The words came out of my mouth wrong when I was talking about Ubisoft's actions in the past. Watching it back I realize I only used the word "questionable," and that absolutely does not cover it. I'm not going to talk about all of the allegations against them, but I should have at least used the word "horrible." I just want everyone to know that. What they did was truly awful, and I will never try to downplay it.

The first gamedid absurdly well in sales due to all the frequent discounts it has, so the sequel should be fine.
It does kinda seem like that since the game is looking like it's putting less focus on Mario stuff and more focused on creating its own new world and characters.
One thing I really enjoy is that they gave the characters from the old game new weapons. It makes the game feel a little fresh, even if the functionality is more or less the same.
I wholeheartedly agree. I was geeking out when I saw Mario dual-wielding blasters.

Someone’s already said this, but the cutscenes in this look great. I hope that Illumination’s Mario Movie looks this good, but I don’t know what to expect.
Just cut the budget in half, subtract the charm and creativity, and add in some flossing and 10 year old pop music and we're golden.
Even as a Despicable Me/Minions fanboy, the Mario movie is in some really hot water now compared to this.

If anyone remembers from a LOOOOONG time ago, Rabbids were originally meant to be alien invaders in a cancelled Rayman game. This new setting is probably the closest we'll ever get to that concept, if not what inspired the sequel to begin with.
One way to read the trailer seems to imply that rabbid genetics are very close to lumas’ and thats why the sparks are easily able to exist - so I actually really like your take on it.
@@serpentmaster1323 I think the funny thing about the whole "Lumas and Rabbids genetics mixing well" idea is that in the first Mario Galaxy at least, Lumas were in fact able to transform into Star Bunnies, and back. Guess Lumas and lagomorphs really go well together.
Another thing is that there's this Japanese folklore thing about a rabbit in the moon's surface (the moon of course being related to outer space), and both game franchises have explored connections between rabbits and the moon (Super Mario Odyssey, Rabbids Go Home), so that's also neat.
It's kinda that concept? I'm glad it's succesful. I just want 3D Rayman platforming adventures back. That original trailer you mentioned had me really excited back in the day. Then it was just a mini-game collection...
I thought that "cancelled" Rayman game was a thing on the Wii, "Rayman: Raving Rabbids". It was a mini game collection with an actual story.

I kinda like how the Rabbids are heading lately. They now have actual characters with their own voices and personalities and are less annoying than before. I never liked the Rabbids but this direction seems very interesting

Legitimately I think the Rabbids bring a lot to this formula, adding an almost needed level of Looney Tunes to Mario's kinda Disney flare.
I was thinking the exact same thing! The Rabbids Zaniness is a great compliment to the almost fairytale like settings of the Mario games.
Me too. I wish people would look past their gut reaction from 2006 when Rabbids messed up that Rayman adventure game and see that they have value behind them now.

I wish paper mario was more like this. All we get from the more recent paper Mario games is "oh look at this this! It's a goomba, but it's PAPER! Ooooooooh!" Sure there's a handful of original characters and designs and personality and creativity every once and a while, but I wish we could get more. It is true that placing limitations on yourself can allow you to get more creative, but it's a high risk, high reward situation. If your limitations are too strict, or you fail to get creative enough, it can hurt your game.
It’s weird that they let Ubisoft have creative freedom over their Mario property, but for Paper Mario under their own umbrella, they place a lot of restrictions. Breaks my heart.
They need to just stop making Paper Mario games altogether.

Remember, not everyone at Ubisoft is evil. A small portion of the people there made everything miserable for everyone, fans and devs alike.

This is my biggest request/criticism of the series so far. I'd like more Mario characters to be present, playable or not. Donkey Kong was a great addition in the first game, but he was only useable in this own chapter with like 4 rabbids. Hope to see more Mario characters in some form.
I mean, at the very least, the existence of Rabbid Rosalina kinda implies that Rosalina would also be in, and I imagine at least one other character would be introduced?

One of the rabbids in the trailer reminds me of captain toad, and since there seems to be a lot of galaxy inspiration I think he could be a potential character

One of the greatest feelings is beating a game for the first time and then seeing the sequel the same day. I've loved this game since I first got it last year all the personality and addictivity of the gameplay.
One thing I'm scared of is losing all the charm, music, and cutscenes that the first one had. But I feel it's a 60/40 chance because it looks like Ubisoft still knows they're doing
It's being made by the same people, so I'd say charm/music/cutscenes are a safe-ish bet.
But the gameplay is totally different this time, so that's actually what has me worried.
They still have Grant Kirkhope working on the soundtrack so we shouldn’t have to worry about that

The Sparks are clearly going to be equipable boosters, so they should be interesting.
My main hope will be seeing all 8 characters from the first back in this one.
And hopefully DK will be playable from the start and we won’t need DLC to play as him.

I cant wait for this. The new villain/entity looks awesome and I wanna know how bowser fits into all of this. Will he be a companion like in super paper mario, bowsers inside story, and origami king, or will he be a secondary villain like in ttyd. The only thing that concerns me about the story is like arlo said I want to know why they're in space now. I want the game to start in the mushroom kingdom and explain why they ended up in a ship. After that im sure the story will be fine

The very sad thing is that this scandal has had zero repercussions in how many Assassin's Creed, Far Cry or Rainbow Six copies have sold during the last years. Gamers don't care.

I think another reason why first sold as much as it did was it came out early in the switches life. Now that more people own one and heard about the first I think it will sell way better.

There’s this really small moment in the trailer where Mario gives Peach the stinkeye after she almost touches his shoulder that has me reeling because it’s such a small detail with so much tension with Mario characters for them to include in a reveal trailer. It’s happening in the still at 3:10. And the still really doesn’t do the while interaction justice. Seriously go back and watch for this if you like subtle animation details.

I thought that what you were talking about, could easily be explained by Mario reacting to the alarm going off. But then I watched the trailer again, and you're totally right! That is insane.
I like how different the game looks like it plays. The space setting is great, the villain looks nice and scary, and I'm definitely happy about Rabbid Rosalina.
Rabbids go home was amazing so when i played the original mario+rabbids two icons from my childhood teaming up was magical
this is the first time i've seen an arlo video a few minutes after it has come out *plus finding it in the morning* and I couldn't be happier
This is unrelated but, I just had the most fun I've had playing smash ultimate in a long time. I kept finding people that were actually at my skill level instead of fighting people that knew my next move even before I did. I lost a lot, but I never got angry because it felt like I actually had a chance and could tell exactly what I did wrong instead of being juggled around for 5 minutes and learning nothing

The best way to improve is to play people a little bit better than you. Getting stomped doesn’t teach you anything.

I understand voting with your dollar, but I think there’s so many genuinely wonderful people, even at those big companies you don’t like, that deserve some measure of success and support for these excellent games they’re making. Tons of movies we watch also are made by both good and bad people, but boycotting them hurts both. So I think it’s just best to acknowledge a company’s failures while still rooting for their future :)
While I understand that sentiment, the unfortunate reality is that most of the money and success that these games generate go directly to the people at the top of the company. Many of the managers and executives implicated in the sexual abuse case got to keep all their shares when they left the company, meaning when you buy this Mario and Rabbids sequel, most of that money is going straight to those same abusers.
Look at a company like Activision. Their games routinely make billions of dollars and yet they constantly fire hundreds of workers every year, often the same workers who made them those billions of dollars in the first place.
The idea that boycotting an abusive company EQUALLY harms both the executives and the workers, or the that buying games from these companies is the only way to provide security and safety to these developers, are both simply untrue.
I don't mind the rabbids, they're ok, buy yeah, I had the same feeling: can't we just have a Mario game? Better yet, can the team work on a proper Mario and Luigi RPG? This is really not that different
Nintendo kinda of prefers the safe route nowadays.

One of the reasons I found the first game a little tedious is that I felt like there were way too many battles all the time, that all took forever with only a little puzzle solving in the overworld to balance it out. This seems to totally be fixing that issue!

I'm glad for this franchise to continue and for this sequel tbh. Cinematic was amazing, the game is fun if you like the genre and the quality is visible. Moreover, Arlo, Rogueport's Underground it's really a nice touch in background

I believe the Rabbid Lumas “Or rather Sparks” are important to the plot because they’re said to be Rabbids combined with Lumas, they hold a massive amount of power thanks to the super merge from the first game

The gameplay in the first one was the major highlight for me. It really was incredible. The first game also felt held back by the mushroom kingdom. So with them having more confidence from Nintendo and being able to really let loose I'm so excited for this. Can't freaking wait

I should have bought the game when it had the discount from Mario 35. It was 15 bucks for the whole game and dlc. I keep on hearing good things about it.
Keep checking back. That game and its DLC go on sale about a dozen times a year for the same price. I paid full price when it came out and it was well worth it.
Definitely should've, mind you I'm not really an rpg guy and I loved that game, definitely one of the must plays on Switch
It goes for $15 plenty of times throughout the year, $20 with DLC
It feels almost guaranteed they'll put it on sale again soon to get people into it. I never picked up the Donkey Kong Adventure DLC so I still want that.

I have the first one at the top of my Switch backlog. This one will probably be a solid wait-to-see-if-it-reviews-well purchase.
You addressed my thoughts well. I'm happy it's not just more of the same and is done with a lot of creativity. Galaxy 2 just worked, but this is everything I want in a sequel.

7:20 I think this will be a little fire emblem echoes where you explore little areas and when an enemy runs into you, you engage in an overhead battle and after the little area it transitions to a world map
Every time I watch the gameplay demo for this game, it feels more and more like a new Mario RPG than just a tactics/strategy game with a bit of RPG elements. Being open world, with enemies on the field that you can choose to run into or try to avoid...I would assume a leveling up and exp system again like the first one...the characters feel more fleshed out and seem to really interact more from the CG video...all of this is just making me more and more excited that this could theoretically be taken as a new Mario RPG type thing. I so want to know more already!!
Mario galaxy is my favorite game so I'm happy with the galaxy characters being added
I bought the first game because I wanted to support a new venture with Mario so I'm pretty darn happy to see it get a sequel. I don't exactly love Rabbids by themselves but I have to admit the combination of them with Mario makes it much more appealing to me from both directions. For example, I'm actually not a big fan of Rosalina in the Galaxy games or other side games but I really liked the attitude they gave Rabbid Rosalina (much like how I enjoyed Rabbid Peach first). And of course having the Rabbids dress like Mario characters just with a different attitude is really fun to me for some reason. I haven't even fully beaten the first game but this will probably motivate me to do that.
I'm so happy to be excited for something new again, the last time I was even semi-excited for a new game was new horizon so I'm surprised to see it's Ubisoft that gave me this excitement
I like seeing Mario share the spotlight with other IPs. I've always gotten a weird vibe from Mario since he's such a big mascot for Nintendo
I've been praying for this sequel so much that when I saw the leak, I was in denial.
"No WAY they're actually making a second one" I said. Then the Ubiforward came. It got to the trailer . . .
and I screamed. Absolutely ADORED the first game, and to see them doing more with it is an ultimate dream come true for me.
Now I must pray it does e x t r e m e l y well. Cause I know for a FACT this game will deserve it.
Who knows, maybe even due to this the original can get some love as well.

The original was a sleeper hit for me - the first and only "tactical strategy turn based" game I have ever played in my life. I did once see x-com on sale but was put off from the gameplay videos that saw - complex, hit chances that were ridiculous (a 90% chance hit shot missing!), very complex character and weapon balancing more...
This however, was right up my alley. Simple enough to get in, relatable and creative world and characters, amazing music and all around a much more accessible and fun looking.
Turned out to be one of my all time favorite switch games, ever.
So I am very excited about this one coming out as well.

Paper mario is the ONLY series thats been put under that restriction. It makes no sense. Doesn't mean they cant make good games tho cuz origami king was great
If ubisoft can make a rabbid luma without issues there should be no reason why we can't have unique characters in paper Mario

I dunno man, today's the 13th.
Mario+Rabbids sold 2 million copies by the end of 2018 (it was released in like 2017).
Since then it has been on sale multiple times, sometimes for like...3-9 bucks or something.
I wouldn't be surprised if it's sold more than double by this point. Which, for a completely different style of game, is pretty good.
Ya know, I didnt play the 1st and I've consistently heard amazing things about it and this time around I really do wanna play it. Might get the 1st if its on sale to see what its about

I didn't know you worked with him or Nintendo. Oh wait...you don't?! that's what I thought. So gross and juvenile when people act like they know the inner machinations of a company, it's rules and it's employees, when they don't actually know anything except whats hearsay but treat it as fact.
@@jenerossitea9247 If Tanabe's gonna excuse criticism over Paper Mario's questionable decisions, transparency is one of the main bases for his stand regarding the series. When other titles developed under the same conditions break those standards Tanabe mentioned as limits, we know that he was lying. This is not the first time a Nintendo developer tries to stand out for a game due to its ego.
Devaluating my opinion just because I'm not working at Nintendo, even though what I mentioned is one of the most basic things about transparency, is such a weak argument compared to something that I didn't prove, but both Ubisoft and AlphaDream did. If you can't accept that, you shouldn't be here.
If ubisoft is able to make rabbid lumas then why can't the modern paper Mario games have unique looking goombas or koopas?
@@crichie21 Not only that, but Mario Tennis' final boss is an unique-looking Snowman (from Super Mario 64), it even summons other Snowmans during the battle.
I think is still have footage of my game glitching out with models. I wasn't sure if it was intentional until the models kept messing up during fights as well.
Also, I really like the use of the Paper Mario songs!
My favorite thing about Mario + Rabbids is that you can tell the team truly cares and has heart and passion for what they are developing. . . It's essentially a Nintendo team in the helms of Ubisoft.
Really enjoyed Kingdom Battle, and Sparks of Hope is only looking bigger and better. Day one.
Another cool thing is Grant Kirkhope is a composer for this game.
Same for the original. His work is always a masterpiece, can’t wait to hear him work his magic again! He’s already enchanted me with that Comet Observatory jingle from the trailer just by itself.

Never played any Rabbid Games but everytime I see them they always make me smile
The reason it’s in space is so we can have a rabbid rosalina and so it leads perfectly into Metroid prime 4.
With Bowser in the promo art I hope he's important this time. Jr. was cool as the villain but I'd love a playable Bowser of some kind!!
The first Mario and Rabbids game was definitely a hidden gem. That game was super super fun and I cannot wait to get my hands on this one! Gonna have to go replay the first one now
I loved the first one so much so , that every time i talked with anyone about good switch games i would mention this one and highly recommend it , it its definitely on my top 3 switch games list
I kinda hoped that Rayman made an appearance in the Trailer. I rellay thought rhey would finally do it
Rayman in Smash would be cool, but a platformer that’s also a crossover between Rayman and Mario would be even cooler. It doesn’t even need to be a platformer, it can be anything.
I'm so here for this game. I love the first and I'm a huge sci-fi nerd. This game is everything I could have dreamed for in a sequel that I wasn't sure would come. It just looks so beat ass!
Also, it just gets me thinking about all the other cool Mario spin-offs they could make...

The original was SO DANG GOOD I couldn't get enough of it but I had to move on because, you know... other games... and life.
I played the first one and loved it, bought the DLC for it, but still haven't played it... Now I really have to before the sequel releases.
I'm so excited, I hope Rosalina herself is also in and that they didn't cut the Yoshis, but apart from that, this looks so promising, can't wait to hear more about it and its release date in the future!
