I saw an interview where he spoke about already playing guitar when Hendrix released 'Are You Experienced?' and began learning the songs almost immediately. Also mentioned he started the act mid-70's, I think.

This guy is pretty good, I heard Jimi Hendrix's 'Hey Joe' as a single, with 'Stone Free' on the flip side, they were playing it on the radio, it was a well done recording, because of the vocal harmony backing in 'Hey Joe', it sounded great, and full.
Especially for a 3 piece band, with one guitarist, and he is doing all the lead vocal. (There was no backing vocals when Hendrix played live)!
He was entertaining to watch, at the time, and being the first of his kind was very unique.
We were facinated by the guitar sound, the mish mash full sound he was producing from his guitar, how it wailed and sustained that we hadn't heard before.
I tell a lie, I had heard something similar with 'The Yardbirds' in a song they recorded, titled, 'I'm A Man', where the guitar was using feedback sustain during the middle section of the song, where some lead guitar is duelling with harmonica, and together they produce a very exciting play off with both intruments, to produce a feedback, duel using guitar vamping, scratching sounds, with feedback lead, being repeatedly used to build the section up, till it is finished at the end by a simple chord progression run up, then a full chord, bass, and drum ending.
I think they fade the end out as this rage takes place.
I saw a band back in the mid 60s copy the 'Yardbirds' version of this song, they did an excellent spot on version of 'I'm A Man'.
Hendrix used very similar effects and guitar technique's during the songs he arranged and put together.
Hendrix method of writing, came from his ability to come up with guitar riffs, chord progression's, that were laid down into a format, that he would then add some lyrical content to, therefore creating a song.
I played with a band that used that approach, everytime we got together.
We always recorded what we played, while just jamming, that mean't we always had a recorded version of everything we did, because parts, or ideas came from these recording's.
This way, we could hear ideas back, to add to these ideas, so then we would record those, and form several sections that seem to go together, creating a whole.
During this process, lyric's would start to materialise, which we would try out, and forming complete songs.
I'm sure this was Hendrix's method, the very same method that Led Zeppelin used, to come up with songs.
SRV is a reasonable copy of Hendrix, but it doesn't mean Hendrix invented the style.
Johnny Winter is another similar guitarist, that allows guitar expression to dictate the end product.
He also is a very talented guitar player, I think Johnny Winter and Hendrix are by far, better guitar players, well their imagination's and guitar playing abilities are far better, more polished style players, but also, natural.
SRV always sounds too clinical, he writes some great blues songs, has a good feel for the blues.
Hendrix and Winter take their guitar playing to another level, which can't be defined, or analysed.
This guy playing here has made it his ambition to play like Hendrix, and he does do it well, and convincingly, but he is only copying Hendrix, and pulls it off to a very high level.
He is a lot more animated than Hendrix, moves around more, his drummer and bassist are OK, but Hendrix's drummer Mitch Mitchell, was ahead of his time, a good tight drummer, knew his stuff, with a lot of creation in his soul.
Noel Redding never was a bass player, he was a very good established lead guitarist, but was asked to come and play bass by Hendrix's then manager, who was a member of Eric Burden and The Animals fame, he saw Hendrix in America, and asked Hendrix to come to England, where he found Hendrix the 2 muso's.
Chas Chandler I think was Hendrix's manager.
Chas saw a lot of talent and originality in Hendrix, the fact that Jimi played with a lot of feel, and passion.
The fact that no one played guitar like Jimi, Eric Clapton saw it, heard it, when he first saw Jimi.
He like a lot of others, were impressed with Jimi,
and due to Jimi being left handed, made it hard for others to pick what it was exactly, that Jimi was playing, (doing) his fingering was very foreign to how they played, so it took time for them to grasp what it was Jimi was doing, to produce such a great guitar sound.
Jimi impressed everyone, including 'The Beatles'.
As long as this guy keeps entertaining people with his Hendrix style antic's on stage, he will be successful and appreciated by the musician's around the world, and the many Hendrix fans.
    He is very good.

I don't think I put rubbish on the guy, (I said this guy is good) he does a very good interpretaion of Hendrix's style, better than some, and there are a few of these die hard Hendrix guitarist around,
who are doing their best to give their audiences a Hendrix experience.
Very few guitarists in the world who are out there playing, are very average guitar players.
Average to poor, that is the sad thing.

      Hi Andrew,
      No harm mean't or intended.
I have looked at a lot of Randy's live footage, he seems to be a keen master of Hendrix, and I admire that.
I was 14 going 15 when Hendrix first came out, my drummer mate and myself were very impressed with his style, his ability to make a guitar and amp sound the way he intended, it was very different to anything else that had been coming out, he certainly changed the way all guitar player's used an amp and guitar by controlling the feedback and over sustained sounds, so that guitarist's used the feedback factor and incorporated it into their playing.
It is something that can't be taught, once a player gets it, and takes charge of it, it is a wonderful thing.
Hendrix never used overdrive sustain peddlers or switches through out his career, he did however used a standard, basic fuzz unit, and (wah wah) peddle, but not always.
Marshall amplifiers became all the rage back in Hendrix's time, and the Celestian Speakers that Marshall put in their amp's, at a certain volume level, ( on 12 plus) and Hendrix being in control of this volume, was able to make the Celestian Speakers break up and sustain, creating a slight distorted sound to the speakers, therefore creating the overdrive sound he got from doing this.
Hendrix was a first of a kind to do this, so was Johnny Winter, these guys just blew everyone away with their technique.
Later! as we know, all amps had a (pre amp) built into the design, allowing guitar players to achieve over driven sounds, but at a much lower (reduced) volume levels.
The beauty of Hendrix and bands like the who, and Steppenwolf, Cream,
Led Zeppelin, Free, Deep Purple, Bad Company, Rainbow, Uriah Heep, Yes, and this list extend's to most Rock bands, that volume, playing loud and hard, is what the excitement of playing in a Rock band is all about.
Hendrix changed the dynamics, and feel.
All guitar players today use peddles and effects, and all matter of devices to acheive what the master did with a guitar plugged into an amp.
Today's guitar players are incapable of using Hendrix's technique.
They haven't got the ability or talent to pull it off.
That is why he was the best there was.

    • @nevillede-hoedt6520
      @nevillede-hoedt6520 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AndrewSnowden007
One other thing, Hendrix was a Fender amp user, so he'd push his Fender amp hard, during all his recording's, it is a Fender amplifier you hear, not a Marshall.
When Hendrix played live, he ran a lead from his fender amp, into the Marshall's, by daisy chain linking them together, so he could amplify his sound to a huge audience, there weren't the huge PA systems around, like we have today, so linking heaps of speakers and amps together, was the only way to make it possible for people to hear live bands.
Play hard and loud was the go, they did the same for vocals, link a lot of amps and speakers together to achieve volume.
Hendrix got his guitar sound from a Fender amp.
Fender speakers don't break up easily, they have a very clean sound, Hendrix sometimes used several Fender amps linked together.
You can notice the Fender amps, to the side of him, in most clips of Hendrix playing.
Clapton only uses Fender amps, Beatles mainly used Vox, but Fender was the preferred amp.
You will notice Fender in their studio film footage.
Harrison prefered Fender, so did Paul.
Back in the day, VOX used 'The Beatles' to experiment using their amps, so it was all supplied to them free of charge, so the Beatles would have put their opinions in regarding if the amps required certain standards that they were trying to achieve at the time.

I saw Randy Hansen around the late 70's (not exactly sure of the date), in a local bar...the Royal Tower's Zodiac Club in New Westminster BC. I think it was before his Apocalypse Now recording, but I'm not real sure about that either. Us old f#!kers get mixed up with dates. LOL. Anyway, he's been at it a long time, and it's a long time ago that I saw him perform there. We're the same age.
