J Dilla produced most of Common's _Like Water for Chocolate._ Since you enjoyed that album, you should *100%* listen to Slum Village's _Fantastic, Vol. 2_ if you haven't. It's produced entirely by Dilla (except one track, by Pete Rock). Albeit not well-known, it's the most important album in J Dilla's discography besides _Donuts._ One of the greatest hip-hop albums of all-time in my book.

I love how much Pops hates in John Legend 😂 😂 😂. This is a great reaction to a classic album. Common DEFINITELY disappointed with Electric Circus (him and everyone he worked with weren't ready for what he was going for with that album and neither were we as listeners). Linking with Kanye was the best thing to happen to his rap career at that particular point.

Haile Selassie I was Ethiopia's 225th and last emperor, he was crowned emperor in 1930 but exiled during World War II after leading the resistance to the Italian invasion. He was reinstated in 1941 and sought to modernize the country over the next few decades through social, economic and educational reforms. He ruled until 1974, when famine, unemployment and political opposition forced him from office.

Produced by legends of the game (Pete Rock, Nottz amongst others). He got also a posthumous album called The Shining (featuring Busta Rhymes, Common, Black Thought, Pharoahe Monch..) and obviously you can also listen to his group Slum Village. Hands down this is my favorite Common album especially with him rapping over Kanye West production is the perfect combination since y’all did a reaction to Be it’s only right to do Finding Forever next. 👌🏼

“Love Game” - Eminem feat Kendrick Lamar.
Btw, Eminem is one of Kendricks *biggest* influences in rap. Not only is it clearly audible in his songs, but he also admitted it multiple times. Same applies to J.Cole, who said his early raps were basically just him ripping off Eminem and Nas.
In fact, EVERY *skilled* rapper of this generation grew up idolizing and copying Eminem. Literally every single one of them. Their words, not mine.

Has your dad heard Get Lifted? That's my favourite work from John Legend tbh. It was also released on Kanye's Label "Good Music" which is what this album was released under (hence the heavy Kanye production/Features).

Fan of Common, haven't dug into his discography much. Great project! Thanks for putting me on.
I think Em & Kendrick only have 1 collab out, it's on MMLP2 - Should do that!! 😈

Finally!!! Glad you did this one, I was sure your dad would like it. But please don't cut the songs that hard at the end and PLEASE PLEASE take both a listen to Little Brother's "Minstrel Show". This is a GREAT album, soulful, funny, with a bunch of backstories (BET callin it "too intelligent" for black people, etc...)

i think a donut reaction would be super dope if u guys reacted to the songs he sampled and then the donut track. so maybe do 10 tracks off donuts and kinda analyze the way he samples. to me don’t cry is THE best flip ever but u don’t get the full gist until u hear the original track u kno. 🍩🍩

I think your dad would also like Finding Forever but we for sure gotta get him to at the very least respect John Legend’s talent, lol.

Yes Common dated Erykah Badu.. And that precipitated the creation of Electric Circus. Ppl were crucifying him for wearing crochet outfits and looking so soft, they were saying he got hypnotized by the "Badussy"!
