This entire remake is a giant let down I don't know how anyone who grew up from the original can find anything related to it.
The Ever Crisis app game even does better and that's weird.

Perhaps I'm more easily entertained than others, there are certainly disappointing aspects to the remake series. That being said, I do enjoy it so far, mostly because of the gameplay and with the nostalgia tied in.
Haven't dipped my toes into Ever Crisis yet!

@@Brizzau I was obsessed with the original and maybe that's why my bias is so strong. I'm sure once the third part comes out I'll play all three through together and probably see it for what it is.
Thanks for the response, good video.

I'm really hoping they lean more into the gameplay aspects in part 3. But, I imagine they might do something crazy with the story that will have us all scratching our heads, lol.
and thank you for the kind words, my friend!

@@Brizzau Nomura is definitely surprising in everything he writes. I still love Advent Children and the current remake fits perfectly with that type of story. If it wasn't for the 97 version I would likely be obsessed with this current series. The visuals obviously are beyond words.

Definitely on Nomura... I am still struggling to understand Kingdom Hearts after all of these years lol. I fear that the story may turn away new potential fans.
I think it's really hard to recapture the magic of such a beloved game, as well. It's almost never going to stand up completely to the source material, in a way it's definitely a cash grab, especially being 3 separate games. Here's hoping they can deliver on part 3.

Nice vid but couldn't disagree more. 40 yo here also ff7 was my first story video game. How to put it in words...OG was The Godfather to re-trilogy being marvel cinematic universe.
A piece of art to a shill for numbers. Of course they got great elements from og so the game isn't really that bad. But compared to a great game like Bioshock or ff7 it is mediocre. It is compounded by it being a trilogy and all the padding plus pacing issues coming from it.
Rebirth is leagues better as a game from remake but remake has that depressing charm of og.
And wtf happened to the music. OG ost is legendary, remake is a great reedition and rebirth? While not being bad except few new tracks it's actually worse than them both.

I think the Godfather/Marvel comparison makes sense. They're certainly shooting for a more "complex" narrative with the multiverse bits... complex narratives really aren't their strong suit, I'd say, Kingdom Hearts being another good example of the limitations of this type of narrative from Square Enix.
Mostly, I find the overall gameplay loop enjoyable. Combat is fun, lots of cool boss fights and set pieces, these are the aspects they should lean into the most for part 3, in my opinion. I'm excited to see the Ruby/Emerald weapon and Safer Sephiroth fights, for example. I wouldn't call this a 10/10 by any means, there have been better games in the past 4 years than both Remake and Rebirth, but in terms of making something you can sink your teeth into and have some fun, I enjoyed it.

Hiring Christopher Nolan is a tall ask, but at this point I felt so frustrated and betrayed after playing through rebirth...that yeah, it's the only way I'll ever consider buying the last part of this game. The story telling was so odd...And I DID enjoy a lot of the game, but god the writing...esp just throwing away whole iconic parts of the OG was so numbing....

I think it's a lot more noticeable nowadays with voice acting etc. the shortcomings of the writing and story direction that Square Enix sometimes takes. Especially in something as beloved as FFVII.
I hope they do something to tie it all together and make all of the original fans happy. But... I am half expecting some Kingdom Hearts type nonsense that leaves us scratching our heads... lol.
If not, hopefully they at least do Ruby/Emerald weapons and the gameplay justice!
