Never understood why this album gets so clowned on. Got a feeling people just want Cole to rap on trap beats like everyone else in the game does. But god damn, if you can get past that aspect, there's so much beauty and perfection in this album.
This album is unironically underrated. "It's so boring, it's sleeping music" that kinda criticism kills me. This album gets so slept on not just in Cole's discography but in hip hop history. I wrote a whole ass essay on Reddit about this album back in the day, but to keep it brief I'll just say it's Cole's best work with some of his best songs. The title track in particular is Cole's greatest song bar none imo.
I don't think it's his best work I'd say either 2014 forest hills drive kod the off-season the warmup or Friday night lights those are his top projects in my opinion I like this one but I don't play this one like I play the other ones I have to be in a mood to listen to this
Dude coulda let his dad figure it out himself lol the best most impactful feeling about this album is the realization at the end that the whole thing was from his homies perspective
As someone who loves recommending albums...that final landing on 4 your eyez only is better received when its "spoiled". Those who have gone into this blind have had mostly negative reactions..and then have it grow on them... atleast from my personal experience. i would'nt have given so much details tho.
There’s a duality there. It’s about him, and about his friend, at the same time. Cole is selling “dope” as in dope music. But his friend was really selling “dope”, in the hood, to get by.
Same with me, This came out my freshman year of high school so I never understood it completely and though it was a good album but now I think it's Cole's most underappreciated album. Like I don't hear ANYONE mention any songs from 4Yeo even though as an album it's a great cohesive project
The album is so well put together. On Immortal from the first one seven four five if you "forward the plot" 17:45 a real nigga James dies in Change. My favorite J. Cole album ever.
I personally love Changes. It made me feel like I'm important in the midst of being alone and living independently. I didnt really dig deep into its lyrics at first because sonicly alone, it speaks to me. The lyrics- the words fucked me up big time and I freakin love it. It'll be my anthem for a long time, until I'd be able to change for the best.
Pop nailed it at the end. Little things come back and it's how you bat it. The whole album, finding love and then having a daughter is what gets him wanting to go on a straight path. On 4 Your Eyez, he starts the song talking about his girl is putting pressure on him. And how he can't get hired anywhere so he's in hell, stuck. Having your back against the wall in that environment is like a ticking time bomb.
You guys are my favorite review channel on youtube. Never fake and always hitting the best albums, makes me feel like I'm listening to these classics for the first time all over again. Could you react to Awaken My Love by Childish Gambino? Funk and soul vibes on that record I know would be an instant hit.
Your pops appreciation for Ville mentality touched me his commentary helped me appreciate my already favorite song on the album his little jazz club poetry scenery exploded in my mind shit was genuinely beautiful 🙏🏽
Just to clarify, him saying "Motherfucker I AM" on Neighbors is a clever play on words. He doesn't mean it literally, this is him referring to the music he was making in the house as dope music, cause many consider cole's music as therapeutic and just like coke, it's like a substance that influences you psychologically and emotionally, so when he is selling those tracks, he actually is selling dope. 👍
My appreciation for this album just doubled. I was in high school when this dropped and it got so much hate and my ears were too young to really disagree with the hate, but its so deep it wasn’t possible for me to appreciate it as much as i do now. Dont think it has as much repeat value as KOD does which I think is a very under appreciated J cole album.
He said you ain’t never been to the laundry mat have you😂😂😂😂y’all be makin my day man you’ve done a phenomenal job wit the way you’ve been introducing ur dad to hip hop, stay consistent all the love 🖤
So glad you guys did a reaction to this album. I knew your father would enjoy the album and I’m glad he enjoyed it that much. Almost nobody reviews or reacts to this great album
My dude I just discovered your channel and binge watched every damn video 😂🥵 I’m a huge J. Cole stan and I’d love to see y’all do his mixtapes, particularly Friday Night Lights and the Truly Yours series; most of his best tracks are on his mixtapes 🫡
4 your eyez only is one of my favorite albums of all time. This album hits so different for me than it does for others. It doesn’t have a single skip imo. Can y’all react to Born Sinner? Would love to see your pops reaction. Much love for the channel, I watch yall videos daily
Love this one this made me appreciate this album way more it really aged well. You guys gotta do the Nas King Disease trilogy I think Pops would dig those albums
On the song Neighbors, I think the most overlooked line is Cole saying he is selling dope. But in the context he don’t mean drugs, he means he’s selling “dope” music
Uh honestly that’s not what I took from this album. He’s sharing his life style and connecting it to his late friends life style. 2 people of like minds, yet followed different paths.
i love this, I really wanted you to include his reaction to the last line in the closing song 4yeo "your daddy was a real n**** cause he loved you" otherwise, great video!
Great video man, love the reactions from both you and your dad. It’s awesome to see a son and father share time together enjoying a good album and having a good time, keep up the great work really enjoy the videos!
This album is so good especially the last song Jcole really is one of the greats and if you don’t think so you really not listening to the message and lyrics and flow that he puts out and he puts in work as a producer as well 🐐🔥
Changes is my favorite song on this one, what about y'all?? I gotta say y'all are my favorite reaction chanel! You two are a dope! Hope y'all have a great new year! God bless y'all!
Really dig your channel! Been following from the beginning 🔥Wondering if y’all would ever start to dive into solid and critically acclaimed mixtapes as well? J Cole’s “Truly Yours” 1&2 would be dope! Bro you gotta put him on Cole’s “KOD” album too
Yes! I love seeing these reactions and your dads understanding of the songs are great! I'd love to see y'all react to Bryson Tillers Album Trapsoul I'm sure your pops would love that!
Your dad understood and appreciated this album more than a lot do, respect to him

Easily cole best album

Greatest song?!?! You’re right lol I legit cried during the last song. The whole album came together in that song and got me good. Lol
I see this álbum like a wake up Call for our New generations
This album is hard aff but also underrated

The last song always makes me cry hard af when cole switches to his perspective and is talking to his friends daughter
When he says "well mother fucker I am" in Neighbors, he means that he's selling dope but not the kind his neighbors thought. He's selling dope music.
Yes and no. It is kept ambiguous
