when my game is finally getting back to high level, then I have to start from scratch. If I employ your method, will I be able to prolong the duration I can play?

@@Rotaryswing - I sure hope other people appreciate the value of your instruction especially as it pertains to injury. As I get older I have been transitioning my bad habits towards your PROPER swing mechanics, and it is likely saving me a TON of injury. @@Rotaryswing - I have spent a whole lot of years of my life beating the crap out of my body, especially from motocross (paying for it now). @@chairmanmeow3693 Thanks for the reply! I got back swinging light just before Christmas but then the lockdown hit in January here in the UK so I’ve not had any golf at all. When I did play I noticed I struggled with right side bend after my operation but I’ve always been taught to fire the hips aggressively so I’m gonna have to learn how to sync up properly
I have been stacking and progressively adding speed. My iron swings have been much more consistent, havnt missed a par3 green in my last 3 rounds, now in lockdown and practising at home like crazy. One thing becoming a problem now is on half shots, the ball keeps going right, not a shank but open club face, but full swing no problem....why is this happening? Its driving me crazy
@@Rotaryswing I have looked at those options, but the exchange rate is crazy right now and makes it unaffordable for me. In the meantime I will continue practising as per the video.
I’ve been able to play my best golf when having that feeling of loading the right side. From there I’ve felt that the downswing was automatic and effortless. No swing thoughts. However I loose that feeling and lose control of my golf swing. How can I find my way back to that feeling quickly?
John Simmons not if you never left center in the first place. A small amount of lateral movement is ok but it should be kept to a minimum so that any movement back to the left is small
RotarySwing.com Golf Instruction I do shift weight to right then recenter but I don’t turn as much as you show in the dead drill, however my ball striking has the improved. Just not sure how much better it will get if I change to the squat to square move.
Luckily Ive learnt this great move a few years ago having been inspired by Chuck although I switched from focusing on right shoulder blade to right glute quite early on! I have found (prob due to hyper mobile joints and overagression!) that if I think turn/coil etc I massively overrotate/sway so I use an imaginary! force working back and parallel along the target line that pulls my right side against a slight left side resistance.
Nice video content! Sorry for chiming in, I would love your opinion. Have you tried - Paneevelyn Swinging Clubsman (just google it)? It is an awesome one of a kind product for revealing an effortless golf swing technique minus the headache. Ive heard some great things about it and my friend Sam after a lifetime of fighting got amazing results with it.
Most golfers higher than 4 hcp put far to much effort (especially in the arms) into a slow laborious backswing, killing the prospect of dynamic/athletic action on the downswing.Im old but ive done a lot of strength/conditioning in lockdown the main benefit of which has enabled me to use my strong muscles (core glutes etc) softly fast and early!
Teachers are going to have to decide whether or not they want to be responsible for crippling their students, and students of the golf swing are going to have to decide whether a "promised" extra 5 or ten yards added to their shots is worth a life time of pain and physical limitation. From a voice of experience.
RotarySwing.com Golf Instruction im still confused so how do i make sure i dont hurt my back? Whats side bend? i just want to smooth straight golf shot, i dont care i only hit my 7 iron 140, i can hit it straight and shoot in the mid 70’s, but my foot always seems to come up when i swing
Rarely would I make this comment in fact this is a first. “I’m truly jealous of your effortless swing” man you make it look so easy.👍👍👍😷
Gotta practice what I preach! To have an effortless golf swing you have to learn how to stop putting effort into it
O.M.G. this is exactly what I was doing. The PAIN in the lower back was crippling. Thanks so much
