    and another super helpful video. I was going to ignore downscan and use the space on screen for 2D and sidescan only, but I guess I have to reconsider.... also perfect short explanation of the fact that the returns in that depth or not because of a high density of the water itself, but the fact that some debris will stop sinking when it hits that water with more salt in it. I watched recently a lot of sonar videos (deciding which to use to explain all that stuff to my 10 year old kids) and I will defintly go with yours! Perfect footage, super understandable explanations to understand HOW the sonar works, no bullshit, just 100% super helpful. And best: it works for every brand that way, no focus on menu or stuff, just the physics behind it without the need to be a physician to understand it. I bow in respect. Mean it bro ;)

    Thank you for the videos on the NSS Evo 3. I bought a boat last year with those electronics and it is a challenge to learn the system and get your numbers dialed in, which I was never really able to do. Please keep more of these instructional videos coming. One question if I may. A lot of the time my screen would show yellow objects on the ocean floor. On the screen I thought it may have been rocks as it was the same yellow object one after the other after the other. Nothing stacked. Is it just that I may have had my colors set wrong or could that have been bottom fish such as flounder?

    • @MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS
      @MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’m glad you like the videos brother!! More are definitely coming!!
      They absolutely can be fish on the bottom like flounder. The sonar ping shows the air bladder in the fish more than anything. Fish like flounder can lay right on the bottom but that bladder gives them away every time!!
      If you want to send me a pic or screenshot I can tell you what i think it is.

    Hello, I have enjoyed watching the six videos on sonar for dummies. Do you have any tidbits on freshwater fishing for crappie in 10 to 20 ft of water? I have a Lowrance Hook 5, and I'm definitely a sonar dummy, I have the T-shirt.

    Great videos. Thanks. What are the groups of streaks on 2D in most examples that are above or to right of objects that run up and to the right? Looks like for most part nothing shows up on downscan for those.

    • @MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS
      @MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks brother!! Those are bubbles. 2D is very sensitive to any type of air in the water. 👍👍

    • @benjiistre6546

      Makes sense. Caused by water current?

  • @bobbreckenkamp4641

    Probably a dumb question, but on my Humminbird Mega SI units I often pick up long and very straight lines that rise from the bottom at 45 degrees (rising from left to right on screen), similar to what you show at 3:00 just right of the tree. Except the lines I typically pick up are very straight. They usually go from the bottom towards the surface but never to the surface. Any idea what this may be? A setting? Thanks! FANTASTIC VIDEOS....keep em coming please!!

    • @MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS
      @MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      They are probably just bubble. They usually leave the cone before hitting the surface. 👍👍

    I went with a Lowrance Elite FS. Since Simrad and Lowrance are owned by same company, can I assume the technology in both units are similar? Also, how do they compare to Humminbird for side imaging? I see a lot more videos made with Humminbird than I do with Simrad or Lowrance, and generally the Hummingbird side scans look better than the ones I'm seeing on my Lowrance? Thanks

    • @MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS
      @MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Same company and similar units. Software is the same, but if you’re on saltwater or want more adjustments go with Simrad. Lowrance is a bit simpler. HB has great side scan, but Simrad is the top of the heap and miles ahead in every other department. Simrad’s side scan has been as good or better in the last 2-3 years now.

      Hello Mike
      Really appreciate the videos. Great job!! Is there a better transducer for down and side images instead of active imaging transducer like airmar makes for 2d
      sonar? Thank you

    • @MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS
      @MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Active Imaging is the best side scan I have seen in any version. Airmar doesn’t have any type of side scan or down scan directly from them, no. Thanks for the comment brother!

      This is a less expensive model. It’s a great unit, but more of a super high end weekend fishermen MFD. it can do it all. amzn.to/2XCVw8g

    Mike can you tell me the biggest difference’s between the HDS and TI2 units, please? I’m wanting to upgrade but not sure which one is right for me as an avid weekend angler.
    Thank you, Sir!

    • @MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS
      @MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Mark, I’m not as up on the Lowrance side as I am on the Simrad side but the Ti2 is a good weekend unit, it has lots of great features packed in it. The HDS is much more “high end”. You can use multiple transducers, you can run CHIRP and Side scan simultaneously, the screen resolution and clarity is a lot stronger, it has more settings and adjustments, it’s faster, it can run more powerful transducers. You can also network multiple displays and control MotorGuide trolling motors. I’m not positive, but I don’t think you can network the Ti2 as far as sharing transducers, radar, etc.
