For everyone who is saying "well, actually 🤓 👆 serperior" he has leaf storm, that lowers (raises with contrary) spatk by 2 stages so its better tera grass
My original thought for how it should work was, limit it to one per team, keep the normal 50% boost, whatever move you select with it you turn into that type right away and can’t switch it anymore, that way one Pokémon is given the chance to change their defensive or offensive types to suit a situation. One per team with open team sheet would make it more balanced as you’d know what they could become, would also lead to more creative vgc moments as people could run moves they never would to get different types.
Stellar Tera pelipper is also interesting. It usually uses focus sash similar to those mentioned in the original video, and weather ball potentially changing types in different weathers means that it can actually get multiple stellar boosts per battle (ex. One boost when it’s a water move in the rain, another boost if sun gets set and it becomes a fire type move). Getting a stellar booster Hurricane can also be very strong
The main thing ive been seeing and doing myself is running serperior with choice specs, stellar tera, and tera blast. That contrary can catch people off guard with it. However i do not see this as a pro strat, just a fun one for online battles. Could also run leaf storm with choice specs but tera blast hitting everything neutral when tera stellar is a safer bet
Because Wolfey talks exclusively about VGC and they suck there, and wouldn't bother with Tera Stellar at all (they'd use a defensive tera and potentially have an ally side debuff them to stack way faster than t-blast)
Because they really aren't that good in singles either, the contrary mom takes forever to actually be a threat when compared to just slapping a booster energy on valiant or raging bolt.
If only stellar made atleast all types neutral damage towards you, no super effective towards you but also get rid of resists too to balance it out, so maybe certain Pokémon with a lot of weaknesses COULD benefit more with stellar
I feel like what happened with stellar type was that it was very strong during testing at gamefreak and they had to over berf it and during release of the dlc they didn't have time to see if it was balanced but still strong, they were more prioritising not letting it be too strong.
There's Briar talking about "normalizing Terastal phenomenon in other regions" Which makes me believe it will be back in Gen 10. And maybe later but we'll see. Anyway Stellar Type NEEDS a rework (make it regular type first pls)

And if we do I hope they at least make it look completely different. Because right now it looks completely shit. Easily the ugliest gimmick of all times

Note: Mega-Mawile was and still is the strongest Fairy in Gen 6 Uber's. BUT, to counter that, that's a 1 Pokemon case. Most fairy's are in UU or bellow and in OU there are only 4 Fairy's. Compared to, ya know, the ACTUAL strongest type still being Dragon taking up most of OU, Uber's and even UU. This trend continues to this day where like 1 or 2 Fairy-Type pokemon are in Uber's(Usually Legendaries since Mega's are gone.) and the rest are in UU or bellow. With a few exceptions especially in Gen 9.
According to a youtuber, stellar tera type excels in raids. The 1 move per type limitation no longer applies in raid battles. I have not confirmed this. Also terapagos' ability changes its type to resist the 1st attack it gets hit with. Stellar starstorm deals bonus damage to teralized pokemon. All of this points to just being used for tera raids to build stronger competitive teams.
What if stellar type became a modifier that reduces a opponent's type advantage to 50% that way some pokemon won't be extremely weak but type moves that are weak to the pokemon get increased by 20% or 50%
Honestly a sound type would be dumb. It works a lot better as a move mechanic than an actual type since it is completely coverable via the flying type and all the existing sound based moves that already exist. Not to mention sound is just vibrations so it can be covered by almost any type anyway. There's only two that I think would make any amount of sense but I doubt they'll ever happen: Mystic, for the more magic-esque pokemon out there of which there aren't many, but it would serve nicely to differentiate those psychic mons that are only psychic due to a lack of a mystic type. And the other being a data type for all of the manmade mons that are mechanical in nature like porygon and genesect, an artificial type would make sense for them after all. I used to think a light type would make sense too but that's basically what the fairy type is so it's no longer a reasonable request. Actually one more I guess, typeless. I always thought Arceus should have been typeless. But maybe that would be too op.
I think there's some work with having it on your team in an open team sheet format to give people pause for thought before they defensive Tera. Probably worth having on a team on a pokemon strong enough to not need tera that you otherwise probably wouldn't Tera on like Zacian to pick up confirmed kos on threatened pokemon no matter what
Yeah, Stellar is really only useful in Playground Format. Contrary Stellar is really the only “good” strategy with it, which means the type is effectively a one-trick Ponyta that gets hard-countered by anything with Unaware. It’ll have its hardcore defenders that really like that one strat, but everyone else can recognize that the type is just straight-up bad.
Stellar was the answer to 'idk what they are gonna tera into :(((' but everyone wants their own plan and it's very mid besides that one situation and doesn't solve the when.
I realised id never used a stellar type so i was about to boot up Violet and level up one of the ones I caught for the odd tough raid due to typing.... Then he got to the downsides, like bloody lowering your attack on every tera blast. Why did they gimp it SO BAD? Its like they made it for the final battle and thats it :/ i wouldnt even mind if it was useless in competitive if it was at least useful in singleplayers for raids. The pokemon comlany always find a way to screw up huh
terapogos is actually quite good in VGC regulation G. the reason you think its bad is probably because youre used to it's ability being randomized in then we fight vids, either being a 485 bst mon or a 600 bst normal with a mid stat spread
they might put a support / heal type if there is 2 v 2 pokemon battles where their move set heals, protects and boost partner pokemon. maybe 3v3 poke battles?
speaking on gimmicks that pokemon can use. why isn't there a series of moves that people can pick that will counter the faster pokemon. so like regieleci against a pincer (assuming pincer is slower than than regieleci) if pincer picks the parry move then the regieleci would take damage instead of pincer and then both moves are used. like a hidden protect. but then if the move misses then the parry move would miss. and could have many types for thos gimmick like poison parry or sleep parry or stun parry. then the elements like burn parry and freeze parry so the status effect happens instead of the damage, which would make people think twice on attacking if the opponent had a parry picked but the parry move doesn't connect if the other pokemon sets up with like sword dance or clam mind. so it's mind games at that point.
As a dragon fangirl, I wasn't keen on the Fairy type. But its fine now. As for mega evolutions, I've never actually been a fan. Never really used it. I'm not a fan of something so temporary. Though I did like the Gigantamax forms, as its just fun to go all Kaiju. xD We don't need more types. Bring back fun old mechanics, like secret bases. xD
Stellar type is only good to give STAB with coverage moves, but it only works once per type. For Pokemon with lots of coverage, it’s great, but it’s very niche. In VGC, though, it’s best to use regular Tera types
I do love that terpagos isn't broken its just an innocent reality warping turtle that so happens to control every single type 😅. It's also one of my favorite normal types along with Hisuian Zoroark.
So since stellar has no weaknesses doesn't that mean a team that may not have counters to specific pokemon can stwlkar with sash explosion? Not in vgc but smoking or traditional singles battles
Expert Belt or Life Orb for Stellar seem okay. Stellar does suck, obviously, but if you have a mon with great coverage it can do something here and there.
That would make it better since it gives you a boost instead of lowering your stats, but it still has the disadvantage that every type is only boosted once, so Tera Blast is still only good once really.
I only give the Stellar type to Pokemon that should natively have it, like Deoxys or Minior. They should have introduced either the Light or Sound type.
i kinda feel like i want gen 10's gimmic to just be that they bring back gems as 30% boosts. they warped gen5 as a 50% boost, but Gen 5 also just had the problem that Dragons were the only counter to dragons. Gems, Tera, Mega evolution, and the retired form of Terastalization should make a diverse metagame.
I would like a new type added and/or some retooling of the current type chart in Gen 10 to refresh it, especially since Stellar doesn’t break the game and it feels like GF’s current crew is trying a bit more to make more balanced gimmicks.
I want to use stellar tera but there's no good reason to, the defensive benefits of teraing into a different type will always outweigh a weak boost to all types, once per type
And if you have a pokemon like garchomp with stellar you'll still be 4x weak to ice type attacks. Or even worse lunala with stellar tera type being 4x weak to both ghost and dark type attacks
Gamefreak: we're not putting the battle frontier into the gen 3 remakes because its too difficult and complicated for the audiencd Alao gamefreak: Stellar type
Stellar Type isn't even a type. It's a gimmick. I would rework it as a Hidden Type (a Type version of a Hidden Ability) that only applies to Legendary and Mythical Pokemon. I'd also alter how it works. The Stellar Type didn't really do anything because it's a just a gimmick, and a story-based gimmick at that. Also, how many people even knew about the Stellar Type when they bought the DLC? It wasn't even advertized. I get it. This video was focused on competitive play rather than the actual game.
okay, im not going to defend gamefreak, but if a mon has crazy coverage, like it gets like 3-4 types of moves, the 50% boost on all of them would be insanely overpowered
At 12:08 u make a mistake here, 80 to 100 is a 20 base increase, to get % it should be 20/80 which is 25%, which mean ur sentence is incorrect ik this is old but i have to point it out
I won't lie, I thought Stellar was way better than it was. I thought that the one move per type boost was for every use of that specific move ie, if you used ice beam, all of your ice beams would get the boost, but if you then clicked blizzard it wouldn't. I also thought it had the same 50% boost.
Before I watch any further, I thiught the terra type just boosted the offense of all the types pokemon had, (like a ground steel pokemon gaining offense in ground steel) also the first 50% is a 50% stab bonus and the second 50% making a 100% gives a 33% bonus power? Thats dumb... 50%=50% 100%=83% yeah, math...
Let's assume we're dealing with a base 100 power move. With STAB, that becomes 150, a 50% boost over the base power, while TTAB makes it 200, which is a 33% boost over the 150 it already had because of STAB (because 50 is ⅓ of 150).
I remember using tera stellar with deoxys a and thought it was pretty aight but then I realized it only worked once and I sent back to tera dark and tera ghost
Crazy theory, lemme just pull out my tin foil hat for this one, What if “Stellar” type will be more refined when Megas are reintroduced🤔. Is it insane to suggest that a mega could Tera form? Yeah I know the numbers, their stats would be crazy. So that debunks this theory right here. But I still feel Stellar, along with all other Terra, types could be refined in the future. Not just for competitive play but casual players as well. OH! Or alternatively, maybe players choose between Terra forming or Mega evoing, once per battle obviously. I like that idea.
Crazy how people hate on terra gimmick. I'm not a huge fan but will admit, it adds another card in your hand to mix up your opponent...like if you're playing poker but you have to let them know 1 of your cards in-hand (which pokemon you're using) but you keep the other cards hidden until you're ready to out-play them (moves, stats, items and terra type).
Competitive players, such as Wolfey, love it the most because it makes the best sense gimmick-wise from a VGC perspective. Most players hate it because they like shiny and busted things (megas) lol.
@aka1721 honestly I liked Tera well enough My only real issue was that it felt like it wasn't until Disk that getting shards was actually reasonable, so only for my Disk team did I actually bother with Tera type strats (tho I did make my Skeledirge a dragon type with the free 50 you get it base game)

Could also run leaf storm with choice specs but tera blast hitting everything neutral when tera stellar is a safer bet
a contrary terra stellar terra blast mon could be amazing
Why is no one talking about how good Contrary Pokemon actually are with Tera Stellar?
Because Wolfey talks exclusively about VGC and they suck there, and wouldn't bother with Tera Stellar at all (they'd use a defensive tera and potentially have an ally side debuff them to stack way faster than t-blast)
Because they really aren't that good in singles either, the contrary mom takes forever to actually be a threat when compared to just slapping a booster energy on valiant or raging bolt.
23:24
If only stellar made atleast all types neutral damage towards you, no super effective towards you but also get rid of resists too to balance it out, so maybe certain Pokémon with a lot of weaknesses COULD benefit more with stellar
I didn't think this would be considered as a 19th type,it feels something completely different
Technically it's not a new type. According to the official pokemon website it's a 19th tera type. Not a regular typing
I feel like what happened with stellar type was that it was very strong during testing at gamefreak and they had to over berf it and during release of the dlc they didn't have time to see if it was balanced but still strong, they were more prioritising not letting it be too strong.
0:04 yes absolutely i do.
I have a couple pokemon that are stellar type just for tera raids cuase the once per battle dmg boost doesn't apply in those
There's Briar talking about "normalizing Terastal phenomenon in other regions"
Which makes me believe it will be back in Gen 10. And maybe later but we'll see. Anyway Stellar Type NEEDS a rework (make it regular type first pls)
I think that line was only added to explain how you can Terastalize in the DLCs despite them being set in different regions. I doubt we'll see Terastalization again. And if we do I hope they at least make it look completely different. Because right now it looks completely shit. Easily the ugliest gimmick of all times
@@EskChan19 Briar said "Starting from Unova" which means, she's going further with her research, than only Blueberry Academy.
I disagree with redesign. While it looks goofy. It should stay this way. However they could introduce Teraforms, Khu mentioned long time ago.
Stellar isnt a new type though, to my knowledge it was always advertised as a new Tera type
itll be nice when we move to gen 10 and tera blast/teratype just replaces Hidden Power.
I mostly use it for Tera raids, makes em real ez
Serperior uses stellar tera greatly due to the fact its ability increases the drops from the tera blast.
I've done this plenty of times with my stellar tera arceus. And yes the one time boost per move type doesn't apply to terrapagos or pokemon in raids
On paper, Terapagos is pretty dope, VGC wise, you just have better options
I only put it on one pokemon, and only for the 'prestige' of it as she's my ribbon master. I don't actually use it at all, even casually.
Terra teropagos is usefull in raids.
terapogos is actually quite good in VGC regulation G. the reason you think its bad is probably because youre used to it's ability being randomized in then we fight vids, either being a 485 bst mon or a 600 bst normal with a mid stat spread
The only thing I do with Stellar is with buffing some of my Raid mons so they have a better matchup than if they were a single-type.
they might put a support / heal type if there is 2 v 2 pokemon battles where their move set heals, protects and boost partner pokemon. maybe 3v3 poke battles?
speaking on gimmicks that pokemon can use. why isn't there a series of moves that people can pick that will counter the faster pokemon. so like regieleci against a pincer (assuming pincer is slower than than regieleci) if pincer picks the parry move then the regieleci would take damage instead of pincer and then both moves are used. like a hidden protect. but then if the move misses then the parry move would miss. and could have many types for thos gimmick like poison parry or sleep parry or stun parry. then the elements like burn parry and freeze parry so the status effect happens instead of the damage, which would make people think twice on attacking if the opponent had a parry picked but the parry move doesn't connect if the other pokemon sets up with like sword dance or clam mind. so it's mind games at that point.
Stellar Bidoof:"My time has come"😂
What if it neutralized each weakness once, as well? Taking regular damage from one CC or Moonblast could be all the difference.
As a dragon fangirl, I wasn't keen on the Fairy type. But its fine now. As for mega evolutions, I've never actually been a fan. Never really used it. I'm not a fan of something so temporary. Though I did like the Gigantamax forms, as its just fun to go all Kaiju. xD
We don't need more types. Bring back fun old mechanics, like secret bases. xD
Stellar type is only good to give STAB with coverage moves, but it only works once per type. For Pokemon with lots of coverage, it’s great, but it’s very niche. In VGC, though, it’s best to use regular Tera types
It doesn't even give STAB, that's normally 1.5x. it gives 1.2x lol, which isn't nearly as impactful
Gen 8: gives a move strong against its gimmick
Gen 9: gives a move strong against its gimmick
I do love that terpagos isn't broken its just an innocent reality warping turtle that so happens to control every single type 😅. It's also one of my favorite normal types along with Hisuian Zoroark.
So since stellar has no weaknesses doesn't that mean a team that may not have counters to specific pokemon can stwlkar with sash explosion? Not in vgc but smoking or traditional singles battles
Expert Belt or Life Orb for Stellar seem okay. Stellar does suck, obviously, but if you have a mon with great coverage it can do something here and there.
I would try Expert Belt Porygon Z or Assault Vest [something good] with Tera Stellar before burying the type
Stuff that use assault vest can also benefit from terra stellar, i guess.
I use an assault vest baxcalibur and stellar seems atleast feasible.
It would’ve been cool if stellar type swapped your resistances and weaknesses all together
I mean, I don't play, and I didn't thought of it at first, but what about tera blast with contrary?
That would make it better since it gives you a boost instead of lowering your stats, but it still has the disadvantage that every type is only boosted once, so Tera Blast is still only good once really.
If they make a morbius 2 he’s definitely gonna say it’s morbin time at least once
I only give the Stellar type to Pokemon that should natively have it, like Deoxys or Minior. They should have introduced either the Light or Sound type.
How does he do it? He is always reacting to videos I recently watched. How does he manage this! I feel like I’m being stalked 🤣
*IT’S MORBILLION TIME*
It's so weird that everyone day Tea-Rapa-Gos. Because it's the origin of Tera it would make so much more sense for it to be pronounced Tera-Peg-Os
Because its name also comes from "Galápagos", as in the islands where Charles Darwin did his famous natural selection studies on finches and turtles.
I think the only way it can be used an a fun way is in Metronome battles since there is the possibility of using all types :D
i kinda feel like i want gen 10's gimmic to just be that they bring back gems as 30% boosts. they warped gen5 as a 50% boost, but Gen 5 also just had the problem that Dragons were the only counter to dragons. Gems, Tera, Mega evolution, and the retired form of Terastalization should make a diverse metagame.
24:40 isn't Urshifu dark type? So its the aame buff as a dark type tera for the first attack?
It could be somewhat ok with assault vest? considering you can't have status moves with it
I was blown away. Didn't even play the dlc, no one talks about this type lol
The only thing I would change about the stellar type, is give the boosts it already gives every turn. That’s all I would change
But then every time you use a move that does neutral damage it would be like a super effective damage every time which wouldn't be fair
I would like a new type added and/or some retooling of the current type chart in Gen 10 to refresh it, especially since Stellar doesn’t break the game and it feels like GF’s current crew is trying a bit more to make more balanced gimmicks.
What chance did Stellar have? Most tera options provide triple STAB already, and it's permanent.
15:54 what stay on field in VCG counter point
I want to use stellar tera but there's no good reason to, the defensive benefits of teraing into a different type will always outweigh a weak boost to all types, once per type
And if you have a pokemon like garchomp with stellar you'll still be 4x weak to ice type attacks. Or even worse lunala with stellar tera type being 4x weak to both ghost and dark type attacks
I already saw this video and now I’m just watching a reaction of a video because the video is good
You know, I actually feel bad for Patterrz considering he lost his run yesterday to giovanni's veluza.
(Edit: This was his radical red nuzlocke)
He needed 18 minutes and you needed 34 to say, "It's intrinsically tied to a gimmick that won't last to the next games?"
Gamefreak: we're not putting the battle frontier into the gen 3 remakes because its too difficult and complicated for the audiencd
Alao gamefreak: Stellar type
I had no idea about this till now
Now i'm just wondering, How does metronome deal with stellar type..?
Maybe assault vest turtle can do something.... Maybe.....
At 12:08 u make a mistake here, 80 to 100 is a 20 base increase, to get % it should be 20/80 which is 25%, which mean ur sentence is incorrect
ik this is old but i have to point it out
>introduces terra type that only boosts moves once per type
>Nidoking isn't in the game
Also, would be great on Lurantis on paper due to Contrary. The issue is that Lurantis has terrible staying power in battles.
Oh and Malamar, which has Close Combat.
Sound is kinda like a type more like a sub type as we have song based moves
This is the first I've even heard about Stellar type
I won't lie, I thought Stellar was way better than it was. I thought that the one move per type boost was for every use of that specific move ie, if you used ice beam, all of your ice beams would get the boost, but if you then clicked blizzard it wouldn't. I also thought it had the same 50% boost.
Sadly that effect only applies to terapagos, or any pokemon in a raid battle. It doesn't apply to trainer battles or wild battles
So any mon with tera stellar with HA Contrary could potentially sweep?
Crazy theory, lemme just pull out my tin foil hat for this one,
What if “Stellar” type will be more refined when Megas are reintroduced🤔.
@aka1721 honestly I liked Tera well enough
My only real issue was that it felt like it wasn't until Disk that getting shards was actually reasonable, so only for my Disk team did I actually bother with Tera type strats (tho I did make my Skeledirge a dragon type with the free 50 you get it base game)
May not Knockthem out but could damage a lot of Pokémon for a different pokemon to finish the job
12:06 Thats a 25% increase Mr Patterz not 20%. QUICK MATHS !
