A great, comprehensive review, as always. It didn't leave me with any questions. Well done.
Thank you mate :)
Having an AMD Legion 7 myself, I have probably leaned AMD a bit, but think I have begun to change my mind somewhat when they just dropped their competitive GPU line for laptops. But what I wanted to say was that the comparison doesn't seem quite fair when you get a better GPU to compensate for the lower price of the CPU, but then don't use the tuning tools that comes on the Intel-version.
Thank you for your review, quite in-depth and helps me choose especially the part about build quality.
very solid review, thanks!
Thanks for the review. Well done video! I went w the Intel 5i Pro as a desktop replacement. I'm a casual gamer so minor graphical differences are not a big deal to me. A great gaming/everyday laptop at a $1,500 price point.
Great review as always 💯 :)
Thank you for posting, I’m looking at this laptop, so it’s good to have such a practical analysis. The Ryzen version looks liker a great choice for a gamer, but maybe a creator would like a few more QOL features for their daily use.
thinking about buying one, but what do the temps look like on the amd cpu while web browsing and such?
Very good video nice and professional thank you.
You deserve more subs
Hi there, I’m planning to get this legion pro 5 with the AMD processor but I’m worried about that cpu temp, it even reaches 100c on some games. Is that normal? Or should I just get the asus ROG strix G16 with rtx 4060 variant? Please let me know, thanks!
THANKS FOR DOING THIS REVIEW! FINALLY SOMEONE WHO MADE A COMPARISON BASED ON VALUE OF MONEY . exactly what i had in mind!
So glad to be able to help :)
@@MashITTech just bought the Acer Predator Helios Neo 16 i7-13700HX, more value for money, but still gotta say that if legion and predator same price for the same spec, i would definitely choose legion as the UI/software look so much more crisp
Lenovo's wave of mega silent firings in early 2023 were absolutely despicable. They laid of thousands of really great people after posting record profits and bragging about moving up the Forbes list each quarter in their "All Hands" NA org sales meetings to those people that moved the needle for them. They ruined thousands of people's lives, especially those that relocated and even bought new homes during the peak of covid when Lenovo asked for their dedication to support and grow the business. Their warranty process is atrocious and considered terrible by anyone who has had to deal with service claims on top of this.
watching this on my Legion Pro 5 7745HX with 4070 🔥
Hope you are enjoying it 👍
how are you liking it?
How are the temps in games. It reaches 100 most times that I have seen. Also is your ryzen cpu able to do content creation task easily since PPL generally go for Intel in that case .
Bro how much did you pay?
It is not a UK thing, in my country, Malaysia also comes with 5200Mhz DDR5 for the Ryzen 7 and 4800Mhz for the Intel version
Thinking of getting this as an upgrade to my almost 4 year old Dell g3 i7 with 1660ti. Seems to be good value.
Nice review. New to your channel. I found the whole video useful but I recommend adding time stamps in the future if possible.
Thanks mate, we usually do, I am not sure how I missed that one
iGPU was in use right ? not the nvidia one ? 13:51
I bought my T14 three years ago thanks to your review of it. Great to see you're still around.
Haha that was my first video! Hopefully the production quality has improved over that 3 years 😂 how is the t14 holding up?
@@MashITTech Oh yes! You can really feel the work that goes into these videos. Congratulations on that. As for the computer, so far so good. I had to have the motherboard replaced a year ago but fortunately, as it's a Thinkpad, everything was covered by the warranty. They even added an extra 8gb of memory for free.
haha the extra 8gb is a nice bonus. That is one of the benefits of buying Lenovo with premium warranty (or dell XPS/alienware for that matter).
@@MashITTech yeah, I was pleasantly surprised!
Great review!
Glad you enjoyed it
@@MashITTech If you say midrange gaming, I have in mind LOQ 16i, which with 4060, i7-13620H, 3 year on-site warranty, came to just under 1050 Pounds.. I tried LOQ 15 in Currys, really nice build, nothing creaks, open a poop load of TH-cam videos playing same time on 1440p, several windows also, wanted to hear how loud fans will get-I did not hear anything even after 15, and CPU was at 6% load only, CPU and GPU temps 51 Celsius.. fully respectable, so not sure , besides more premium build and design that Pro 5 will perform better... But yes, they are all grand laptops.. Maybe 4050 in LOQ would make it look less strong against 5 Pro..
How does this computer support Corona Render? How many hours does it take to render?
Did Lenovo discontinue the regular Legion 5 non pro version?
Hi! Is it possible to downvolt the amd version?
Im thinking about buying a Legion Pro 5 AMD version. Non-Blackfriday price in Sweden is £2286 and blackfriday price is £1484. Question is, is it a good price and is it worth the money?
Great video bro. Love it. You need to make videos on Acer predator Helios neo 16
I will take a look but I have 5 laptops sitting in the studio waiting for a review 🤣
@@MashITTech alright mate 👍
thats a CPU limitation for i5 and i7 13th gen HX which only supports RAM Up to DDR5 4800 MT/s & Up to DDR4 3200 MT/s. you need to get the i9 for support of higher RAM speeds
Great video ❤
Thank you!!
Hey, why doesnt it have HYBRID MODE off switch?
How about airpods connect by blootoohs? Is it work nice or bad?
that's a good looking laptop
In the UK the AMD Alienware M16 is now under £1600 so now deciding between that and a Legion 5. Also X16 is under £1900, so seems pretty pointless to judge Alienwares by their initial pricing for the first couple of months.
Yes, I spotted the price drops! it is about time, there were quite over priced on launch. The m16 is a solid unit and I would probably take that over the x16 just for the better cpu and upgradable ram
I believe that the i5-13500hx limits ram speeds to 4800mhz, whereas the 7745hx doesn’t. My i7-13700hx does the same, so I believe that the only way to get faster ram speeds with the intel version is to go with an i9.
Thanks for the great comparison, though! I initially thought that the 4060 and 4070 were *much* closer in performance!
However, since the 4060 laptop card is the exact same as the 4060 desktop card, I’d be very interested to see how the 4070 mobile stacks up against a desktop 4060ti (8gb) after seeing these results. I’ve been wondering for awhile, yet there still isn’t a *single* video comparison on TH-cam, which I find odd. The 4070(m) draws less power (115watt vs 160watt) and runs at a slightly lower frequency, but also has more cuda cores (4608 vs 4352), as well as more TMU’s, tensor cores as well as RT cores. All things considered, I think that would make for a great comparison! My guess, is that the 4070(m) is *slightly* less powerful than the 4060 ti due to power/frequency limits, but all of its other specs are better on the 4070(m), so who knows! 🤷♂️
Would that be a video you’d ever consider doing?
@stefdezy1562 hey I am thinking to buy the pro 5i with i7 4060 …. What’s your experience with it ?
@@dsp5555did you buy it?
@@davidk4082 Yeap I did I bought the intel version with i7 13700hx 4060
@@dsp5555 how are you liking it? I have the g14 but thinking of returning it for a 5i.
i litreally love this thing. I had tested various laptops before buying this, and g14 was one of the worst experience the small track pad , small battery, no pd on type c . If u thinking between 5i and g14 i would recommend 5i 100%.
My review - Laptop gives excellent performance and gpu overclock option in vantage app is cherry on top. But my cpu was reaching 97-98 c on the first day and after adding cooling pad and making some changes in vantage apps keeps it below 90 for most of the games.
I play valo , fortnite, modern warfare.

Sir can you please tell me what is the clock speed of 7745hx after disabling cpu turbo boost?
I just picked up the legion slim 7i laptop. I'm confused by the hybrid integrated and dedicated graphics modes. I tried running the time spy benchmark, but it's only running off the Intel graphics. Should I just keep it on dGPU? And what would that cost me?
Only saying what i saw from jarrods vid, in the graphics settings or something you can choose whether you want to use hybrid which uses dGPU when plugged and unplugged iGPU. Dedicated GPU takes away power real fast and iGPU makes you a longer battery kife(so instead of using youtube for 1 hour you can use it for 5-6)
i noticed in 2023 thinner laptops are getring thinner and thicker laptops are getting thicker. You know what i mean🤔
What do you mean?
few previous laptops which are thinner got a bit thicker
I had so bad expirences with amd in the past
Amd GPU shitting its pants right out of the box made me a hater...unbox ur new GPU and its bricked gg nope
While customizing, the intel version only had the white backlit option for some reason.
oh weird, we had 4 zone colour in UK!
Your review was great.

sadly, 3-4hrs light use! about 1-1.5 light gaming :(

Great review! I have one with 7745hx :) good machine in general. Don’t you know, is there any possibility to undervolt it? Thanks ps. I’m a bit disappointed with power consumption in idle mode… even if cpu has 0-1% load it still consumes 7-10 Watts, it can fall down to 4 Watts but really rare. Don’t you know about Intel? Does it also spin fans on idle?
I am still playing with it but I haven't found a way yet. Will keep you posted though. I love the fact it sits at 5ghz in games, that really helps performance. idle consumption is a real shame and leads to its poor battery life this year, I wonder if that is a byproduct of the increased cpu performance this year
Any update on how to undervolt the cpu?
Is the review about the Razer Blade 14 cancellen?
Nope, working on it atm. Should be out next week.
on what resolution did you do the gameplay test with?
1600p ig
I wonder why the AMD version doesn’t have advanced Optimus. Most of the 2023 ones do. That HX chip is too power hungry though. A 7940HS might’ve actually been pretty good here.
yeah no idea why no advanced Optimus on ryzen! And you are right, the 7940HS would have been a good option. They offer a Ryzen 9 7945HX at least
Apparently Ryzen + HDR + Advanced Optimus don't play nice together so that's went the AMD version doesn't have advanced Optimus. If you got the regular non HDR screen advanced Optimus should work
@@MrLawlessGaming what’s weird is neither does the new Legion Slim 5 14” with the AMD HS chips, yet the Asus Zephyrus G14 has it and it works great, even on the HDR displays.
Nice review. I have question though, if you can answer please. Can we upgrade this laptop to 64 GB?
haha that's good timing! I just put out a video upgrading the SSD and RAM :) th-cam.com/video/q_4NPOvpcks/w-d-xo.html
would a ram diference from 5200mhz to 5600mhz be noticeable?
I plan to buy the ryzen version but isn't 90 degrees on the cpu a bit too much? rhe high temps doesnt affect its life span?
no, these AMD chips are designed to be able to run at just over 100c, 90 is fine! the intel is even hotter :)
Hi mate,I’m looking at this on the uk site,iv no clue about pc gaming, getting my son one for Christmas, wat would be better just for gaming the 4060 i7 intel or 4060 ryzen 7
For pure gaming get which ever one is cheaper, usually the ryzen. Ryzen had slightly better games performance but it was so close it wasn’t noticeable
@@MashITTech ok will do thanks for the help 👌🏻
well, the lid is metal and intel's 13th gen i5 and i7 are capable of running 4800MHz RAM that's their limit where as ryzen 7000 series doesn't support ddr4 but 5200MHz RAM and should run 5600 as well but idk about it, furthermore in most of the titles like rdr 2, forza horizon 5 balanced mode gives same performance for better temps as far as I have noticed
Are you sure the lid is metal? mine felt plastic, I will double check. Also 4800mhz is not the limit on 13th gen, it was for 12th gen. I have the blade 16 and legion pro 7i both running at 5600mhz. I have just ordered some 5600mhz fury to try and bump this 5i to 5600mhz! I will let you know how it goes.
The 13th gen runs 5600Mhz RAM
@MP422ownz That's partially true. Check the intel specs. The 13500H and 13700HX do not support more than 4800MT/s while the 13700H and every 13th Gen i9 support more than 4800MT/s.
And @hsuyaager8557 Not every 7000series supports 5200MT/s, but all the Ryzen configurations for Lenovo Legion 5 Pro do.
I just bought a legion slim 5 RTX4050 6GB/ RYZEN 7 7840HS. What is your opinion?
haven't tested it but I love legion slims and pros, great machines
I have a lenovo legion 5 pro i5 13500hx rtx 4060 and the idle consumption is about 25-30 watts, I changed the version of the Windows system and drivers, but it doesn’t help, is this a warranty case? If there are no special complaints about its operation, except for battery life
it sounds like the Nvidia card is active! have you got a program polling the card? afterburner or monitor software are often culprits
Lenovo 16" Legion Pro 5i is on sale now at USD1250 (RTX 4060, 32GB RAM, 1TB SSD, 240 Hz QHD IPS Display). Is it a better buy over ROG Zephyrus G14 2023 (16GB RAM, RTX 4060, 512GB SSD) at the same price ?
I would say so unless you really need that 14" portability.
Literally cannot makeup my mind. I have a Legion 5 Ryzen 7 (15ARP8) but just bought the Pro 5i with an i7 at a bargain. Love the larger 16:10 screen, but hate the huge power cord and seems the i7 is way overpowered for the 4060 and my needs. I literally would swap the i7 for the less powerful but more efficient Ryzen 7735HS in the 2023 Pro 5i body in a heartbeat for its better thermals and battery life.
I guess my best option for thermals, power mgmt and 16:10 would be the Legion Slim, only thing is they cost more for less RAM/SSD. :(
in india, there is price difference of 10,000INR(120USD according to conversion) between AMD 7745hx and i7 13700hx variant(Intel i7 is more expensive by 120USD). rest of the specifications are exactly same mentioned on the website. if budget allows both then which should be a better deal.

well like you said, its a good looking laptop :)
Can you plug it in and connect it to a monitor and use it as a gaming desktop pc without issue?
you most certainly can and all the heat for the exhaust is vented out the back so its possible to run this laptop with the lid closed. Gary, my editor ran a 2020 Legion 7 for over 2 years like this for the majority of our video editing and the machine is still running strong
@@MashITTech that’s great, also on the product website for where I’m looking to buy it it doesn’t say what refresh rate the monitor is, is it 1440p 144hz?
As long as its this years Legion Pro 5/5i it will either have the 2560x1600 165hz or 240hz panel. The 240hz is the better panel in colour and speed but both are good panels and 500 nits of brightness
@@MashITTech I think this model may be the 165hz because the price is lower than I would expect, it’s 1799 Canadian. It doesn’t state in the specifications if it’s 240hz, I would assume not since it’s the 16gb pro5 4070 model
well the 165hz is great and if it turns out to be 240hz then its an even better deal :)

Haha thanks mate, not often I get a compliment for being British 😂
Looks like I have found my next laptop, the only thing that saddens me is the insane difference between amd and intel version and the lack of thunderbolt.
But come on, how can you launch a product in 2023 with 16 gb or RAM !?!?
to be fair, I chose 16gb as I planned to upgrade it myself as it is so much cheaper. A lot of the configs had 32gb. I was really impressed with the performance of the ryzen, hitting 5ghz when gaming really helps getting high fps on games that are mostly single threaded
@@MashITTech Thanks for the reply, that makes a lot of sense,i thought it was just because you chose two builds that cost th same. Personally I prefer intel for my desktop pc but I think for a laptop AMD makes a lot of sense, especialyl when the bang for buck is this good.
Yeah I did try and keep them both to the same £1400 budget, you just get a lot more for your money with amd! The charge from 16 to 32gb at Lenovo was more than I can buy a high spec 32gb 5500mhz kit so it seemed like a no brainer 😀👍
@@MashITTech Can you upgrade to faster RAM in the Intel version? I thought I spotted a vid a while back where you did just that to test if it works but when I went back to watch it later, I couldn't find it.
which one u think is better?legion 5pro (7745hx 4070 32ram)or slim 7i (i9 13900h 4070 16ram)with the second 50$less?

Wow Legion 4070 actually 120-130 watts D: I thought 4070 was limited to 100 wattts
yeah, it wasn't constant but was nice to see! I never get that high on the blade 14
Yeah, I have the 4070 version (with an i7-13700hx), and I’m still always surprised when my GPU wattage jumps up to the advertised *140watts,* even if it’s just for a split second or two.
I previously had *two* other 4070 notebooks (which both needed to be returned), and they never even came close to 140watts (usually hovering around 100watts). For some reason, the legion 5i pro seems to do a much better job at using the full 115watt tdp, as well as even surpassing it into 120-130watts with cpu boost quite frequently.
Guys, can the 7745HX variant be undervolted ?
I haven’t found a way yet!
Thank you for the video.
Is 250-300€ difference worth it to get 4070 instead of 4060 ? Or for the price difference and 20% more perf, it is too much money ?
For me no, I would rather push uptown a 4080 as that is a real jump in performance. I have been using the 4060 at 1600p and with the right settings it has played every game I own well, the extra few frames you would get from the 4070 is not worth the extra cost IMHO

I bought a Legion 5i Pro with i7 13700HX 16 core 24 threads, 16Gb 4800MHz DDR5, 1Tb m.2 nvmE ssd, 16" 240Hz 2560*1600 100% SRGB screen, 4-zone RGB Lenovo Truestrike keyboard, RTX 4070 140W TGP. 🙂 I paid 1 723.79 USD.
wow! that's an insane price!
@@MashITTech Yeah. 🙂
I have the same laptop and I paid 1490€
My question is does anything beat it at this price
not in my opinion! Legion pro 5 if you want a 4060/4070 or legion 7 if you want a 4080/4090. Best bang for buck laptops out there
I got this laptop and I like it very much. What should I do?
with regards to using it or upgrades?
Good afternoon.I don't know much English. And on the internet, there is not a single video review of laptop data in my language.I would like to ask your opinion so that you can recommend it?
Laptop Lenovo Legion Pro 5 16IRX8 i7-13700HX 16" WQXGA 240Hz 32GB
1000SSD RTX4060
Price 2 224,38€
Lenovo Legion Pro 5 laptop 16" WQXGA, 240 Hz, AMD Ryzen 9 7945HX, 32 GB RAM, 1 TB SSD, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070
Price 2050€
I choose a laptop for studying at the school of graphic design.I apologize if I made mistakes.
Thank you for your help🤝
no, your English is very good 👍 Take the Ryzen with 4070 for the cheaper price! the ryzen CPU is fantastic and very efficient and the 4070 is a fair bit better than 4060 plus its actually cheaper!
Lenovo should stop soldering the Ram altogether for all models.
As much as I agree, it’s not just Lenovo, all manufacturers do it on the slimmer laptops. Fortunately these legions all have 2 ram slots 👍
I buy the 2024 LEGION PRO 5-16IRX G9 i7-14700HX & 4070 for 1,799€
that's a good price! Hope you enjoy it.
@daniilchilt14j91 also bought the same thing and it'll be delivered soon
, how's the lap?
@@kirubhanandanjothi5031 for me is Perfect! Only Battery Life is very short but for ist ok I use it only pluggedin, In school and home
Hi what you will chose between Pro 5 and Slim 7 if price are similar, I don’t mind battery and portability, thanks 😀
If it’s pure gaming I would get the pro 5, if it’s work and play then the slim 👍
@@MashITTech Just casual gaming ,all in all a better laptop and i seen Slim 7 it is more premium aluminium build ,reviews are better on Slim 7 , thank you ❤
yes, I would get the slim in that case:)
@@MashITTech Thanks again ,all the best :D
Let me confirm this, it’s full plastic from top to bottom?
the top lid is metal but the base and palm rest is all plastic
So can you undervolt Ryzen as well? Video implies that you can not.
I haven't yet found a tool that will allow me to undervolt it :(
Hey which one you prefer
1-lenovo legion 5 rtx 4060 ryzen 7 7735hs
2-lenovo legion 5i rtx 4060 ryzen 7735h
Both similar in price a bit
can you check your second option did you mean 13700h?
@@MashITTech no I swear the posted a laptop in Instagram which says Lenovo legion 5i Ryzen 7 7735h rtx 4060 for 1099$,also Lenovo legion 5 Ryzen 7 7735hs rtx 4060 for 1150$.
I read as the picture said and I don't know do iam wrong?
5i is always intel, 5 is ryzen
@@MashITTech I feel they typed that wrongly, but do you think Ryzen 7 7735h better or Ryzen 7 7735hs,also do you think 1099$ good price for that ? It is new laptop with 16gb and 512gb SSD 2k screen
@@MashITTech ?
The thing about 4070m is that there isn't much difference from 4060m. 4060m is a beast. I wouldn't go for 4070m unless it's the same price as it literally performs only 5~10% faster. 4070m to 4080m is a huge jump though.
totally agree. I would only get the 4070 if its 50-100 higher, anymore its just not worth it. I bought my blade 14 with the 4060 as I knew I would be keeping it for myself and it hasn't let me down
I'd say although the Ryzen version did technically win, there was no winner or at least a draw, which we could all see.
there is definitely no clear winner except in the wallet department this year (which is a really good thing as AMD cpus have historically lagged behind in the mobile space).
20 fps on Cyberpunk?
that was with the crazy maxed out ray traced settings
But does it run Crysis?
😂 I really hope so!
I love how all the reviewers assume we are all 16 year olds to 25 year olds who not only have the funds but credit to finance one of these and play video games all day on them, when in reality its more like professionals with money and credit who work in and around tech/software/engineering/web design...etc.
where and how did I assume you would be 16-25? I am in my forties so don't make such assumptions as I would also buy these laptops for work and play.
At this point you can get the Intel with the 4070 for $1400.
That’s a good price!
@@MashITTech Yeah so your review made it a good choice. 👌
Which one would you buy?
Legion 5i pro I7 13700hx RTX 4070
or
Dell G16 I9 13900hx RTX 4070
Same price and same specs for the rest.
Legion every time! the i7 can be undervolted in the legion so will perform better than the i9 in the g16. Screen is also much better on the legion
@@MashITTech well I was about to buy Dell so I'm confused now 🙂
Screen is very important for me, so I need to think about it carefully.
Thank you!
Sorry to throw a spanner in the works 😂
@@MashITTech well I tell you this... I'm quite basic with PC and I don't need a beast, but today Black Friday made everything weird here where I live (Italy). It serms that all the I7/I9/RTX4060/4070 combinations are almost the same price, so I thought it could be good to buy a new laptop (which I really need) and a top level one (yeah I know, top is something else, anyway).
And since I've been a Dell user for very long time...
@@MashITTech oh I forgot... The Legion screen is much brighter than the Dell's, but the latter is DCI-P3 100% vs sRGB 100%, so has a wider color gamut.
