  • This 3DShoemaker (formerly Shoe Last Maker) tutorial covers parameterizing of shoe lasts. This is the process for brining various shoe last designs into 3DShoemaker where they can be parametrically adjusted. It is a challenging process, but once completed, the resulting template can be used to create a standardized library of shoe last designs. The written version of the tutorial can be found here: 3DShoemaker.co...

Please tell how shoe last maker can be useful for developing a last for unit sole or for easily available soles in the market

It would be a similar approach as shown in this tutorial, except that it is the sole that is brought into the session.

Is it possible to grade the entire shoe that you have modeled in rhino or can you onyle grade shoe lasts in 3d shoemaker? I want model a shoe sole and use it for manufactering purpose in different sizes.

Not currently, but it is an upcoming feature, no time estimate currently

Hey, grading is not that hard, it's just math. You can use different methods to do it. I remember there was a formula, but I forgot it. My old job used to send the grading to another place, and they had this old machine that looked like a huge metal etcher sketch. It would cut out paper shapes. I had to check them before they made the knives. The main thing is that the length changes by 5 mm and the width by 2.5 mm for each size. But some parts might look bigger or smaller because of the shape of the shoe. It's tricky to go from 3D to 2D, you know? You also have to check your lasts, because they might not be the same for all sizes. I'm using 3ds Max now, and it has a tool called 'UV unwrap' that is like 'form making'. It can do grading and springing easily. I already printed a prototype pattern, I just need to see how it works. The cool thing is that 'UV unwrap' is a common tool in other 3d apps like Blender, so you can switch software if you want.

This program seems all nice and good, but considering it's gated behind Rhino 7 that costs $1000, it's completely out of reach for us, normal people. I wish this was available for some free CAD software.

The tools in Rhino are needed to make the plugin. Developing those independently would be a massive amount of development. Rhino itself is a great footwear design tool. It is too bad they don't have a cheaper version for individuals...

      @@samlochner6315 I understand, it's really unfortunate.
