    Wow just seeing this out of the box th-cam.com/users/postUgkxQr1yd4Zc6qJF-scTB6Zb9dQbVpviuRxB recommend I have yet to fish with this set up, but based on the first hands on appeal, I can tell this is going to change the way i pack and carry to a whole new level. If you fish like i do, you know the smaller and less stuff the better. I’ve added a photo of just some of my gear so you can see how serious i am about fishing.

    Excellent introduction into using in line planer boards. I've fished on friends boats with planer boards but I didn't want to invest in set-ups like they have. This seems like an affordable solution when my wife and I are out by ourselves. Thank you.

    Amish outfitters makes a release kit for the Jet Divers. When a fish hits, the line pops out of a clip that is bolted to the diver. The diver is no longer able to dive, and you have a direct connection to the fish.
    I’ve been using them for the past 10 years, and love them.

  • @robertriccobono9209
    @robertriccobono9209 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi Ivo, love the videos. One question. I noticed you have a lot of slack in your downrigger rods. I've always thought you were supposed to reel down so there is very little slack in the line and there is a tight bow in the rod. Thanks.

    • @thundermistlures
      @thundermistlures  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      the tight bow in the rod is just to show the release better and to ensure there is not a lot of slack line out, but you can get the same results, without having to go so tight :)

  • @Cwynn83
    @Cwynn83 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Great video!!!!... Question about the type(#) line you use on when down rigging and using planers? You had a leader on the diver correct?

    • @thundermistlures
      @thundermistlures  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yes - I like to use a fluorocarbon leader from the Diver to my lure...you can use mono as well, but I prefer fluoro :)

    Hi Ivo
    I really enjoy all your Erie walleye trolling videos.
    Would love to try it sometime this summer. Just wondering how far out I would need to go in the summer time. Would go out of abino or port colbourne.
    I have a 16ft aluminum boat and am a bit nervous of Erie. I do fish salmon and trout all summer on Lake Ontario.
    Where would I purchase your viper spoons?
    Any info would be great.
    Thanks in advance

    • @thundermistlures
      @thundermistlures  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi John - glad you are enjoying our videos :) If you go out of Point Abino for walleye, you do not need to go out far in May , June, July nor August. Just go out till you hit 40 feet as the walleye will be between 40 and 60 feet. You can also troll the Windmill point area, and again, not far from shore (a mile to 2 miles is plenty). Erie can get very bad very quickly and wind from the south or south/west is the worse....15 KM would be very rough, so suggest 10km or less. Wind from the North is not bad at all, as it is offshore, and much safer, even at 15 km. I like to check the wind at windfinder.com - it is pretty accurate and good to check the day before as well as the day of, before you go out. As for the Viper Spoons, it is best to buy them online. Thye are calling for another great year on Erie this year for Walleye, so you should do very good :)

    Another great video! Your T-Turn, I have some, but I have a question about the "lb" rating. Is that pressure before it will break, like line does? Or is it about the size of a fish that it could withstand?

  • @dirtydan1764

    Hey, do you have any tips for fishing lake trout in the summer without down riggers?

    • @thundermistlures
      @thundermistlures  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Absolutely :) A great method is to use jigging spoons and jig them within a foot of the bottom and to fish deep in the summer - they work great (PS> such as the 2 3/4 oz Stingnose Jigging Spoon...you can use lighter but if you are fishing deep, you will want the heavier model. Here is a short video showing this method :) th-cam.com/video/O2zdyFmmQ4A/w-d-xo.html

    • @Straderthanyou

      I've caught them using roe eggs in the river and off piers. You can also use spoons.

    • @brakie44820
      @brakie44820 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have caught salmon and trout from shore. I used roe eggs and fish break walls and where creeks and rivers dumps into the Lake. I've caught salmon in the Huron River around Huron, Ohio in early fall.I prefer two hours before and after sunup-roughly between 4-8 AM.. I've also caught Walleyes in the same areas during that time on Canadian Nightcrawlers while fishing for catfish and sheepies..

    • @thundermistlures
      @thundermistlures  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      HI Mathew - the Viper Spoons will certainly work form shore, however, they are best used in a boat as they are very light - for casting for shore, the Python Darters would be ideal as they are deigned for casting where as the Viper Spoons are best suited for drifting and trolling :)

    Hey Ivo I'm from Sandusky Ohio which is a small city on the coast of Lake Erie and I wanted to ask you if you've been experiencing a lot of slow days of fishing in Lake Erie lately? It's been hot very consistently and I feel fishing has really slowed this summer due to the high temps and no rain

    • @thundermistlures
      @thundermistlures  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      you can use a weight if you want - the planer boards usually come with a lead balance on the underside, so you will need to adjust it one way or another in order to get the planer board to run true - not sure how much weight you can use max, but you can experiment :)

    Very nice tip Ivo,I have never used a planer board before as I do not fish in any real deep water,deepest I have been fishing right now is only 10 to 15 foot as I have been fishing mainly perch right now.
    I caught 4 Walleye in the last couple days granted there was no size to them only about 15 inches long is the biggest one I have caught so far and I caught one today that was only about 8 inches..
    If I was to travel south of where I live about 25 miles south the water level will be a lot deeper,between 50 to 100 foot I might take the time to go do some Walleye fishing..
    By the way the Walleye I did catch where my very first ones I ever caught..
    Ivo I would like to know if you can help me identify a fish I caught last week on Lake Champlain in 12 feet of water,I am not sure how I can post a picture of it but I have had some guys tell me it is Sheephead(fresh water Drum fish) and some others tell me it was a Carp..it weighed 17lbs and I was only using 8lb test line, it took me almost 15 minutes to see what I had and another 10 to get it into the net to land it,it was quite the fight on light line..
    If you kn ow how I can post you a picture let me know so I can see what you say it is,myself I think it is a sheephead but I am not sure as this is the first time I ever caught a fish like this,the color of it looks just like gold..

      mainly for 2 reasons - you need to let out more line in order to allow the lure to dive down to its desired depth and also, you want the lure to be far behind the boat so that the fish are not spooked and you have a much better chance to get a hit :)
